Spidey stole the show in the sense that they shoe-horned his cringeworthy in there for loads of screentime. I could do without the dorky lovable teenager character trope in a movie for the next 20 years, to be honest.

Probably will never happen, but I think Daredevil (probably the only one from Netflix) would fit nicely in the larger MCU. Could be a nice guest star in a Spidey film

And he helped the captives to escape so he and his team are in hiding now.
>>
>>82516746
I would be so happy if they squeezed in a Daredevil appearance in any MCU movie, especially if it was about the same size and quality of Spider-Man's one in Civil War.

I guess the reverse would also be pretty cool, but I don't know if Spidey could fit in all that grittyness, among other things.

Yeah but Cap doesn't have the resources and Iron Man doesn't have the freedom.

This actually makes the Defenders and SHIELD make more sense, since the world no longer has a "save everything" button, and they can justify sending the Secret Warriors instead of Iron Man from within the show, since they have the government characters.
>>
>>82517092

Fucking this.

People don't realize that shit. He even fucking abandoned Cap to chase down the falling Rhodes.

Also, was IMs flight damaged at that point? Can't he fly super sonic? How could he not catch up to Rhodey in free fall?

Also, blasting Falcon was just a dick move. It wasn't his fault. Vision. Fucked up and would have fucking killed falcon and hit warmachine anyway.

Ant-Man disabled his hand thrusters and SW fucked up his suit a heck of a lot.

Just came here to talk about how much better this film was than BvS. The film at its core had a lot of heart, something BvS severely lacked. Where BvS went for the rule of cool, Civil War went for heart.
The film also handled the large cast a lot better than AoU did.

Each character (the super-heroes and Zemo) that appeared on screen had their own mini-arcs, desires, goals and resolutions. The only two characters that could have been scrapped from the film were Spidey and Ant-man, but even then neither felt tangential (Peter's convo with Tony served as a great third-person insight into why Cap is what he is).

Also, Tom Holland was perfect Spidey and Melissa Tomei made my dick hard. With that said, I'm seeing it again on Saturday to form a better opinion on it. As of right now, it's a 7/10 (which is generally the highest I give comic book films).

Honestly, it was heart and character that BvS was missing. This is what I mean when I say that Civil War had heart at its core. You could feel and identify with the character's emotions and why they did what they did. The trailer with the "He's my friend" and "So was I" didn't prepare for the amount of heart in the film.

Bottom line, I don't think Sony cares. The entire reason they were thinking of rebooting a third time and even worked this deal out is they want money and know the property of Spider-man is worth more than the amount they'd get from selling it back.

If ASM2 did amazing in the box office but was still massively panned, they probably wouldn't have cared.

>Discussion question, what did this film do right, that Batman V Superman did wrong? How did it manage to be so tight and contained, and still have so many characters?
CW made sure to explain why every single character do what they do. Even if that was the only thing they say on screen, it was vital that this point is made. There was so many characters that it is important to leave no room for ambiguity. So even if you don't agree with a character, you know why things happen the way they do. This applies even for Crossbones.
>>
>>82517917
- The sequel hooks weren't forced garbage. Both BP and Spidey were interesting, likable, dynamic characters. Not glorified commercials like Wonder Woman or JL email attachments.

- The core conflict between the leads isn't solved by a single word nor do they team up to fight a generic bad guy afterwards.

- The film respects the comics, while still adapting and changing when necessary. But generally speaking the characters are done well and good adaptations.

- The film talks about powerful beings and what affect they have on the world and actually DISCUSSES both side, shows the effects, etc. BvS just asks the question "what if a god came to Earth" but doesn't do anything interesting with it.

>Actually, the deal in place is Marvel gets 100% boxoffice returns, Sony gets 100% merchandise, which is actually pretty lucrative considering Spidey toys are already top sellers.

It's actually the reverse, Sony had all movie rights but no merchandise rights

It's why Marvel had leverage against them, Sony had to assume all risk for making movies and got nothing but the box office money in return, it's why ASM2 not hitting projections hurt them.

Now Marvel will make the movies and Sony will publish. Sony gets movie money with far reduced risk, Marvel get to control Spidey and make him in their image and align merchandise to match it.

This is one thing I wish was handled better.

I mean Peggy was literally buried a few hours, a day at most, before and they're already kissing?

Like I loved your aunt for 70+ years, the last time I saw you, you were spying on me and lying about who you were, but you brought me these weapons and your last name is Carter tho so lets fuck.

I wish there was a smoother progression to this, if at all. I personally can't stand Sharon - compared to the other girls, she's very bland and hamfisted into the story.

The movie could have done without majority of her scenes.

The characters had heart, especially with scenes with Iron-man vs Cap or with Cap and Bucky. Black Panther was a better outside party than Wonder Woman because he tied narratively into the main plot unlike WW. It wasn't trying to be "mature". It realised that it was a comic book film. It gave itself time to breathe and time for characters to be characters. Scenes like Vision cooking for Wanda were missing in BvS.

Throughout the whole MCU, Tony Stark is more Issues-man than Iron-man, and the death of his parents was probably the start of all his issues. So him laying it all on Bucky is an outlet for all three the ISSUES inside him.

Both sides are the good guys, and the fact that they still all want to be friends but are driven apart by a differing opinion not about what's morally right, but about what will have the best outcome, adds a sad twist to it. In BvS, Batman was arguably evil. He killed and branded tons of people and wanted to kill Superman not because of anything Superman did, but because of what Superman might do in the future, even though Supes has done nothing but good.

>t wasn't trying to be "mature". It realised that it was a comic book film.
This is my biggest gripe. If you set out to try and be mature, you've already failed.

It's not something you try, you just go and do without needing neons and slaps on your back.

Being mature also includes realizing that levity has its place and value and that it's okay to be childish and embrace your inner child whenever you can, so long as you can also be mature when the situation demands it.

It's the same thing between Avatar:TLA and Korra. TLA is infinitely more mature because it allows itself to be what the situation requires.

Guardians is probably the MCU's most kid-friendly movie, and it's one of the most mature as well. It features very dark themes like cancer and loss and being an outcast, as well as some complex themes like the value of humanity and honesty and a sense of ridiculousness whenever everything is turning to shit.

BvS seems to insist or imply that you can't be an Adult without suppressing your inner child, which in turn makes it seem adolescent, which is the time in your life where it's natural to want to distance yourself from being a kid, since you have something to prove to everyone around you, but only until you're comfortable enough to dial it back down and reach a middle ground.

That's not to say you can't go too far in the other direction. You can, and it's been done, but at worst it comes off as childish, which is more tolerable than juvenile. Everyone prefers kids to teenagers.

>Does he have a Super Soldier Serum in the MCU?
Zola experimented on him during 1st Avenger, possibly with a version of the Super Soldier that was left behind, followed by Zola getting him again later when the Russians find him (we see Zola briefly when they wake him up after defrost in TWS), and the added robot arm further adds he was experimented on/enhanced elsewhere.

>I have, but not in a while. Couldn't quite remember if he fixed his medical issue or just improved his reactor or what.
The implication I think, was that Tony refused to get his heart fixed because he had always felt the shards of his own bomb was his penance. And that he final decided to move on from that near death experience by getting the shards cut out.
The only reason most people don't remember it is because it was an extended sequence to please China, and what we actually saw in the West is very short.

I doubt it. He flirted with her on Black Widow's suggestion, thought there might be something but then it turned out she was a secret agent who lied about everything she just told him, especially during a time when he was extremely frustrated about how everyone was lying to him from him (and Widow might've known she was an agent too). Next time they et he was pretty upset at her with his "neighbor" line and even if she's a good person overall I doubt he feels comfortable around her for that reason. Also he wasn't there to see her stand up for him in the command center or risk her life protecting the SHIELD technician, and I don't think any of his friends there to tell him. I mean it's possible Cap hung out with her on Widow's advice and smoothed things over but that's the kind of thing the audience should have been seeing up-front in order to develop things better.

He's the best phase 3 director besides Coogler, but his style is closer to Gunn. Branagh was good and his movie wasn't that great, but it was when Marvel was still honing in on how to approach these.

I'm confident he's gonna make a great Hulk and Thor. I recommend both Boy and What We Do in the Shadows.

Alright /co/ I have some friends who criticized this movie and said it was worse than BvS. They are inherently biased to DC but for the sake of argument I want to know what some other parties think.

This was their thesis

The movie would have no conflict if bucky had either been detained or given himself up to begin with since he ends up "detaining" himself by the end of the movie anyway, knowing he is a threat. Without bucky cap would have signed the accords and no civil war would have ever needed to happen. They cite specifically when Tony says bucky will be guarded carefully and that he didn't need to worry.

This is their comparison to BvS

If Lex Luthor was taken out of the movie, the conflict between Batman and Superman would have still occurred because there was stronger motivations outside of Lex's keikaku; mainly Batman wanting vengeance.

My argument was that cap and Tony each have a stake in the accords and their ideologies clash enough for it to not be "muh Bucky" but they think because Bucky was so pivotal, had he been removed absolutely or had Bucky not have been triggered by Zemo, everything would have been fine.

So tell me, if Bucky had done what they said would this entire's movie be moot?
>>
The one thing I didn't like in the movie is how Spidey is connected to the story. They could have made some changes to tie him better to the situation.

>Tony goes to his appartment at the begining of the movie, instead of the MIT scene
>Wants to recruit him as an Avenger et help the kid
>They talk about Peter's motivation, muh Uncle Ben, Tony talks about his parents, they bond and we get introduced to their death that way
>Tony calls him later when he needs more people

I mean, that would have been a better way to remind people that Tony have massive dead parents issues. The MIT scene is weird.

Also, Spidey should have left Tony after the airport scene on his own, deciding that he doesn't want to be a part of his little war. Add a small dialogue where they disagree, but leave in good terms.

Screencap this:

No matter what his contribution for the movie is, or the circumstances that make Spidey seek his help, Tony's first words in the movie will be "How your Aunt?"
>>
>>82518594

Also rewatching Winter Soldier made this especially clear, when he meets Zola, Zola's entire diatribe is about how HYDRA believes humanity needs to be ruled and controlled, and how it's fostered a world full of chaos so that people will willingly submit themselves to the control of others despite their instincts wanting freedom.

There's no situation where Steve isn't disturbed by the Accords. Even when he was going to sign them before finding out Wanda, he was only doing it because he believed Tony.

It was? I thought the point he was making was that HYDRA had assassins all around including Bucky, and the only one he was actually tied to was the Starks.
>>
>>82518657
What kind of question is this? Bucky is central to the plot, I don't see what asking what would happen if he was removed accomplishes.

Steve and the others would probably go rogue and fight the bad guys globally and probably would fight Iron Man whenever they crossed at the next conflict.

Also when I bring up the whole "Martha" thing and retort with, had Superman's mother not shared the same name as Batman's, Superman would have been killed.

But their response was that Batman realized Superman was on some level human and that the name really didn't matter as long as he got Batman to realize that. Which I find total bullshit because Batman had not shown an ounce of sympathy towards Superman throughout that entire movie to maybe foreshadow that.

Actually yes, since Cap is all for fighting the good fight regardless of what others think. As long as you do the right thing and you know it's right that's all that matters. While Stank wanted to add bureaucratic red tape to keep the heroes in check, making things look safe when they actually aren't. Granted Stank wanted this to show responsibility for the people and get support from the government trying to unify with the l;aw more. Cap however knows power corrupts and government organizations can be infiltrated used and corrupted aka Hydra. The Avengers always had to be there own thing other wise there just glorified soldiers for the UN always trying to look good and shift the blame when they didn't act.

Really old cultural reference.
Robinson Crusoe in the book, obtained a servant after rescuing him from cannibals , and he named his servant Friday.

"Man Friday" and "Girl Friday" are meant to reference a dependable peson you can count on to help you out.

(Friday was a character created back when slavery was being morally justified. And in the book the character was meant to show how the White Man can make a savage civilised by enslaving him.)

Bucky would've died if he tried to hand himself in before Cap got to him
they had "shoot on sight" orders
besides, even if they took him in alive, Zemo would've had access to him, and I imagine breaking into a Berlin police station is a lot easier than a UN-sanctioned bunker

Also, Bucky was only a catalyst for the fight, the conflict of the Accords still would've been there and it still would've pushed Cap and Tony apart, just less violently and a lot more slowly

I for some strange reason think that Winter Soldier was a better movie, call me a faggot or whatever but Civil War was literally what I expected, both ups and downs so I came out pleased but not surprised.
I guess Winter Soldier was so much above my expectations that I still am amazed by it.

Civil War did have hype moments, but it had exactly what sort of makes me mad about current state of Iron Man in cinematic universe, and that's a small complaint but...he kicks zero ass and is never given a bone.

I mean, each film his power level consistently goes down and he becomes shittier and shittier, and even in moments when you think that he is about to shine at least a bit, he gets his ass handed to him in a few seconds.
I understand that a lot of that is needed for dramatic tension and all that but I came out feeling like Cap' was a fucking asshole and Tony didn't deserve any of that especially since there was not a single scene that at least showed him being a bit physically dominant with his suit.
I mean damn, he is literally in top 3 smartest humans alive, his suit should be so good that aliens are surprised with it's tech, yet everyone fucks his shit up in cinematic universe.

He has a powerful suit but everyone knows that so they all try to take out parts of it to dampen his effectiveness

His hair also doesn't look as nice this time around. Maybe it's because of the length, but in Winter Soldier his hair managed to be long and flowing while also kinda fluffy and full at the same time. Now it's just flat and greasy looking. I heard the last movie he used hair extensions in addition to his real hair, this time though it seems to be completely his own.

Again I understand that this is a stupid complaint but two greatest "fighters" should not be on par with Iron Man's suit, there certainly should not be sequences where Winter Soldier gets to punch his leg and instantly repulsor is broken in it. Plus said scene lasted a second before Cap busted his ass.

Let me explain what I mean, did you see Spiderman? That kid has been a hero for only 6 months, he fucking kicked the living shit out of everything as much as a kid with that little experience could. This version of Spiderman with 4 years of experience will be able to easily take on both Cap and Bucky especially considering how much sheer strength, agility, reaction and smarts he displayed just now, I mean this is Spiderman done justice because Spidey if he wants to is a horrifying A-listed powerhouse.
But the thing is that Tony is above that, Tony has suits that can fight Hulk, Thor, he has special suits that can dish out energies enough to destroy starships if needed. This Stark seems plot-limited and shortsighted for the purpose of making everyone but Tony look cool and it's consistently that way since Iron Man 1 where he was casually getting bombed with zero dents on his armor.

I am not ranting about the movie, just how I feel about Iron Man in cinematic universe.
>>
>>82519517
That doesn't change the fact that those people died at Bucky's hands. Howard was Cap's friend too.
If you honestly think that Cap wasn't conflicted at all at the end, you're blind. He dropped the shield because he knows he doesn't deserve it anymore.
>>
>>82519460
>Of course Cap is gonna win, it's a Cap film
Sure, but Tony loses even in his film with almost slapstick tier shit like truck breaking his armor apart in Iron Man 3.
>>
>>82519512

Ross was keeping up a pretty decent illusion of being completely reasonable right until he told Tony to fuck off regarding the evidence that proved Bucky innocent.
>>
>>82519556
That was because those suits were shit - that's the plot of the film.

>>82519536

>>
>>82519536

>>
>>82519581
Iron Man 2 was where it started and he was getting ass kicked a lot more than in IM1, which was not bad (it's just that movie was shit) because heroes should be beatable and in Avengers he was pretty great.
But in Age of Ultron for example Captain was somehow laughably fighting on par with Ultron in a more effective fashion than Iron Man was before. I mean Cap' was kicking the living shit out of potentially planet buster villain in that scene.
I don't know what I am complaining about, I just want Tony to feel good and for him to kick ass the same way Steve gets to kick ass, as in everyone can see that he clearly has the advantage and you should not fuck with him.

No, he dropped the shield because he knows the shield doesn't belong to him, and Tony does have claim. And he would only want the shield back if Tony offered it to personally. Even Black Widow mentioned earlier that the shield is government property.

There was something off camera that's why Falcon elbowed him like "nigga that's the chick you wanna fug" and Cap "oh what the fuck" and Sharon looks at him explaining why she never tells people about being related to her, so that implies a lot of interactions between the characters before hand.
And of course after the kiss, something along the words that kind of late implies they were dating, they both like each other and Steve never made a move until that point.
Nigga that shit is subtle but it's there
