it has big ugly frames you cant move, the comic appears in the lower right corner of the screen
>>82257743
since the screen sticks out, wouldnt it have a whole new set of lines?
>>
Do your best.

Daddy loves you.
>>
>>82264617
yes, it would. those red lines are a garbled mess too, but then again it looked like he was trying to match the other guy's lines and got confused.

"freehanding" is fine, but it looks like he's using a line tool to get the straight lines, so it's not like it'll take extra effort here to set a vanishing point.
>>
>>82264969
well i think the idea was "look, if i draw lines going from all your lines, they don't line up. thus you must have made a mistake"
but i think each individual 'piece' has consistent lines. i'm not sure
i've seen people using things like perspective rulers, and theyre neat but... how can you possibly choose WHICH level of perspective to use?

If you could mind control your friends, what would you make them do, or at least what would you secretly want them to do?
My detective character learns a spell, but is very reluctant to use to his friends, since, well, it's really not ok, but that got me thinking what you guys would use it for? Doesn't matter if it's something weird or disgusting-- I'm not judging.

>since the screen sticks out, wouldnt it have a whole new set of lines?

Not if the surfaces are parallel.
If one surface was tilted back, the other vanishing point should be found further back on the same vertical "horizon line" (I'm sure there's a proper term for it, but I can't remember one atm)

>>82264969
The red lines weren't an attempt to fix the problem, only to make it more clear by extending the lines.

>>82265030
>but i think each individual 'piece' has consistent lines
They don't. Try looking at the individual vertical line in the grid on the screen. Try looking at the vertical lines on the bottom right wall and the lines on the middle right wall.

you guys need to listen up right now and study up on that perspective. especially that one dude

yeah i think everyone thinks about that. uhh basically just removing the annoyances in ways of thinking that people have, that i KNOW came from outside sources, so i'm only playing fair by changing them back. only difference is the societal brainwashing was slower.

ugh i will never be able to make sense of this. all my brain is doing is going 'but things AREN'T bending towards a point. they're parallel and perpendicular'

false, my ideas are great. here's one I've been toying with

A boy falls in love with a girl.

Unable to confess, he is gifted with by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.

But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

Well, nice to see The Sisters is a lot of people's second favorite comic. Or that at least people are enjoying it. It has been up, officially, for a year as of today. We've only missed one update, due to a tablet exploding; and tomorrow is an update day.

We've got 220 pages of core story done, plus some additional material we've tossed up in some places.

Feels good. Even if our first two issues were done back in 2014 and that really does show. We've had some solid stylistic advances and I'm happy with how the plot has gone.

Couple more weeks and this first big arc of the Sisters will be over with and we'll be moving on to a new story, set during the summer. More balanced character screen time, more of Beatrice's development arc (Jam gets hers for the third, and throughout in general), and things fall apart as quickly as they might get put back together.

>>82266476
Honestly finding the correct format is challenging, because there is a correct format for the field but a lot of people come into it with other experiences. I write a stage play format because my artist is all about framing and there's no point in me setting up frames if he's going to do them better. The novel format can be useful, I've worked with people who wanted it that way; but it can get tiring and very dense.

Greentexting isn't the worst, you're essentially just writing by bulletpoints.

>>82265138
I'd make them act on potential and live up to that by being the best them they could be; which is actually a very horrifying prospect because then I'd be grinding their personality and self-determination into the dust all for the sake of a more functional commodity. Of course that's one of our bad guy's overarching themes; but he won't be around for a while.

I'd force things to be better by my definition, and if that happened to hurt other people; they could either fall in line or be crushed beneath the wheels of history.

I am easily corrupted.
>>
>>82265138

I dont even put titles on my comics kek. I mean, they have names... but its in the album's title settings, not in the comic itself. Making up logos yourself sound pretty nice and creative unless you fuck it up. There are some webcomics where the logos/the style of it look out of place.

Check out Silent Hill designs, Dark Eldar/Chaos 40k designs, the Daelkyr from Eberron stuff (chuck some tech in it), Digimon in general has some horror stuff, the Fabricants of Sotha Sil, Terminator stuff. Phyrexians from different sets too. Guess it really depends on what you're trying to get out of your body horror machine monsters.

>>82268964
>force my will into others to destroy their personalities to bring out their potential.
>decent human being.
I mean, it isn't as base as preying on them but I'd argue that it is pretty terrible. Like as much as I hated Molly Carpenter in most of the Dresden Files, her ripping apart her friends brains to make them stop being junkies had a really horrific vibe to them that showed how evil the best intentions can be.
>>
>>82269553
i got like 3 suggestions like that
>>
>>82269567
It's not as if leaving them alone allows their personalities to shine, though. that's the trouble. the more manipulative you get (intentionally or not), the more you realize people are fucking sheepzombies. and you know you cant SAY anything about that because you start getting tinfoil hat polish for christmas

There really isn't supposed to be a rhyme or reason to how these abominations look. They're literally people driven insane and begin replacing body parts with random machines. That being said i guess I don't have to adhere to a specific theme.

>>82268863
?
>>
>>82269698
in that case, look up machines. machines of various types. the machines used to make cars, the ones used in weaving, the ones used to assemble other machines. the ones used to pump food and food products into different shapes in food product factories. imagine what kinda shit you'd probably want to have included in your mechanical body
>>
>>82269911
That's actually a really good idea.

Thanks
>>
>>82269698
Well, maybe look up psychology manuals for ways that people go nuts and design them around that.

Like, schizophrenics might replace parts of their brain to try and stop the voices, body dysmorphia is obvious, a guy afraid of bugs might replace his sweat glands with pesticide dispensers and have bug zappers dangling from him, Anorexic who's replaced their digestive system so they can't get fat, agoraphobic or social anxiety who's entombed in a faceless tank, a woman who was frustrated with her childlessness and has merged with a bunch of cloning tanks.

Kinda rambly, but I hope you get the idea.

I've started working as an editor for a comic inspired by Prequel and other MSPA-style adventures. I don't know where the artist intends to go with the story, but it's been good writing practice so far.

Yeah, he wasn't exactly subtle with the stylistic roots. I'd imagine the comic will diverge considerably as it goes along. There's a fine line between "inspiration" and "ripoff", and I'm gonna try to make sure we don't cross it.
>>
>>82273313
oh well kaz is a cool guy it's not like he'd complain. usually what i think of when i see things totally similar to other things is 'why arent there MORE like this?' meaning both why arent there more copycats and.. why didnt the thing being copied have more of itself.

The style's pretty close but Prequel's pretty much the same as any other MSPA fanadventure anyway, not very original in itself.

That said, the art's good. Good luck to both of you.

Yo, how you gents think about furshit characters mixed with humans?

I wanted to do this space opera thing with giant robots, but they are used just in ceremonial combat between championships so its on the "realistic" side of SF.
Its basically Dune x Five Star Stories, now in FSS, each mech comes with a chick co-pilot (like Cortana) bioengineered waifu that bonds with the pilot permanently.
In the story, human shaped robots are forbidden, and ppl use uplifted animals (yer basic anthros) as slave races like ancient Romans.
Originally the slaves were going to be just normal humans (like us) and the masters would be a future "super race" like Kahn from Star Trek

Like most of /co/, I don't mind some anthro stuff but wouldn't consider myself a furry or part of the scene, I was just wondering if having such characters would be good for getting fur readers or would it repell others instead.
Oh the style I'd want is something weeb/casual friendly, kemono, not too hardcore fur stuff.

giant robots only used for ceremonial purposes.. ha, i dig that. of course that implies a society with a LOT of time and resources to waste on that. being able to straight up genetically engineer animal-slaves sounds like it's consistent with that, but holy shit if youre going to have THAT tech level but also be realistic, shit, you're going to have to think a lot about what society would be like. it doesnt sound like a society that would have a straight up taboo on robots made in our own image
in any case, yeah slaverace animals make sense to me. the whole reason anthro shit was cool to begin with, outside of stupid lame silly cartoons, was because animals are all fantastic and athletic and do cool shit, so yeah.. theyd be great laborer slaves. except who the fuck needs laborers anymore if your tech level is THAT high?

I don't think there's anything wrong with using the same style and format. I'm not too familiar with Prequel, but I think similarity is kinda cool. Almost makes me feel like they're set in the same universe, and there's something cool about that. It all boils down to the story-- if the story's different and original enough, then it's all fine and good. Also it could help you two to tap into the Prequel fan base and get wider readership.
Have you been in contact with the Prequel author? Could be cool if you could cook up some kind of collaboration or something.

Anyway, I wish I had an editor or co-writer.. preferably the latter.
>>
>>82274574
yeah i've never heard of a comic team where one is merely the editor.. shit i'd be good at editing. i do it in here for free
>>
>>82274292
Yeah, I've thought about the tech levels, they do have machines, certainly, just not andro/gynoids cause social taboos, I liked the retro feudalism elements of Dune & Foundation, so this story takes place in the aftermath of a galactic empire long destroyed and a few dozen great houses constantly fight each, and instead of the Space Guild, there is a Posthuman entity that acts as a seemingly neutral referee in their conflicts and uphold some luddite rules from the past.

I can't draw at all, but I enjoy writing, so it's kind of a symbiosis deal going on. As for the collab thing, I've actually met Kaz in person before. I just started the editing thing like four days ago, so I'll probably try to write a few more updates out and see how things go before making any major decisions. I'll probably become more of a "co-writer" as time goes on.

ohhhhhh okay that makes sense then. in that case, at some point you're going to have to analyze the aspects of society that come from being the crumbled shambles of a previously huge empire, where the STUFF in it still works, but nobody knows HOW it works (in many ways we're always perpetually in some form of that. look at coding)

I remember last time there was a discussion about single page scrolling formatting and views. I was agreeing with you but I've never read your comic before until now. And I just opened it, read a bit, and closed it.

Isn't this format a little hard for you to gauge feedback if regardless of how much a person reads, they still register as 1 read? if it was split up, you could at least see where interest starts falling off.

I said this last thread that most people who start, go all the way to the end. And if people were all dropping like flies at one beat, you think I couldn't investigate that as well? Aside from something like LOSS, has there really ever been single pages that dealbroke an entire series? Don't you also wonder how we got feedback when comics were printed and bought solely as multiple-paged issues?

I've gotten into some weird conversations about format before, but this angle is the weirdest.

because as much as he sucks, his improvement over a few years can only be described as meteoric. Imagine your sister has a kid, you're patting him on the head one day, saying he's getting so BIG for a 4 year old.. Then two or three years later you come see him again and he's a hormonal teenager with a dusty moustache. You're not exactly going to let him vote or join in adult activities, but you're still fucking impressed he grew so fast. He's not at your level but hot damn he's improving faster than you did at that level.

The perspective seems much better, now.
Still a few issues; if the squares on the screen are supposed to be all the same size, they don't appear that way. Pic related is a useful technique for that purpose.

Second, the forward-backward perspective lines don't line up. It's most obvious with the panels to the sides of the door on the bottom, where we should be able to see the inside surface of either the left, right, or both panels, but can see neither.

the squares wont be in the final product I just put it there to personally remind myself to keep that part transparent since an animation will be shown on it. That is a really useful tip though, I'll keep it in mind.

As for that second critique I'm not really sure how to fix it all without starting from scratch again but I did try to fix the door as shown. Everything about the art seems so corner-cutting and low effort, especially since he stopped using colors. If he doesn't care enough about his own story to take time illustrating it, why should I care enough about it to read it?

yeah, youre right. i think what we need to really do is just give this kindof person a dismiss-able name. so whenever new artists show up to share their artwork with us and shitstirrer shows up just to bring them down, we can tell them not to think too much into it.

its definitely 2 different people doing it, but no more than that. this asshole isnt leaving these threads either, so something like
"oh thats just shitstain. he pops up in these threads to shit on talent because he hates his own work." would be great

or

"oh there is shit head! i didnt think he was going to post today, but, hey! look at that. right on que.

alright though. im over it. i just wanted to defend some artists in here, and some artists that are here just lurking that stopped posting because of people like this.

youre right. they are who they are

but if scribblehatch is lurking, i spent a few hours defending you. because you are good. because you are on your way to being great.
this is for you man
start going to cons
get a table set up
interact with your community and keep going forward

you have accomplished so much, you should seriously be proud of yourself.
actually, you've accomplished so much, that a person has actually created a picture telling others not to talk to you because they cant handle someone actually "gettin' it"

you ARE a comic artist. you do the grind and dont let these scrubs bring you down. they cant stop what you got.

I'm beginning to think only assholes get trips, quads and quints. No we're not creating evil trickster gods that we blame all our problems on.

We did this with Bones. "Don't reply to Bones ever" It got to the point where because it wasn't obvious who Bones was anymore, that anyone causing any dissent, was Bones. Are they trolling? Bones. Do I not like what they're saying? Bones. BONES TURNED ME INTO A NEWT.

Just be sensible. And you see that guy right there? >>82293382 You don't respond to him either. I don't care how juicy it looks. This is being sensible.

There's so much I disagree with you, and frankly, don't understand, but I'd still be interested to see your art to get a better sense where you're coming from with your harsh comments.

I've noticed that if you leave the hostile attitude, people aren't as hostile towards you. There are many good artists and writers here, who aren't in anyway involved with the not-so-nice happenings, just because they stay professional.

I've posted my stuff here for the past couple of days, and I haven't faced shit or praise. I've done my best to be one of you guys, be part of the community, leave comments and questions for others and overall be a decent human being. And that's how keep yourself out of trouble.

Anyway, if you don't want to post your comic, just share art, or writing.. something, anything. I think it's nice to actually see the art of the person I'm talking to.

Stop ranking artwork. If you're going to have a favorite comic poll, make sure you can have favorites. Plural. Otherwise you have this illusion of a 'best.'

Oh and not to mention the person who presented the poll, assumes someone voted for themselves. How can they know that?

it just happened to be my favorite. until i realized badjectives was in there. but that's still apples and oranges to the max. all my favorites in here are for different reasons. one has amazing offbeat humor, one has intense cuteness, one has incredibly realistic writing and believable characters, one has the best goddamn specialeffectsy action i've ever seen, one has the most beautiful backgrounds this side of ghibli.. cmon. it's literally not a contest

Been into them since my older brother introduced me to them a few years after The Fury of the Aquabats, but a little before Charge. I used to have the Aquacadet membership. Artist and I both think they're rad and really wish they got another season of their show.

So Chel ended up being one on the down low just because she was lacking greater characterization and we wanted to establish her "nerd" credentials early on; mostly by giving her our own love of a bunch of mormon ska dudes and Dark Heresy. Her eating disorder is a bit less blatant, but it is there too.

Not that guy, but basically, the silhouette of the black woman's forearm and elbow are pretty much exactly the same as the silhouette of the girl behind her would be. I spent a good long while staring before I figured out that the elbow piece wasn't the other half of the white girl's bra.

Anything that completely separates us by gender, aside from appearance, tends to be our shittiest qualities as a species.

You'll be fine writing characters genderblind.

Unless you include romance, and my advice is to not, unless the story is primarily about that.

>>
>>82307909

I think most uninteresting, actually.

Whenever I'd be watching breaking bad, and seeing one character acting purely as only their gender could, I immediately get bored.

well i'm not saying fucking singlenote stereotype, just.. yknow.. verisimilitude. irrational-ass women are funny. i want to see them get made fun of and knocked down several pegs. male characters with uniquely male problems get it all the time, and those are funny too.
but you cant make it everyone, because that is not just boring but inaccurate and kinda mean
>>
>>82308263
What I think is the most funny, are all the little stupid things we do as a species that we almost never bring up.

Seinfeld was super super popular for this very reason.

>>
>>82307983

>acting purely as only their gender could
>uniquely male problems

I'm really hard pressed to think of problems that are unique to a gender. Like most people think body image is just a woman problem, but men are affected too. Or women are irrational and emotional, but... look at Donald Trump.
>>
>>82308299
absofuckinglutely. the tough bit is bringing up more that nobody's run into the ground yet. at one point 'women be shoppin' WAS one of those, til people started talking about it.. and it just became a cliche.
and yet I still see new things being acknowledged every so often.. never in sitcoms anymore, but in webcomics (Sisters is full of that shit) and weirdly enough shows like Clarence

One of my favorite things about Seinfeld is how they were like "how are we gonna write Elaine?" after they added her and then had the revelation to just "write her like a man." I think Elaine is a really good example of a well-written female character, actually.
>>
>>82308635
though she still had a ton of fucking problems and a smug superior attitude, and the show generally acted like she could get away with more than men... but it was accurate, and funny, and very true to the time period too
and basically all the other women were all just blandly perfect. unless they were nutjobs.
basically, it's impossible to think about sex and not be fucked up, because sex comprises two fucking HALVES of people. that's too big to think about. there's no minorities, no genuine intrinsic issues, just.. the whole of our species.
>>
>>82308635
There are a few things only a girl would do, that Elaine has done.

This is my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-XgvHPt1cg

Oh yeah, I get that. That's just good ol sexism ("haha, it's funny when women hit men!")

Parks and Rec does a really good job with gender balance too - I think over half the main cast is actually women, but I never realized it. They do a good job of mixing up "gender roles" (best example I can think of is when Leslie started dating the security guy and showed up at his house drunk. In the past the punchline would've been "score!!" but instead it was just how silly Leslie was acting.)
>>
>>82309229
>("haha, it's funny when women hit men!")
No no no no no. Elaine is just taking "NOOOWAYYYYY GET OUUUUTT" to it's naturally exaggerated level.

I was not trying to say there's a double standard in place. In the bizarro jerry episode it's actually the reason she's ousted from the bizarro group. They see her gesture as actual physical violence.

My comic so far has a subtle variety in skin colors and ethnicity's, One of the main characters is black. But I would like to add more characters of color, just so there's a little more diversity. but every time I desighn a new character I don't invision them being anything but white. I don't want to make a Mexican, black,Middle eastern, etc. character just to add more color. But I don't really belive in changing how I think a character looks. Any pro tips?
>>
>>82312804
this sounds like ethnicity just for diversity's sake. the shittiest most pointless kind.
>>
>>82312804
does it take place in a place where mostly white people live? because.. then just keep making white people. not ALL of them, but don't feel bad about 'most'

but if it takes place in, say, a big city, then yeah you ought to go take a walk in the big city, and look at all the people and all the colors they come in. start drawing those people.

if it's a totally fictional setting you can't win, but you can at least show you put some thought into things. there are some rather unfortunate universal likelihoods what with the whole 'sunlight and dark skin and heavy amounts of plantlife go together, while heavy plantlife and advanced civilization kinda don't' thing. lookin at you earthsea.
>>
>>82312804
Just make them all white and blonde.

And see if people can differentiate who everyone is based on the way they act.
>>
>>82312822
Thank God, I can keep them as-is. I just don't want people to think I'm an ass for not having people of color.
>>
>>82312882
I'd think no one would have an issue finding out who's who, at least for my main characters.
>>
>>82313026
even using that term kind of automatically makes you an asshole.
>>
>>82312804
If your goal is more diversity the tip would be to get over your attachment to the character looks, but really, forcing diversity for the sake of it well past the character's conception is probably ill-advised.

On the subject, I have a character in my comic who's part of a race of former humans who were all enchanted generations back to look decidedly not-human. Without the enchantment he's a black dude, but he's very opposed to removing the enchantment because he was born with it sees it as part of his heritage and identity. But temporarily removing the enchantment would be interesting in the context of his relation to another human character. Is there any way for me to include this bit in the series without being hung by my thumbs?

>>82313154
People of color? It's easier than saying 'all the people who aren't white' I thought Tumblr even used that term.

but i cant do that anymore when the mods are deleting all the homestuck threads.
>>
>>82313167
that actually sounds really interesting. a lot of people might see it as a metaphor for black americans who feel pressured to get in touch with their 'real' heritage, when it hasn't been their heritage for centuries and they feel american as fuck. meanwhile the dashiki-wearers are calling them uncle tom and giving them shit

not me though, i just like the idea of a whole bunch of people getting enchanted into thinking theyre a different species. that's just plain cool. what's the reasoning behind it? I actually somehow read "to be used as slaves" in your post despite you not saying that at all.

>>82313235
I just wanted to include this particular non-human race of people (cool snake folk) while trying to keep it... moderately evolutionarily feasible? I wanted traceable origins for all of my species instead of some weird hodgepodge.

It originated from a single all-human town that was cursed by a wizard a long-ass time ago. My current idea for why he did it was that his partner either cheated on him or left him for another man and so he cursed her and her lover to look snake-like because he saw them both as double-crossing snakes. Then something went wrong with his spell and it cast the curse too wide, enchanting everyone in town and the generations to come with similar snake-like features.

The first generation of humans under the spell were clearly distressed by this and so there became a local fascination with magic, in the hopes of unravelling the genius magician's spell. The second generation didn't care as much about changing it, since they grew up with it and honestly took a lot of pride in their local uniqueness, but even as interest in unravelling the curse faded the magic fixation stuck. So now the snake people and their city are a superpower of magical research and well-respected nationally. People assume that because of the enchantment they have a closer connection to magic and that's why they do better with it (which is really just because of the cultural leaning).

They figured out how to remove the spell a while ago but it's a pretty uncommon procedure, usually only undergone in the case of a snake-person/human couple deciding they'd prefer a human child. The character I have in mind just has a human partner (who grew up with just humans) who's dying to see it.

>>82313386
Eh, it'd be interesting, but there's no real opportunity for that in the plot. The snake people are generally accepted as part of larger society, even presumed to be magical geniuses.
>>
>>82313202
kinda just answered your own question there
>>
>>82313560
structures in what sense? like, using construction and shit? i do sometimes, that's the next step. this is just basic blocking out of heights and proportions. i can eyeball that. but part of keeping it all so simplistic is making that frequently skippable. if i fuck up proportions it's easy as hell to just fix them without having to redraw much. i've also gotten very fond of using resize and rotation tools to fix something that's perfect except for its orientation or size.
>>
>>82313613
I didn't ask a question.
>>
>>82313560
ahh that is interesting alright. it's good, if your head is the kind of head that does a bunch of gymnastics trying to justify stuff in a setting, if you CAN come up with ways to use the bits you wanna use. to not let your anality spoil the fun, right? i try to do that too.
i would have just come up with a reason you could have snake people. i mean shit, life can do a TON of weird shit. but here a whole bunch of people under an illusion spell, who have been for generations.. that is keen. feels like something you'd see on doctor who or something.

>>
>>82313909
of course we don't care, the point is YOU care
and if you're so worried about offending, maybe you should look at who's being excluded when you use terms like that. i didnt hear you showing any worry about how the white people might feel

just, don't let your desire for 'diversity' and your worry about what 'people might think' become a convenient feelgood nothink easy-chew pez-dispenser replacement for actually caring about people
>>
>>82313909
"people of color" is automatically an "us versus them" term. it shows a frame of mind. there are many other ways to convey that thought you had.

>didn't want people to think i'm an ass for not having diversity
>didn't want people to think i'm an ass for having too many white dudes
>>didn't want people to think i'm an ass for not putting the united nations on my cast

but you chose the one you did for a reason. you may not even realize, or want to see, how racist you actually are.
>>
>>82314078
I don't care if people think I'm racist, I just don't want my friends comic to completely fail because I didn't design more colored characters and the viewers thought it was racist or too bland. I have no concern for the whites because they aren't who I'm addressing, I have enough whites designed.
>>
>>82314218
not even that anon but piss off. people of color is the standard term used today. my source: mainstream news programs.

>>82314350
when i design characters i draw them a bunch of different ways, including different races or ethnicities. i think it's easy to imagine white as the default when that's what you're used to (consider most popular media) but its fun to explore different possibilities. if the 'diverse' characters you make are just as rounded nobody is gonna think you put them there for diversity. for example...nobody accuses the sisters, bug quest, or the schoolhouse rock looking comic of "diversity pandering" because the characters of color are treated the same way as the white ones in their execution.
>>
>>82314218
So what should I do, add more people who aren't white? Or just keep it as is?
>>
>>82314491
Thank you for both of these comments. I haven't thought about making a few designs then picking one, so I'll defiantly try that.
>>
>>82314218
with this logic, calling someone black would still be an us versus them term. ANY term for someone is an us versus them. If you describe an employee to his manager and you said 'he's black' that isn't racist its fucking fact. You can't say 'well he's a human'
>>
>>82313712
Eh, the fun for me comes from the anality, in a sense. I like fantasy with an internal logic to it. In this case it was an old series with a species involved I wanted to retrofit a story for.

And I appreciate your calling it keen. I'll specify that they're not under an illusion, it's really just a bunch of snake people and they're aware of human ancestry.

>>82312804
Whose two things are kinda contradictory; if you want want to add more "character of color" you'll have to add more "non Europeans-looking characters" (I mean, people of southern Europe look rather similar to those of North Africa but that's besides the point)

You say
>I just don't want my characters to be copy's of the other characters or extreamly similar in appearance,

But what does that have to do with it? You can draw different ethnicities without having them all look the same

dude in panel 3 has a lazer pistol, they all have laser pistols except fairune, she uses an ancient 6 barrel lead bullet pistol revolver, she is the only one that does, its ancient but a lot faster and more deadly than the lazer pistols all the other cowboys and cowgirls use

the lazer pistols are powered by the red blood gems they get off old playing cards that people used to summon monsters and have monster card battles with, before the fallout, before the wasteland

but since no one can use cards to summon monsters and play with anymore they use the gems off of them to power there weapons and stuff

I know it's a meme, but please, read some Loomis books. Fuck, read a "How to Draw Manga" book, I don't care, just try to incorporate SOME level of structural understanding, design sense and awareness of anatomy into your art.

My mom is literally the only woman I interact with on a regular basis and nobody's called me out on it yet.

Generally, I think it works out fine so long as you keep in mind that women don't know what women are like any better than men know what men are like and that their identity as women are as varied as men's identity as men.

I think that's it. Just think of the character as a human, rather than (gender), (race) or (sexuality), and it normally works out alright.

Time for that lemonade to work its magic!

Actually, this is starting to remind me of a Calvin & Hobbes strip where Calvin is trying to prove something and he tries to get the local bully, Moe, to beat him up, but Moe thinks that it's a trap and he doesn't beat up Calvin, which proves Calvin right, albeit in the wrong way.

Someone else knows what I'm talking about, right?

A boy falls in love with a girl.

Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number.

This post is reflective of tripfags in this thread: no idea what they're doing, but delusional that they do.

You don't construct. Just because you've drawn some circles and lines before, doesn't mean you do. It's through the repetition of those basic lines/circles that you begin to understand their relation/proportion to one another. Eventually you refine it to the point where you can draw each character's frame in seconds, with high level of accuracy and consistency.

But you'd rather be lazy and just doodle "until it looks right", while everything takes ages to draw and has no consistency. You are what dewd would be in 3-4 years going at his current pace.

That whole series is rather infamous for ill-preparing people.

I myself despise the series for muddling google-fu forever. I'm interested in learning techniques from actual manga-ka and thanks to those fucking books, search engines are completely useless to this effect.

I think the thing I got most out of it is the rule of >
that when someone's hit, the part of their body that's hit should be the bend-point and their whole body should bend in response. Until then I was drawing people getting hit stiffly and it didnt look right at all
Also got some great 'being blown across the room' poses and 'falling down' poses that arent just 'lol i rotated 180 degrees'. it's good shit.
right now i'm working on remembering to draw people leaning into a run. For some reason I never fucking remember that. i have a bunch of running pose references saved to try to remind me.
>>
>>82325864
hey good job, she really does look like a dude on the right, with just a few subtle changes. i actually didnt read the description at first and thought that was a mistake, and was going to correct you on it.
one thing i will still correct you on is those snake tails. you've GOTTA put more care into making a nice gradually tapering tube, not just an S and a more different S. those tails are.. CONSISTENTLY bad, so this isn't just not paying attention, you did that out of a solid habit.
interestingly enough though you did give the female a fatter tail. that's actually a good idea. female reptiles store fat in there just like human lady hips
>>
>>82325933
How do I do a better job at making a tapery tube?

What is a tapery tube? Is that just funny talk for tail?

If so, what can I do to make a better tail?
>>
>>82326084
well, once you draw the first curve, try to draw the second curve so that it's an equal amount distant from the other curve at each point.. getting just slowly, gradually closer together. See how yours got closer together in the middle, then further apart again further down, then just suddenly pinched off?

one thing that helps some people is, during the sketch portion, they draw a series of ovals inside the tube to keep track of it, or even a single spiral. this also helps you draw things like ram horns without getting lost. that might be a bit advanced for you at the moment though. just try to keep the two sides of the outlines an even distance apart

>>
>>82327147

A starting point, or symbolic drawing?

Yes, they teach you bad shortcuts. You can unlearn them. If you move onto better things, you will quickly realize what was wrong in the old shit and unlearn it. The problem is if you never try to go forward.

Not everyone is going to start off going into a life drawing class, and I would wager that most people don't know by age 12 that they need to study perspective for years and years to compose images similar to what they like. So, I guess in that sense, yes, if you're in your mid-twenties, the book isn't particularly useful of a starting point.
>>
>>82327368
I don't think you have actually read these. They don't teach shortcuts, bad or otherwise, or symbol drawing. They teach real normal art techniques that all proper art books teach, including perspective and shit. basically identical to any other guides.
>>
ooh here's another good example. actually the fact that volume 1 covers the construction shit is pretty much all the defense this series needs.
>>
>>82326528
>>actually reading those how to draw manga books

>>
>>82327457

You understand that the fist in >>82326395
is symbolic drawing, right?

Or the nose? Or the eye? The ear? Those are the shortcuts front and center, lad. These starter books, manga or otherwise, don't tend to emphasize drawing from life. They give you shortcuts that work, like building up from the blocks and spheres, but you will run into symbolic pitfalls if you never get out and force yourself to learn what the shit actually looks like.

You're no fun.

I've always seen those books as inspirational more than educational. They're not anatomy books, but they inspire you to specifically draw manga. So in that sense they're a good starting point. They get you interested and excited about the style and art.

Got a million and one ideas for a webcomic, but lately I settled on this scrapped game idea I had for a bunch of monsters inspired by the Universal horror line who have to share a flat upstairs from Van Helsing's descendants. >>
>>82328107
indeed, not too original, but sometimes starting with recognizable icons can be great!

one of those things is not like the other, though.

so is it just neighbor-shenanigans? kinda like a sitcom? because that's going to rely heavily on your quality of humor. Basic sitcom rule: the situation only gets you through episode 1, after that it's down to the writing. and by season 2 you shouldn't be relying on the setting's quirks for humor at all anymore (like Family Guy stopped making 'stewie isn't a normal baby' a punchline) By season 4 or so you should be forgetting they're even unusual (like how they barely referenced being aliens in Third Rock by that point) and just enjoying the characters and writing you've come to love.

I think you don't want to admit your shortfalls, anon. If you think symbolic drawing ends once you learn that the eye isn't a circle, then you don't get what it is. Drawing a little triangle and calling it a nose is symbolic drawing, even if all the other manga artists do it. Not everyone needs to go above and beyond and really understand it all, no. But that limits what you can do. And those books will limit you if all you do is try to use them and avoid learning how to better render shit. You think Loomis or Richard Williams just sat on their asses and said "well I can draw a cartoon rabbit, good enough!"

If the dude is happy with all he can make with it, that's fine. But if you think those things are anything more than a starting block, you're daft.

>>82327813
That's basically what I'm saying. They're good as a starting point, teach a few bad things that you can unlearn, and so long as you move beyond them there's no obvious problem. They're no better or worse than HOW 2 DRAW MAHVEL shit.
>>
>>82328197

This is the pitfall of a lot of artists. They don't realize how style is exaggerated from realism. You only short change yourself. But in the end, it's up to how much effort you want to put in and how good you want your art to look. Frankly, it just seems your goals aren't set very high
