It's not quite as I remember it:

In truth, Darth Vader is gone now. The body Luke eases gently to the floor is Anakin Skywalker.
"Luke, help me take this mask off," Anakin says, no longer booming."

It takes Luke a moment but he soon discovers how the front of Vader's mask can be detached from the helmet and removed. When he does so, the sound of Vader's respirator, already ragged, stops. And now Luke sees for himself the face of his father: scarred and battered into something barely human. And now Anakin sees his son's face: a handsome face creased with concern and, yes, bearing its own battle scars. But at least Anakin sees him not as a Jedi or a warrior or a threat or a mistake, but as his son...and Padme's son.

And Anakin smiles. Not a smile like the Emperor's. Or a crazed grin like Darth Maul's. Not even a smirk like Anakin might have shown Ahsoka back in his Jedi days. But a real smile. The smile that only Padme ever saw.
"Now...go, my son," Anakin struggles to say. "Leave me."
"No. You're coming with me. I can't leave you hear! I've got to save you!"
"You already have, Luke. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister...you were right."
"Father...I won't leave you."

Anyway i just saw the finale and damn, that was intense. If there wasn't the silly lightsaber helicopter things it would have been perfect (but it's a show for kid so it's okay i guess). i really like Rebels and TCW overall but i loved the shit out of this.

For the guy who asked in the last thread why "soisoisoisoi" is being used as the onomatopoeia for helicopter noise, as I recall it's from people fucking around with text-to-speech software back in the day.

They fed in the line "MY ROFLCOPTER GOES SOISOISOISOISOISOI" and the program pronounced the "oi" of "soi" the same way the French pronounce the "oi" of "moi", so you get "SWAHSWAHSWAHSWAHSWAH" fast enough to sound like a helicopter rotor.

Lucas might be heavy-handed with his poetry, but Abrams does prose exclusively. There's no art to it. To the extent that he rhymes, he rhymes words with themselves.

Abrams has created a semi-serviceable space action movie, but he's thrown all the opera out of space opera, and that's what's ultimately wrong with TFA. Abrams should try to land a gig doing a revived Doctor Who movie; that might be more his style.

Prequels had atmosphere, but it was different than OT. It wasn't gritty desert guerrillas fighting a cold, heartless power, it was the decay and collapse of a decadent society and its dogmatic but well-meaning protectors. As for discovery - presumably the elements of discovery you're referring to are the explorations of the philosophy and legacy of the missing Jedi Order. I suspect that Bane really didn't do much to create the Rule of Two since it's very likely the Sith were already well established in a Master/Apprentice dynamic. I obviously have nothing to back this up beyond the, as far as I can tell, still canon backstory that the Sith were formed, in part, by Dark Jedi who had a schism from the main Jedi Order in the far past. The Jedi love the Master/Padawan style of on the job training.

Anyway all Bane did was limit it to one pair, which was easy at that point since everyone else was dead. Just as the Jedi Temple on Lothal wants two to open it and it is most definitely NOT a Sith Temple, it wants a Master and Apprentice present. Even pre-Rule of Two it's most logical for Masters and Apprentices to have more trust in each other (but only a fool would have absolute trust). They relied on each other, at least until one sells out the other. It's more a security feature, it seems.

I dunno, just some thoughts on the matter.

I already said it several threads ago. What I mean is in OT and TFa characters care what happens on screen. They react to new things, to situations and such.
Most of the time in PT characters simply dont give a shit what happens around them - Jedi dont give a shit about discovering an underwater city, ObiWan is very serene about whole Kamino thing, barely showing any emotions. I suspect this is more a case of bad directing, since they are capable actors, even CHristensen has genuinely good scenes. In TFA they actually care what happens around them.

This is a case of "business as usual for seasoned, disciplined warrior-diplomats" vs. "i'm a naive desert-dweller and strange things are cool". It wouldn't make sense for the Jedi to be super excited about something that's routine for them.

You do see it in TPM: Young Anakin and Jar Jar display emotion in new places, because they're not used to being in new places. The Jedi and the Queen of Naboo don't because they're supposed to be collected at all times and are less naive about the universe.

I don't know if they'll ever get into any more specifics unless they find a reason to introduce that female Sith Lord fully, which wouldn't be hard if she's still in the holocron Ezra is holding. Hard to believe Kanan is letting him keep a dark artifact like that.

Anyway it could still have the same two force user requirement to open the Lothal Temple did and Maul is merely expressing it in the ways he was taught, which heavily reference the Rule of Two. The way they were describing getting into the temple in the Filoni/Witwer interview it requires a degree of trust, which isn't easy for Sith to come by. Definitely sounds like a security feature. If you were the Sith Lord who made that battle station you'd want to make sure you didn't let it get out of your control! Pity that it wasn't a rival (that we know of) but a malfunction that killed everyone in the area.

The number of Sith present in the battle, the scale of it, seems to exclude the Rule of Two as a possibility, however it could be a Master and an Apprentice and a butt load of Dark Side posers, similar to how Vader and Sidious use the Inquisition.

Yeah, definitely hoping they explore this a bit more. Just not sure how much backstory they can cram into an episode with the temple now behind them. Only way I can figure is if the Holocron gives a massive infodump.

They always have that buisness as usual attitude, If ANH would have Luke as a seasoned general as in the original draft, the audience would be left without a surrogate. Ezra mentions to Sabine he needs power cells for his lightsaber, so they still require batteries. No clue about the old EU wearable power supplies, but obviously energy cells by this time in the Star Wars galaxy are crazy powerful while still being small. Also crazy efficient. In nu canon kybers have been shown to amplify the energy applied to them (presumably via the Force) so they do get a big boost of energy.

Of course Ezra has a gunsaber, but we're told he can't use both functions at the same time due to the powerpack being unable to support both. The Malachor cross saber also cut out, but it was so old running out of power was likely the least of it's issues.

I like the variable power modes idea. It obviously takes less power when they're using it as a flashlight in spider or geonosian filled caverns rather than always using the same intensity, but I'm not sure how the sword can tell when it needs to up the juice to cut through metal or deflect a blaster. The extra power would have to amp up so fast as to be roughly instantaneous.

I hope continuing this topic doesn't cause a shitstorm. It was interesting before that one guy spazzed the fuck out and then the whole thing spiraled out of control.

Fun fact that tends to be easily forgotten since we never saw it. According to Stealth Strike Ezra's gunsaber had a kill setting, he just never used anything other than stun. And no surprise, he's a kid. Even when he deflected a stormtrooper's blaster bolt and knocked him down he told the guy, "See? Didn't hurt" (or words to that effect).

With this lightsaber destroyed I won't be surprised if Ezra goes with either something more traditional or something WITHOUT a stun setting. I think he's ready to go dark, if not totally dark side. Not yet anyway.

Nah, that would be Maul. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an episode about potential rebel sympathizers being turned away from their cause thanks to Maul and some new allies of his using terroristic acts and not giving a damn about civilian casualties in order to weaken the Empire.

If anything is going to push Ezra away from the Ghost crew and towards the Dark Side, it is going to be something similar to the fears we saw when he was getting his crystal for his light saber; he's terrified of the idea that his new family doesn't genuinely care about him and is willing to abandon him. OMG, yes! Ezra was only willing to trust Maul after finding out that he'd also lost loved ones to the Empire, and he only started to tap into the Dark Side when he prodded him about needing to be less merciful in order to protect his friends. There's no doubt in my mind that Maul was planning on blaming Kanan and Ahsoka's deaths on the Inquisitors for the same reason.

Imagine if something went wrong and Ezra was convinced the Ghost crew abandoned/betrayed him? That would be the PERFECT moment for Maul to jump in and snatch him up.

What if Ezra is captured by the enemy and the crew can't immediately drop everything for a rescue mission?

All of these would be prime moments for Maul to jump in and convince him that the crew of the Ghost didn't really care about him, and to get Ezra to join him.

That's what some people have been saying, yeah. I don't think a lot of people really care either way. That guy was in a one-shot whose only point in his favor was surviving nearly getting Sheeved, and he probably won't survive this.

At the very least it's picking up the idea kicked around a lot after the disney sale that we'd start seeing more negative aspects of the Rebellion. The potential Rebel war crimes, the mercenaries, bounty hunters, and pirates who sided with them for the pay or because they had a mutual enemy in the Empire. That really didn't pain out, but this guy is at least full on extremist.

Plus we get to see some of those IG-RM droids enforcers, so that's not too bad.

I saw nothing of the sort in TFA, in fact I saw no ships whatsoever after Han and Chewie take off in the Falcon with Rey and Finn with the exception of the B-wing transport, TIE fighters, X-wings, and an interior shot of the Finalizer. I was shocked and disgusted by the lack of unique spacecraft for a fucking star wars film. With Dark Disciple I feel asleep listening to the audio book and since it just failed to capture my attention I never bothered to find my old place. That sounds like a denouncement but I'd already had it spoilered here so it just didn't seem worth it, especially since I'd heard the first half was the good half and it went downhill fast.

Aftermath I actually abandoned because I actually felt myself ignoring it as an attempt at self-defense. THAT is a denouncement. It is the literary equivalent of someone eating garbage and throwing it up and then digging back in for seconds. It is the Two Girls One Cup of Star Wars.
