i THINK i understand what you mean..
Just let the context be implied. and if it's not real life, then make it allegories. people will get it. anyone familiar with lincoln will understand why the tall-hatted copper emperor was assassinated without you having to explai their version of the civil war

Be very careful about doing a "ripped from the headlines" story. It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to do one and not have it almost immediately feel dated.

If I could change anything, I would draw less visual noise. The little marks all over the place are too much. Less is more, I'd say.

I have no experience with white-out, but I guess it works and doesn't show in the scan (after some modifications). It's important to be sure the pencils are ''correct'' and ready before inking. I know your pain when you realize, usually mid-inking, that the picture doesn't really work.

Anyway, that's why I'm in love with digital drawing at the moment. I drew my own hand real quick to show how it ''should'' look like more or less. Obviously I'm not perfect either, but I tried.

No one is perfect. People cope with their problems in different ways. No one is going to have an epiphany and suddenly be all better (that's not how it works IRL). Recovering bit by bit and growing with their friends along the way is WAY more compelling than "hurrdurr I psycho now im not".

Also, develop them beyond their mental issues holy shit. No one's going to care about them if they're just one note incarnations of your problems.

So, what are you guys's reasons for wanting to make a webcomic?

I have a lot of stories I want to tell. And I want to be good enough to have enough readers that I can visibly throw the fandoms into turmoil with all the twists and turns I've got cooking.

I won't lie. I really want a slice of the glory pie too. I know that it'll never be the case, but in my heart I like to believe in all my delusions of grandeur that I'm a good-enough writer with interesting takes on tropes that even a total social autist like me could get legions of adoring fans. God, I want to make people feel things so bad.

Now if only I would get off my ass and learn how to draw. Unfortunately said ideas REALLY need me to be able to convey subtle emotion.
>>
>>82337539
I want to draw pretty pictures.
I also wish someone would draw smut fanart of my stuff.
>>
>>82337539
I think a lot of us in that share those sentiments. You can look at some of the fan bases around /co/ like RWBY or SU however you want, but you have to admire the creators of those series for being able to create something to rally enough of a crowd to keep generals going, discussing things from lore to predicting what's going to happen next to waifu/shipping shit.
I hope I can create something like that as well. I want to jump in anonymously and speculate with the readers for fun, or drop little hints that will get readers wondering what the fuck is going to happen.

At the end of the day though this is all for my amusement. I've been drawing comics since I was really young with just some printer paper and a mechanical pencil. So many good memories of rushing home from school so I could grab my drawing materials and sit down at the coffee table to some Cartoon Network/Toonami just to draw silly little comics for hours.
I just do it because it reminds me of some of the best times of my life.
>>
>>82337539
I figured that if nobody else was going to write the comic that I would want to read, I'd do it.

Also writing is the only skill I've ever spent developing for the entirety of my worthless life so if I can make a living doing that, I'll have purpose. It's worth a shot, at least.
>>
>>82337813

Well fuck, Anon. You've got more experience going for you than most of us.

I like to write/draw webcomics because I just love to come up with ideas, settings, situations, characters, and plots. I'm always thinking on something new to try.

So far I've drawn about 5 or 6 webcomics, though I'm currently focusing on just two of them (three, technically, but these two are being weekly updated).

I don't deny I would like to do more with my stuff, but right Now I'm quite happy just knowing that people enjoy what I draw and write.

I read too much manga. All my comic ideas are weeb ideas where the characters have Japanese names and take place in Japan because they deconstruct common shounen and shoujo tropes.

Is there any hope for me, /co/?
>>
>>82338274
I remember back when I used to do that when I was younger.
As always, first step is admitting it, second step is to fix it. You know it's no good for you, so you could just like... not do that as opposed to doing it.

>>82338236
That kinda sounds like me.
My comic was originally a game I was working on in Unity. I got really far in prototyping and was having fun, but making a game is very slow and time consuming with barely any reward apart from "Oh hey I made this object interact with this button" and being so amazed by it that you spend the better half of the day playing with it rather than making progress.

So I just quit and turned my idea into a comic.

>wanting to make a webcomic.
Man, it seemed like a good idea when I was 18. Seven years ago. Fucking Christ, I've been friends with my artist for seven years this August. Time fucking flies.

I guess I want to create because there is so much shit. So much inferior quality items out there. Because there is no barrier to entry. Because there is no gate with which to keep. And while these things can be awful, they can also be good. And I want to put out stuff that people can look at and see it as being of moderate consumable quality.

Honestly, I'd be better off going back to writing short stories and dating sims. But my project gets me excited, mostly because I'm able to do stuff with it that I wish other people would've done with their stuff.

So maybe I'm creating because I'm so easily disappointed with the lack of things I'd want to see. Or that I would have wanted to see when I was really into reading webcomics proper.

It is a curious place to be.

If that is a comic about cooking, I'm in. That's a fun little sub-genre that can be such a treat to look at.

>>82338274
Take a step back and question why you need it that way; or over-expose yourself to it and get burnt out; then what you've got left are the bare bones. I've been there with things before, you can get away from it. Though if you do a completely played straight story in Japan done by a westerner; more power to you.

I'd love to see a western directed style of Japanese Horror that utilizes the best of both worlds for the sake of causing discomfort and dread; rather than the usual dumbed down stuff.

I'd hardly to call it experience.

I don't really know what I could share that you or anyone in the thread could take something away from.
I was never taught how to draw or how to write, nor did I do any of it as a job. I was just influenced by a lot of things. Comics, cartoons, movies, anime, games. Everything gave me ideas that excited me, and I wanted to express them, so I just turned those ideas into comics, which ended up being a lot of fun for me. I shared them with my friends and they all enjoyed them but that was it. I didn't have a scanner or a camera so it's not like I could upload them to some site for others to read. It was purely for my own amusement.
It was exciting, coming up with ideas and plot twists that surprised me and made me eager to put them on paper. Then eventually I had a full comic that I was very proud of since I made it. So i'd just keep reading it over and over, always amazed because it was something I created.

Sorry for the shitty image.
I have a box full of most of my old comics from around age 10 to 16 or whenever I stopped drawing for a long period of time. I made a lot of comics before age 10 too but lost them all.
Looking through it this is all just some crazy/edgy/autistic DBZ inspired "*teleports behind u*" shit, but it was a lot of fun to do and brought me a lot of enjoyment.
I'm debating printing a label titled "Autism Goldmine" to slap on the box.

This is why I do it though. I do it because it's something I enjoy doing. Everyone has something that they love doing and brings them lots of joy, so they just keep doing it. Even if I only have a one person audience i'll continue to do it, and I always have at least one person in my audience because I make my comics for me first and foremost.
This is why I'm in these threads. I enjoy seeing others who share the same passion as me and encouraging them in any way I can.
Do what you love.

Sorry for the wall of text.

Although I would like to create something more meaningful one day - a comic with engaging story, impressive art, and so on - right now the comic I'm working on is serving as practise. It's helping me get used to making comics, working to a regular deadline, and also steadily learn new things artistically. Because of that, I don't care too much about THIS comic getting views, so long as it does its purpose of getting me into the routine of practise.

However, when I do get around to a 'proper' comic I'll probably aim for the same thing you said about throwing your fandom into turmoil.
I used to write fanfics years ago and I fucking LOVED when readers were shocked by twists or couldn't wait til the next chapter and so on. It was great to think that something I'd created could have that effect on people. I'd like to create a webcomic one day that people get similarly invested in.

I don't care so much about fame or fortune. Dont get me wrong, it'd be nice to have a following and to earn money from my work, but I never expect to garner the legions of adoring/paying fans to the point where I can live off the comic earnings alone.

At the end of the day, it's a hobby that I enjoy and keeps me occupied enough to forget that I don't have a girlfriend

I find most tired monsters get a breath of fresh air if you bring them back to their roots.
I mean, werewolves being witches wearing magic belts rather than being a curse related to the phases of the moon, vampires that grow fat and bloated with blood in their graves while causing disease and death around them rather than Anne Rice-style bad boys, ghosts that, uh, okay ghosts actually get pretty close to vampires when you go back a bit but you get the point.

In a character relatable primarily for their personal problems, "has friends" is an immediate relatability killer.

People can react to you without you having any friends.

They don't need to be a social butterfly. Having one or two friends they learn to open up to and rely on makes it more compelling.

If you just make them be like "NO. NO FRIENDS EVER.", THAT'LL kill the relatability unless you only wanna resonate with emo teenagers.

and their relatability dies when they make them because the method they use isn't re-creatable.
if it's supposed to be a personal story, and it's written by an author with no friends for people with no friends, giving them friends only works when the author makes friends and is writing from experience, and from that point on the relationship between the author and the reader is fucked.

is crab-bucketing a good idea? no, but if you're one of the crabs out of the bucket don't expect those still trapped inside to relate to you when you got lucky in escaping.

Does anyone just look at webcomics as a whole and just feel underwhelmed sometimes?

Don't get me wrong, I love making my comic, but like... 1 page a week is just such an underwhelming amount of content and information to feed to your audience every week.
I just feel like it's severely underwhelming sometimes and i'm kidding myself thinking i'm keeping anyone entertained with a couple frame page week-by-week.

I just wish I could produce more content or present it in a way that there was more for the readers every week.

Any thoughts or input on the matter?
>>
>>82349063
Who says people are reading 1 strip a week though?
I can't stand reading story-based comics a page a week. If I discover one I like, I usually a) go back to page 1 and read everything so far, and b) bookmark the site and come back in several months, when there's a huge chunk of stuff to read at once.
>>
>>82349063

I dream of someday being able to release a 20-page chapter per week a la Shonen Jump.

Black and white with screen tone and only the occasional color page. Coloring takes a long time. I wouldn't bother unless it's vital.

Well, first off, you don't have to do one page a week. That's something you do if you have a bit of a perfectionist streak and want every page to be its absolute best.

Nobody's saying you have to make every page some great work of art if it lets you tell the story better as a result.

But on the other hand, it's not like you'll ever be able to make pages faster than people can read them. I'm updating weekly myself at the moment, and while I'd like to eventually get up to two or three pages a week, for now I'm fine with this pace because it lets me make every page a piece of art that I won't worry about having thousands of people look at over the years. My comic definitely is designed for the archive binge read, rather than the "check it once a week to see what's happened".

>dungeon delver
Honestly, I feel like once you're using the term "dungeon", you might as well go all the way and call it dungeon crawling.

Like, any universe where DnD adventurer is a viable profession, I'd expect it to be a little RPG-ish.

Also, doesn't this town have a sewer maintenance service? You'd think she would go to those guys first if she wanted to go into the sewers.
>>
>>82350271
"Dungeon delver" is alliterative though. Alliteration is awesome.

What do you think of Tapastic? Is it a good place to put a webcomic?
>>
>>82352945
I hate it.

I hate it so much.

Every single aspect of the Tapastic interface is annoying to me. If a comic is exclusively on Tapastic I personally will not read it. Any other hosting site or style of reading a comic is superior. That scrolling shit is fucking terrible, I hate it so much. I'm fucking triggered just thinking about it. I'm serious. It's the worst.

>>
>>82353134
You can do that on your own site so easily, though. Making a website responsive is easier than ever now. There are multiple gimmicks for Wordpress that will do it.
>>
>>82352945

I have a comic on Tapas and in a regular site. I get tons of pageviews in Tapas. Their community is huge, I guess ppl is not so atracted to visit lonely websites anymore.
>>
>>82353292
My experience was the exact opposite. My regular website did and continues to do quite well while my Tapastic site was so anemic I just shut it down after a few months.

Making some very significant progress on the building I'll be using in the intro sequence of those animations I'm working on. It's still not even close to being finished but at least it's shaping up more now. I'm kind of nervous about how I'm going to do lighting and shadows with this many complex shapes though.
>>
>>82352945
It's ok. I don't mind the scrolling. And it's nice that the page isn't really endless, it cuts off after the page or chapter, has the comment section and then the new page begins. Just an endless page with no breaks would probably feel too overwhelming, but the way they've set it up works fine for me.

Any art of your characters that you didn't make is fan art

it doesn't matter how you got it at the end of the day all that matters is you got a shit ton of fan art from artists from all over the world like me

sure, some of the fan art i got for demon juice or fates was by way of an art trade, but its still fan art, i draw fan art of there character and they draw fan art of my character

BUT a lot of the fan art ive gotten was just random fans of my webcomics and character just randomly making fan art of my characters

ive got over a hundred pieces of fan art from people all over the world: http://pastebin.com/ATmMvTRg

Ha ha, I'm on there at the bottom, with Square Eyed Stories.

- I only recently re-added a Project Wonderful Ad-box again after not having one on the site for a while.
- Square Eyed Stories is an archive site, and not currently updating regularly. SES is a group anthology and where I started off in small press comics. Each issue comes out in print first, then strips go on the website when the issues go out of print. I don't publicise it very much at the moment as all the OOP issues are online, and issues 22-25 are still available.
- Most of the hits on SES seem to come from SEO spam crawlers. I only check in on the WordPress dsahboard every so often to clear out spam comments.

right, you know how, aside from syndicated reruns of years-old programs, a given timeslot that regularly airs new programs will, in the off season (or whenever there isn't a new one) air a recent one that hasn't been re-aired yet? like if you're watching fox sunday night and there's no new simpsons tonight, they're probably going to air one from earlier this season or last season. you understand how that's different from a normal rerun, right?

reminds me of this one comic that this guy wanted me to be the artist of
It was like your thing but actually just world war two (with furries)
one of the main characters was like a falcon called Evan Squarks, a deserted RAF pilot, who winds up working as a bar tender in a shitty isle off the coast of greece

Never got around to doing it because A) I was busy with my own thing and B) I wasn't fully on board about the concept. Too many conflicting ideas going on - portals to the human world, magic nazi experiments, greek life things, flashbacks, some mystical subterranian treasure etc. No core theme or main plot was decided
Also humans. Humans in the comic would have just been really weird.

>>
>>82368030
Be more mindful about how you shade things.

I'm seeing these gradients everywhere and they don't look very good when you do them.

I'd say your contours are also very lackluster when it comes to the quantity of the things you draw.

But as for the ideas themselves, I like them.

Naming lands is the worst. I'm always terrified it'll sound generic and boring as fuck. I seriously considered having all the characters go "eh, you know, we never really came up with an overall name, but this town is called ______"

In the end I Google-translated the word for "land/country" in a slightly unusual language that's part of my heritage (Valsts, from Latvian) and altered it slightly to make it more pronounceable (Valstis), trying to avoid the generic European fantasy tropes by making it OBSCURE European fantasy tropes. Hopefully it ends up okay. I'm considering switching it back to Valsts because it sounds less lame to me. How does it read?
>>
>>82365990
>>
>>82368074
I usually look up different words associated with whatever the universe/character is about and combined them into something that sounds interesting. In my sci-fi works the universe is referred to as "Swayto-zen" as it's a phonetic version of "Pseudo" meaning fake and "Zen" meaning balance. This is used because the universe centers around two massive conflicting factions and the small group mediating between the two so balance is the base concept. I have some warriors based on animals and the elephantine one is known as "Chornish"and the donkey one is known as "Asikidus" both of these combine two scientific terms for the animal they're based on but combine to create something alien sounding. I also use straight up existing (albeit obscure) terms for things just as references. There's a dimension of polygons in my sci fi setting called the Kraggro as a reference to the aggro crag, and the alien deity of balance is named Anaglyph as a reference to red/blue 3D.

>>82368118
thanks for the advice. all of those characters have just been drawn in the past year or so as I'm still changing things up and learning since I'm pretty new to digital art as a whole. I'll try and be more considerate of how I'm shading things. I suppose I use gradients to give kind of an unearthly glow to the characters but I'll try out some other tactics next time.

>>82368212
Riiiiight ok I know you now. I once complimented your use of the word "schway" when you sent me that weird ask. I'm glad to see you like my work so much. I post way more art on here than my near derelict tumblr though.

Have you guys ever overslept into some extremely lucid dreams, and caught yourself at the end of them with an awareness "Oh I'm dreaming" and recognize how easy it would be to draw what you were looking at in your mind's eye at that moment? Like if only you could form such solid details by closing your eyes whenever, right?

I'm sure there's a way to train this skill. My desire to learn more about it comes from how much cleaning up of my art I have to do towards the middle and end.
>>

I pick a random word that's vaguely related to the topic, and translate it into latin and then mix it up.

>>
>>82368700
I had a dream last night where I was beating up the main character of my comic.
I don't think that counts.
>>
I guess what I'm asking with my previous post is:

Are any of you able to solidify images in your head at will? To the point where you can 'eye' them carefully for the detail you want?

If so, then how the fuck.
>>
At what point is the answer, "try not to think about it" allowed when trying to explain your story?

For example, if you tried breaking down how the force works in Star Wars, like on a science and physics level (maybe it was in later movies?), then you probably wouldn't get very far, but you don't really think about it, so it doesn't matter.

Where is the line drawn between bad writing and suspension of disbelief?
>>

Sounds reasonably good but I worry though that the names I come up with for the different species will be too simple and not work right.

Like naming one of the primate lands Prime or the Primelands, as it's the central hub for all the species of primate. (That sound like conundrum)

Depends a lot on tone.
And not just "its magical fun wizardland" tone, but how characters are. Ash Williams handles the "try not to think about it" factor well because he's the most educated person on the subjects of deadites and time travel, but fuck if he's a reliable narrator. He knows how shit doesn't work, but is more surprised by how it does.

What specifically are you shooting for? A lot of times there's no reason for anybody to know. Or the misinformation is just great enough that nobody cares to delve deeper.

The specific circumstance you're operating in could help illuminate what the workarounds are.

in the case of star wars, being derivative was the point. the idea was "hey, what if, a long time ago in space, they basically had magic? like, they still had technology, but there's magic too, and only a few people remaining can use it"
that's why it intentionally works on magic rules.
If magic is a novelty in your setting and the point of the story is that it's there when it's unexpected, you don't have to explain it. Otherwise though, you should.
>>
>>82368074
I forgot to. i'm still kicking myself for that. Though, like having a silent protagonist in a game, a nameless world means you can sort of project whatever you want onto it. Still, individual places in it have names. So it might be kinda like referring to the setting of star wars as 'palpatine's galaxy' because IT was never named.
>>82366959

those are cool-ass wizard robes, man. Just remember to think about the hat as a hat with bits trailing. because if it's just a hood it wouldn't stand up like that on its own. unless your name is candace flynn.
>>82375934
honestly interspecies tension bothers me in settings like that, especially when it's borrowed wholesale from real life, which it has no possible excuse for resembling.
basically any setting where you start the story and it acts as if reality just began for THEM just like it did for the viewer, and nothing has to have any kind of logical ontology.. that gets me right in the gizzards.
>>
>>82377610
Thanks! And it's a hat inside of a hood, so it can stand upright.
>>
>>82368947
To an audience it doesn't matter so much HOW it works, more that it works consistently.
>>
>>82368074
I mean, it's not like our universe has a name. we just call it 'the universe'
and our planet name still just means 'the land' in the sense of 'this is all there is, right guys? the rest is all sky'
unless your setting exists as a sovereign entity like a kingdom, it really doesn't need a name. and if it does, then think about what it's named after. Though it was established retroactively, the kingdom of Hairaru derives from the goddess Hairia. Granted the translation kinda fucked that one up, but it still works. And that's a kingdom.. and kind of a 'land' in addition to that. sorta how england/britain can mean a few things, and THOSE words in turn have derivation.

Welp, been out of these threads for a while. I will do some colours today for some thing I owe, and then start with a new project (pic related)

I'm gonna join the fanart circlejerking, so if my art is good enough for ya, feel free to request what you want.
Only people I won't do stuff for are Cold Fusion, Melee, Dewd and Stones, because I either did something for them recently or because I'm doing something for them ATM.

Wing-head girl's nose is too high up in the profile shot. It's on a level with her eyes in profile and lower in the other mugshots.

Also, the wings are just above her ears in profile and higher up in the other faces.

It might help to draw some guidelines in, to keep character's features consistent in turnarounds.

I've been thinking about this critique more and I don't think I really understand. I was trying to think of how to improve these things but this post is just too vague. I don't know what makes my contours "lackluster" or what I should do differently with the gradients. If you (or someone that maybe understands what they're talking about) could explain further and be more specific I'd probably be able to actually listen to it.
>>
>>82368074
I don't know.
I'm not sure whether it would just come across as pretentious to up the use of "Terra" or "Gaia" or whatever, I'm not creative enough to come up with my own word (and imbibe it with the necessary "weight" to make it not ridiculous.) and I'm not sure if calling it "Earth" when it's a very different realm is sane.

First attempt of a cover for this new project. I will try to re.do this exact cover but fully digital next time.
I'm trying to go for an old Scooby-Doo vibe with colours, so I will run a few more tests with character clothing and stuff.

Seconded, I try to do precisely that in my stories as well (like the wolf belt); I find it gives popular monster an oddly fresh take despite actually being an older one.

>>82349063
Be economic in your writing so that you make each update worth the wait; at least that's what I try to do for mine. I have been told that people prefer to wait a couple of weeks for my comic to update before reading, but the point is that EVERY SINGLE PAGE should try to tell a short story in it of itself, it should have a point that moves the story forward.

>>82360507
These are always bloody adorable

>>82350082
It looks real good so far! D&D-esque fantasy isn't my thing, but with with that art and setting (flying wales and all), there'll definitely be an audience for it. I do feel a hatching is a bit hard on the eye in .png format

>>82352945
It's probably good for many, but not for me. The way I draw and pace my pages makes the "scroll" format detrimental to the narration. Other comics like The Sisters work nicely, and I guess Tapa is intended to be more mobile-friendly, which is definitely a big plus for some, but mine doesn't benefit from it's format.

>>82368074
Don't ask me, my names are horrible

>>82368947
It's not so much "try not to think about it" but more about being consistent throughout the story. If your setting has magic, you can go on to explain how it draws energy from the life-force of the earth and yadda yadda... OR you make establish the character's powers and weaknesses fairly early on so that you don't get asspulls later in the story or situations where the reader is like "why don't they just X?"

>>82379197
Oh man, thanks a LOT for that.
Perhaps your writer's already told you but your comic has my favorite character design from these threads. Really The Sisters as a whole is a top-quality webcomic, definitely in my top 3 of comics here. It would be great to see some more of the non-Sisters-related work posted here
>>
>>82349966
Yeah dude you might wanna take it easy on those screen tones. Thing is they don't look bad by any means but they're kind of over-taking the look of some of your pages here. If you're going to use this much screen tone it might even work out for you to keep it as traditional.
>>82350121
Like here. Your rain is totally crapping up in that top right corner because it's overlapping all of those tones.

Other than that, all your linework is pristine. It would do you some good to let some of that linework do the talking.

100% agree with this. It's tough for me, because I also try to write my comics to be read one full issue at a time, so balancing the webcomic mentality of "every page matters" with the traditional print comic reading style is tough. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at it. At least, no one's complained about it yet.

I'm wondering, what kind of outfits work for both guys and girls? I'm brainstorming a gender bender type story, and the guy starts off with clothes that work for both sexes, and then slowly starts wearing sexier outfits for his new girl form.

I'd check out clothing and outfits from places like H&M. Also, there's always the classic hoodie/jeans combo. Sweats too, probably.

>>
>>82382088
I'm in a similar position, though in my case I update with "a complete strip", whether that's one, two, four, or half a page. I'm not keen on the idea of splitting a two page gag across two weeks, especially if the first page is just set up. My schedule has long since changed from weekly to sporadic (but this is what RSS feeds are for).
I work towards having a printed comic out by the end of the year, rather than one page per week, so for me the collected edition is the end goal rather than weekly updates. It also influences the size and format of the pages.

That said, I'm gearing up towards having a run of self-contained single pages that tell an ongoing (short) story.

>>82360282
I suppose I should draw up some kind of official/current model sheet, but that's kind of on the back burner. Maybe if/when I start a story with a fixed setting and Lore, rather than the current nondescript/generic MMO/RPG gag framework.

>>82352945
I've set up (but haven't started to use) a Tapastic account, with the intention of re-running strips there. I'm thinking the Tapas edition would be Safe For Work, with edited language, while the collected editions would be unexpurgated (which is what I'm currently doing with the free-to-read web strips vs the pay-for print and digital collections).
Would I be likely to see an increase in traffic from Tapas to my main site, or are people more inclined to stay on Tapas?

Originally, my comic was a vehicle to improve with; I try to take gradual steps to improve my art as well as my writing through it.

Years later, that's still a huge part of the reason I continue my comic that maybe at most 10 people read/have read, but I also just enjoy writing and telling the stories now. Once I got through the "lol random" phase of things, I found it really fun to sit and think about where a story is going. The only not-fun part is that it's taken years to get through plots that I originally planned to last maybe a single year. But then, better to polish something up than to rush it out the door, I suppose.

Never did much care for the popularity thing. It'd feel great if I suddenly gained traction, but admittedly I've always been a bit of coward when it comes to scrutiny. I know, that's a VERY BAD THING. It's just how I am, unfortunately. I've not gotten any immense criticism from the people who do read my work (at least once they get past the cringey old stuff), but it never did much to settle my nerves. As such, I rarely even advertise outside of just posting on dA/Tumblr/Twitter.

I sometimes wonder if the obscurity makes having my own site a bit of a bad idea. But, I guess I don't mind too much. $11 a month is no enormous expense (at least not currently). Besides, it's nice to have my own little corner of the internet to call my own.

Now my comic's kinda became a thing I do because it's just been something I've done for years now. I still find myself improving, I still enjoy writing it, and I still enjoy drawing it, and each of the few comments I get almost always warms my heart. My only quandary now is, when do I "stop" to move onto another project? Or rather, when do I take a break from one thing to work on another? But, that's a topic I'll worry about rather far later in the future. I have stories with my current comic to tell first.

So sorry for the brain vomit
>>
>>82337539
I want to get better at drawing, and eventually I'd like to work out an entire story. I've got so much planned in my head, but none of it will happen if I don't start at the beginning.

Best of luck! I've seen some french gag comics do that. I think your comic lends itself more easily to that since you can do a dungeon/tower run where each subsequent room leads to a new situation/joke

>>82337539
It's always interesting to read the answers to these questions
Personally I've always thought I was "good" at drawing. I LOVE to design mythological races/monsters but it felt like a waste not to do anything with them beyond 3/4th pose.

My comic was just a way to tell stories based on the things I like to draw the most: folklore creatures, historical weapons, and pretty dresses. It's a monster-of-the week format but after this arc I want to move onto something different, try a longer narrative for a change; the next arc will involve no supernatural elements besides the main character, so it'll be more my take on a more standard knight's tale about duty towards family and crown and ethical dilemmas that can come out from that.

How important is it to be consistent with stuff like your artist handle or your comic's name across sites when people go searching for you, if ever?

It seems like every time I come up with a good name for both myself as an artist and a name for my comic, i'll go to register at the sites I plan on using only to find out the names are already taken on some sites, leaving me to improvise and change the name a bit.

Any good workarounds for this situation? Should I just go back tot he drawing board and come up with different more obscure, less-likely to be taken names?

This is frustrating, i'm not creative enough at naming stuff.
>>
>>82384343
I'd say it's very important, doubly so for your comic's name.
