It's like you missed the entire point.
But yeah, it's like he takes stuff out of context to give the 'feel good' message people want to justify continuing their current behavior.
Who would ever have thought that googling "inspirational quotes" and then making a comic about one without understanding it could result in something shitty.

Kek. Got me.
>>82084579
How do you read this?
>>82086050
You don't. It's not worth your time.
>>82085560
Gott, this is so retarded.
I have a housemate who sings and hums a lot. His father plays guitar, but this dude cannot. Will just drone on while he's on his computer. It is not a good voice.
He still claims he's 'very musical' though. He can't read sheet music, or play anything. His voice is not good. The stuff he listens to and hums/sings/drones is pleb-tier.
But it's ok that he hasn't spend the years I have learning how to do music. We shouldn't discourage anybody, because everyone is special. The people who just started are just as special as the people who've devoted their lives to some talent.
>>82085856
Which one?
The one where the guy literally leaves his wife, job and home to chase a Game of Thrones fantasy?
Or the one where it says creating is more important than literally anything else?
The latter is less retarded. The first is full-blown autism that wouldn't be out of place on /a/ or /mlp/
>>82085560
Is he ignoring the fact that it costs lots of money to support an artist, like thousands of dollars?
>>82086356
That, and implying that one person working for disney gets to create something all their own, and it's not a thinktank designed to sell products.
And also, that no matter how hard you try, you sometimes plumb won't make it. You didn't have the talent or luck, or someone was just plain better.
>>82084842
I want to time out how much it takes me to read this crap...or if I give up
>it starts with some sci-fi army background
uuuuuuughhh
More important than being 'creative' is being able to make something that sells.
It's absurd how many people forget this.
If you want to make money doing what you love, you've got to love making things people will buy, and actually get the money from making them rather than getting assfucked by someone who's profiting off of what you made.

>>82086633
Fun fact: You wanna know why people are able to get away with making shitty webcomics for a living?
Because you only need 1000 dedicated autists dumping $100 into your bank account a YEAR to earn $100,000 a year before taxes and shit.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1000 people is 0.00030959752 PERCENT of the population of the United States.
If you have one percent of the US giving you a dollar a year, you're raking in 323 thousand dollars.

I know, but I bring it up because successful clickbait can 'catch' a relatively high percentage of the population compared to webcomics, even though every click earns, say 0.02 US. Enough articles, and you're looking at some serious money.

go for realistic goals. it doesn't mean you have to give up, cut your hair, put on a suit and become an asshole, it just means you're never going to have your own disney franchise and if you don't drop the idea by 30 you're probably going to end up on /cow/

for example a stealth bomber is shown there; if that idea isn't rejected (sorry rejector, your head asplode) then they're stuck using it even though air attacks are already demonstrably ineffective.
the blimp is even worse, it doesn't even have the chance of escape that the stealth bomber did (and even that was dubious compared to the F-18)

Any creative type should have a thick skin. You're going to get criticized no matter what you produce. It's good to consider some of the criticism and throw out other shit. He'd rather do that than fucking have anyone improve, or God (granted this faggot doesn't seem to believe in God) forbid, pay attention to his audience's basic fucking analysis, or anyone's basic fucking analysis? Holy fuck, and I thought Jeph Jacques was bad.
And if he saw my post he'd probably think he's smart because his comic is "describing my hate," because his personal self-validation somehow equates to "wisdom."
>>82088499
i'm as capitalist as can be, buddy.
it's because i value a free market* that i came to hate the idea. it's one of the most tangible (and least acceptable) ways that a bigger company gains an advantage over a competitor that isn't quantitative to the advantage of their product.
*i do believe some intervention is necessary to prevent monopolies in practical terms, as well as because convincing people to go full libertarian is much harder than fighting a pragmatic battle to slowly take the state out of places it doesn't belong while ignoring it in others.

>you either love everyone's work or you're pro-censorship
>there are only two modes: "WOW, THAT'S AMAZING" and "HOW DARE YOU DRAW THIS CRAP"
Strawman bullshit, and ironically an attempt to block more nuanced discussion on the matter in favor of viewing it through a politically correct lens (censorship).
There are many people out there who are, at their cores, lazy, egoistical, and full of shit, and are completely unwilling to change. This includes people who get into the arts. A well known example that's already been mentioned is Christian Weston Chandler. He will NOT hear that companies like Nintendo, Sega, or Marvel expect a greater command over anatomy, perspective, and composition from their employees. Instead, he views art more as a medium to push his hilariously self-centered world view in a lazy, uncreative fashion, and he fully expects the world to give him the popularity and authority that he wants in return. Until CWC learns to be humble and take criticism to heart (lol), he will never improve. CWC is an extreme example, but ego trips along the same lines are depressingly common among art communities that are more open to the average artist, and it's really best for the community as a whole if you tell these fuckheads to either get their act together or fuck off. You don't want their sense of entitlement to influence new artists.
Furthermore, aesthetics are largely up to the viewer. If they only know you through your art, and they don't like your art, you can't really expect them to pretend that their impressions are positive for the sake of the feelings of a stranger. This is also censorship. Consequently, having a world where people are allowed to offend you is a sign of a world that values freedom of expression. The main party that's trying to push this crap are those who fight to enact REAL censorship, pretty much always complete with double standards and a hatred of nuance.

>why would the mom over-react to that
It's a part of his straw man depiction of society.
He wants to portray the mom (who generously allowed this loser to leech off of their family) as a closed minded slave to The Man who's afraid of seeing people express individuality. In his world, this appears to be the primary reason why someone would become angry towards people who are slacking on their responsibilities in favor of fucking around in their notepad, criticize someone's art, and/or not enjoy his company.
>and also anyone else thinl he was about to rape her

I know; it feels really mean-spirited singing such a great song intentionally badly.
>>82091933
>slacking on their responsibilities
to be honest this is generally a bad attitude to have.
but this thread's hit the bump limit so getting into why society's stuck with slackers no matter what we do because there are more unemployed people than job openings and one might as well embrace it, and how the creator's still dumb but basically inadvertently tangentially makes a point i can sort of agree with isn't worth anyone's time.
>>82091087
>is that a state alchemist uniform?
Yes, with bits of Naoto from Persona 4 thrown in.
>what the fuck is going on here?
A minor but shameless case of plagiarism from a grown-ass adult who writes people with different hobbies into his comic just so he can yell "stop liking what I don't like" at them.
>>82091979
So you'd be okay with someone slacking off on your dime, and wouldn't give a shit if your kid was ignoring school and heading straight towards poverty?
He doesn't make any good points.
>there are more unemployed people than job openings
In a developed country, not really. It's just that people avoid the fields with the jobs. That's why some jobs pay so goddamn much: They have a shortage of qualified workers, and the employers really want the few that are around to come work for them.
>>82087427
I expected some /pol/ edit, but this got me to laugh out loud
>>82092083
>on your dime
if we're talking taxation, fuck it, sure. i've got bigger problems. if they were living with me, their presence (i like my alone time) would be more annoying than their consumption of my food.
>and wouldn't give a shit if your kid was ignoring school and heading straight towards poverty?
i'm of the view that any kid i'd hypothetically have would be bound to a shit tier service-sector job at best, and unemployment at worst. i do not have positive visions for the future. it follows that i can't hate on anyone for slacking. i'm actually pretty fond of people who get jobs and slack off in them though. living the dream.
>In a developed country, not really. It's just that people avoid the fields with the jobs.
this is an additional factor. even if you magically gave every unemployed person relevant qualifications, the number of them exceeds the number of openings.
(not to mention some people are just fucking dumb and are never going to be computer scientists.)
>>82092148
>if we're talking taxation, fuck it, sure. i've got bigger problems. if they were living with me, their presence (i like my alone time) would be more annoying than their consumption of my food.
If you were employing them, anon. For example, if you hired an HVAC guy to fix your AC, and he just sat down in the middle of the job and started drawing.
>Don't try, kid! You're just going to be a loser!
I hope you never kids.
Also, you don't seem to understand unemployment very well. Any economic system that allows people to choose their employment and their employees is going to have unemployment. Why? Because people get fired, people quit, people get laid off, and contracts end. Unemployment is a sign of economic freedom. So long as it's not too high, it's not necessarily a sign that there are too workers and not enough jobs.
Generally, if you live in the city, and your city isn't a shithole, there's a job for you somewhere if you look hard enough.
>>82090087
Is the left-hand comic drawn by Cubewatermelon or something?
>>82092237
>For example, if you hired an HVAC guy to fix your AC, and he just sat down in the middle of the job and started drawing.
I'd be pissed in that specific instancepartly because he got himself caught., i was getting at the slacker later on.
>Don't try, kid!
don't put words in my mouth. if i'm stiffed with a kid, i'll encourage them, but i'm not having a kid because i don't believe it's the right thing for me to do and because i don't see a bright future for them in a primarily service-sector economy.
>So long as it's not too high, it's not necessarily a sign that there are too workers and not enough jobs.
you seem to have implied that i was saying i wanted a 0% unemployment rate. you can have unemployment in an economy where there are more openings than workers, that would be a clear sign of economic liberty without anyone unwillingly unemployed - but in some towns in the UK there are nearly 20 fucking people to each job opening. (and no, that's not including people too disabled to work, children, adults not seeking work, or the retired.) and the average is still something like 3 to 1.
>there's a job for you somewhere if you look hard enough.
and even if you get it, 19 other saps are still going back to the job centre for their £60 a week.

>the average is still something like 3 to 1.
Ratio of 2.4 to 1 if you take the current unemployment figures against the number of vacancies in late 2015. (Lazily tried to calculate it because that sounded obscene but apparently you're closer than not.)
For the time I got the vacancy figures there were about 850,000 on JSA, leaving you with a bunch of unemployed people not on it. Not even enough vacancies to get everyone off welfare*
*For Americans who don't know Britain's welfare system: the welfare I'm talking about is Job Seeker's allowance. As named, it only applies to those looking for work - refuse to look for work and you'll be sanctioned, i.e. they'll stop giving you money. Welfare for the disabled is Employment Support Allowance. They're trying to roll it all into "universal credit" but honestly I've not read into that.
And yet Britain's government keeps on with the line that there are jobs for everyone and that those on JSA are just lazy. :^)
>>82092326
One of the comics earlier >>82088062 had him portray his boss (who represented the ever so evil and oppressive Global Corp) getting pissed at him for drawing while on the job.
>towns
Small towns are a horrible place for work. You really need to move into the city, which is the center of commerce.
>How are they supposed to get there with no money?!
Buses and trains are cheap. They could also get themselves a clunker.
I've known people who were chronically homeless who got into a place where there was actually employment to be had. If they could manage the means to move, so could anyone else.

i get the feeling that this is not talking about up and coming artists and is rather an artist who refuses to improve not liking that people criticise him.
was this by any chance made by any of the people who illustrate the mlp comics. on which note when the pinkie comic one comes out we will probably have a new greatest example of waaaah dont complain about low quality work.

>getting pissed at him for drawing while on the job.
again, his own fault for getting caught. I was getting more at the thing with slacking in general. in the UK people are accused of slacking when they're facing a numerically unbeatable problem.
>You really need to move into the city, which is the center of commerce.
in the UK? holy shit lol.
(City rent in the UK is absolutely laughably insane due to terrible housing policy and space limitations. Like "multiple thousand £ a week for a literal cupboard's worth of space"), you'd be willingly making yourself homeless (and still not find a job.)
>where there was actually employment to be had
in the UK those places are few and far between, especially if you're an unqualified schlub.

He portrays a pretty clear dichotomy: Either you only have positive things to say about his artwork, or you're Hitler.

wait so was she concept artist, animator and director on this one film.

People can't commute from a cheaper neighborhood in the UK?
>>82092508
many can and do (even though our rail network is shit), but if you're up in the north of scotland you can hardly commute down to london every day to wash dishes.
>>82092496
so yeah just like the pony comic artists
and the writers for that matter
>>82092525
Can't they move to the places where commuting is available?
>>82092548
for it to be really viable, they're going to start moving into "laughably high rent" territory. (not quite literal cupboard, that's to cut out the commute, but still bad.)
and ultimately for all the rhetoric that those who don't work are scroungers instead of statistical inevitabilities, any low-paid person commuting from one overpriced house (partly subsidized by the state, but privately owned and rented out!) is probably scrounging more than the poor sap on the dole. (measurable at £57/wk)
>>82092568
There are no cheap neighborhoods anywhere within commuting distance of the jobs?
I'm having a hard time buying this.
>>82092548
For an unskilled worker the UK employment system, and especially the un-employment system is a kafkaesque joke.
>>82092591
are there zero? No.
are there a stupidly tiny amount, valuable only on technicality because any given unemployed person isn't fucking superman? yes.
remember: even if you get yourself a job, someone else is still left on the dole. "not your problem" doesn't sidestep that someone's still fucked by the system in spite of his best efforts.
>>82092591
I still want to know, when you've got 2.4 individuals to every 1 opening nationwide, how does commuting help?
Remember, both figures are nationwide, so it's not a problem with allocation.
>>82092606
Those low income housing communities would grow if people started moving to where the jobs are.
>>82092644
So literally over half of the country isn't working? How are you not collapsed? I'm calling bullshit.
>>82092677
>So literally over half of the country isn't working?
How the fuck do you conclude that?
an "opening" is a job that isn't already being done. that's why it's "open"
But fuck that, I was going to scratch that example anyway (take my word for it) because that 2.4 could be fudged in some way, it was an ugly calculation.
let's take a simpler example:
850,000 on unemployment benefit/welfare (read: constantly badgered by the state to apply for any job opening.) nationwide in 2015
700,000 job openings (again, that's places available, not places already filled.) nationwide in 2015.
lol devil
>>82092712
>an "opening" is a job that isn't already being done. that's why it's "open"
And while it doesn't bare saying, I'll say it to be safe.
"Individuals" in that post meant "unemployed individuals", not "individuals in the UK as a whole", the number in question was about 1.7m, not about 65m.
>>82092677
>if people started moving to where the jobs are.
they do. lo and behold the comedy of london rents.

You know, you could encourage him to get better, instead of telling him to drop it, grandpa.

I'm moving to Manchester
