but rose's reasons for wanting to aid earth mostly concerned humanity and how utterly unique they were in comparison to themselves. I'm sure the gems cored out plenty of planets with non-sentient life before they reached humanity. Its just that the more we see the gems acting alongside steven and nobody else, the whole "The human experience and human traits are what make steven stronger than his mom" thing the show seems to want to go with continues to lose ground. I assumed it was the fact that the gems had encountered thinking life so similar to them that had triggered the rebellion, but now I'm beginning to slowly feel confused as to just why it is the gems stuck their neck out for earth at all. Fuck, Greg had to interact with rose for the CG's to even look at a human in the past six thousand years, and he had to get over a chain link fence to do it, lord knows how many landmines pearl put in the sand back before mass produced metal was cheaper. Yes I get that you can fight to protect the sunrise or the natural beauty of earth and all that, but to be fair if I were a gem and stumbled upon earth with no sentient life on it I would have seen that shit cored out in an instant for the spires of my people, which in turn have their own sort of beauty to them.
I guess, much as I love the show, I'm feeling a lack of justification and background for why the gems want so much of planet earth, when all that they personally care for are steven, and only then because I have a feeling that the gems don't really understand how human reproduction works and assume its still rose in some way.

But still, there must have been some among them who cared for the cause, for protecting what was probably the first example of sentient life beyond gems they had ever seen. The fact that the cluster didn't want to form when it got its head together is enough show that there were some forces who thought the planet was worth something. I'd just love to see the gems finally back, either fixed of their corruption or simply coming to earth for the first time and just fucking either weebing out over humans or making active attempts to try and communicate with them. Imagine the impotent rage a gem of the noble classes would express after coming to earth for the first time, asking rose's personal pearl how their development has been over such a long time, and getting little more than some mumbling and a shrug.
