I would agree. He is the jhardest one to get right, and this one has been as close as you can get to proper.I neglected to post the Lionheart and Bogo ones; partly because of my issues with how people keep making Bogo white, but also Lionheart comes off as the worst of this series.

Why do you have issues with that? If someone makes fan art of a character outside of their typically perceived race, there isn't anything inherently wrong with that. It's just fan art.

My issue is that it always comes with people doing pics of Nick and Judy as non-white, and then they have Bogo as white. It just bugs me, because Bogo was clearly meant to be of African descent, and people choose to white-wash him while converting the characters voiced by white actors into non-white characters.
It's just feels redundant and annoying. I know, I'm being an autist. Have Flash as The Flash as an apology for my neurotic ramblings.
>>81291341
Now that's what I call an opportunity. :^)

>>81291830
>because Bogo was clearly meant to be of African descent, and people choose to white-wash him while converting the characters voiced by white actors into non-white characters.
That's a bit of an odd perspective. If they draw the main characters as non-white people, it stands to reason they aren't "white-washing" Bogo just because they depict him as white. They're just choosing to draw Bogo as a white guy; it's a compositional choice they made. I didn't get a strong feeling anyone in this movie was "clearly" meant to be of any particular race. So I don't expect fan art of any character to be of any particular race, personally.

I just saw this and am really considering watching it again, it was a really beautiful, well thought out and heartfelt movie with maybe only one or two kid-appeal moments. It sucks I got around to it so late Zootopia threads are on the verge of being banned. Now I just scour the archives for good art.
>>81291846
Very nice! I would stretch Nick's torso more though. Those are almost too human of proportions.
>>81291775
No :>
>>81291861
I guess that's just me. He's voiced by a black actor, and he's a cape buffalo, which is an African animal. Plus the trope with most buddy cop films is the angry black police chief. So the idea of Bogo as white seems insaneto me, especially when the artist is like "I made X character African-American, because I wanted more presentation of POCs".
Anyways, I get the feeling I'm digging my own hole here, so I'll stop before this tread gets less genial.
How about that bun? Ain't she a cutie? Gonna boop it.

honestly I've seen that sentiment around and I have no idea what from, the movie is incredibly low impact, we are not telling a big story here, it is what it shows on the can, the origin tale of how mike and sully got together in the first place, take it as that and it really is great, I had a ball watching it.
It just puts you in a great mood, especially if you're a fan of the first monsters, but what you're getting is essentially just really really entertaining fluff, there's no substance.

>Opening just as the vast majority of UK schools broke up for the two-week Easter holiday, Disney Animation’s Zootropolis was nicely positioned to target the family audience. The animal animation debuted with £3.57m, with previews taking the tally to £5.31m. Add in a splendid £1.72m for Easter Monday and the total so far rises to £7.03m so far. The film should enjoy two weeks of further solid play before kids return to school on 11 April.
So, $10.1M from first weekend in UK. It's okay, I guess, considering they got it the same day they got BvS, which took first place for the weekend. I didn't know their schools took two weeks off, though.

Better to have a few fleshed out characters, than plenty of unimportant ones. Besides, sheep conspiracy nut doesn't really make sense in the grander theme of the movie.

The same way racism works in real life. People being fucking idiots and thinking the amount of melanin in your skin defines your character
>>81293716
But they got fur and feathers and scales and shit and they're trying to lump everyone into white and black categories.
>>81293687
There is a general prejudice simmilar to zootopia themes related to the species (scalies have their own bars, dogs insult cats, a lot of stereotyping), but there is a grander, deeper racism related to the black color of the fur. White-furs are on top of the social ladder, blacks at the bottom. Kepping with the 50s theme.

I wonder if any of the unused ideas will wind up being brought back for the sequel. Not the collar stuff, but the things they had before that with the Spy movie.
>Jack Savage, elite rabbit agent
>Nick and Judy wind up getting embroiled in a big mystery that he's also trying to solve
>Nick's still semi-loose with the letter of the law, but compared to Jack he's a complete straightedge
>Judy is a little more by the book, but she also bends the rules when needed, but Jack is just way out of line
>Jack tries to convince them that things only really get solved if you go outside the law sometimes
>Eventually it comes down to Judy having to choose between upholding the law properly with Nick or sorting things out "permanently" with Jack
No idea how well it would even play out considering they basically threatened Weaselton with death if he didn't talk.

Jack was the protagonist before Nick and Judy were created. The project was known as 'Savage Seas' then.
>>81294776
only thanks to the US.
I think they really dropped the ball with their attempt to keep the movie Under the length threshold for autistic, ADD-riddled children.
Personally I think they should have drawn out the rising tensions between predator and prey. With a proposal for a vote in the city on whether or not Predators should be obligated to wear shock collars as Savage attacks start to rise.
I think they should have kept the original idea for the finale taking place in a large Stadium. I think Gazelle should have orchestrated a huge event that showcased talents from both predators and prey in an attempt to show the city that harmony still exists between species. Only to have the mayor plan to Dart a large portion of the Predator performers with the intent of having them go Savage in front of a huge population of people.
And damn it they should have kept the idea of Nick going feral after being darted with the nighthowler serum but instead of attacking Judy he actually savagely defends her.

It's extract, not serum. They're pellets not darts. It's not your fault, the movie gets the wrong too. The "serum" part is forgivable because a lot of people call liquids that do things to people "serum" despite the word meaning that a liquid is derived from blood.
And it's good that it didn't end at a Gazelle event because 1) the less Gazelle was involved the better and 2) no true dance party ending.

Okay, Oscar question time.
Now, I'm the opposite of a Disneyfag -- I think 90% of what they make is vastly overrated and am sick of people sucking them and Lasseter off -- but I fucking loved this movie.
Does anyone else think it should get a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination?
I mean, in my own opinion, it was the best written animated film in years (tackled a variety of issues and a lot of plot-points within two hours but did not feel rushed at all) and if unbalanced, emotionally-manipulating films like Up and Toy Story 3 -- where people remember the one or two 'le emotional' scenes and forget the rest of the story -- can get nominations in this category why can't this movie?
>>81297406
yeah, I fucking hated frozen and thought that most disney films were pretty much worthless pandering to kids. I really think that Byron should get something though.is it because I'm a furry
>>81297406
I don't think the past Disney movies deserved the awards they got, but I genuinely think this is the only recent Disney movie (aside from Tangled) that deserves awards. The fur and lighting tech alone should bag them one.
>>81297406
Jesus, I never really thought about it, but Up really didn't deserve the award. It was cool that it had a grandpa as a protag and the first part was genuinely heartbreaking, but goddamn the movie felt like nothing in the middle (except the Ellie/house part again).

Films I want to see be given the 'Zootopia' treatment:
- Breathless
- The Third Man
- The 400 Blows (I mean come on -- the protagonist's outlook on life of "if I'm gonna be seen as a troublemaker, I might as well become one" is basically the same as Nick's)
- Gravity
- Casino Royale
- Memento
-The Crying Game
- Titanic
- Gone with the Wind
- Giant
Anything else I'm missing?

I think it would have a shot at that if it weren't for the writers dropping the ball at the climax. The words serum, dart, and framed were misused. The criticism of Bellwether explaining how she felt rather than why she felt is more forgivable since we could follow the pattern and guess she had some bad experiences. Lionheart was probably the last straw.
>>81297496Blade Runner
>>81297481
Well in fairness it didn't win, but it was nominated.
Recent Pixar movies seem to be made to Oscar-bait through having one or two really emotional scenes that make you forget that 90% of the rest of the movie is very bland and forgettable.

Insomnia
>>81297544
Yeah, but films that drop the ball often get screenplay nominations.
I mean, look at Wall-E where the first 2/3 thirds are brilliant before it turns into silly slapstick with fat humans in the last bit.
I just finished watching Gosford Park last night and the film went from 10/10 writing in the first hour to 5/10, completely-drop-the-ball-at-the-climax writing in the end. And that's a movie that WON best screenplay over Amelie, The Royal Tenenbaums, and a little film you might have heard of called MEMENTO.
Same with most of the Pixar films that get nominated sans those written by Brad Bird -- he is/was clearly the best writer to come out of that company.
>>81294004
Whoa. Mind, blown.
>>81297599
Yeah.
Nick would be Leonard.
Judy would be the wife.Bellweather would be Teddy

>over Amelie, The Royal Tenenbaums, and a little film you might have heard of called MEMENTO
Well that's fucked
>>81297568
>quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it officer Hopps?
>that's what it is to be a slave
this fits almost perfectly with the early movie script, actually
>>81297639
I know all those movies but the one that won. Everyone still talks about the movies who lost, what the fuck.
>>81297793
Yeah it's baffling.
It's like 1959 when Pillow Talk won Best Original Screenplay over North by Northwest, The 400 Blows, and Wild Strawberries.

What do you think of Byron and Rich's taste on noir films?
>>81297968
From what I've heard great.
Double Indemnity is a fucking masterpiece (can't go wrong with Billy Wilder) as is the Third Man.
Did they say anything about Sunset Boulevard? That's my personal favorite noir and one of my favorite films of all time.

>Rich Moore loves Double Indemnity and Maltese Falcon
>Byron Howard loves Third Man
>both of them like Chinatown, LA Confidential
>Nick and Judy were also kind of based on Nick and Nora
I typed what I could hear during their q&a. They answered quickly due to time constraints and sometimes had to overlap during answering, so maybe they liked Sunset Boulevard too.
