I'm reading New Frontier again for obvious reasons.... =(

here's my shelf which hasnt changed in a while, bunch of new floppys though. Still need to read The Fix #2 from Wednesday.

I just picked up the new 52 omnibus, new 52 zero omnibus and new 52 villans omnibus from the post office yesterday

Serious answer I went to buy just the new 52 omnibus but the store suggested I buy those 2 with it and I thought why not I was already paying a bunch for the overseas postage
>>
>>82744184
You're not even getting a complete story, just samplers. I'm sorry man, but you really should have just passed for something that was written by one author with creative control, instead of something editorially mandated...
>>
>>82743069
More or less I prioritize it kind of generally:

Type of book (mostly by height)
Publisher or universe (depends on amount which gets valued)
Series title
Publication order
>>
>Found every issue of 52 at my local comic con
>Super pumped thinking ill get a good deal for em
>Guy running the stand wants me to pay full/overprice for each issue
>Around 200 buckaroo's
>kek/10
>Bought the entire countdown run for $40, regardless of how much it sucks
>>
>>82743069
Alphabetically by publisher, then alphabetically by continuity/character.
>>
>>82744614
Also organized in chronological order of original release inside each continuity.
>>
>>82742193
I respect this shelf. This is the shelf of someone who's been at this a while.

I just organized a ton of my floppies. 5 magazine holders full. Got em separated into ongoings and collections and then by company and time period. A good 1/4 is just random single issues.

Does /co/ prefer long/short boxes or magazine holders? I'm starting to prefer holders since I find that if I leave them too long in the long boxes then they end up getting dented or stress marks on the spine somehow which really pisses me off.

Long boxes are a pain in the ass because you basically need two people to move them, theres nothing wrong with magazine holders but theyre usually a couple bucks a piece and you can fit way more issues in a shorty and its easy to sort through and move around as need be.

That reminds me of this one time I checked out a collector's store for back issues:
>Walk in the door, store is loaded with sports and WWE memorabilia, other shitty collector's items.
>Oh fuck, it's one of THOSE places.
>Owner shows me to the back where the comics are.
>Poorly organized; smells funky; mostly unbagged floppies that are wrinkled from storage.
>15 or 20 minutes later, I just come out with some Hush floppies, just don't want to leave empty handed.
>Me, being stupid and new to comics, offer cover price for these books.
>Owner tells me he doesn't know what he wants for them, and that I should come back after he has a chance to check guide prices.
>Come back
>Guide prices
>Yeah, I'll come back! See ya.

When you collect an ongoing series are you comfortable with just reading the volume you bought until you buy the next one or do you wait until you have the complete set to start reading?

Depends on how late to the party I am. I like reading a whole arc at least, however many volumes that may be. If it's something I know I will like then I will wait till it's complete. It would be like watching my favorite movie 30 minutes at a time once every couple months.

Recently picked up these on a whim. Aside from a few volumes of Walking Dead I've never got comics before. I am loving this Paper Girls volume tho.

I'm a big animation guy and I noticed comics are basically just key shots of a storyboard and I love that so I think I'm gonna get more. Any entry level stuff you guys would recommend? Not much of a superhero guy btw so none of that please.

With Trades I've never seen the reason to wait but i do with most floppies i get, i'll wait for the end of an arc then read them all together, or in the case of a limited series just wait till its done.

for example i started reading the fade out as it was released but found that i kept having to read what happened in the previous issue to catch myself up because it had been a month or more, so i just kept picking them up but stopped reading each month

Cape stuff though ill read right away esp if its something that gets a storytime here because i like to see what others think and those threads only stick around a couple days.

many people dont like Y:The Last Man

if you like a good cast that feels real and don't mind noir stuff you should check out some of Brubaker and Sean Philips' books, Criminal, Fatale, The Fade Out, Sleeper, etc.

It's basically a fleshed out concept art book. It feels like it's setting up for a lot more. The pacing is the biggest issue with it, it is 400 pages and that still doesn't feel like enough for what Cooke could have done because he spends a lot of time jumping around. It would have work better as a ongoing or a series of ongoing a similar to Multiversity or Seven Soldiers.

Depending on the configuration you get - 2x2, 4x1, 4x2, etc - they work well vertically as a regular bookcase or horizontally as a sideboard type thing - I'm cladding a white 4x2 in stained wood and building a htpc into one or two of the cubbies.

Not that Anon, but these shelves seem pretty suitable for what I had in mind, I'd just be a bit worried they might not be strong enough to hold a load of OHCs/omnibi etc.

I guess since they're narrow-ish shelves then it shouldn't be a problem.

>since they're narrow-ish shelves

That would be my guess too. People have posted those with plenty of weight and they don't sag. I bought a regular size ikea billy and it was starting to sag so I replaced it with the smaller ones and they will hold anything. Only real issue I see with the kallax is that the books might get filled with an extra amount of dust.

>>82801580
Yeah. I had a open book shelf and never dusted the back side and now some of my books are stained slightly on the tip of the bottom since their was a build up of dust

>>82791584
I wish I knew if this before I bought the issues for 20$. I guess the glow in the dark issue is worth it.
>>
>>82812434
The thing is that beginning is really good, but the drop in quality will give you vertigo it's so bad. Also it's quite different from other runs in terms of tone. I remember when it first started and people loved it but the opinion gradually sort of shifted. You'll still find people who like it, but even most of them are willing to admit that the finish is at the very least lackluster.

At least the turnabout of opinion is mostly based on the quality of the work rather than, say, the shift of opinion on Fraction's Hawkeye which mostly centered around the delays and Fraction making an ass out of himself on social media (though there's some debate over the quality of the Kate issues).

I picked up Thanos: Redemption for less than $15 last year because it had a remainder mark. I've picked up several oversized hardcovers for less than $20, some even less than $10 like like iHerc: Smash of the Titans. It all depends on where and when you look.

If you have a place you can get to easily, go there and go there often. Because they tend to cycle through materials very quickly. I've been able to find gems like Black Hole HC for $2 and The Book of Genesis by R. Crumb HC for $3, 2 copies of 300, etc.

Amazon's a harsh mistress up here in Alaska. Shipping used to be no more than an understandable $5 when I'd order trades back in Ohio or Tennessee. It arrived beat all to hell and it's a limited edition release, so they have no others for the price I originally paid. They instead gave me a full refund of the $30 and suggested I use it toward the now marked up $60 they're selling.

If anyone is thinking of getting the flash omnibus by Francis manapaul is recommend ordering it from Amazon. They have it listed at a steep discount and the solicits has it listed for 100 Usd
>>
>>82842769
there's long periods where you can't buy anything other than one box at a time. it's pissine me off and in my opinion them trying to force you to subscribe to their pull list service to get them.
>>
>>82836939
>>82837811
Half the time with Amazon I get a nice rigid cardboard envelope that protects my order and the other half I get some bubble envelope bullshit with my trades beat all to hell.
>>
>>82843278
seconding this
even for internationalfags like me, it is probably the best deal
>>
>>82843384

desu those boxes are all standard boring tan and olive design anyways.. may as well just buy a bunch of stor folios bulk for the discount if thats the kind of thing you want

Damn, I should really get that Calvin and Hobbes collection sometime. I've been keeping all my paperbacks in a box with other books since they'd take up too much shelf space.
>>
>>82846717
idk if it is shitty post office on your end, but I never had a problem with amazon despite the shit packaging

So, I've been reading The Boys since picking up that Ennis Humble Bundle, and I gotta say this is way, way better than /co/ made it out to be.
>>
>>82848993
not his best, but still good
I hope they put out better collections if the tv show gets picked up
>>
>>82849091
Yeah, I can already see that its not gonna top Hitman for me, but if it stays its pace it could end up being a new favorite.
>>
>>82848993
It started off great, but got worse as it went along.

I couldn't finish it myself. I stopped with 2 arcs left. Just couldn't get past that second to last one.

Was visiting LCS I frequented in city I used to live in.
Read 4 issues of the 1st one in a coffee shop.
Finished my peppermint rooibos tea, and went back and got the second volume.
Finished v1 tonight, gonna check out v2 tomorrow.
I'm mostly blind. When the Hellboy crossover happened, I lost my shit.
>>
>>82849435

I'm only on Vol. 2 and was expecting it to improve, like most books

hey /co/,

months ago a couple of anons were talking about an artist called Tony Sandoval, i took interest in him and now i'm considering buying his most recent art book.

i was wondering if any of you got it, i'd like to know if the book is good quality since there's literally no info on it anywhere, not even page count, and it's only sold by a comicstore.fr website that i know nothing about

>>
>>82849773
His art looks mighty cool but I'm not a fan of artists that only do artbooks. I prefer stories.
>>
>>82754160
I have most of these, I just put up newsstands shelves to compensate.
>>
>>82825492
Is that new Marra book just an art book or is it an actual comic?
>>
>>82825470
You managed to get a copy of Dome, huh? Congrats!
>>
>>82851337
his girls are adorable

>>82851397
he's got a couple of stories published but i never read them, don't know if they're good

i was checking his facebook page and it says the book is only 80 pages long, which is really disappointing, considering it costs 29 damn euros not including shipping
>>
>>82843051
thats a fucking sweet bundle pack bro
>>
I cant wait to get all my books out of moving boxes and onto shelves
>>
>>82825532
I believe so. Never read it before, or watched it, but I've seen it on Bogleech any anything about yokai draws me in. I still haven't read it, but yeah, judging everything, I believe so. Like those Dark Horse Astro Boy collections.
>>
>>82759017
Yeah nothing new. Island stuff is getting collected later apparently
>>
>>82846965
I was surprised to hear good things about the new Hitman game, then again I don't remember if critics liked Absolution
>>
>>82854360
Absolution was well liked.
