Hey storytimer!

Slott and Brevoort, but really Slott holy shit wow, lost their fucking bananas recently. Over the weakest spoilers possible.

"Occupy Avengers" is still a terrible, out of touch name (but I'll absolutely take it over "Avengers Lives Matter" which would be unbelievably tasteless), but Walker's the best pick for it right now, and it shows they're not gonna Priest him. Yet.

what did he fucking do this time?

was it about BC leaking the Marvel catalog? I mean sure, I enjoyed Scanbro's leaks too, but I can see being peeved by it. Marvel really ought to warn everyone "this is likely to leak so be prepared", by fucking now.

>>84452172

Except for Hawkman, who is fucking useless.
>>
>>84452148

Like, Bruce making something to kill the Hulk sounds fine to me. Sure Bendis will ruin the execution but still. Also the last 2 issues of the Hulk book have been about how he's finally free of the Hulk and how good that is for him.

>>84452159

I disagree. I think it looks great.

>>
>>84452198
Long story short, Bleeding Cool scoops a couple of "spoilers" which are just Marvel's lineup of new books. Slott throws a SHITFIT over this, pisses over indie creators who do interviews with Bleeding Cool, compares it to being an indie filmmaker and working with people who make snuff films. Obviously hyperbole, but dude, that's the worst possible hyperbole to pick.

Someone pointed out that DC circumvented this by announcing their shit via press conference. Which is the smart move? No leaks, more hype.

I can't see the "leaks" here actually damaging Marvel's efforts that much, it's not like they had a great plan to make Solo their next smash hit.
>>
>>84452235

It's still so weird to think Marvel is so mad about leaks when they're so bad about marketing and pushing their own books.

Like they keep getting hammered on the lack of queer characters, and who knows, maybe they do have one among them - maybe they confirm Kate is bi, maybe Solo is suddenly gay, maybe new Wasp is queer. Worst possible option is "Oh, Slapstick's gay, hahaha, enjoy that, suckers", but it's still on the table.

If any of this is the case, when you're getting criticized that hard, instead of sitting on it, why not reveal the info and go balls to the wall promoting it? Holding back earns Marvel nothing here, and their promotion beyond pushing issue #1 of everything, if that, consistently stinks.

>>84452527
I agree pros can do a lot in supporting and talking about harassment. I think it's stupid to lump Allie/Berganza together with Slott/Spencer. I wonder what to do in cases like Wiebe vs. Fowler on "what's going on with Rat Queens?" wherein two people say divergent things and it's possible to not want to accuse anyone of lying without knowing more, but you seem to be told to take a side.

>>84452564

I mean, you put something out and criticism will happen. iirc the article was also more about the general anti-Ghostbusters feeling that the Rolfe video made finally explode.

also he's right about all the sexist shit it's getting
>>
>>84452608
This is earlier, and since they decided to use Hawkworld as a retconned origin for Katar and Shayera, they had to do this weird "This was Fel Andar on the League, actually!" stuff.
>>
>>84452556
It did hurt the hype considering there's little to no information. Nobody's gonna say "oh Slapstick is getting a solo by literally who team and all information I have is this scanned cover, boy I'm excited." >>
>>84452605
Slott and Spencer are shit-stirrers who can't stop quote tweeting is their shit. Eventually, they'll accidentally do some real damage - Slott in particular, because he has a bigger following base, and he's far more aggro. He's an asshole, and he's going to hurt someone eventually, but (probably) not intentionally.

Which he'll apologize for...

And then do it again.

Allie and Berganza are much worse, for obvious reasons, but it really says something when you can be that much of a dickhead online, constantly, and nobody in your company seems to ever tell you you should maybe kinda probably reel it in. It speaks to a rotten company policy that quietly empowers and favors bullies/assholes (Slott) and outright abusers (ppppplenty that get swept under the comics dirt).
>>
>>84452688
James isn't stupid, and he's been doing his thing for a while now

I gained a ton of respect for him simply because he didn't address the rabid backlash at all

no limpwristed apology video

not even a single tweet

That's called being an adult and not playing along with the current infantile outrage culture

I understand the concerns, absolutely, but it doesn't look like anyone even tells him "This isn't healthy for you, it doesn't look good for you, it'd probably be best if you stopped picking fights and flipping out on people?" Like not even as a company thing, but as coworkers, friends, something.

>The relationship between parents and children remains as complicated in life as it does in fiction. That's exactly what "Namesake," the new BOOM! Studios comic book series launching this November from writer Steve Orlando and artist Jakub Rebelka, will focus on -- but with a series of twists.

>The four-issue fantasy series stars Jordan, a young man with an unusual mission: he needs to bring the corpses of his dads to a world called Ektae to fulfill a deep familial obligation. With two dads -- one from Earth, the other from Ektae -- Jordan utilizes the one time every seven years when the two worlds interconnect to carry their urns to a final resting place.

They're trying to do the old "Make 'em mad" gambit for the X-Line (and by extension generate sales for Inhumans), but it's not working, because X-Men have been in "We're all gonna die!" as status quo for the majority of their time since, like, House Of M? It's not shock, it's not anger, it's "okay we're doing this again".

And Inhumans don't have enough pull to make Inhumans Vs. X-Men as an event sell like Avengers Vs. X-Men.

This is what really bothers me about this new wave of so called "feminist" writing. All these supposed feminist characters, aren't actually characters. It's like people assume that having women as the protagonist is enough, when regardless of sex/race/what have you, if your leads are shallow non-entities, your story is going to suck.

None of the NuGhostbusters promo material has given any attention to who these new Ghostbusters are, or how they bounce off each other. It's kinda sad.

That was Simon Pegg's main argument for why Sulu should be gay and not a new character. That if they just introduced a new gay character they would be defined by it and a token. >The main thrust for those who aren’t keen on our LGBT Sulu, seems to come down to two things. Firstly, why Sulu? It’s a good point, I mean it could have been anybody: Kirk is a pansexual fun seeker; who knows why Bones got divorced? Well, in the long run of things, she did make good. I know a lot of people in fandom still despise her for a wide variety of reasons (she was a bully, too), but she's writing disposable YA EFP that's got a following, so I guess she wins.

Ah, old school Potter fandom. Shine on you crazy diamonds.

Honestly though, I'll happily take that insanity over the whole fear-mongering bullshit from moral guardians. How sad and empty is your life that you spend all day attacking Harry Potter for being some alleged devil worshiping thing? The best was when they claimed HP taught people witchcraft. Yeah.

Nah you can skip episodes, there's a decent episode guide

Measure of a Man in Season 2 is probably the first great episode. It's a trial about whether or not Data is a person or property

Actually, a fair number of Legionnaires have prominent relationships with their mothers. Imra and Tinya immediately come to mind.

>implying comic writers give a even the vaguest shit about mother/daughter relationships
.... Sigh. I know. Wishful thinking.

He'll have to cram it all into one specific character with about 32 dads.

and if it's a continuity where Durlans actually take on the properties of what they shift into, he really COULD be the entire Legion's dad!

RJ Brande being everyone's dad also explains the Legion's at times questionable recruitment criteria. The duplicate power thing is just a cover, really you have to be RJ Brande's kid. Leland McCauley was right all along.

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

The slower pace isn't really a problem here, since JLI is coming off as more of a slice of life book than anything.

Thought it might just be the new Vigilante logo, he tweeted before the announcement I think. Southland being the bottom part.
>>
>>84454493
Can you elaborate? Because Metron has always been an asshole

I don't think it's so far OOC for him to be a grumpy dick to a bunch of yahoos that crash into his little private hideyhole

Maybe it doesn't bother me that much because there's been waaaay worse butchering of the 4th world over the years
>>
>>84454528
Well he's an observer, I don't think he's ever the guy to take matters in his hands. And he's a dick but not a grandstanding loud and obnoxious dick.
>Maybe it doesn't bother me that much because there's been waaaay worse butchering of the 4th world over the years

>I have intentionally only watched TOS but isn't that like the last good one?

All Trek has good and bad.
IMO, the worst one of the lot is probably Voyager, because Enterprise season 4 had just the right kind of fanwank for me. (And Uncle Phil as a Klingon.)

>>84455311

>Just having Kirk as a man who enjoys all that life is willing to give him

This is a mischaracterization of Kirk, though.
Kirk was a workaholic who had all kinds of one night stands because his job was always more important to him than his personal life, to the point where his longest relationship ended up with a son who's mother intentionally isolated from Kirk.

NuKirk is more of a hedonist, though, so it could well work there.

That's an important episode, though.
And it's about Picard's Space PTSD.
>>
>>84453789
Not all of the first two seasons are complete garbage.
The second season sees a marked improvement over the first, for the most part.

And watching ALL the episodes means you get to laugh at the really bad ones like Code of Honor.
>>
>>84456170
I wouldn't mind watching bad episodes so much if I was more interested in the cast

so far the only character that really sticks out to me is Data
>>
>>84456220
This is true. Characterization is kind of a slow burn.

I mean, Riker doesn't even REALLY become Riker until they go to Planet Feminism and he almost becomes the Lady President's pet manly man.
>>
>>84456401
Riker improves markedly once he gets his beard
>>
>>84456532
that's good because currently I don't like him at all

I love his shit eating grin. Especially in the episode where he trolls Picard while he's on vacation

Bump. Great storytime, folks. JLI was one of the first comic runs I got into (no, I wasn't reading comics when it came out) and it's a little shaky at points but my nostalgia feels vindicated. I love the chaos in it.

We're gonna pretend the New 52 version never happened, right?
