But yeah, I'm going to miss Alex. I was hoping they'd do some Summer bros power combination since they're both immune to each other's powers.

So do they do anything worthwhile with Scott in this movie? Any moments that make him recognizably the good character he is actually is?

How's Tye Sheridan? I really, really like him in Mud.
>>
>>83291041
He was trying to lead mutantkind into the next stage of evolution, and Phoenix revealing herself showed that they were already there.
>>
>>83291041
Apocalypse, as in the word, means "uncovering".

He wanted the strong to survive and was willing to give his life to see that. When he saw the Phoenix the final act of "uncovering" had been complete.
>>
>>83291078
He's one of the subplots, coming to accept being a mutant.

I actually liked him quite a lot in the film, and he's part of taking Apocalypse down more so than some other characters.
>>
>>83291078
>How's Tye Sheridan? I really, really like him in Mud.

you have good taste, Mud is an excellent film

Unfortunately in Apocalypse, Cyke is the rebellious younger brother of Havok. Take from that what you will.
>>
>>83290779
>they're both immune to each other's powers.

How does that work?

Also, isn't Scott's power just concussive force, not actually heat vision? It seemed like it was the former when he first shot it, but the latter for the rest of the movie
>>
>>83291213

Seemed like his eye beams were heating up the metal Magneto impaled Apocalypse with
>>
>>83291286
Concussive beams cause masses of friction and heat shit up.
>>
>>83291286
>>83291213
The friction was heating the metal I would think.

As for why they're immune, it's the given plot reason for why Scott doesn't blow his own eyelids off or is able to cover the beams with his hands. So they decided that to mean something about his genetic make-up makes him immune (like when an animal is immune to its own poison) and as such his brother is immune too.

>>
>>83292413
>>>/tv/
>>
>>83291910
>This. They had enough ideas in this to make 3 movies
Indeed. Personally I wish they had focused on one person coming into the school (e.g. Scott) and built up the school as a place and the new team. While conversely having Apocalypse do the same.

There are some cut scenes (e.g. a mall scene when the kids skip out) which would have been fun and fit the 80's theme.

They should have followed Scott entering the school and Apocalypse growing power and building his forces. If you had more time with the burgeoning X-Men you would have been more invested in their fight and things like the Phoenix revelation.

We really didn't need Mystique out there and this and that. It was too much. Too many subplots.
>>
>>83290779
I liked Alex in these movies.

Good actor
>>
>>83291201

At the least his one real rebellious thing, flaking off to go to the mall, was lame, dorky, and after he had seen Jean. He's trying to impress the girl, in a horrifically cliched way, and that kind of works.
>>
>>83291563

That second thing is a fucking god damn add and it was some of the most fun X-men cast action I've seen in six god damn films.

Okay, so, next film is going to have an active team of young X-Men in proper costumes, going to a fully formed school with tons of other students. Will the team be the cool kids? Will the other students know? Will some think they're dorks? How will Quicksilver abuse this?
>>
>>83291078
Tye does a good job. He is actually given more scenes as a leader than I expected.

There's a bit where Mystique, Beast, and other mutants get captured by Stryker. Cyclops basically leads the remaining mutants (Jean and Nightcrawler) on a rescue mission.
>>
Storm gave me such a huge boner.

like seriously huge.
>>
I loved how silly this movie was.

The part when Magneto forms the big X with the steel beams to block Apoc was great.
>>
>>83292932
Maybe its sped up for us but he hears it slowed down

You ever hear songs slowed down to super slow speeds?
>>
>>83293426
God that was so fucking cheesy.

I loved it.
>>
This movie would've been better received if it settled for either uncompromising action romp like "First Class" or self-serious down-to-earth thematic exploration like "Days of Future Past". It tried to have it both ways and felt disjointed.
>>
>>83293677
The weird jokes breaking a tense scene seemed to want to pull the sort of the the main Marvel movies do, but it always felt off. Like the delivery was wrong, or breaking the tension for the audience was wrong itself.

I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't love it either. I didn't believe ten years had passed for any of the main characters, because they looked exactly the same. Despite being the 80s, it's really only referenced a handfull of times, and it being the 80s doesn't seem to have any importance to the film, whereas the prior films felt centered in their time periods. All the referencing to Last Stand was bizarre, too. You'd figure they'd want to stay as far away from that as possible.

So are the power boosts Apocalypse gave his followers permanent?

Storm made a little wind before he supercharged her, and at the end after she turned on him she was calling down full-blown lightning storms. I don't really see them depowering her if/when they do more movies.

Is Magneto still super OP now?
>>
>>83295442

If Mystique is a reluctant good guy now why did she disguise as Stryker and intentionally fish Logan out of the river and give him to Weapon X

No I agree with the other guy it's not that she shouldn't it's just weird to see Storm cowering when she's not in a small confined room

But she's still a teenager and in the X-men she'll be stronger and braver.

Unless she gets put into a small room.

Can we have just one movie where no version of Magneto does something bad?
>>
>>83297992
Like I said, I was totally fine with the deception because she wasn't "Storm" from the comics who was literally a goddess. This was Storm who is not a powerful mutant who is still a pickpocket and who despite just getting a massive power boost is still fighting someone for the first time ever. It makes sense she is afraid of Hank and Scott kicking her ass because she has never really fought anyone above a baseline human before and if Apoc didn't show up it looked like she might have gotten her ass kicked by the knife dudes.

>Kinberg confirms the next X-Men movie will be set in the 90s

>You might have noticed a trend in the X-Men movies. 2011’s X-Men: First Class was set in the 1960s and its follow-up, X-Men: Days of Future Past, took place in the 1970s, with the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse set to demolish the 1980s. One might be able to guess where the next X-Men film will be logically headed, and one would be right. ComingSoon.net caught up with Simon Kinberg at the film’s junket where he confirmed what you might already be thinking.

>“The next one is set in the ’90s,” the franchise producer told us.

But the first film was in the late 90's and Magneto and Xavier were old as fuck...

>>
>>83300184
The first film came out in 2000 and it was set in the "not too distant future".

Besides, who cares, the point of DoFP was to wipe basically everything.

Remember how in X-men 1, Storm, Cyclops & Jean were supposed to be the original X-men? Or how Mystique and Charles never interacted without so much as a hint that they knew each other till First Class? Or how it was strongly implied Wolverine's claws were entirely from Weapon X?

The point is you can ignore all this shit, it doesn't matter from DoFP onward.

the fight scenes are bloody, the camera angle shows actual gore and you actually see wolverine gib mooks. There is a whole lot of swearing, but it's used realistically on not for the sake of humor like in deadpool. The sex scene(s?) are incredibly lewd, and there is a few minutes of added footage.

And to get Moira, Mystique, Beast and Quicksilver from the ruined school to the base to Cairo. And since the X-Jet is blown to bits and the mansion/underground was in ruins they needed a place that could provide gear and transportation that wasnt the xmansion. Which only leaves Stryker's Base at Alkali Lake.

Plus give Jean, Cyclops and Nightcrawler the chance to step up and launch a rescue mission.

The only reason Jubilee wasn't there was she was probably caught in the crowd that got knocked out and Stryker never picked her.

This was a solid 7.5/10 a little below DOFP but I think that's because of JLaw. She felt weaker in this film than the last one. Story wise it's a lot simpler and juggles the new characters fairly well.

I don't think people realize the in the late 70's standardization of corporate america meant that products, buildings, music, everything got into a mold and stayed that way. The CD came out in 1982, and we still use the same exact same size disc today for blu-ray.

Fox is just not on top of their shit. They could have fast tracked x-men 3 as a 2005 release and NOT touched phoenix. Saved her for a part 4 in 2007. Fox just doesn't know how to milk a franchise like disney does.

Teen Storm was pretty much the same until she left Cairo to go to Kenya and learned to fly and hone her powers after she was almost raped and killed a man. In fact, in the comics she was mostly a "Daddy, look what I stole, do you love me now?" character from Cairo and on.

They didn't do her pickpocketing justice at all, though.

I saw the Movie yesterday and like it. Sure its not the best one of the franchise but it was still good. One of the things i didn't lied was hoe easily everyone side with Apocalypse. I thought they were all getting mind controlled or something
>>
>>83320715
Grammar aside, I agree. I thought for sure he was manipulating them somehow but no, that's a specific plot point. Not one of them balks when he starts disintegrating people. Like, maybe it was fear of him at some point but still, you'd think there'd be a bit more hesitation involved.

Jesus fuck

>>83320715
Yeah that was another problem I had with the movie. That and how quickly everything seemed to happen. Havok dies but we don't really get to mourn him. It did lead for a nice Scott and Jean moment later on, though. I really enjoyed the movie, but it definitely had a lot of flaws. Definitely felt bloated with trying to introduce all the new characters and making us care about them. Hopefully the next one will be better and focus on Jean, Nightcrawler, Scott, Storm, and whoever else they get (Rogue, Bobby, and Peter are off the table most likely.). And for God's sake, keep it in the 80s instead of trying to move up to the 90s.

The Taskmaster is supposed to appear in either Thor 3 or GOTG2, so he's probably already doing shit.
Besides, the audiences watch the movies for the heroes, never for the villains.
Hell, the only superhero movies made with memorable villains are Spiderman 1, Spiderman 2 and The Dark Knight.

I don't get why he never returned to the school after Nam? Would've made sense for him to be a teacher there or something.
>>
>>83321216
Maybe he felt like teaching wasn't his calling.

He's more of an act first, think later kind of guy and that eventually gets him killed

Still doesn't really explain how he knows about the school yet seemingly hasn't seen Hank or Xavier since after the events of First Class.

Danger Room. It got me pretty hyped, but I was disappointed that we won't see the suits or X-Men fighting again until the next movie.
>>
Do you think we'll ever see based Deadpool's Colossus?
>>
>>83321767
It'd be cool to have an extended Danger Room Sentinel Simulation thrown in the beginning of the next movie.

Wouldn't be that stale to reuse if we see how the new Xmen deal with them as training.
>>
>>83321913
Yeah but they'd be fighting the lame Dyson vacuum sentinels.
But I wouldn't mind, we hardly ever saw Mutie on 80s Sentinel action in DoFP.
>>
>>83322018
I actually like the Dyson Vacuums but I know where you're coming from.

You want the huge motherfuckers and I would love to see that too, I just think it'd be probably be easier to re-use the same ones.

But they could simply make "alterations" on the original sentinel design to increase the challenge
>>

>It'd be cool to have an extended Danger Room Sentinel Simulation thrown in the beginning of the next movie.
I almost wish that we saw the team members in Apocalypse struggling to fight as an actual team since this is the first time they met and fought with each other. Then have the next movie open up with another Danger Room scene, showing how well they fight alongside each other now. Kinda like Avengers 1 vs. the opening of Civil War.

The movie had a lot to do and was pretty long as is. The next one shouldn't be weighed down as much.
>>
>>83322221
Anon, anything that happens in the last 10 minutes of an X-movie is automatically retconned/ignored in the next one.

The next one will start with a new Jubilee actress complimenting Xavier on his new wig and fucking off until the next movie.

Maybe the team will actually be led by Cyclops!

As much as I like Magneto and don't mind Mystique, there definitely needs to be a change. Kurt, Scott, Jean, and Ororo RATS can effectively carry the franchise, but they need to be the focus first. I would have loved to see a fleshed out version of the mall scene, but instead we got "Hey let's go to the mall Prof X is out" "Okay" "Third movie always sucks, oh wait, THIS is the third movie" "Fuck, Alex is dead"

Just got back from seeing at and my impressions are;
>Quicksilvers scenes were both great, honestly not sure why he didn't want to tell magneto about his heritage but w/e, nice to see them actually incapacitate a speedster for once instead of writing him out of killing him off
>Wolverine was great and I'm glad they didn't force him on us for the rest of the film
>Many iffy or downright stupid lines of dialog
>magneto killing literally millions than only having second thoughts after his one night stand from 20 years ago tries talking him down
>he is than welcomed back by Xavier and the rest of the X men
>Storm was hot as hell, but her and Psylocke felt somewhat wasted, and angel gets completely shafted, AGAIN
>Nightcrawler was great and added some lighthearted laughs but also it was nice to see him get some more screen time after being shafted from X3
>Singer's hateboner for Cyclops appears to have died down and he finally gave us a classic styled outfit at the end
>Film began to drag around halfway into the end battle but seeing the X men come together and take out the enemy all at once for once was great, instead of just letting Wolverine do everything
>Jubilee being there for no reason
I mean, they probably didn't want to give the Asian character firework powers but still.

Also, how the fuck are they going to keep the newer, younger versions of storm and cyclops/jean and that but age up magneto and Xavier? are they going to keep them or just reboot with X Force?

Overall, I enjoyed it but not to the same level as the 2 films before it. would never even think of putting it on Last stand or origins level though.
>>
>>83287738
it didnt make sense at all. there were barely any movie trilogies in 1983 that she would be referencing. its an anachronistic line. the only way we can interpret it is as a fourth wall break.

cyclops didnt really matter or do anything of significance. he did have a funny scene where he was supposed to hit a target across the pond and he obliterated xavier's favorite tree. but yeah otherwise he was just a moody teen the whole time.

This bothered me a lot.

Not only did Havok die stupidly and for nothing he nearly killed everyone in the mansion. He died for fucking nothing after all he's done before.

Man, I liked Havok a lot.
>>
>>83301142
Was that the X-Jet he blew up? Was it carrying metric tons of dynamite? I know jet fuel is flammable, but to completely level the entire mansion even though it's in an underground bunker seems a bit much.
>>
I really like period pieces and they actually tried to emulate 1983 in this movie. I know people complain that Jubilee's fashion is more early 90's, but that sort of bright collage was becoming common in south Cali at that time.

If you watch a show like The Americans which is set in the early 1980's, they sorta get the feel and aesthetics of that decade but still make fallacies. The Goldbergs as well.

I was pissed that Alex just got killed off like that. I actually preferred him over Scott in this continuity since he's the elder brother.
>>
>>83287738
Last Crusade was far better than Temple of Doom
>>
>>83324234

the jet had a small nuclear reactor to power it up, not fuel
>>
>>83324105
Same here. I really liked the 1963 team of X-Men. I know Banshee got murdered by Trask which sucks, but Alex should've survived to become field leader of the X-Men or something.

In fact, WTF was Alex up to after leaving Vietnam in Days of Future Past? He wasn't involved with the Academy so what was he doing during those 10 years?
>>
You know, if Apocalypse had held off on sending his message until after he had Xavier's powers, he would have won.

I really don't understand how writers in Marvel think. I can sorta give Jubilee a pass since it was 1989, but they created Dust in 2002; a Muslim girl with sand powers.

And let's not forget the baggage involved with Psylocke. A white English girl who switches bodies with a Japanese female ninja is the sort of shit that SJW shills would bitch at because of MUH RACE APPROPRIATION.

Just saying, he could have hammed it up after he had won, just need to change the message so it's past tense.

>This is a message to the strong
>Those who have survived
>This new world, belongs to you

>>
>>83324739
I'm sure Apoc has at least six different powers that could handle Xavier's crippled legs. Even then, taking Xavier's body was already his plan, he was gonna do it anyway, he just fucked up the order.
>>
>>83324739
Would he not be able to use his past bodies ability to heal?
>>
>>83324795

do you think he realized it

like "Maybe I should have done this shit after hijacking his body, oh, well, it's not like anything can go wrong anyway"
>>
So does he carry his powers to each new body? Is that his power, or the strange machine?
>>
>>83325120
The former, I believe. Because he still had energy shield girl's power after he switched to healing guy's body. And that bury people alive power had to come from somewhere.
>>

The movie implies that he picked up new powers over his lifetimes, but it never says which is his original power. I would imagine it's his earthbending powers.
