Steven Universe, despite all the SJW bile it gets, rarely ever directly states any kind of message. It's all done through actual character development and indirect actions. Y'know, the more I see of this show, the more I think I get the real problem.

They're trying WAY too hard in the wrong places.
They're putting a bunch of animation emphasis onto the girls that wasn't needed (the eye animations) while not putting enough quality into the general animation/designs.
They're throwing in joke after joke and running gags at full force without actually thinking of the quality or timing so it all just feels forced.
And they're apparently trying to put in positive messages and shit without giving actual thought to the plot/story of the episodes fitting in with it so it comes off as subtle as fucking 90s Sailor Moon.

The original PPGs and hell, even Steven Universe, did try things, but they knew how to construct the stories and humor, and they knew/know what parts of the animation should get emphasis and what to make more stylized.

Well I think the guy here is clearly more comfortable drawing live like that. The woman doing bubbles sounds like she's not used to narrating her drawing process and is addlibing way too much without talking about the strokes themselves.

That's just sketching. Anyone who's drawn starts off with that with almost anything they do. While it certainly helps to learn to trust yourself and start to trust your line work with longer gestures, for something like this video that's just meant to be a quick how-to sketching is more than fine.

I'm not trying to "defend" anything here but trying to compare these half minute sketches as a true definition of these people's "artistry" Especially since Butch still sketches his stuff out like pic related.

That isn't to say that this lady isn't inexperienced or anything, this is supposed to be her first job. But that's kind of unfair grounds to compare her to Butch who's been drawing in his style professionally for like, ten plus years. Especially on the basis of "chickenscratching."
