I paid attention, I just didn't do it because I dunno.
>>
>>82541363
yeah. i miss those. i just missed it last time. also rain takes a long time to draw
>>
>>82541404
No it doesn't...
>>
>>82541535
You have to draw each individual droplet with the reflection inside. About 200 times. Why do that?
>>
>>82541601
well i didnt mean THAT
but it is a lot of droplets and keeping them all parallel, making some difference in depth.. then there's drawing the character all properly wet, possibly with drops dripping off of them.. honestly it's a great exercise we SHOULD do
>>
>>82541827
Just airbrush with a 500 px and pretend the droplets are very small.
Please, I use SAI, you have to use the line tool to make straight lines. I should have listened to those fire alpaca users, I should have.
>>
>>82540611
Because people will get their hands either busy on their comic or busy in shitposting.
>>
is it normal for you guys to listen to music for whatever your doing? My sister does this and it kind of annoys me sometimes but apparently there's a certain asthetic it creates.
>>
>>82541913
what is the difference
>>
>>82542086
When drawing, yeah. When writing story, no. But of course. Different strokes for different folks. Lining a sketch and filling base colors can be pretty boring desu
>>
>>82542086
Yes. I usually play three songs in repeat (Goodbye to a World by Porter Robinson, L.O.V.E by Sophie, and DJ Mason's Exceeder.) It usually annoys me so much listening to this shit I try to work faster to finish.
>>
>>82542147
In FA, iirc, you can hold shift to make straight lines and you don't have to make a new layer for it.
Also, they have pre-programmed grids that locks your lines in place.
I downloaded it yesterday, but only to place text on a picture but I used to main on it until I switched back to SAI for muh textures (which I don't even use). FA also has better effects like the gaussian blur and the pixelater. gdi
>>
>>82542171
That's strange, it's usually for writing the story. There where a few days non stop tango and Argentinian music was playing in our house, weird. Well at least I know other people do it now.
>>82542209
That's a creative motivator you've got there
>>
>>82542086
it depends entirely on the kind of music. it can be distracting or really pumpupping
>>
>>82542289
>tango and Argentinian music
fucking why
>>
>>82542275
that just sounds like a more gimped version of SAI, which was already a more gimped veresion of PS.
>>
>>82542593
I don't use PS because I like my layers and I don't want to mod it.
Plus, SAI and FA doesn't take 10 seconds to load like Gimp or PS.
>>
Use Clip Studio if you can.

It's betterer.
>>
>>82542366
That's odd, I wouldn't imagine it'd bother your drawing. What do you listen too?
>>82542493
Well it's always something different depending on where the story's at. One time it was Arabic, another time Gypsie, other times 80's. Other than that, it'll be her normal alternative music like Nervana and Marcy Playground.

Yeah, well you see here's the thing.

My sister has been drawing Jello and pup since she was like 5 years old, and the parents loved it. I guess I got sort of jealous of her so I started my own little fan comic called Yogurt and Pappy. Eventually we both stopped doing those and went our seperate ways, with our comics. I moved on to west tree, and she moved on to fanart.

She's currently loving doing fanart of archer, hopefully she's finally getting over her Hamilton phase.

Me and my sister did a comic in high school called 'real motherfuckin' vampires'. Van Helsing hires a bunch of Crips to help him fight the vampires who have taken over the Bloods. >>
>>82551649
>But I don't want to make a website specifically for a comic.
Why not? A lot of webcomic creators have sites specifically just for their comic.

Tumblr is one option, but you should research appropriate themes. There are also comic hosting sites like Tapastic, Comicfury, SmackJeeves, etc. If you go with your own site, then WordPress with ComicEasel or another webcomic suitable theme is a good option.
I have my own site running WordPress w/ ComicEasel.

Ah, feels so good to draw with a more cartoony style every once in a while. So easy and effortless to throw a couple of curvy lines together and create something cutesy. Sometimes I wonder if I've made a mistake when deciding to make my ''official'' style anatomically more realistic and accurate.

Btw, I don't know why I do these warm-ups before starting to write.

1/3 of that last thread was SHOW US PICS OF YOUR SISTER XD and "Yeah, there are girls in these threads c-cute ones too!" Notice how the women in these threads, despite being nearly half the posters, never post about wanting a QT comics BF or speculate about how cute you may or may not be irl. I want to just draw and not have my fucking romantic potential touched on every time my gender is made apparent. Godspeed to the Mimi author in this regard.
>>
>>82553422

>>
>>82553517
I understand why people make posts like that, I "know where I am", etc, but just make a blog or okcupid as an outlet instead of the webcomic thread, you know? /soc/ is only a click away.

>>82553538
What's the relevance of this and why do you even know or care?
>>
>>82553813
The relevance is you never see the female posters moan about not having a bf because they mostly already have them (or husbands).
>>
>>82553813
oh god, /soc/. not even once.
anyway, there are no satisfying outlets, the hunger doesn't go away until it's satisfied. this problem isn't going to be solved until women stop seeing men as an annoyance and hate how they're always reacting excitedly when they hear there's girls around. best make your peace with it now.
>>
>>82553927
I've been single for five years and do not feel so anguished about it that I have to make comments about dudes in the threads (and I only mention it now to prove a point.) Then again, I don't find the state of singleness to be a problem that needs to be solved either.

>>82553932
Okay, but can you imagine going into a male dominated area to show your work and the focus being how cute (or not cute) you are? This isn't even exclusively on /hywc/ - this happens to me irl too. Men act interested in your work so that they can "get to know you" - the big appeal of 4chan is you can post your work without having an identity; your work is evaluated objectively. I don't want the same bias I experience irl to creep into these threads, potentially diminishing the caliber of comment/crituque the women artists in these threads receive. So it's not being annoyed so much as being worried that I won't get told when my shit stinks.
>>
>>82554270
yeahhhh THAT is a problem. It sucks having to secondguess everything. I'm with you there
Still, beats being shat on automatically for being male.
>>
>>82553813
I don't even want a boyfriend, I just say stuff like that because it's fun.
Do you WANT me to whine to every male in this thread to date me? That would be annoying and I would be lying.
It's not even girls who are affected by that LONDON maymay. I have seen gays that do it to girly looking guys. I have seen women (probably) do it to guys.
>>82554270
Then again here. You're anonymous so it doesn't matter at all. I use a pseudonym on my comic to pretend to be male because I know (hypothesize) more males would read my sort of comic and I don't want to place any politics in it. And I've seen other women and men do the same and it's kind of funny.

That said, I only know for sure the gender of two posters here and the rest I just don't even think about.

The water pouring into her flask and along the drain is just going to be colour so as to remain I dunno, watery looking compared to everything else.

> The water pouring into her flask and along the drain is just going to be colour so as to remain I dunno, watery looking compared to everything else.

I think you could either do that or maybe try a different line color? white maybe?
>>
>>82554388
It sucks that you feel like you can't even use your name without worrying somebody will assume you're going to be political literally because you are a woman comics artist.

Both genders get shit on in different, totally real ways, but at the end of the day male is still the default. You can mention you're a dude casually without being accused of being a snowflake or attention whore.
>>

I'm curious why you think that. I also think you might be surprised, depending on your comic. I'm writing a typically male-aimed genre with a male-heavy cast and most of my few vocal fans have been female.

>>
>>82554693
My comic's all about Satan (not really, but he still has a big part) and he's a pretty cool guy. Very misunderstood. There are worse things to be haunted by, trust me.

Anyway, fuck I'm so into witches right now. I told about the zombie detective on the other day and the witch who brought him back to life, and I think this is more or less what I want the witch to look like. Just a hint of mystery and cat-ness, but not too enigmatic. Mostly she's just an ordinary girl, with ordinary girl problems.

More like "you never were a theater kid if you haven't seen RENT" or listened to multiple poor audition renditions of "One Song Glory" and/or "Out Tonight"

I had so much RENT from 7th - 12th grade that it's like a really good food I can't eat anymore cause I had it too many times.

What other musicals do you guys like? Personally my favorites are A Chorus Line, Next to Normal, and (of course) Avenue Q. Rock of Ages is a close forth, if only for the unbridled camp.

>>
>>82559073
Oh that's interesting, she says it helps her tap into the culture or the story more. Do you guys ever use specific songs for insperation?
>>
>>82559051
Yeah. I do it at work all the time, where I play out entire scenes and dialogue to what I'm listening to.

>>
>>82559111
I wanted to base an entire section of my comic off of 3 music artists but I'm seriously reevaluating it because one character would stuck in some area that wouldn't be part of the plot at all but then that would mean the other characters could grow.
Most songs other than that affect the emotions of the characters but none of the real things in it.
>>
>>82557355
yeah, I don't want to rush anything and have mediocre panels because I was hasty
>>
>>82559111
Well you see, the characters travel through time and too different cultures in order to gain a certain objective, so depending on the culture or time period they're in she'll do research and play that culture/time's music. One of her favorite songs is "we didn't start the fire", I feel like it's very heavily influenced by that considering the historical events the characters encounter.
>>82559180
No way, she does that too! I'm glad, I thought this was a really weird thing to do at first.
>>
>>82542086
Whenever I make my artwork I usually listen to 90s electronica like Flex Busterman or Kt &Hex I feel like visualizing what the music would "look like" helps me gather more personality in my creations. I also feel that listening to music from the time period I'm trying to emanate in my artwork helps me capture it better.

>>82558634
Thanks! Yeah I'm trying to make it full of tiny details and references since this image will be shown in an intro sequence for an entire series I'm working on if only for a few seconds. I'm trying to do something where you'll notice a new detail every time you watch it. There's several other references in there as well, mostly in the stickers on the window.

>>82558730
this guy is correct
>>
>>82542086
It's weird. In my case I listen to a song that I played a lot while playing a video game and I listen to that song while I draw sections that are obvious references to said video game.
>>
>>82559597
>trying to emanate in my artwork helps me capture it better.
That's cool, what type of story do you do?
>>82560111
That's odd but as long as it does the job, right?
>>
>>82560296
It does but it pisses me off sometimes.
>playing stick rangers
>have synesthesia of a song, J-nu-bossa nova and start hallucinating it
>playing WoW
>same shit, Christian rock
>playing, I don't know, Psychonauts
>start hearing breakcore
And it's all on point and exactly like the song. The only time this doesn't happen is when the music in the game is good enough for me not to change the music. And I play too many video games for any of my art to not have influences from it.
>>
>>82560296
Right now I'm doing a sort of cyberpunk comic centering around the classic "Mercenary takes simple job that ends up putting the fate of the universe in their hands" as well as a series of animated tech reviews roughly based in the same universe. The setting Is retrofuturistic of the 90s (kind of like Johnny mnemonic, Hackers, VR Troopers, The matrix, Lain, etc) so I feel listening to popular music among the cyber culture of the decade (or something close to it) helps a lot. Here's some of my favorite examples.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXN0UgkA330

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JChIsq5swNw

How many of you guys have demons in your comic or a demon character? Looking though here it seems pretty generic to have a demon characters and now I feel unoriginal.
>>
>>82562901
ooh me! plenty of those. it was the Xanth influence I think. It's fun having a bunch of supernatural assholes that can't really be harmed normally or banished without a lot of work and preparation.. but who mainly just fuck with people despite the easy ability to do a lot worse.
>>
>>82562901
Demons can be anything. It doesn't dictate the quality or direction of the story.

Makes the question kinda meaningless.
>>
>>82563035
well I think they were thinking something along the lines of like.. how often edgy teenage comics about weird quirky roommates hanging out, happen to involve demons. but that hasnt really been commonly true in a decade.
actually, if the Preteen Demon lady is here, she might give us some insight. iirc it's a sequel to her husband's old comic, which was very much an authentic 00s 'haha we hang around with demons we're roommates it's so fun' comic in the same vein as Krakow
>>
>>82562901

I do but I have my own lores and myths. Or at least I am working on it. I'm not looking to revolutionize but I want to beat outright generic.

She's really just in here to look cool). Another has fangs but isn't a vampire, they're just unnaturally large and her first arc is based off of blood and the heart and arteries and stuff.

Motivation comes from the fact both sides have pissed the hero off. In different ways. The villains being evildoers is obvious, but the not-Justice League smeared the hero's parental figure over petty politics. It's also a universe where said not-Justice League is in decline because the current heads let political pettiness reign supreme.

it's just like.. you're treating each bit of hair for example as a discrete 2d flat jagged shape with a slight height and a beveled edge. the only other time a 'strip' of color following the edges is appropriate is for what they call rimlighting, which is sometimes the way to go. especially if there's a light source behind you. but for shading and highlighting in general, you want to think about the shape in 3d. i'm sure there are some tutorials that could explain it a lot better than I could, but you have to think about a SHAPE on each one

like this piggy here. you wouldnt just do light pink along the top edge and dark pink along the bottom edge

>>
>>82572466
monochrome yes, but those two look really sweet and cuddly for vampires.
>>
>>82572696
Yeah, not to be "that guy" but these vampires aren't especially traditional. They're a species with a specific origin, biology, and genetic reproductive and they tend toward more typical social/moral standards, if not erring on the side of more pacifist.

Weirdly, I ended up giving them a whole host of more traditional vampiric traits as I developed the species according to my rules for them. They drink blood, are able to fly, are sensitive to sunlight, are abnormally tall and gangly, and prefer to live underground. I might give them red eyes because it's to my aesthetic liking but there's really no reason for that and it's a little cliched. I guess I'll see how it pans out.
>>
>>82572896
pacifist vampires eh? okay. doesnt really go with drinking blood, but we'll see how it goes. i'll give you the benefit of the doubt
>>
>>82570287
well post em
>>
>>82572988
They drink animal blood or make exchanges with willing people, depending on taste preferences.

The idea is that the blood is processed and then put directly into their own cardiovascular system (since they can't produce their own), so the blood would just have to be from a comparable mammal. A bird or reptile would do in a pinch but may make them sick. They don't need to consume for the sake of nutrition and an excess of sugar or alcohol in their beverages would probably kill them since it goes right to their heart, but they also drink water and sometimes drink extremely watered down alcohol for fun.
>>
>>82573245
aha.. interesting.. so it's their BONES that are deficient in some way. you could even go all 'we're not saying the V word' and call them the marrowless or something.
okay so if they arent evil and theyre basically just humanlike critters with a terrible deficiency and.. i guess some way of absorbing blood into their veins via the mouth.. then like, what purpose do they serve in the story? are they just kinda there?

Where'd this guy ever go?
>>
>>82573290
Well, they're characters and have a shared culture. They're incapable of using magic and this sets them apart from the rest of the species in the series, but other than that they're just people who are kind of weird looking versions of other species, with all those vampiric quirks. Their origin also fits into a part of the lore which will definitely come up.

My initial plan for the series when I started it was "just throw every mythological creature you feel like into this" and then it turned into an actual story later. It's been pared down a lot since. The vampires used to be a lot more blood-thirsty in a tragic way, but I determined that would result in some pretty reasonably justified discrimination that I thought would be too hamfisted and allegorical as well as inconvenient to the plot.
>>
>>82573512
i misread that at first and thought they were the ONLY people who could use magic
shit so theyre deficient in several ways. sucks to be them I guess.
>>
>>82573595
Yeah, it does. They manage but it's definitely enough to negatively affect them in day-to-day life, especially since electricity's been largely shunned in favor of magic for all the popular technology. The main vampire dude's particularly tragic for a vampire because of [relevant plot events], but he's still naturally amiable.

Tossing on some classic magical racism would have been overkill, I think.
>>
>>82573700
i just wonder.. yknow.. are they just a bummer, or do they end up being kinda special in their own ways?
>>
>>82574392
The species or the character?

The species definitely flourishes despite the setbacks. They have one major advantage outside of flight (a spoiler) and are generally interesting relative to the lore. The character's mainly endearing for his personality and relations, I'm still thinking over how his vampiric quirks could be helpful to the story. I haven't really thought about them as bummers, just disadvantaged.

Life is hard. Be harder. You're going to die no matter what you do. You might as well just stick around for the novelty of it. No matter how bad things get, you'll always die in the end. Live like it doesn't matter. But live. Even for little things.

The most successful way to kys using a bullet isn't shooting your head on the middle or on the sides. They say the most successful one is to shoot yourself from the back. Is making a "gamer dudes" webcomic a good idea?
>>
>>82575749

>>
>>82575749
If you are confident you can do it well and make it somewhat unique, yeah go for it.
Otherwise people will hate you.
>>
>>82575749
I think it can work unless its the type of comic that will only have your characters react to funny ebin scenarios from vidya or the type that's like "we're not like the other normie guys", Bazinga! Dont even try. If you have really fresh ideas, it will work. What else is bad? Some people add in a teaspoon of /pol/ in their vidya stuff to make it more different from the rest, but I think that'll only attract tiresome fights.

If it's a problem for you that people forget that girls exist, you should take matters into your own hands and do something about it. My suggestion would be to insert subtle reminders about your being female into the end of each sentence. Observe:

>Everybody, my comic updated, even though I'm on my period. What do you guys think of it (and by guys I mean actual guys as well as girls such as myself)? Personally, I'm quite happy with the way this page turned out, although my boobs itch.

See how easy that is?

Dobson is lying in the grave he dug himself.
He thought he was better than he was and refused to accept criticism and help from well known and talented arists and actively told those who actually tried to help him to fuck off.

>bullied as a kid so he felt he should have high-confidence and to never give in to bullies
This is one of the things that didn't click quite well with his brain. There's a difference between bullies and critics. As you mature with age, this concept should develop/sink in, but it looks like it didn't for him. He's got damage in the head.

what do you think about having a 14 year old character walk around in a t-shirt and underwear for pajamas? This scene won't be long and I imagine her wearing that but I also don't want to get attached by sjws. Do you think it's ok?

It's like watching reallu ugly paint dry. .
>>
>>82578574
It's in how you draw it. 14 year old is still mostly a kid - there's nothing inherently sexual about a kid in undies. Like those Jam illustrations upthread are a little risque if you remember she's 15, but it's because the pose, angle, etc, have a voyeristic/sensual vibe. There have been other times where she's been drawn in the exact same situation but the vibe is totally different because of the pose, colors, context, posing, etc.
>>
Who else is compelled to draw lewd images of their comics characters?

because I sure am
>>
>>82578645
Ok. It's a sleepover and she does end up talking to a guy there but nothing happens, she just gets sleep pills from a cabinet and goes back to bed.

Cool color tip: Just pick one color for the background and barely deviate from it for the rest of the image. Then toss dribs and drabs of the opposite color. Keeps it cohesive without feeling monochromatic.

Alternatively, pick a background color, color the characters however you want, them slap an opaque layer of the background color over the panel. Then fiddle with the layer styles and opacity til it looks like you planned a color scheme.

I guess someone could get triggered by that, I dunno, but for a normal person that'd the most natural thing in the world. My 13-year-old cousins walk around naked sometimes, which I'm always super baffled about, but God bless them and whatever choices they make.
Anyway, I think it boils down to how ''sexy'' you make it look and how normal it's in the comic. If it's like a breakfast scene and the dad's eyes just shoot out and his jaw hits the floor, then that'd probably be a bit much.

Jeez, it's so ridiculous and scary that we have to think about stuff like this now. Who gets offended, triggered or whatever. Fucking hell.

Those who manage inheritances, succession, estate, etc. as far as I know are called Executors BUT this is if the inheritance is related to dead decedents. I dont know what youre writing about so this might not work. Executor if a heir is nominated by testator to carry out directions and requests in his last will and testament.
Its called Administrator if its a person apppointed by the court to administer and settle estate as no executor was designated by the testator/decedent.

Sometines, people transfer their properties (its alzo becomes inheritance) even before they die for many other reasons (ie. piss of mind, trying to eitger tax ninimization or complete avoidance etc.). So you see, yes? What your character will be called will depend if someone made a will or not. But for the average reader, that thing shouldnt worry much.

reminds me of that old cluster of comics, Less than Kate, Sunflower Girl, and one other I think.. it was done by a pair, both writing and drawing, and alternating who did what and whatnot.. multiple comics about the same people, in different time periods.. and they were just having fun. they liked drawing girls dancing in their underwear, the oldest had a spanking fetish which she found awkward to explain to her sister, and whatever. then over time they were just like 'wow we can't do this anymore can we?' and then gradually stopped comic-ing entirely, and now none of it's even still online. but it was the tamest damn thing.
maybe we should remember that there are nine year olds out there fucking right now and the law turning a blind eye to it as long as neither of them is over 18 and nothing is filmed or photographed, and reexamine our priorities

Well I'm actually a girl and I feel like I have to worry about this stuff. I though it would be most natural for her to just use undies and a t shirt but one of my guy friends thought that seemed to lewd. Maybe it's because there's a guy in this scene too, but I didn't think it'd be a big deal. you know, between colleaugues, we still talk to each other as CPAs or as lawyers. Esecutor or Administrator is what only clients call.

tbH I'm quite a prude to the point where all of my female characters are dressed neck down.

So... do you guys hang around anywhere else other than this thread? Is the skype group where all the cool kids hang out?
>>
>>82586199
well just remember, you're actually hurting people by feeling that way.
>>
>>82586269
How?
I was raised to dress like that and I draw my characters like this.
I often wear either pants or a long skirt that reaches my ankles with boots that cover my ankles (because Englishmen men get turned on by ankles) and I had to burn all my short shorts when I was a teenager because it was unfit for a lady.

>long skirt that reaches my ankles
ew I hate that style . I like my whole chest covered and cleavage showing makes me feel awkward but I'm fine in minie shorts and bare feet or combat boots. Doesn't anyone else here just cruse around in boxers and undies at home like me?
>>
>>82586360
I won't argue that you're hurting anyone with that, but variety IS important to visual composition. There aren't enough girls in fiction dressed as you're describing, but if EVERYONE dresses that without an environmental or social cause, it'll look odd.
>>
>>82586450
Lots of people do, don't be too self-conscious. Just do as you think is right, and be open to criticism without bowing to it completely .
>>
>>82586450
i feel like it depends on lot on aesthetics and comfort but i hate being partially dressed, so i just nude it up whenever possible and fully shirtnpants otherwise. quit underwear a long time ago.
wait are you only asking girls..

My comic isn't set in this reality so I think it's A-Okay.
Also, they don't show skin, they don't wear long skirts because they run around a lot, no worries.

Ok thanks

you're kidding right? girl underwear is soft and delicate, guy underwear is like, harsh rough ribbed cotton. maybe if i had a foreskin it'd be okay. in any case though underwear's dumb as hell, it just concentrates sweat in one of the worst areas for it. the only use underwear ever had was keeping your clothes cleaner at a time when washing them was hard as fuck, so it was better to wash five ankle-to-wrist sets of underwear than a flannel shirt and pants for the average.. lumberjack's wife.
besides i'm too hot in anything, so adding another layer is no way
>>
>>82586450
Well, I'm not a big fan of it myself because it seems like a surrender - "I can't even be bothered to dress myself".
But yeah, plenty of men and women I know just go around in undies or nothing at all on their days off.when they're loafing around.

>>82586594
Not him and the only time I don't wear underwear is when I'm bathing, but testicles can get uncomfortably caught on anything with separate legs.
>>
time to make a new thread you guys. dont just run off to the discord chat
>>
>>82586808
>current year
>cotton underwear.

Why not just wear animal skins, Conan?

Seriously though, get some quick dry with wicking action (I do field work sometimes). There like 10$ a pair but totally worth it. Especially in the heat. I Through all my cotton out.

>>82586808
Flannel boxers are comfy in my opinion, and underwear covers the only parts you need covered when you're just home alone lounging around. Is not wearing underwear under your clothes problematic? Doesn't it hurt your dick or cause problems when you get a boner?
>>
Not wearing underwear is disgusting af m8. Only putrid neckbeards can say that feels good desu
