I'm Not X-Anon. I hope he won't get angry at me, but since there are shitload of x-books, it only makes sense to have shitload of X-Anons
But I felt like I wanted to contribute something really special. I want to storytime some mutant stories from Golden Era that predate X-Men, but at the same time feature common tropes developed by X-Men.

The idea of the mutants was something that was brewing at least since 50s, wait until I storytime Namor's origins. It's hilarious that the story of how he got wings makes total sense in the X-Men mythos, despite predating them by at least 10 years

it's worth noting that the idea of mutants at marvel was drastically different from what the sci-fi literature definition of mutants, but then again, marvel was known for portraying sympathetic werewolves, vampires, zombies, etc

It makes sense. In the Silver Age radiation pretty much replaced magic as the go to origin story. It was a dropped plot point from Lee's X-Men that radiation caused mutants

I like the idea of having lots of undercover telepaths in the world who use their powers for selfish reasons, to make their lives easy, and Xavier/Exodus/Emma and that kind of people who use those powers to be heroes or villains as exceptions.

I remember one of the victims was a mutant who was able to survive off radiation so he worked with NASA. He just living on a solo space station doing experiments then he lost his powers and died horribly

It's worth noting that The X-Men were originally supposed to be called The Mutants, hence New Mutants, as a tribute to the original concept.
Apparently Goodman didn't like the name Mutants, as too complicated.
I guess that they became X-Men, because the letter "X" itself was very popular
