What's his story?

He looks like the kind of nigga that'd be into smooth jazz.
>>
>>82622803

His name is Lozer. And yeah -- smooth jazz sums him up fairly well. He grew up in a united space colony -- unfortunately due to his genetic differences, he's somewhat less capable and this caused him to grow with an inferiority complex. Lozer found a living essentially being a fall guy for a few criminal "buddies" until they sold him out for their own safety and he ended up in prison. Years later, he gets out and seeks to make an honest living.

I look at some of the works of other people on the site that I'm targeting and it's not like my story is worse than many of them, but I don't feel satisfied with my stories even though I enjoy the process. I started making comics because I make pretty pictures, and when I made a story, it felt more satisfying than just making portrait/pose fanarts because it actually has a message or well.. story, but I can't write for shiiiiiit.

Make characters people will invest in and have interesting things happen to/between them. Resolve it satisfyingly.

If the writing is good then bad art is forgivable and it'll still be a good comic, but the opposite isn't true. I can't emphasize that enough.

Honestly with how powerful digital art is nowadays, you could get away with tracing as long as you're careful about it. A lot of times the story you want to tell is limited by your art, but really don't be afraid to "heavily use references". I mean, USE the shit out of those references. Put another layer on top of them and trace it, then flip it horizontally and make some edits.

As long as you're not a retard like Nick Simmons you'll be OK.

I always wanted to do a story about a family of Superheros. But the MC has no powers and has to live with while struggling with his senior year in high school and bring a damsel all the time.

So how unoriginal am I?
>>
>>82625184
This. Just trace and edit a little, anon. Why improve your skill in drawing when you can do it the easy way?
>>
>>82625353
Reminds me of this Disney Channel Original Movie I saw when I was a kid. "Up, Up, and Away", I think.

Also, anything with superheroes needs a dramatically original take on it or it's like white noise. I think your idea could end up pretty good, but the premise might get a little stale. What else is there to the plot?

>>82625583
Who's a chump? I'm serious. Do it~ It's fun tracing. Shaves off unnecessary time and effort!
>>
>>82625463
It's mostly like him just hating Superheroes and villains in general as they pretty much ruin his life even if it isn't related to his family like being stuck in traffic while a giant battle is going on.

Mostly things like that about how his life gets fucked over by the capeshit that hits his world. Plus I'm thinking about using the idea of him considering being a super villain most cases but as a tease most cases.

It seems generic and awful but I'm hoping to find out so things to spice it up. I'm going for more of the comedy drama feel of it, pretty much showing the hardships of living life within the shadows of others. But I'm just testing the waters on how it works.

Should I play it straight or go full parody
>>
I miss Jim Shaw
>>
>>82625656
Eh, that sounds like it might work as an episodic comedy along the lines of Dan Vs., but it really needs a set story if you want to take it beyond gags. "I'm late to work because the villain of the week melted the road and ugh now I have to watch Captain Amazing beat the shit out of him while flying, how ironic that I find this blase and annoying" will work as a joke once before it gets tired.

You can push him as a supervillain but does he actually hate his family or is he just kind of jealous? Is it in his nature to commit evil or is he hopelessly incompetent? Is he proficient with villainous technology or is he just winging it and hoping no one notices he has no power?
>>
>>82624818
ah cool
you should probably say that when you post art. it makes it more fun

Yeah with action figures, it's going to be an action comedy drama, but it's all just parody.
you know how wwe always has some bad plot, like Wrestler A slept with Wrestler B's sister or some shit? that's pretty much it.
i'm thinking of using shitty dollar store wrestling and action figures for the characters, and cutting out images of people in magazines to be the audience kinda like how you see them in a ps1 or N64 wwe game.

To the anon who asked before:

No, I don't have a background in animation, but I have studied the contrasts between conveying motion in animation and conveying motion in comics for a long time. As a sort of hobby, and in the development of my own techniques.
>>
>>82631304

Hey, this isn't bad!
>>
>>82625172

Disagree. A lot people won't even give your story a chance if the art is shit. Conversely, if your art is really good, that can motivate people to put up with a mediocre story.

So unless your writing is God Tier or something, it's hard to hold an audience with even mediocre writing and shit art.

It's comics. Not literature. To me art is weighted more heavily.
>>
>>82633083
I love it. Nice page! I also like that you write your own sound effects.
you wrote that, right? that's not a font?
>>
>>82633155
I'm the exact opposite. Writing is what matters. I'll overlook middling art if the writing is on point. But if the art is great and the writing sucks, it just ain't good enough. Good visuals can only carry the work if it's animation. Still image comics? Writing all the way.

And I'm not alone in that sentiment. It's almost like many people have different tastes or something, and it's a fool's errand to make the post you made.
>>

>>
>>82633155
>Conversely, if your art is really good, that can motivate people to put up with a mediocre story.
I'm with you. I've read through countless chink comics to confirm this. HOWEVER, there is a limit to everything. A story with really shitty art like the OG One Punch Man still pulls in readers because of the story. Not to mention, even if the art is gorgeous but the story utterly shit, it'll only take time before the readers grow weary. You can only pull them in for a limited time.
I think topnotch art is good bonus and eye candy to attract people, but don't make your drawings look like utter shit too, you know.
>>
Good writing is important. And so is art.

But one is more important than the other, and its writing. Because writing is what has to be good FIRST.

But the mistake people are making is wondering how they'll gather the most eyeballs. Brad Bird knows what's up about this; You can't account for an entire audience of people you'll never meet. Too many pitfalls. When you're creating something, make the thing YOU have always wanted to see. Aim to knock the socks off a younger version of yourself.

One house has to be kempt before the other, making it more important. And that is WRITING.
>>

>>82633323
Oh, absolutely, there have been comics where the art was great but the story was SO terrible that it just couldn't be salvaged. OR it had some other significant problem like horrible paneling or gratuitous walls of text.

I'd never say this was an absolute. There's a limit break on everything.
>>
>>82633412

Disagree. In a comic art is more important. If you have amazing art you can basically dick around and people will still at least look at your stuff.

if your art is garbage you'll barely get the benefit of the doubt. At least from me. I've "noped" countless books back onto the shelves after cracking them open. And I'm not the only one who's like that.

But of course, this is a matter of personal taste. All these generic cape artists are still getting work after all.

Also riffing on that other post - comics are about storytelling, which is the synthesis of writing and visual art. It's worth it to be good at both of them - and it's possible to be good at both of them independently but still be a poor storyteller.
>>
>>82634347
Soda probably would suit her personality more. And the type of story I want to make is about the changes that happen in young adult hood, for better and for worse and adapting to those changes and growing up. I picked her as the main character mostly because while she tries to be laid back and go with the flow, she's really quite anxious about her and her friends futures in their 20's.
Also I really like you art style, the beak nosed lady is cool.

ya know i kept adding stuff to it like chairs, hair shine and a bunch of other stuff but ran into to many problems with adding to many details

1-bar chairs in panel 2 distract from Armadillo holding his girlfriends dying body

2-hairshine distracts from the word balloons and pulls the eyes away from the word balloons and makes the page hard to read

3- accurate blood on the floor on the bottom two panels distracts you from both the characters and the word balloons

so yeah, i had to leave a bunch of stuff out that should be on the page so reading the page and seeing the art at the same time would be perfect! perfect page flow!

>>
>>82635228
I can see where you're coming from, but I really needed a break before getting started on chapter 2. This intermission has given me a chance to revise chapter 2 and get around half of it sketched out, build a buffer, get the hang of working in a new program, and generally get it so that chapter 2 won't suffer from a lot of the issues that I ran into with chapter 1.
I'd probably have been able to get around to this faster if I didn't make the inbetween strips, but I really didn't want to go that long without any updates at all.

I was hoping the setting of the strips, being more focused on the day-to-day lives of the characters when they're not on any kind of adventure, would let the reader see them from a new angle - Skeggöld as the rookie valkyrie who hasn't gotten used to all the magic stuff, Skalmöld's past coming up, etc. Also, a few subtle plot seeds and character introductions that will hopefully one day bear fruit.

Anyway, at worst there's gonna be one or two strips of filler after this one, so I hope you'll bear over with me 'till then.

Roughs/pencils for page 1 of an 8-page mini-epic. I have it thumbnailed out on paper, and I'll aim to build up a buffer then start it next month at one page a week.

P4: I thought the white haired girls were twins from the thumbnail, but they have completely different eyes. Maybe make white girl 3 even paler, and give pigtail girl 4 a ruddier complexion and redder hair, to get a little more variation in tones and to contrast more with Skeg at the back.
>>
>>82635815
Different guy, but the only filler strips I really liked were the newest one with Skeggold and (coincidence???) the one with Skeggold sharpening her axe. The other ones had problems, for example Death Pants was such an obscure reference that its impact was lost on most people who read it, and the one with Skalmold's ex personally made me scratch my head because I didn't know enough about the character (until you pointed it out in /hyw/, something the average reader doesn't go to) to understand why a teenage-looking girl would have an ex that looked rather old. (that one also has the problem of once again being Norse mythology that most of the readers won't get until you explain it to them, which kills the joke)

The stuff that was simple, like with Skeggold sharpening her axe and the most recent Skeggold one, worked, but the stuff that was more complex and required more advance knowledge of Norse mythology and the characters (knowledge that the average reader doesn't seem to have) didn't work.

I hope you don't view this as harsh criticism or anything, I think your comic is one of the best in /hyw/, I've just seen so much anime I don't have patience for filler that is largely lackluster.

That's intended. They're supposed to be identical except for the eyes (even then, the eyes are supposed to have the same general shape).

Ruddier skin's a good idea to make roundface stand out but I want to keep her blonde for that stereotypical Wagnerian Brunhilde look.

>>82636363
Nice trips.
I see where you're coming from too. With Death Pants, I'd hoped the joke "Svipul is into some weird magic shit" would still come across, but I think I got into a cow tools situation where people assume there's more to the joke if you know the context.
The one with the ex, I definitely overestimated how much the average reader would know about Norse mythology (or perhaps rather how readily they'd make the connections between stuff they kinda know) and relied too much on implication for Skalmöld's age - even if the reader reasoned that Skalmöld must be older than she aååears, it would take long enough that the punchline would've died.

You're not coming off as harsh at all! I really appreciate the feedback.

I wrote a sex scene for my occult detective comic today, which I almost never do, because I don't want my comic to be labeled as a sex comic or anything, especially since it's a gay sex scene, so I can see it being off-putting or hard to take serious..

But anyway, just drew some back sides to see if, well, if I could draw them. And as always, I ''modeled'' for these myself. Usually I draw in front of a mirror, but drawing over your shoulder just felt so ridiculous that I just took some pictures.

What do you guys think? Yay or nay backs? And also, what do you think about sex in comics? I personally don't mind it, if it's anatomically realistic and without ''porn noises''. Cartoon sex I can't handle, instant turn-off. Just can't take it seriously.
>>
>>82637387
Yeah, sometimes you need to use common sense when using a reference picture. Many times the drawn pose is anatomically perfectly correct, but comes off as wonky, cause human anatomy can be pretty wonky sometimes and in specific poses.
>>
>>82637813
Those have really pronounced hip curves and buttocks for men.

Personally, I usually skip sex scenes in comics.
>>
>>82637813
jesus you've got some waist and butt going on. though each picture exaggerates it more, so i'm thinking you intentionally deviated from your own anatomy to get more variety

anyway do all the sex you want. the most offensive thing to me is a person holding back
obviously -i'm- not going to enjoy a comic with gay sex in it, but i wouldnt anyway if you kept it out just for me. how the fuck would that make me feel?
>>
>>82637813
Well I'm asexual so I don't reed porn comics, but I don't mind if it's part of the story. I meen, every normal person has sex so it makes sense. Are you yourself gay or is that just the characters? anyways, I think those backs look ok, though I think the anatomy is just a bit off. >>82637955
Ha, I have mild scoliosis too, so it's funny you noticed it.

And yeah, I'm bi, so I like to explore that a bit in the comic. I don't want to glorify sex, though. I want it to be more realistic, mundane, disappointing, rough, drunken, spontanious, quick, dirty and all those things. Maybe you get a sense from those pictures that I'm aiming to do a porn scene, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I want to keep it real.

You shouldn't take it. The art in >>82640108 feels...boring. It's technically well done, it just has no life to it. If you look at art from other comics in this thread, The Sisters, Carrion Girls, Green Knight, Miss Melee, hell, even West Tree, those comics all feel more vibrant and "alive" than yours does. While on a technical level, they perhaps aren't as polished as your art, the art reads way better because of their style. Your comic...has no style. It's just generican American-style cape comic art #532790.

Shoving tits everywhere doesn't help either, it reminds me of Grimm Fairy Tales and other garbage like that which uses cheesecake to compensate for other deficiencies. Sorry, man, but that shit's boring.

I mean what I said. She's tilting her head (making it look like shes looking down on her enemy) while pointing at her enemy. Its funny, butnot extremely bad. Like shes mocking her. Nah, good old man-on-man-action. I'd be super interested to explore lesbians, but honestly, I don't know any lesbians. Even though my comic has magic and all, the more human parts are 60-70% based on my own life, friends, family and whatever experiences I've had throughout the 21 years of life. I write what I know and see, so that's why I've settled with men for now. But I definitely want all sorts of stuff in to my comic.

The sexuality is overt because it's a commentary on expectations of superheroines. The sequence is an illusion where they are all hyper sexual. One of the characters I freaking out about it.

>>
>>82642872
>Carrion girls s full of cheesecake, sex
You haven't read Carrion Girls.
>>
>>82642392
Not them, but the big thing that strikes me is you should work on your anatomy for the faces. The painterly style doesn't really match with their exaggerated features, and sometimes they're clearly squashed or skewed in a way you didn't intend and it looks really messy. Faces are the first thing a reader will notice about a character and getting them down should take artistic priority in a character-driven story.

You have some minor issues with consistent lighting and over-rendering, but overall your backgrounds pass the "squint and this could pass as photographic" test. Something to keep in mind would be that eye whites aren't always white, be sure to sufficiently shade them in shadow.
>>
>>82642872
I just think people are bored with 'normal' erotica. When's the last time you sat down and watched the kind of porno that you could rent at a movie store? That plays it totally safe to maximize sales, and has a bunch of standard barbies?
I knew right away this page was trying to intentionally evoke that image, I was just saying it has never aroused me. Way too normal. The equivalent of "sexy lingerie" or the whole leather and whips thing. It's so old now it practically smells like your grandma.
>>
>>82642975
I agree with you when it comes to Skalmold but not Skeggold. Skalmold has a very weird face that's off-putting in more than one way, but the only way I can articulate is she ends up looking like Pearl from that crying and singing show.
>>
>>82642950
nor green knight really. I think that's probably why that scene got the reaction it did. It felt like this guy is so mainstream he probably doesn't understand what makes comics special. he thinks nudity is sex, he thinks bimbos are sexy, and he's trying to make some kind of statement with it
>>
>>82643018
Skeggold looks like a wind waker character on a good day, but once in a while she skews badly. I think consistency USED to be this artist's issue, but it's getting a lot better lately
>>
>>82643018
I'm afraid I'm just looking at the pages and haven't read it yet, but I actually like Skalmold's face if she's the Pearl-looking one. It looks intentionally disturbing.

I was also basing it mostly on what the "most recent" pages were, but based on the art I think those pages are much older and I'm not sure why they showed up as the most recent.

Hell, there hasn't even been any sex in the comic, and I've been trying to tone down the sexual content lately so more people can focus on the humor and stuff.
>>
>>82642975
Oh that. Yeah.
I've pretty much always had a really hard time with the precise proportions of faces, which is why I went with the exaggerated features in the first place, and it doesn't help that I'm constantly fiddling with the exact proportions.

>consistent lighting
As in, the direction of the light? Things not being affected properly color-wise?

>over-rendering
I'm a little vague on the exact meaning of this phrase. Could you explain?

Direction of the light is a big one. Take the first panel in the most recent page, I'm not sure where the sun is. Based on the tree in the background I'd assume it's behind the characters and a bit to the left, but their fronts should be more in shadow based on that, and I don't see any comparable cast shadows from them or the bird. Shading based on the planes of the faces would also tie the shading together more convincingly, and their hair features too many highlights where there should be shadow (crappy trackpad edit in picture but you get the idea)

And I might have had that backwards. A lot of your rendering is a bit harsh and sketchy and could be softened for a more natural look.

And in that case it just means the issues are still relevant. The last few pages of Chapter 1 had better art than the most recent pages (just most recent in the sense of the ">>" button, nothing fancy) so I wondered if you put older strips up, but it seems like it was just situational.

I've been lurking these threads for a while and been looking at feedback here and there that's actually helped me. I want to start up a one off comic with this guy here named Chandy McCullough. He's a police commissioner and works mostly on repossession and crimes such as theft, soliciting, and street fights. He's also based on this guy right here: http://wikimon.net/Burgamon

My question to you all is: what interesting things would you guys like to see in a police type comic? Nothing overly graphic or violent of course, but something that could be real comfy to read and you have a little fun reading.

I'm a huge digimon junky right now but I have more ideas and characters for webcomic ideas that I'll post in any subsequent threads to get some feedback on.

well the sexual content has always been pretty damn funny. that should be a good rule. whatever your comic is, everything in it should serve that function or at least not get in the way of it. if it's comedy, the comedy shouldnt come to a grinding halt because of sex. if it's action, the sex should either be actiony or be a nice resting point in between excitements

it would be nice to see more 'generic monster people like you'd see in an anime' comics. it's always humans or animal anthros, or sometimes aliens. i wanna see this guy running around with others of his race
as for ideas.. eh.. i've never been a fan of the police genre. but i can tell you that once in a while when it's REALLY well done, I like it. And here's an example of that. http://www.shigabooks.com/bookhunter.php it's a short read that i think anyone doing a police comic should check out.. it at least illustrates the value of research (in this case it'd be great to do sort of.. fake research on the ins and outs of this fictional world)

Do you feel like this is a general problem with the art? I tried going back over my more recent strips and that strip was the only one where I could easily spot that kind of mistake.

> A lot of your rendering is a bit harsh and sketchy and could be softened for a more natural look.

I really feel you on this one, but man, I just feel like there's just never time. By the time I've finally gotten the basic idea of the page working and roughly blocked in the colors for everything I'm usually starting to run head first into my deadline and I never get around to a lot of the soft gradations.

what web comics have been turned into cartoons?

since i was 17 i have been writing and slowly changing a story that i would like to turn into a cartoon, i recently started drawing the chatacters with a level of quality that i think would be good for webcomics

now, the thing is, that the earlier parts of the story are just full of goofy and silly stuff, it very slowly becomes something more complex but the thing is that if i make a webcomic, the audience i would get would be teenagers and adults i feel like people would get bored easily and would never get to the more intense part

i can't think of a better way to explain it, but i guess it would be kinda like how a lot of people love dragon ball z because is full of action and fights but they have never seen the original dragon ball or just find it boring because it has a lot of Innocent jokes

anyway don't worry, that's not how it works. the content of the comic is irrelevant, the cartoon will necessarily become its own thing, usually based on the most recent comics, ignoring the old stuff. look at cartoons based on newspaper comics, they didn't worry about how different they were in the old days

Scribble I like you comic, but your Main Protagonist gives me a headache because of how stupid she is, no offense. But she's vegeta if he was as empty headed as goku.
The story is ok, I skipped certain parts because well... I did want to read that much. Try cutting down the exposition a little bit especially for part explaining the sash origin...
Your art is all good bro (manga wise). Might need to work on action scenes and anatomy for your characters human and others. I hope you sketch and pose your characters before putting them out.

Lastly, please just consider that most actions don't always need a sound effect. Reread your stuff and you'll get what I mean (actually make the sounds too, it helps determine whether its necessary or not).
Good read bro will hope to see more as an artist my self, visuals are good and dialogue a little cringe (once ever 5 pages or so).
Good Luck!

>she's vegeta if he was as empty headed as goku.
i thought that was the idea. she made a stnank, got someone hurt, and tried to pull her shit together. now she's being a lot more... eh.. careful isn't the word, but she's clearly putting a lot more care and less knuckleheadedness into her actions. trying to talk through shit a bit, and hurrying so she won't be too late
that said, this massive hiatus came at a pretty bad time. i assume we'll get more soon because right now it just sort of paused..

not to start some THING, but it's weird you're asking him to work on his action scenes. i'm not even exaggerating when i say nobody else does them better. demon's mirror does them AS well i think. i wanna know how it could possibly improve (might learn something myself)

>>
>>82653532
Oh sorry anon let me emphasize, by work on your action scenes...
1. He (And every drawfag here, including me) needs to work on anatomy.
2. He's actions scenes are great man, its just he needs that extra Unf! I mean come on dude there's dust everywhere! (Seriously scribbles why is there dust everywhere) She launches forward with enough force to break stone maybe steel and the ground is unscathed. Simple stuff like sweat, blood, environmental damage (mind you scibble does show this) and hell even bones cracking (sound effect) would add to these scenes, its a comic have fun with the violence.
But thats just me and my opinion, Scibble can do what he likes. Its he's comic for your entertainment.
>>
>>82653998
ohhh yeah you're right, rubble and dust are important
and i dunno about him (it's been a while honestly, i remember getting a solid DBZ vibe but i forget if it had dbz levels of fantastic rubble) but I know I need to add more of that in my shit. Dust i have, but i seem to only use it in thick blinding clouds.. i should use more of the 'obscuring but still transparent' shit. i'm actually gonna write that down

>the sisters is full of cheesecake, sex, and nudity.
It's not really presented in a sexualized manner though, man. Erin fucking Conrad comes right after her learning he's a bad guy and as soon as she's done she tries to murder him. And most of the nudity in the comic has been in a prolonged scene of violence, body horror, and gore.

You could argue Beatrice in her one page of doing her job, but the bulk of the time in the strip club is spent on the guys there.

Of all the comics that were listed, pretty sure the Sisters is the only one that's had sex in it. And if you were turned on or saw it as cheesecake, you got some problems. Which are fine. Different strokes for different folks.

>don't let the tumblr sjw's get you down
But see, the issue people are bringing up isn't even social justice related; it's that there's nothing going on we haven't seen before. It is aesthetically pretty, but like; I could get an actual comic book that looks that way and doesn't have to go down to base lingerie to get my interest. Like what >>82643000 said.

The issue is not technical, and it sure as hell isn't political. It's more like trying to be shocking by having a lesbian kiss on TV. It might shock people in the bible belt; but everyone else has pornHub and is busy exploring the true depths of depravity.

By all means be proud of your work, your stuff is of great quality. But it is lacking some of the heart and soul of comics proper.

>non-mainstream sexiness
Man, it is different strokes for different folks. Nobody needed to bring gender politics or what constitutes normal into this. Not because we need to be tumblr and progressive; but because it's sort of a shitty way to say "if you don't like this, you're incorrect."

Fap to what you wanna fap man. Ain't nothing wrong with what is posted, but it looks like it might have the depth of a Gor novel.
>>
>>82655397
and it sounded like he isnt even trying to be fap material, just trying to REFERENCE relatively-safe-sexiness-as-seen-in-comics
so really the issue is
1. >>82640108 assures us the overt sexiness is intentional to the story, as if someone was going to worry it was gratuitous
2. >>82640231 I reply that it's not going to turn me on so there's no worry that I'm not take it seriously and consider it mere fap bait
when I think I missed the point, since the ones they were probably talking to is people who get upset by sexiness, and those people don't care if something is legit fapworthy in a modern 'we've seen it all, we need something more unusual' sense, or if it's just mainstreamily comicbook sexy. so they really made no error in making that warning about that material. it's just not necessary to make that warning here... and the quaintness of that attitude only adds to the whole 'look at this, this looks so generic' feel. but I probably shouldn't have started this whole chain

The motion lines of the guy in green are kind of a mess.
The straight white lines op top of the image don't line up with each other (you can actually see one crossing over the fat one going through the arm) and don't line up with the motion smear of the sword blade which in turn doesn't line up with the curved green trail. They're all interfering with each other and weakening the clarity of the motion.
For comparison, here's a panel from Vagabond where all the lines work together to create a curve.

You'd be surprised how much heat I've gotten for how over the top the sexiness is. The last two threads I posted in got into me about it so I tried to give some context as I posted but people got upset anyway. This part of the story deals with the inherent sexualization in female supers and the societal expectations inherent in their work. Once the scene is over they will probably go back to more normal proportions and clothing.

I'm thinking of repurposing characters created for fap material into something more coherent, less overtly sexual.
Not my first choice of things to do, but I feel like I have to work on something, get something drawn, to keep my head from exploding and I'm all tapped for other concepts I feel are worthwhile.

Is it worth trying to shake the association with smut, I wonder, or can a plot-focused story stand on its own while the characters are being drawn fucking, elsewhere?

It seems like a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>82639442
Really good composition and pacing.
Mediocre, cramped dialogue.
>>
>>82658822
If you're unable to separate sex fantasy from a coherent character, you're not going to write a good story. The fact that a character has sex shouldn't create a stigma in your mind.
>>
>>82658870
Characters shouldn't be having sex unless you want to strip them of all nobility.
>>
>>82658822
I don't think a lot of people will mind.
But it might be a good idea to make a new cast, anyway, just because characters created for a story tend to be better at stories than characters created for porn.
>>
>>82658987
You fuckin' for real, m8?
There's this story, you might not have heard of it? It's called "The Aeneid."
>>
>>82659028
That's gross.
>>
>>82659117
Exactly. When looking over his masterwork, in which Aeneas and Dido lay with each other's embrace in a cave but are called their separate ways by the Gods, in which Dido is overwrought with grief in having broken her sacred vow for a man whom betrayed her, Publius Vergilius Maro looked down upon his craft and said

"Hhhhh...gross. maybe I should just like...not?"

But woe is he, for he was forsaken by the wishes of Augustus, who kept this vile manuscript alive after Virgil's passing.
>>
>>82658870
>>82659018
I'm not likely to write a good story regardless, but that's somehwhat reassuring.
The novelty of making them mash their privates together is steadily wearing off, I think. I may be able to find a balance between having them too thoroughly and narrowly defined by their sexuality, and disclaiming it altogether.
How the audience would take to it was a greater concern.
>>
>>82659295
>"Hhhhh...gross. maybe I should just like...not?"

I think these page brings up an interesting problem with making webcomics nowadays.

While the art itself, from a purely technical standpoint it’s very good; it's definitely better than anything I could do at my current skill level if I were trying to go for a more realistic character design; and people ITT tend to have a positive reaction to my comic.

However, the reaction on the pages ITT has been rather negative, and I think that’d really due to how the art, while good (though the paneling seems messy, I’d have to read the comic to confirm), feels just like mainstream superhero comics people who read web-comics have gotten bored of.

The internet is really the place for more “niche” audiences; people who look for comics they’d normally not be able to find IRL. There also the fact that the sexual aspect of the comic is just too safe for the Internet audience as well; like someone else pointed out, webcomics ITT which have gone for more stylized characters and LESS CONVENTIONAL female designs will gather more attention.

I don’t think anybody is really “upset” and their intentionally provocative design, but rather that it FEELS like something intended to appeal to the “broader audience” and in doing so ends up being completely safe.

By all means, I don’t want to discourage your artist, the art IS very good, but I think you are perhaps targeting the wrong audience.

>>82643595
For what it's worth, I think the clashing of the more sytlised faces with realistic backgrounds is part of what gives it it's charm. Besides, I noteced you've been doing a better job with values in your latest strip

>webcomics ITT which have gone for more stylized characters and LESS CONVENTIONAL female designs will gather more attention
I have to disagree with this. The attention any comics gather in these threads is due to overall quality, not what checkboxes they tic. One of the more popular comics ITT is Miss Melee which is conventional female central. And it also
>feels just like mainstream superhero comics people who read web-comics have gotten bored of
but people ITT ain't got bored of that. Quality is what keeps people coming back, not the general aesthetic "feel" or "look" of a comic.

You do have a point about that comic looking so mainstream that it alienates a portion of the /hyw/ audience. It just looks too boring and "safe" as you put it, not necessarily mainstream, although boring and safe are what the mainstream tends to be when you get down to it.

>>
>>82668267
Not that Anon but in my opinion it's pretty current. Women in positions of power are supposed to be powerful while also gentle, delicate, sexy, etc. Translating a position of power into literally being super powerful sets up a decent metaphor depending how it's executed. Like, I could imagine a female superhero having her picture taken while she's fighting and tabloids critiquing her costume, facial expression, how sweaty and "gross" she looks despite being in the midst of battle. Male superheroes in the same situation would merely be deemed heroic, with any resulting decline in physical appearance merely being dismissed as ruggedness (were it mentioned at all.) And to the rest of the thread I rest my case. If it were really successful someone like him would've posted stats or monetary figures already. Being on the third issue of a hobby doesn't mean shit. Have you taken a look at how many web comics are out there that are far beyond the third issue and still aren't shit? The fact that you think this proves anything shows how retarded and desperate you are.
>>
>>82669891
You might want to redo the lettering in the first panel because "weaving" is pretty hard to read.

Also I've had it drilled into me over the years that you shouldn't let words bleed outside of word bubbles so maybe you should change the third panel a bit too.

I'm just going to quickly fish for opinions and leave y'all alone until I've done more work, but I'm in the character design process. Making a character who is similar but legally distinct from a Ninja Turtle. Juvenile Adolescent Warrior Shark.
Anyway, my question is this: should I just go with a simple black dot for the eyes or give them a little more humanity?

I'm an artist and can confirm this is the industry standard. Famous creators like Akira Toriyama (Naruto) used mangastudio for his cartoons.

>>82671102
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution

1280 x 720 is 720p display size. It's probably not necessary to go over 1920 x 1080 at the moment.

>>82671201
Because you can only use a computer by typing.

>>82671311
The latest version of Manga Studio 5 / Clip Studio Paint lets you create animations. Though it's probably a good idea to look into dedicated animation software as well.
>>
>>82671302
Something like a knight with sports team coat of arms, or face paint for a more barbarianish look.
>>
>>82671378
Again I'm no expert, MS sounds like something you would use to mainly draw manga, with animation tacked on the side.

Which could very well be your focus. But if you only want to do animation, i can't see the logic in not using something more animation oriented.

Chantelle (the sexy thief) is supposed to have an accent. I have no problem with her in my spanish script. i wanted to give her a french/russian charm. Some guy told me it reads kind of Catalan. so that's cool on my book too.

hope i can do it subtley too in english (in case someone thinks is a mistake and not something that was done on purpose on her speech bubbles, but there may be true spelling errors so there's my main problem right now with her)

Also i don't know if "ought" is used well in that one sentence.

I saw P14 before and wondered why half the page hadn't been translated to English.

"Ought" and "Bureaucratic" as used here are ok.

Page 14, Panel 6, Dialogue 3 - Perhaps change the line breaks to:
Maybe now
that Lucas
might be here
it wouldn't be
that necessary
to be so
scattered.

Page 15, Panel 1, Dialogue 1
Put "I hate it" on one line.

Similarly with Panel 2, Dialogue 1
I lost
my stupid
card,
could you?

Page 15, Panel 3, Dialogue 1
"... they can probably ..." sounds better.

P16, Pnl2
"... strategy for our incursion."

P16, Pnl3
Put "three thousand" on one line
No full stop after the question mark
"Look on the bright side"
Maybe a full stop after "Chantelle", to end that sentence.
"Just try not to make her angry" to start a new sentence.

P16, Pnl5
"That was a sham!" No comma
"... you were with me..."
This could probably do with a rewrite to fit the balloon better.

P17, Pnl2
"Especially dumb" or " 'specially "

P17, Pnl3
Huh,
would you
like to listen
to something
I wrote? I'm
a musician,
do you like
music?
