They're basically made for two completely different purposes too. Not only would you have to take the difference in balance and reach into account at all times, but you'd have to effectively use two completely different fighting styles with each arm. Your brain would probably try to favor one weapon too, and the differences between the sword and spear would effectively mean that the favoring of one render the other near-useless. It's not impossible, but it's dramatically more taxing on brain power that could be spent on things like dodging and evading. Also, the imbalance between the two sides of your body would make it both significantly easier to be knocked off balance, and significantly harder to recover.

Let's just say that there's a very good reason that most dual-wielding in history involved two of the same weapon.
