Thinking about reading 52 Anything I should know beforehand?
Infinite Crisis
52 is a very good read, first of all. Now here's the relevant plot points for someone who's unaware of the state of DC at the time.
The Elongated Man's wife, Sue Dibny, was murdered by Jean Loring, the Atom's ex-wife.
Infinite Crisis, which immediately precedes 52 chronologically, resulted in the deaths of Superboy and Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle.
In addition, a bunch of heroes went off into space to stop something and never came back, and Black Adam regained control of his home country, Khandaq. Superman has lost his powers, Wonder Woman is kinda persona non grata because she killed a man on television, and Batman is taking a sabbatical.
So this is a year without the big three, but not a year without heroes.
Also this >>83748632
It's a pretty neat concept but they didn't get it right the first time.
Read Countdown instead, it's the more polished do-over.
Man, I remember reading this for the first time as a novel. What a ride.
>>83748832
>So this is a year without the big three, but not a year without heroes.
This, desu. There are no small heroes, only less famous.
>>83748915
Don't listen to this man
Might want to read Infinite Crisis first. I read 52 without having read that first and still enjoyed it though.
>>83748915
Didio pls
It was one of the first DC things I read and I was fine. I guess I had general familiarity from cartoons and shit though.
To this day I haven't read the first 1/4 of 52. Back when I was first getting into comics, my library only had 2-4, and I still haven't read the entire thing.
>>83748570
nah
Fuck it. And I'm including the backups.
>>83750060
i mean one series is literally a history lesson
this is a compliment
>>83750060
I hate that the trades don't include the backups. I've only read the series in trade so I've never even seen them, so I'll follow along here. Do you know if they're available anywhere collected?
>>83750060
GOD BLESS YOU, JOHNNY
>>83750189
Shut up baby, I know it.
>>83750167
I believe there was a trade called "The Origins of the DC Universe or something like that.
Are you doing all the issues senpai or just a few as an intro for this op
>>83748915
You are a cruel man anon.
>>83750304
I'm planning on at least the first ten issues, as that's all will fit in this thread. After that we'll see! I might spread it out over the week.
>>83750060
Holy fucking shit are you story timing the entirety of 52??????
Isn't that the question of the day
>>83750350
Oh bby you da best
Week two! I'm leaving this on auto-post, but I'll be in the other roomplaying Overwatchso I should be able to respond quickly to issues.
>>83750405
Who're your top three chars played
>>83750427
Junkrat, Reinhardt, Roadhog.
Anon mentioned his issue with the trades is that they don't include the backups; I think a much bigger problem is that they don't include these covers with the tickertape at the bottom.
>>83750770
You absolute madman. Good luck, this is a true masterpiece.
I fucking love 52, I read it when i didn't know capes and it's partially to blame for my DCU obession. All will be well.
There so I'd always be a biweekly book that functions as DC's universe seasonal TV show format. Shit like futures end would of been better off in a main 52 style book that follows ground level, and lesser known cosmic/magic characters as we see what's up this year in DCs planned events
>>83750167
New TPB of the first 26 Issues comes out Wednesday, and it will have the backups.
34.99 for the first volume of two, second one comes out around xmas
Steel's a fucking asshole

>>83751399
He's on a distant planet watching Starfire naked every day, kid.
38! 44! 52, hut! Go long, Johnny Walker!
>>83751664
Flash turning into a skeleton has always scared the fucking shit out of me. The original Perez art was spookier, of course.
>>83748570
Dony miss demon knights, or aquaman, and def don't miss morrisons action comics.
Even as a marvel fan lifelong they were so he of my fav comics at the time.
Ugh I hate that demon knights had to end.
>>83751679
Wait, didn't Krona see the Spectre's Hand at the beggining of time?
>>83748915

>>83748915
Don't.
I love the tickertape for this issue especially.
>>83750244
That's Geoff Johns page right?
>>83753212
Lois was a bad influence on him
>>83750847
Same here, between this and Johns' JSA I got hooked on the DCU train almost immediately.
Okay, that's the first ten weeks of Fifty-Two! Thanks for reading!
>>83751244
Rucka
>>83753177
Johns' handled Black Adam's stuff, since it was an extension of his work with the character in his JSA run. But given how crazy the editing (or lack thereof) was for this series, individual appearances couls've been handled by any of them, or even filled in for by Giffen.
>>83751244
Rucka, she was his waifu so he had to kill Vic
>>83753419
Thanks OP.
>>83753212
>>83753227
This is one of my favorite scenes in all of comics
>>83751425
man, Buddy's wife is pretty based
>>83755116
Lois is a bad influence
Bump. Probably going to start around 3 Central tomorrow afternoon with issues 11-20.
>>83748570
Yes, as this guy states >>83748832, I knew Superboy had died but hadn't read those books. I didn't know he was dating Wondergirl (or that there even was a Wonder Girl since I've never been interested in the Teen Titans books). I knew Ted had died and under what circumstances. But I didn't know about Sue.
That all said, I was able to follow along the books otherwise without any problem. You would probably appreciate some stuff more - but I just Wikipedia it (like all the crazy mad scientist listed).
>>83751359
This
>>83748832
it's a GOAT premise desu
why did Supes lose his powers?
>>83757259

https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=37271570
So I'm sure the second half of the story would be released again soon enough.
>>83751244
So, I'm not the only one.
OP here.
Wow, I created this thread and didn't see any replies for awhile. Just came back home to browse the board and saw it now.
Warms my heart to see people enjoying the storytime. I think I'm going to read Infinite Crisis first, but I shall check out the first couple of issues from this thread first and see if it intrigues me. I may buy that new trade with the first 26 issues (which is what prompted me to ask about it).
Thanks for a good thread.

>>83751624
Know what's best thing here? Starfire being wet and naked and Adam and Alan being all "oh well, that's just another Thursday".
>>83766692
Well, scratch that. Forgot Adam lost his eyes.
>Alan

>>83751925

>>83753419
And thank you for storytiming it.
>>83753419
Thanks!
>>83766433
This is good to know. Thank you.
Ah 52 storytimes, one of the cruelest story times because it makes anyone that reads it hope for another weekly of this magnitude but alas the dream will continue to be just that, a dream.
>>83748915
>>83753340
I love how much Booster matures throughout Countdown and afterwards.
Still, I love this version of him too.
Starting Week 11 now.
