I am just going to repost what I understood from what the writers explained:

>The reason they didn't kill anyone, and in particular not killing Steve Rogers, is because they want the team broken and disorganised when Thanos show up. Death of a team member would have forced the team to rally and reconcile, and that would not be the desired end of this film.

>Further, the writers think death at this point in the story is actually LESS painful than the alternative. They want the team members to fight, and then to live with the fact that they are no longer friends. Not having deaths is one of the reason why the team is currently in taters, as death is too great a unifier.
>>
>>82550082
I was hoping one of the Avengers would die. I think it's too early for Bucky to be the next Cap. But it needs to happen. I'd be happy if they gave him his own movie. Cap and Black Widow could should up in it too.
>>
How does Spidey stack up strength wise with the rest of the MCU? Just below Thor?

>Death of a team member would have forced the team to rally and reconcile

Good point, didn't think of that.
>>
>>82550256
>How does Spidey stack up strength wise with the rest of the MCU? Just below Thor?

Probably above Cap and below Thor. Seeing that he carried that thing in the airport when Cap broke it with his shield. He's pretty strong for a teen kid.
>>
>>82550231
I agree, I'm glad Cap didn't die for the reasons the creators stated about it being too easy of a unifying fix, and because I want Bucky to have more recovery time before he has that responsibility of taking over thrown on him.

God, Bucky's life really sucks. Iron Manlet almost murders him, but it's okay because T'Challa is a bro and awesome doctors in Wakanda fix his brain and give him a new arm, he's good to go with his new life, and then Steve gets killed by a crazy purple alien dude collecting jewelry. If I were Bucky, I'd nope back into the ice.

BuckyCap and Falcon movie will be based, though. I love Falcon flying around and throwing Bucky at things.

This was done by BvS. Looked at how "meaningless" the death felt. Yeah sure people now love Superman in their world but didn't some people doubt and hate him a few days BEFORE his death?

In the comics, his death had meaning because he was established as THE SUPERMAN. A God in a world gone mad

WHERE THE FUCK IS HE
>>
>>82550412
>Why did they kill the coolest character off 5 minutes into the movie
The writers mentioned why.

After they agreed to not kill Cap in this film, they had to decide what to do with Crossbones. They decided that he doesn't have enough of a future prospect, and that it would be a great misdirection for comic readers that they would assume Crossbone would get away.

And the other point is that they NEED the incident with the bomb to have no living villiain surviving. Because had he lived then the bombing would be blamed on HIM and not the Avengers. Civilians are petty and would blame the nearest living person they felt was responsible. By having Crossbones kill himself, it is the unfortunately realistic way to cause the angry public to get mad at their rescuers instead.

Sam stole the movie. Incredibly creative use of a bland power/ tech set. Scotts two scenes where great too.

The Crossbones exploding scene was fucking retarded.

So, either she lets him explode in the crowd, killing people and Steve, or tries to move him somewhere else, and kills people in a building instead.

Or doesn't stop him, and the biological weapon would go off.
>>
>>82550709
They needed to clarify that Tony looked for him to pacify/wrap up his allies in a non-violent way to bring them in. They didn't. It's implied, though, since Stark says "What we discussed, keep your distance and web them up."

So it was clear he picked Spider-Man to round them up.

The point is that they have been going all over causing insane destruction in the ways they stop the crimes from occurring, and a lot of criminal activity is because of them in the first place, like Ultron.

Sure, it's awesome to send Hulk smashing in a city full of pedestrians during an alien invasion, but the aftermath is still Hulk smashed and probably killed people just like the aliens.

I doubt we will but I really hope we get to see Spider-Man pre-Civil War days in his movie.... I really want to see more of that makeshift costume. We never really got a good look at it.
>>
>>82550883
No
>>
>>82550883
>Could Peter lift the hammer?
Since you brought it up, the writers of Civil War bring up the possibility that Vision might have lost his "worthiness" at some point after AoU. The idea being he was pure in the beginning because he was a newborn, but now that he is starting to learn and form ideas he just might be making mistakes now.
>>
>>82550883
I don't think we know enough about this Peter to figure that out, he's a good kid but I doubt he's worthy.

>>82550966
This enchantment surrounding Mjölnir prevents it from being wielded by anyone save those who have been found worthy. Thus far, this includes Thor, the Red Norvell, Buri, Bor Odin, Beta Ray Bill, and Captain America. To anyone else, Mjölnir cannot be lifted from the ground. nor wrested from Thor’s grip. Those who are deemed worthy are able to wield Thor's powers. Captain America said "I've never wielded such limitless power before!" "It's almost intoxicating!" As the true master of Mjölnir, Thor can also will unto others the ability to wield the mystical hammer, bypassing the worthiness enchantment, and also empower them with his own godly abilities. As long as he is alive, no one but himself is able to wield the hammer.
>>
>>82550950
>kill someone

WUT? Not even in the Nordic logic that makes sense.

>>
>>82549452
Hey, at least it's not Detroit
>>
>>82550966
>So Thor's worthiness requires he never makes mistakes?
The idea is that Vision's worthiness wasn't earned but was what he was born with. And as the writers noted, Thor loses his own worthiness all the damn time. So if Thor can lose his own worthiness if he wasn't careful, so could Vision. And Vision really lacks the experience to make the right choices.
>>
>>82550999
I think the point he's trying to make is you have to be willing to do what has to be done even if it conflicts with your morals.
>>
>>82550968
>>82550837

Pilots survive crashing their planes all the time, because they still have control over how they come down.

>>
>>82551024
Still does not make sense. Based on the Beta Ray Bill, to be worthy someone must be a champion of nobility, strength, courage and wisdom according to Asgard standards.

Spiderman can not lift it because of his humility, and mental weakness, because the hammer requires also a great mental strength, which does not mean doing extreme things or kill people.

in fact, it still makes no sense given that Tunderbraker was nothing special

And this is conjecture because they didn't outright say this. But combining the fact that they had previously made Antman Team Ironman, and then was forced to switch, it might explain why they said they needed another hero on Tony's side at the airport. (switching Antman means suddenly Cap has two more heroes than Tony does.)

This person, as explained in the podcast, was Spiderman, but then they thought they lost him so they gave Black-panther a combat role. Then they end up keeping both of them.

Yes, Cap was wrong not to tell Tony ahead of time. No, Bucky does not deserve to be murdered because of shit that he had no control over.

You really think Tony would have been proud of himself after he cooled off and realized he just killed Steve's best friend, who is a torture victim and brainwashed POW? And he let the real villain just get away? He'd be no better than Zemo and he'd know it, it'd be a hole that Tony would never be able to climb himself out of, and Steve would never forgive him.

I feel bad for Tony, but he had to be stopped.

I was so fucking hyped seeing Spider-Man and I was ready for him to take the limelight, and they immediately switched back to the serious tone of Iron Man and Captain America.

It made me realize that even with Spider-Man there, these two incredibly grounded serious characters could make it all work, and Spider-Man worked even better because of that.

Why would you want Cap to die when he was going to be in Infinity War? They refuse to kill him when no one was going to believe them.

More importantly, if he died then there would have to be a funeral. And that means all the Avengers would have to be best friends again and end up working together. The whole POINT of not killing anyone is to STOP the team getting back together.

That's not even the issue. It didn't amount to anything because the entire conflict was brushed under the carpet in the last 5 minutes of the movie. Cap writes an apology letter, Tony is happy his friends get broken out of jail, and everything is hunky-dory.

No, because Tony said Wanda has no rights because she isn't an American. Steve is offended at that.

True, but he has Rhodey who believes in him, and presumably vision too. He really has lost everyone except Rhodes at this point. I thought he'd be more fucked up after losing Jarvis than he was, but you can still kind of see it in AoU even if none of the other characters notice (par for the course), and of course at that point he still had Rhodey and Pepper. He seemed to be growing close to Bruce and then Bruce fucked off.

If they'd killed off Rhodes he'd have had even less than he had in that cave in Afghanistan. And everyone would probably still assume he was fine, because he's got all that money and all those quick jokes.

8/10 movie. All the characters had their spot, Vision had more character and made more sense than he did in Avengers 2, same with Wanda, and there were supposed to be important there.

The main story is great and the villain makes sense (and I am not mad they made Zemo so different from comics).

I would add 2 points if they cut some storylines and some characters. I still think Spider-Man didn't need to be there - it would work better without him - and the story would be better if they cut out Sokovian Accords and made it purely about Winter Soldier and reaction to him. Also I think it would be better without Black Panther and his storyline.

Not saying it was bad, all the characters - including Black Panther and Spider-Man - had an arch, a motivation, a clear goal, etc, but the story would be more clear and "pure" without them.

But it was a great movie. Will see again.

On that note, the Civil War writers say they believe Steve Rogers was no longer a virgin when he was frozen in ice. The idea being it makes no sense that someone that physically attractive and travelling across America, could not have possibly avoided meeting hot and willing women.

And really, Peggy Carter was never officially Steve's girlfriend for most of the film.

You outright ignored the fact that Ross IGNORED EVIDENCE. He didn't say the evidence doesn't matter, he just refuse to do anything about it. Ross never gave a damn about the UN.

Do you think the UN would not care that the personal who ACTUALLY blew up their building, would be on the loose? This isn't about Bucky, this is about catching the one responsible for blowing up the UN. Are you saying it is fine to let the real culprit get away because you rather catch the scapegoat?

Yes.
Honestly though, immediately after Iron Man 1, the writers just fucked Pepper's characterization all to hell. Part of what made her character so great was that she was the only one who could correctly interpret Tony's bullshit, and call him on it. Then Iron Man 2, 3, Avengers - every appearance after that she either didn't pay attention or didn't care. The end of IM3 was probably the worst. If you have to sacrifice a significant part of your identity to make a loved one happy, and their reaction is to be happy with that, it's not a good relationship.

Huh. I really got off track there. Anyway.

They began drafting "Captain America 3" right after "The Winter Soldier" and it'd be just Captain America and Falcon searching for the Winter Soldier while Baron Zemo manipulates the government. When "Batman V Superman" was greenlit, Feige decided to move forward with "Civil War", which was something that had already been pitched to him and he had considered, but always had some reluctance towards because it was so massive.

It's been said the script was written before the writers got to see "Ant-Man", so in the very first draft Scott was on Team Stark because they didn't know he'd hold a grudge against Iron Man.

With time to reflect, I think Stark realized that treating heroes like the villains is the wrong way to go about this, and that his former friends and allies didn't deserve to be locked up in super prison by Ross for getting involved in trying to stop what they all thought was a global threat. He knows letting Steve free them is the right thing to do because it's bigger than the personal issues between them, which is finally Tony setting his ego aside. But actually forgiving Steve might be a long way off, and I think a big part of that will have to involve him forgiving Bucky too.

Even at the end, no gloating, no sticking around for the fight, no costume, nothing. This is a supervillain for gods sake.
>>
>>82554900
To be fair, he pulled off a lot of shit in just a year. Like finding magic video footage from the early 90s.
>>
Was I the only one hoping that it'd be Hank rescuing them over cap in his old suit?
>>
>>82554900
marvel really have problem with villian beside loki.

I still wish that Zola is actually still alive in a SSD somewhere.
>>
>>82554900
I kind of hate how all the villains are.

Only real super villains are Loki, Red skull, and Ultron. and eventually Thanos

Everyone else is too human, Mandarin was an actor, Whiplash and bucky were just themselves with tech, All of Hydra's ops outside of Johan are normal people in armor or suits,

These are super villains for god sakes, give them flashy outfits to match the heroes. Make them stand out at least.
>>

The movie was a complete mess.
The Martha thing wouldve been clever if Superman hadnt proven Batman's case that he may do bad things and had to be stopped

How did he prove Batman's case?

"DC" didn't exist in the way it does today when Batman and Superman were created.

That's why Crisis happened.

>>
>>82555121
I don't recall two females EVER talking to each other during this movie.
>>
>>82555121
From the website:
>The movie has at least two named female characters (Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Sharon Carter) but they don't talk to each other (The closest they get is when Black Widow addresses Scarlet Witch who responds by speaking to the group).

>Early in the opening scenes, Captain America, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow have a brief discussion through earpieces about surveillance. While the reason for this discussion is their trap for Crossbones, the two women speak directly to each other about Scarlet Witch's relative inexperience. Barely a conversation, but I think this one passes by a hair.
>>
>>82553717

I was pretty hype for most of the movie but this was where I totally flipped my shit.

Batman's position was that if theres a 1% chance he could become evil then he has to deal with it.

Superman was then manipulated by Lex Luthor to kill Batman.

It was alright though, because both their moms' names are Martha

Moral motivation/permanent guilt trip for Spidey. It's genuinely never brought up, and he gets killed prety early on. OG Ben and May were seriously old tho, so I imagine he was retired.

How long has Bucky been unfrozen? Has he been loose since ~1991, or did they thaw him out and refreeze him every time they needed him?

We'll have Wasp go giant too.
The vials Hank and Scott used to shrink in the movie were red.
If you look at the discs however, the red one shrunk their targets and the blue ones enlarged them instead.

If you look at the Wasp suit at the end of the movie though, you'll see that it has both red and blue vials.
