He clearly got him to activate the weapon, but he failed to really secure Ezra's trust since it fell apart right then and there, and we know from Maul's own words as well as Filoni that Ezra becoming his apprentice (and thus his legacy) was also something Maul genuinely wanted.

It's difficult to tell. I myself don't know much, canonically, about the old Sith Empire.
It could be. I can only say that right now, in the Rule of Two, both Sith are lords. But the master, the ruling Sith, is the Dark Lord. At least until their apprentice kills them.

My dad accumulated literally every EU novel from Splinter to the second to last big Post-ROTJ multi-author thing. I've read a decent chunk of it, the 'classics' are still pretty good, I even enjoyed some of the Vong. Though my favorite stuff was either the early really pulpy works like the Han Solo trilogy or the clone wars stuff and the post-cw continuations with characters that came from the Maul book and the Space M*A*S*H duology

I get the feeling this would've made things easier for Sidious. Alot of the reason it was easy for for him to feed Anakin's ego was because he always felt underappreciated by the order to varying degrees. Being under Windu I can't help but feel would've accelerated that process.

Sheev would have used Mace's position in the Jedi against Anakin. He would constantly invite Mace and Anakin to fancy dinners and whatnot to make the other padawans dislike Anakin and from being buddies with Mace he would be able to fuck with the Jedi even more. I feel like he would have immediately destroyed the Jedi during the battle of Geonosis by activating Order 66 and then attacking the main temple by saying that the Jedi had aligned themselves with the Separatists and were on Geonosis to plot an attack on Coruscant. By then he would have made sure that Anakin and Mace were busy on Coruscant and intentionally let it slip to someone like Yoda that he was a Sith Lord so that the Jedi would try attacking him, Anakin would be confused and doubt they're reasoning, then Mace would likely join in after trusting Yoda forcing the clones to deal with the Jedi and Anakin to align himself with Sheev. Sheev would then use Jango's underworld connections to continue intimidating Senators and making the Republic bend to his will with Anakin as Sheev's personal guard now that the Jedi have been destroyed. Eventually the Delegation of the 2,000 would be formed but Sheev would plant some evidence on them that they were plotting another attack like the Separatists and then send Anakin and the 501st to deal with them but this time Anakin would gladly kill Padme because he has no attachment to her. Over time Palpatine would slowly lead Anakin to the dark side and after years he would fake finding out that he was force sensitive and after turning Anakin to the dark side he would then act as if he's recreating the ancient Sith order. Anakin would gladly accept this by now and now with the Sith mindset him and the Clones would execute the Senate and enact an Empire. The galaxy is forever fucked. The end.

For the Main Saga, at least the first 6, yeah. There are multiple protagonists, but the focus and story is tied all around Anakin (except ANH obviously)

George Lucas himself said that's how he viewed it, that Anakin was the main character of his movies, despite only being the protagonist of 2-3. Even then you can make a strong argument that Obi-Wan was mostly the main protagonist for those two.

Overall though, no. Star Wars has no main character. Because Star Wars is just hundreds of interwining stories, each individual story has a protagonist (or multiple)

In ANH, it's Luke. In Attack of the Clones, it's Anakin and Obi-Wan. In Blood Sisters, it's Sabine. In Levers of Power, it's Rae Sloane. And so on.

I suspect that Snoke was one of the original dark siders. Maybe even the first Jedi that ended up fucking off to create what turned into the Sith in the Hundred Years of Darkness. The Sith say that they believe that you need an extremely powerful government like the Empire in order for the galaxy to actually have peace and order but in reality they just used it to get power for themselves because they went full retard in the dark side and got selfish. I suspect that Snoke was one of the original Sith (maybe before they were even called Sith) that honestly believed in using power to establish peace and order and he will be somewhat more compassionate and understanding than Sidious because he doesn't want to take over the galaxy to feed himself energy from mass suffering like Sidious, he truly believes that the galaxy is doomed without a strong Empire controlling it and that the Jedi are too weak to effectively defend the citizens of the galaxy from threats.

This could also make sense given that we know Kylo truly believes that what he's doing is right and it also makes some sense given that he believes Vader was mostly right (except for him going back to the light) because Vader was dark because of his belief in the Empire and not because he was greedy like Sidious. This could also explain why Snoke made Kylo give up the attachment of Han, because their dark side order isn't based off attachments or emotion but cold emotionless rationality.

Star Wars needs to fucking evolve. Star Wars needs to grow and change and be fucking weird.

Remember, the whole reason the OT took over the world is because it was literally like nothing anyone had ever seen before. Oh, sure, there were bits and pieces of stuff people had seen before--Kurosawa movies, Westerns, Buck Rogers--but it had never been put together in this way, with this style and aesthetic. It was really original and that's what drew everyone in.

If Star Wars wants to stay relevant it needs to keep being original. I think Lucas was actually on to something with the prequels, with his need to keep doing something different with Star Wars. Sure, everyone felt nice and comfortable with TFA because it was familiar, but that's only because the prequels were bad movies. Too many safe, familiar movies and everyone is going to get burned out fast. Star Wars needs to once again push beyond the edges of what everyone knows and do something totally unique. It needs to once again make us really feel like we're a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

I've been thinking about this.

TFA is doomed to only ever be "alright", and ultimately overlooked and forgotten. This is literally because of how similar it is to ANH.

In 30 years, when there is another dozen or so movies, TFA will likely be the ONE Star Wars movie, out of them all, that doesn't stand out. The only one. And that is entirely because of JJ's "go back to go forward" mentality. He made it so similar to ANH that, no matter how much you enjoy it, it will still lack the ability to stand out among the other movies.

As for the Prequels getting better reception, that's already happened. TFA gave the fans a lot of what they were asking for, and in retrospective, left a lot to be desired that fans realize the Prequels gave to them. Worldbuilding is a popular example.

As for people being burned out, that's very hard to say. Star Wars is so huge, the biggest franchise on the planet, it's hard to imagine the bubble bursting.

So I was reading up on religions that inspired the force and I think Taoism is probably the biggest one. I'm also surprised that most of what I wrote up in pic related is actually very relevant to Taoism leading me to believe that my descriptions were correct. Here's some interesting shit I found out:

I hate to sound like a broken record but I honestly don't believe this. I keep marathoning through the saga and I keep coming to the conclusion both trilogies are on equal footing. They both have the same dialogue, action and atmosphere. We talked a little about this last thread but I think the reasons the prequels failed with fans is because of nostalgia. People were expecting the new Star Wars films to pick up where ROTJ left off and continue the adventures of Han Solo and Luke. I think the general response was first shock and outrage because it was something so far removed from what they were expecting. A completely new story, setting and group of characters that was nothing like the originals. Lucas even laments about this in behind the scenes info.

If the prequel films were a separate story not directly connected to the main saga, I believe the response would've been much different.

The Living Force can be selfish though and decide to consume itself and become a sort of virus in the Cosmic Force that will eventually destroy existence itself, but the Jedi defend the Living Force from such selfish beings like the Sith and decide to live in symbiosis with the Cosmic Force receiving energy from the Cosmic Force in the form of force sensitivity and giving back when they die and their energy becomes one with the Cosmic Force again.

You may also be thinking that force spirits are selfishly staying with the Living Force instead of letting your energy go into the Cosmic Force but think of it like this: when you die normally your soul and energy haphazardly goes back into the Cosmic Force but you can train to have it go back into the Cosmic Force in an organized manner that resembles your sentience and become a force ghost.

I would say it probably is needed. Without anything to do the Jedi sat around doing nothing in the temple forgetting their purpose and ended up unprepared for Sidious. Obviously a huge galactic Sith empire is bad for the force but little planetary conflicts and whatnot are needed for the Jedi to not stray from their purpose like they did in the PT.

Also you forget that Yin is also somewhat nefarious and plotting and Yang is sometimes described as relieving. I see this as Yin being what Palpatine was during the prequels. A nice old man who was plotting to create a horrible Empire and Yang is what Jedi should experience at times where they accidentally go into the dark side and understand their mistake in a sort of relieved reassurance of their place in the light side.

TFA being successful is great for Disney but they also didn't buy the franchise just to have one billion dollar movie, they're expecting Star Wars to print money for them for years to come. Merchandise sales have tended to slow down considerably in non-movie years. That's part of why the Clone Wars multimedia project from 2003 was made, because merchandise did really well in 1999 for Episode 1* but there was a huge drop in 2000 and 2001. AOTC brought it back up, but they needed something to keep sales up while ROTS was being made.

Disney seems to be trying to counter that with the "one movie every year" model, and it might work, but it may also lead to burnout. We've never seen this formula applied to Star Wars before, so who knows.

There WAS a huge glut of unsold Episode 1 stuff that stores couldn't get rid of, but overstock doesn't always mean poor sales. The stuff sold really well, the problem was they made too much of it, and some smaller companies did end up suffering for it.

The thing is, we have already seen that the Star Wars universe has crazy body-changing technology in TCW, when Obi-Wan went undercover. So at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I think it was perfectly fine to have an off-hand line referring to a sex change in Lost Stars, because in the Star Wars universe, you can literally change genders in a day and continue your life normally. It's not a big thing in the Star Wars universe because it can't be, in the same way that being gay literally can't be a big deal. It's not like actual transgenderism that entails ignoring a lot of blatant mental illness, and genital mutilation, ect.
