I will agree with you insofar as Vader, for whatever reason, gave up a lot of his ambitions when he was sealed into his armor. It's possible that this is an indication for how he learned from his error with Obi-Wan. Or he really did lose his ambitions and settled for merely securing the Empire. In some ways while LotS show that Vader feels stronger in the Force he still ends up being little more than Sidious' attack dog. Something the comics set after ANH hammer home.

In this way Kylo Ren remaining Snoke's lapdog IS consistent with wanting to be Vader, but in the worst way. Ahem, worst way in more ways than one.

Fucking awful. Reverts fun TCW Quinlan Vos to his shitty Legends edgelord characterization, and shits on Ventress' character to boot. This and Aftermath are the two worst missteps in the nucanon, novel-wise.

Easily the best nucanon book. Very fun and continues the traditions of the best Legends books. Would definitely recommend.

Pretty good. Kanan and Hera are fun, and the book has its moments.

Weird tense, repetitive writing, cardboard characters, author is a tool. Pretty much no redeeming factors to this one.

It's the only one, so far, that actually expands the world past Return of the Jedi.

Aside from Uprising (a mobile game) and The Force Awakens, everything else is set between 1-6 or VERY shortly after.

So yeah, sadly, the "most important" book is also the worst. This is a case where I certainly would recommend a more fun read like Lords of the Sith.

I don't think Aftermath is even THAT important. I think, in time, as we get more stuff in that time period, Aftermath will become significantly less important. It just that right now, it's all we have.

Got to the Maul vs Kenobi issue until the thread was about dead, so I never got to voice an opinion there, but I'm baffled why people think Maul would win easily versus him based purely on the movies, and their obvious limitations.

For one thing, Vader was quite obviously capable of taking on far more acrobatic opponents when animated, showing that they're not using the limitations of the film as a baseline.
For another, Obi-Wan has been seen in both film and the new comics to be reflecting on the Force and biding his time, whereas maul is in an obviously miserable and pathetic position with no outlet for his rage.

In terms of mastery of the force, Obi-Wan would have Maul beat by a large margin, and it's the force that truly matters in duels.

I'm personally hoping for a duel that displays Obi-Wan as a rock against Maul, barely moving but for instinctive, minor and vital adjustments, and not giving ground at all to his assault.

We got through it last time. At least the teasers were a bit gentler this time around. They gave us a round table where people were talking about what they wanted to see with a few hints of what we will see. The interviews haven't been much more forthcoming.

Last year dropped A-Wings and the Rebel Command Ship on our laps. We had so much speculation and buildup from that. Then Celebration happened and we learned that the damn thing didn't even last past the opening episodes. Really, Filoni? You always have to giveth and then taketh away, don't you?

That's because it's been a decade since the prequels ended and now a lot of people who were kids when the prequels were new are adults now who look back on them fondly. When they were new, longtime fans of the original trilogy despised them. There are entire feature length documentaries about how disgusted OT fans were by the prequels when they came out.

It's not just that, by far. I'm a child of the 80s, didn't like the Prequels at first but my opinion of them has softened. It was never full on fall to the Dark Side hate, and even then I agreed with the sentiments of several reviewers that no matter what the movies had been they would never have lived up to the hype. TFA is dealing with that too.

Thing is it's hard to hold onto hate for so long. Helps that TCWs helped restore my faith in the setting. But I may have been an easy sale because even when I was disappointed in the way the Prequels presented the story I still appreciated the atmosphere.

I'm distrustful of such documentaries. Finding people who are willing to act out their disgust and play it up to the camera are easy to find. After all, we've seen the "Alliance to Restore the EU" jokers.

The fact that Ezra managed to open the holocron tells me he hasn't just tasted the dark side. Maul said that to open it you have to be a Sith or think like one.

Ezra is thinking like a Sith. He WILL fall, and sooner rather than later. They might save it for the season 3 finale, but I would not be remotely surprised if he fell as early as the season 3 midpoint.

Sith holocrons do actually contain knowledge in them, they are just stupidly hard to open is all. Usually you have to have some dark side leanings and be very good at puzzles.
You have to remember that the Sith tend to be a very jealous bunch, they don't really believe in the whole idea of free information. So they would usually have one they'd use as a personal diary to hide all of their secrets.
One Sith holocron can contain so much data from a single Sith lord that sometimes they even have their own personalities that mirror their old owners.

Let's not exaggerate. Anakin played loose with the rules, but for most of the time he was with Ahsoka he still adhered fairly close to the Jedi way. Even when he had moments where he did very un-Jedi-like things, he usually didn't share this with other people.

I doubt Maul even knew what would be on the holocron other then the fact that it was the key to the temple and had some info on it. Considering the all the dead jedi outside it's safe to assume the temple was from when the Sith Empire was still in charge and there were armies of Sith. It had to be after Nihilus ate that planet (has the same name as the one he ate) so that temple and that holocron has to be from the Republic Sith wars so around 3600 years old. The rule of two stuff was around back then to describe Sith lord and Sith apprentice relationships and not just that their were only two Sith. There are way too many dead jedi out their to have only been two Sith holding them back before the weapon fired. There had to have been an army of Sith out their fighting them.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. But what can you expect from a religious cult of force users? I don't like it, but I think it can't be unreasonable in the minds of the characters of the Jedi. He's definitely obsessed by his revenge against Sidious which limited his interests significantly. Even Ezra as an apprentice was a means to his end and something ultimately to strengthen his position.

I think there are many things they could do with him, even things that have nothing to do with the holocron. Imagine for instance he starts fucking around on Mandalore again, trying to round up old allies now that the whole Temple of Doom idea fell through. You could get an episode where Sabine and her potential death watch parents are involved with Maul.

I really liked the Jakku message and the Snowspeeder Chase. Those scenes should have been in the movie.

The rathtar scene should have been removed in favor of the Finalizer creeping up on Han's barge. Hux hails them, Han tries to talk his way out of it, fails to show he's washed up. The Finalizer starts firing to cripple the ship, they escape in the Falcon.

This removes the awful rathtar scene and gives you room to put back those two good scenes.
