Crossbones was really badass in his brief appearance. He kickstarted the plot, nearly killed Cap with that suicide bomb, put up a good fight, rekt the police, and generally was just menacing. It's a shame that his goons were bumbling retards with slow reflexes shit aim and glass jaws. In most other circumstances Cap's entire team would have been killed.

He was chasing after Falcon in SHIELD headquarters when one of the Insight carriers crashed into it, Falcon jumped out in time, Crossbones was caught in the building caving in.

I can't think of a better one since the recent cape boom. Avengers 1 may have had me more giddy based on sheer novelty, but this was a much better movie. How do based Russos do it?

So I noticed they said "8 years since Tony announced he was Iron Man."

All of Phase One took place within about a week (Avengers was a bit later). Phase 2 was probably spread over a few months, based on Agents of SHIELD.

Does this mean that there's a 6+ year gap between AoU/AoS/Netflix and Civil War? Or is that just a sliding timeline mistake?
>>
>>82521005
>All of Phase One took place within about a week
Iron Man > Time skip > Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk, Thor > Time skip > Captain America > Short time skip > Avengers

That's phase one. Depending on the time between IM 1 and 2 and Thor and Captain America, that could easily be a two year span. You gotta think that Tony needs time to build his tower in Manhattan and that would probably take at least six months to a year.

I dunno where they get eight years from though.
>>
>>82521058
True, I forgot about the skip between IM 1 and 2, and it makes sense that Thor to finding Cap was probably a decent amount of time. I guess they could easily make that be 2+ years.

Is there any room in phase 2 for a time skip?

>>
>>82521005
I don't think there's any sliding timeline in the MCU. It's pretty much the same as our time

>>82521058
IM1 occurs in 2008, skip a few years to IM2/TIH/Thor, skip another year to TFA, then the year after that was Avengers
>>
>>82521005
The movies happen in real time.
Civil War takes place in 2016
Iron Man took place in 2008
>>
>>82521075
>Is there any room in phase 2 for a time skip?
Not as much because of the "two years between avengers 1 and age of ultron". There's space for a time skip between Age of Ultron and Ant-man but I don't get the sense that it could be more than a year.
>>
>>82521175
I'm pretty certain they mention Sokovia happening a year ago.

For simplicity's sake it seems they're sticking with real-time timeframes.
>>
>>82521174
Yeah, I guess I'm realizing that now. I just always got the sense that they were closer together in time, especially because Agents of SHIELD doesn't really seem to be happening in real time. It feels like they've been a team for ~a year, not nearly three.

Then again, I haven't been taking notes or anything, so I'm sure I've forgotten plenty of time references.

This movie would have been better with Quicksilver in it. I wanted someone to stand up for Wanda (She isn't even my waifu) when Ross or whoever was drilling them about all the death. Or all the other times people were blaming her. Having Quicksilver there being a dick and getting mad trying to defend her would be cool.

They brought in Hawkeye as kind of the "big brother" roll. While I don't want Hawkeye removed from the movie, him sharing the break out and a few other scenes with Quicksilver would be cool. Quicksilver would have been a cool way to show off Spidey's senses and other powers to.

Why'd Whedon have to kill him man?

S1 was definitely possible to spread out over a few months, starting some time after Hydra got Extremis. up to TWS.
S2 is a few weeks to a few moths leading up to AoU.
S3 pretty much comfortably takes place before CW, easily with a few month gap between the mid-season finale and premiere. Not a lot of leadup to CW, though, but maybe Tuesday will have some fallout form there.

Do the comics count as canon? There was that one where it had Coulson and SHIELD track down the heroes and shows what they were doing during the movies laying out the time line. Where it shows Coulson's super gun is the Destroyer Armor broken down.

can't choose most favourite, every actions in this movie are the best. The choreography is fantastic, very brutal, raw and grounded. The set pieces were amazing. Compare to the weightless CGI overblown in AoU, this is way more beyond that.

>>82519840
>is it nolans fault?
It's WB/DC's fault for thinking the somber style of Nolan's Batman movies was suitable for anything other than his particular take on Batman, much less Superman and the Justice League.

You know how a lot of people are saying that studios may get the wrong idea from Deadpool and instead of focusing on humour and character, they're gonna start making vulgar, sexual R-Rated hero movies?

Same thing. They misread the reasons Nolan's films were successful, and tried to ape them without understanding what they were doing.

And Snyder is a hack.

I do remember he escaped at the end right? Was acting all cocky like he would too? Why would he even try to get away then? Guess I have to wait for Cap 4?

Another thing I didn't like. The collar on Wanda when she was in the Raft prison. The government some how mad a collar that stops weird mind gem gypsy magic power? No one in the government ever had the gem to even test that. I wish they would have showed he sedated, but that might have made it to clear that the Raft is a bad idea. A couple more villains in the Raft wouldn't have hurt either, Hammer and whoever else is still alive, Abomination I guess.

So many great scenes we will never get because Whedon wanted to kill someone off. I'm still holding out hope Scarlet Witch will "summon" him much like she did

Antman was out of the fight at that point. Wanda seemed a bit shell-shocked, she probably overexerted herself. Clint and Widow aren't a match for T'Challa, although I doubt Natasha would actually try to stop him after she helped Steve and Buck get away. She left with Tony and the others, so she must have helped with the arrests and disappeared only after they brought Rhodey to a hospital.

When he first arrives, we can see that he has a terrible hangover. During the fight, he's possibly forgetting about this - the adrenaline rush he feels should help. After he falls, the symptoms most likely return, so he's tired and hungover, and he's asking for a common hangover cure.

But the gov. Did have ulterior motives. Ross was super shady and seemed set to imprison them all along. Cap was right and bucky was innocent. Bucky got currupted again thanks to gov. Mistake. Not the avengers. He had a valid point, but was clearly still wrong and as slways making things worse. His best friend got hurt because of him and because of a robot man his robot man made. Because he jumped to blame bucky to please the gov. He gets guilt ridden because they can't save everyone. And pushes that to the max, pretending he's the onlyone that feels terrible about it. Csp just deals with it better because he's not a big man child like tony. Ultimately tony is just a spoiled child who is hurt his parents are dead. Can we talk about how perfect Zemo was?

>Completely sympathetic, motivations are understandable to the point where he could hardly even be called a villain
>Three-dimensional
>Not Hydra, thank god
>Not a physical fighter in any way, his intimidation comes solely from his wit and scheming
>No plans of taking over the world, no delusions of grandeur, his motives are purely personal
>Doesn't engage in a huge battle with the Avengers, doesn't create a giant CGI monster to fight them, the climax is simply the three heroes tearing each other apart as Zemo watches it unfold
>Actually wins
>Once his plan succeeds, he is ready to die because he has nothing else to live for

Why are people saying he's a bad villain again? Sure, he might as well be an OC, but he served the narrative really damn well. I'm worried that next time we see him, he will be a one-dimensional villain like Loki became in The Avengers.

The way I thought of it was: they were both right.

Tony needs oversight. He would have killed Cap at the end. He can be tricked. The superhero community also needs an official relationship with the world governments and tony is good with bureaucracy (ex. Putting Ross on hold).

Cap doesn't need oversight. Killing Tony was never an option for him; I think he would have died before using a lethal option. The whole point of being a superhero is ignoring the red tape that comes with the government and Zemo proved that the system can be fooled.

The world needs a government avengers squad and an off the books squad. And then infinity war brings them back together

No, the big picture isn't excusing a self-regulating group that answers to no one on the basis of one correct hunch. God-Emperor Cap had literally no evidence for Bucky's innocence and rather than work with others to prove it he went renegade, attacked police and helped Bucky dodge the cops. His only assurance was that 'Hey man, he's my friend. I know he wouldn't do a thing like this. We go waaay back'. He was right this time, but that's a terrible system that could've ended horribly.

Yes, why would someone who once answered to an org of pen pushing tech specialists with secret operatives an agendas sponsored by the Gov. that turned out to be a big corrupt HYDRA org in disguise that was going to wipe out a vast portion of humanity have a problem with giving up control to a higher org again? What could possibly have changed his mind or made him biased and paranoid about trusting Governments?

>My individual freedom should trump the wishes of the majority!

uh, yeah, it should.

Tony needs to be controlled as demonstrated time and time again through the movies.

Cap needs to be on his own and trust himself, as demonstrated in the movies.

They're both right. There needs to be an off the records avengers team that can respond without jurisdiction and red tape. There also needs to be a super funded heavy hitter avengers that has some oversight an accountability to appease the countries and to keep Tony from accidentally killing everyone.

You realize how undemocratic that is right? No one is allowed a say on Captain America's team of human warheads because he knows what's best for us? All because of the highly convenient 'government is always evil' trope. That's an extremely childish worldview.

As keen as Cap is to make appeals in Wanda's favour by declaring that she's just a kid, he's got no qualms with using said kid as a soldier as a highly unstable weapon when it suits him. What happens when her dumb ass causes more collateral? Eat shit, because Captain America and his friend's ability to do whatever the fuck they want matters more than your freedom?

>There needs to be an off the records avengers team that can respond without jurisdiction and red tape.

I always feel kinda bad for Tony. Obviously, him acting like a toddler when it comes to emotions isn't okay, but looking at his past, it makes sense. Rich kid with a lack of a real parental figure - both gone all the damn time - means lashing/acting out. At first it's just to get the attention from his parents that he wants, but later on it's because that's pretty much his only experience in dealing with emotions. Being the heir of such a high-label business, dealing with societal expectations of how he should be the Perfect Son & Heir, paired with the public eye constantly on him and his family, highlighting any and every mistake, it can't possibly do good things for your mental health.

Again, doesn't excuse, only explains.

What? Stark doesn't think they're actually his enemies and he has some pretty damn good reasons for not trusting Scarlet Witch. And even then it's not like he wanted her in jail forever or dead. He just wants them to sign the Accords. Also why would he have reason to believe that super strong fucking Spider Man was in serious danger from these people?

A lot of people overblow Tony's "villainy" in these threads and I'm not sure why. It's not as if they exactly portray him like he's in the right in the movies. These movies are very straight up about his flaws and fuck ups. So what are people trying to compensate for?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_friendship

A romantic friendship or passionate friendship is a very close but typically non-sexual relationship between friends, often involving a degree of physical closeness beyond that which is common in the contemporary Western societies. It may include for example holding hands, cuddling, hugging, kissing, and sharing a bed, or co-sleeping, without sexual intercourse.
>>
>>82535919
Did Tony imprison Wanda? I thought that was under government order. When you sign on to obey the law, that's kind of what it entails. You have to agree to their terms as to who goes to prison and who doesn't. The accords made them criminals, not Tony. And they had a choice to sign.

Cap sending Iron Man the package felt weird. Instead of actually having consequences (like breaking up the Avengers) they had some pseudo breakup where nobody stayed mad at each other.
That, and Tony actually consider calling Steve (therefore violating the accords) makes the whole "war" meaningless.

>>
>>82535966
It's a responce to tony is right. When he has his reasons but he's actually wrong. Having a fair point but still being wrong is a thing.

That and 3rd time he pretty much fucks up badly because of paranoia. Every time he gets worse and does more damage. Tony is becoming a threat more than anyone.
>>
>>82536084
And the comic fucking sucks, what's your point?
>>
>>82526789

With regards to the Accords? Doesn't matter either way. They're built up like some big important thing and *nobody* fucking cared about them. Tony himself completely ignores them halfway through the movie (this is Tony I'm-the-reason-this-got-pushed-through-the-U.N. Stark here). It was set up like the "Civil War" was going to be about this big ethical divide surrounding the Accords, but they just give everyone a five-minute scene to argue about it and then drop it.

With regards to the actual reason for the conflict, eg. Bucky? Well, yeah, he was wrong. That was a plot point. Then he figures that out and goes to help, then he hulks out because you can't call your movie Civil War without Iron Man and Captain America punching each-other for fifteen minutes.
>>
Whedon is such an ass.

>ignores SHIELD getting dismantled
>ignores Tony promising Pepper not to be Iron Man
>ignores everyone's characterization to make them QuipBots
>ignores that Cap's shield doesn't stop him from feeling an attack through it (e.g. he groans when WS punches it, he's sent flying when a grenade hits it, he gets knocked down when Batroc kicks it)
>ignores that BW doesn't have super strength
>ignores the fact that giving SW mind control powers trivializes every single fight
>gets assblasted like a six year old when he has to include something from the greater MCU and doesn't want to

Good thing the Based Russos fixed all that shit.

That plays into it. If cap defends an opinion, people will automatically defend it with him and vilify whoever opposes him simply because he's cap and he can do no wrong. Coming from anyone else Steve's perspective would sound irresponsible and selfish, but Steve said it so it's okay.

Tony is right to an extent though. There's nothing wrong with wanting government oversight over ridiculously powerful people, regardless of the "b-but only Tony is dangerous" stuff. Many of them have the potential to singlehandedly be big threats.

Tony being more wrong than Cap doesn't mean he wasn't right about anything. The Accords weren't really all that incredibly stifling or unfair all things considered. Especially when they had the chance to influence them once everyone was on board.

The casting is a bit iffy if you ask me, not what I had imagined. But I have to admit that it looks a lot better than I had expected. They did manage to sort of gruff Cumberbatch up some and it sort of looks like he might pull it off.

But I am mostly just excited to see Doctor Strange now that it actually looks like they want to actually do Doctor Strange.

First of all, fuck the government. If they were to do their job, there wouldn't need to be superheros running around.

>>
What got me was that Steve never really offered an alternative. He just said that his group of heavily armed and superpowered vigilantes shouldn't have any oversight period, because "the safest hands are still our own".

I wonder if it's because he knows that, if he was for example a soldier and his team fucked up and killed 17 people as collateral, he'd get thrown in jail or at the very least dishonorably discharged?

Tbh I'm surprised that Nigeria didn't throw a fit about a bunch of American-based vigilantes shooting up the place. That SHOULD have been a big international incident. Heck, their existence should have caused concern. Everyone should have been yelling at President Ellis and asking him what the fuck he was thinking.

But as the audience we know ross hates capes out of his control. That and he did lock them up as soon as he could. Also the military works slow and on false information. I thought it was silly too. It should have been about Ultron. Damn, an Avenger risked everything to get a nuke out of there that they fired. How could they twist any of that around like the Avengers were in the wrong?

>>82536691
I would have taken from the LAST reveal, in the context of the movie, it was a move to ground everything and made the stakes higher, but still leaving open for another scene to have a more emotional impact.

in other words, would had been 2dark.
but i would have liked it, but not much War Machine is kinda cool.

I don't see why they would do that. There's no way in hell Don Cheadle could take the crowd-pleaser role from RDJ.
If they wanted that, they should have kept Terrence Howard.

Because ross end game was to put them in jail. It was a political dick move. Tony fell for it because of guilt. Steve has more experience with it and stood his ground.

Mark Ruffalo is the Rudd fan who started that meme, but he's mentioned Paul Rudd in old interviews before.

He incapacitates SW after she incapacitates the rest of the Avengers and could have killed her there if he wanted. He also gives a pep talk. And kills some robots. Like seriously I think he killed more robots in that movie than CA.
>>
>>82536799
Killing somebody is 2dark? It's not like it's a kid's movie, and even then, people die all the time in kid's stuff.
I could see where they where going with the emotional impact bit, but Tony making Rhodes exo-legs kinda took that away.
>>
>>82536859

He beats out Black Widow. I honestly feel bad for her. Everyone else either has actual super-powers or a gimmick (a suit, the bow thing, whatever). All Black Widow can do is beat up thugs, fight other un-powered heroes (which means Hawkeye and nobody else), and betray people.

It's really hard to make "super spy" look impressive in a cape film.

To be fair, Fury was saying this in the context of reverse-engineering Tesseract weapons. He mistook an Infinity Stone for just standard tech. As we clearly see, the Chitauri are like... not even WW2 Earth level in weapons tech.

This is very true.

The most impressive thing she did was probably get under Loki's skin by manipulating his ego. The way most Marvel movies are set up doesn't leave a lot of room for that kind of deception though.
>>
>>82537161
She worked pretty well in The Winter Soldier due to the powersets being mostly limited to fairly mundane military tech and super strength, and the film's emphasis on characterization. Widow could benefit from sapping skills and sabotage equipment along with her.

Actually my main problem is that the Accords ended up being controlled and manipulated by Ross. That's what the Accords realy was about, giving the control of the Avengers to the US government while moving the responsibility and blame to the UN where no one can ever take responsibility. Ross is going to make the UN robberstamp everything.
