BvS vs Civil War

which was better

There was always a chance, granted, not enough of one to warrant the blind hype we saw BvS given with all the warning signs against it, but all the same it could have happened.

Still, feel sorry for DC fans.

The Russo Brothers Reveal Three Relationships They Want to Explore in Infinity War

>Joe Russo: Certainly Scarlet Witch and Vision. It’s a very compelling story. Obviously, it’s one ripped from the comics that, for many years, there was some very interesting storytelling and characters. One character is searching for how to identify with humanity, another who is on a journey away from her humanity towards becoming a very powerful being.

>Anthony Russo: I would also say Captain America and Iron Man is central. Can those guys ever repair their relationship? What is their relationship ever going to be like moving forward from this?

>Joe Russo: Should they repair it?

>Anthony Russo: That’s as complicated as anything. The other relationship that’s still exciting to us is, again, Cap and Bucky. The wonderful thing about this movie, which started in Winter Soldier, is that Cap had a belief in him, that there’s still a human being inside the Winter Soldier that he can save and that he can reach, and he’s gone to incredible lengths now, with incredible faith, that that’s waiting for him if he goes there. He’s found that human being inside Bucky Barnes, but who is that guy going forward? Just because he’s found and he’s there, he’s still this crazy, bastard hybrid of who he used to be in The First Avenger and this killing machine.

>Joe Russo: If he’s not Bucky Barnes or The Winter Soldier, then who he is?

>Anthony Russo: He’s somebody new now. What kind of relationship will him and Cap have moving forward?

Robot fucking confirmed.

>If there is one obvious hint in Civil War at what’s in store with Infinity War, it’s when Vision says he wishes he could control the infinity stone in his head. When we spoke with Markus and McFeely, they confirmed Vision’s line is a tease:

>"That’s the most blatant set up I can think of. Yeah, I mean the only thing is just putting them in the bad position so that when Infinity War does happen, they are not going to be a unified front, and they’ll be unprepared for Pearl Harbor."

It's difficult question. For me BvS had at least 15 minutes when I thought it was great (those 15 minutes surrounded by shit piles). Civil War was meh-to-ok movie with some good fun during the group fight.

Overall Civil War is better but it's a consistent minor letdown

also, the scene when Falcon and Cap are "in hiding" so they sport baseball caps and sunglasses for sth like 20 seconds is hilarious.

How would you guys want to see a thunderbolts movie play out?

A movie based on the original comic where Zemo escapes and forms his "hero" team out of villains?

Or some sort of adaptation of ellisbolts where Ross is in charge of a task force of villains including Zemo?

What villains would you include? Where would you introduce them?

I personally would be happy with either. Moonstone could be introduced in Captain Marvel, Beetle could be a small time villain Spidey beats up, Atlas could be in either Luke Cage or Antman and the wasp, and you could introduce Songbird and Fixer for the first time. Abomination is also on the table.
>>
>>82556599
Yeah. Not sure why Wanda didn't just mindfuck everyone on Tony's side and pin down the ones she couldn't get to immediately. That bitch is so OP that dragging Ant-Man into this probably wasn't necessary.

I guess the real answer is that it wouldn't have been as interesting to watch.
>>
>>82556750

Sounds like he should have just let Iron Man repulsor him to death.
>>
>>82556599
spider man was shoehorned because they got the rights as they were finishing up. notice how they only pulled RDJ for the scene and that he's only in one major scene and then an after credit. there's only do much you can do at the last minute and still have the script be good
>>
>>82556530
Seriously though, how did the Russos do it? Two directors more known for sitcom work and they go ahead and make a more competent superhero movie than Joss Whedon, Zack Snyder, Shane Black and Kenneth fucking Branagh.

4 people (with Markus and McFeeley) who get along and can really hammer out a script before shooting. They stay true to the characters and Feige goes out and grabs help for cinematography, score, choreography, etc.
>>
>>82556599
>>82556814
I get the impression that Wanda doesn't like using her powers excessively - especially against the weaker Avengers - for fear that she could kill someone.

I mean, we saw what happened when Vision actually turned his laser on a person, and Wanda's powers are far stronger and harder to control.
>>
>>82556806
A mix of both would be good, like Legends of Tomorrow. Mostly heroes but with like Abomination and Taskmaster as the token bad guys who do what has to be done when things get bad.

First Avengers movie was really competent. It had a completely different mood than Russos' movies, but it was crazy good.

Second Avengers movie was bad; maybe Whedon was over his head, maybe he started pushing his shit too much, maybe it had too much outside influence, I have no idea.

Russos can still screw up in Infinity War; we should not take that one for granted.

They're used to scripts where an ensemble has individual arcs that they have to juggle. Really good eye for timing and pacing. Most importantly they trust their actors which is something Whedon definitely struggled with.

2. Winter soldier/GotG
3. Ant-man
4. Iron man
5. The Avengers

Winter soldier and guardians are tied for second because they're both really good for completely different reasons, and I can never decide which is better. Civil war is basically on the same level as winter soldier, but the inclusion of Spidey, amazing fight scenes, and a top tier villain who doesn't die barely edges it into first for me.

I was never a big Whedon fan but I watched Avengers and AoU a week or two ago and it's pretty clear that he just lost his mind in the middle of AoU.

Guys

What if Black Widow had been paralyzed in the airport fight instead of Rhodey?

I don't have a wheelchair fetish or anything, I just think it would have been interesting to see her as some sort of hacker or mission control in a wheelchair.

She certainly has the skill set for the job, and it could even set her up for her own movie.

>The remaining Thunderbolts become the New Avengers and defend the Earth while the actual Avengers are out in space.

I don't like that the movie basically made Iron Man wrong.

He should be right - Avengers should be under someone's supervision. United Nations, maybe, or maybe just US or NATO or whatnot. In the comics, Avengers were under UN for a while I think. It's not such a terrible concept. (Unlike Superhero Registration Act that was pure bullshit.)

But he is shown up to be wrong, and the general Ross is an asshole who throws people into prison, and Cap is shown up to be right in the end.

It makes all the more sense that after the worst week of his life. After he created a giant killer robot, after he almost helped destroy the world, after he just had to go to war against his friends, after he saw his best friend lose his ability to walk because of that war and after finding out that his friend who he has been chasing down this entire time was protecting his parent's killer. Part of the problem is that nobody on the anti-reg side really did anything wrong. Bucky was framed and Wanda was trying to minimize collateral damage. I've been avoiding these threads but now that I've seen it I have to know: can anyone explain how the accords were supposed to mitigate any of the issues the world had with the Avengers and why Tony would think it would help? This is a universe where Hydra infiltrated fucking everything including the government and SHIELD. The only argument I can think of is Tony's line about how they'd come up with something worse, but what the fuck can they do to you people, you're fucking superheroes. Don't be a pussy. With accords, they might be directed by some sort of military general as to where their efforts should be focused, instead of them just calling out orders to one another.

So a military capt. might tell them to focus on evac instead of assault, or to relocate here, or how long they should wait before making a move.

It wasn't about military mind. It was about accountability. They wanted to control what the Avengers did so they can be held responsible when they fucked up. Instead of just coming in and cleaning up and leaving loads of collateral damage.

>>82558528
The problem is it doesn't make sense given what's already happened in previous movies. People already pointed this out in several previous threads. Alexander Pierce was the Secretary of Defense personally appointed to the World Security Council until he hailed Hydra and tried to take over the country and the world. He destroyed the World Security Council, but even before he did those assholes were perfectly fine with nuking a major US city to stop an alien portal rather than rely on the Avengers. Garry Shandling was an evil US Senator who was hailing Hydra. The Vice President of the US turned out to be evil in Iron Man 3. There are plenty of evil corporations like Roxxon no doubt with politicians in their pocket.

And that's just in-universe. In the real world the UN is a mess, overly politicized, and often lets shady countries on panels that ostensibly deal with the things they're guilty of. They certainly aren't quick enough to reach consensus to respond to real world crisis. Besides, nobody would trust the UN with nuclear launch capabilities and Ross already compared Hulk and Thor to nukes. Why give them control over the Avengers?
>>
post some terrible panels from Civil War (both the main story and the tie-ins).

I want to be reminded how better this movie was than the comics.
>>
>>82559139
How exactly do they plan to hold them accountable, though? Take sokovia for example. They saved the world. There was collateral damage. The nations cleaned up. How does having accords change any of that? It's the same results. Hold them accountable? For saving literally the earth?

Seriously, people are just completely ignoring the circumstances Bucky is in.

Some have argued that instead of hiding he should've attempted to surrender himself before all this shit happened.

But considering until very recently the government agencies were chockfull of HYDRA, and they are still out there, probably nested deep within agencies, Bucky has no garanties that he won't end up falling in the wrong hands even if he attempts to come clean.
>>
>>82559151
>He is still guilty of those murders even if he was brainwashed

They won't convict him though. At the end of his Winter Solder story arc, they'll find he wasn't responsible for his actions, and that he was just another victim of HYDRA. And once they find a way to fix his mind, he'll be free as a bird.

That doesn't save him from public scrutiny though.

I don't know, she's illustrating a fine point. Captain America stands for the timeless ideals this country was founded on, not the bullshit distractions most of modern America occupies itself with.

It IS a fine point, even if it's not the one she intended to make. Plus it really does make an interesting point. Cap serves as an uncomfortable reminder of the things people take for granted to the point of letting their own rights erode. Of course people don't like that, or want to dismiss him as just "not getting it" because he's some historical fossil.

Bureaucracy isn't inherently good in reality either, and usually just makes life more difficult. Doesn't mean that society would replace it for anything else, since it is a feature of modernity. I do love how nobody points out how Abomination was actually one of Ross' mistakes. He wanted to weaponize the Hulk, or at least the technology that created the Hulk, made his own super soldier who ended up being twisted by the serum (though he was already a little twisted inside, no doubt) who jumped at the first chance to get Hulk's power. Harlem paid the price.

He could not know either Cap or Iron Man will follow him there. That was just a coincidence.
>>
>>82559616
Yeah I think he can do it, but I don't think Snyder knows what the hell he's doing over half the time. 300 and Watchmen mostly followed established plots. Let him in the driver's seat to change story bits and you end up with his Suckerpunch fiasco.

I think he wanted to eliminate "those kinds of people" from the world. The base was where Bucky was deployed from to kill the Starks, so it is likely that was where the footage was. The fact that Bucky knew that's where Zemo was going was a good lure to get them to follow.

Scenes were shot in the First avenger where you could see them fighting both sides, but I guess they didn't include them to give a manichean easy way out for the movie, otherwise most people would have trouble dealing with morally gray movie villains.

In modern times they have plenty of colored people in their ranks, so I guess they'd be more comparable to the Illuminati, maybe, according to the stereotypes? Trying to install a world order and all that.

You mean a literal road movie where Steve takes Bucky and Sam cross country to evaluate who should inherit the shield, but in the end he can't decide and they all get a shield and fight crime as a unit.

It's called ALL CAPS, all caps.

Sam doesn't even need a shield, those wings of his worked quite well.

And Bucky can apparently block bullets with his left arm. Makes sense, as long as he can keep track of exactly where the barrel is pointing.

>Scenes were shot in the First avenger where you could see them fighting both sides, but I guess they didn't include them to give a manichean easy way out for the movie, otherwise most people would have trouble dealing with morally gray movie villains.
The podcast of the writers explained that they CAN'T let Steve Rogers liberate a WW2 concentration camp. Because once you do that, it is impossible to then back out of that and returning to punching a guy with a skull for a head. Them making Hydra not actual Nazis, but only slightly affiliated, is done so it would keep Steve Rogers away from getting involved with Schindler's List tier depressive story, which Steve would never have been able to dig himself out of.

The thing that gets me is the MCU has changed up origin stories. We even have people like Mockingbird and Black Widow who don't have their traditional doses of super juice. Overall I think people have been receptive to the changes. A lot of them have been more organic introductions, sometimes a necessary updating/modernization or reimagining, sometimes just to fit them into stories already ongoing, like Spider-Man's intro.

But Bat of Murder, Man of Murder, Robin designed with a fucking medieval weapon to fight crime. A lot of the changes seem to be just to be dark and gritty for the sake of being dark and gritty. This wasn't the way to win the comic fans but when the casuals turned against it this was definitely not a good sign.

I'm not hyped for Suicide Squad but I know people have their hopes riding on it. I hope they aren't disappointed. Fuck the company wars, whatever makes the industry stronger as a whole gets us more comics and more of the shit we love.

I think they left it ambiguous as to who is right, but both sides admitted the way Ross was doing things was wrong. Tony thinks that they still need someone looking over things, but believes that Ross is the wrong person. What he and Rhodey did was the right thing in their minds and they support that ideal.

That is why I loved the final fight between Iron Man, Cap, and Bucky having nothing to do with the accords or registration. I feel like the fight between them was as natural as the fight between Batman and Superman was forced. The "He killed my mom" line hits you in the feels in a way that "Martha...." could never hope to.

The writers say if Tony didn't show up, Zemo would keep that video and show it later at a time when it would be most effective.

This is why he actually waited until he was sure the plan is finished before he kill himself. If Tony wasn't there then he would have to keep going with the next step of the plan.

The thing that pushes DC's face in the mud the most is that Civil War didn't directly try to shove being better in DC's face. The movie just did its thing and was genuinely better than anything DC pushed out despite the fact that it:
>was the same length as BvS
>had a larger cast than BvS
>Introduced not one but TWO main characters to BvS Wonder Woman
>dealt with a very similar issue to BvS in how the world looks at and treats metas
BvS and Civil War are exact opposites in the good bad spectrum and yet they are very, very similar. The best/worst part is that Civil War was planned a long time before BvS, and yet it still seems to touch all the same bases as BvS and manages to do them better at EVERY turn.

Honestly, given how Bucky's character is developing in the MCU, I think it is morr likely for Sam to take the mantle when Cap's time to step down comes.

I think the 74 casualties were from sites where the Avengers were directly involved like that one with Hulk accidentally dropping a stone window frame onto the camera guy.

Also I would rather them admit that there were people that die rather than have the MoS & BvS response where Metropolis gets flattened and only a dozen people are killed. Then in the next movie they specifically look dead at the camera and say "THIS AREA HAS NO ONE IN IT, SO WE CAN FIGHT WITHOUT KILLING ANYONE!"

Honestly though, you are kind of right that Marvel is playing it safe with Avengers, but they are still delivering quality movies. Marvel takes less risks in movies than they take risks ON movies. They made Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. They take has-beens, no-bodies, overweight comedians, and people with no movie experience and turn them into badass action heroes with sixpack abs.

DC is taking a crap load of risks and none of them are paying off. They are going big and then being told to go home with nothing to show for it. They focus on huge names, big budgets, and epic content and end up with movies that are less profitable than a 52 million dollar Deadpool movie.

Unf. Best girl. Nat and Sharon don't come close.

Why the fuck did they paint Tony as a villain? He was completely right.

The power to destroy whole nations is way too much for a small group of unsupervised reandom civilians, they should be under someone.

> (Also how come DD didn't meet Spidey when he is apparently doing this for 6 months already.)
Spiderman is in Queens, DD and his pals are in Manhattan (and all the way on the west side of the island for that matter). Neither of them seem to venture very far from their own neighborhoods much. Hell, Daredevil can't even drive, what's he going to do when he hears a crime happening in Queens, wait for the next bus? NYC is fucking huge.

What other potential allies? Do you expect him to dip into the ABC or Netflix shows?

All their points of view are understandable. Tony is having trouble dealing with the consequences of his actions. He's not a soldier and doesn't know how to accept collateral damage as part of the job. He wants to pawn off responsibility to someone else, or if not responsibility than at least to be able to point out that 117 countries agreed with what they should do when things go wrong. Black Widow agrees because though she doesn't like it she feels they need to give the world something, meet them halfway, to earn back trust.

Rhodey is fine because he is used to dealing with a chain of command. He did this as Iron Patriot, too. He apparently doesn't feel comfortable with lone cowboy stuff. Falcon already left the military and while we don't have any information that the split was bad, beyond his friend dying, he's been far more comfortable doing what he needs to to get shit done. He probably wouldn't appreciate armchair generals shouting at him when he's flying around seeing what he has to do and they're telling him not to do it.

Vision just believes in order, preserving life. It's harder for him to predict things in chaos. He likes structure, for things to make sense and have rules. And in the movie he got a taste of how even when he's doing what he feels is right unforeseen consequences happen and he nearly killed his own teammate. Wanda was hesitant until she felt what it was like being held back, even if it was just her going to the grocery.
