> Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice held its official world premiere last night and as you’d expect, reactions to the film began to trickle out on social media shortly after the credits rolled. While the film quietly screened for select critics earlier that weekend and will continue to screen over the coming days, official reactions from writers and their outlets are under a strict embargo – what we’re looking at here are reactions from normal folks, fanboys, and fangirls who managed to see director Zack Snyder‘s new movie before most of the world.

> You can scroll through the tweets below, but all of these ladies and gentlemen are very much on the same page. Ben Affleck‘s Batman is great, Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman steals the whole thing, it’s easily the best superhero movie of 2016, and so on and so forth.

How's Lex? Any pacing problems? Is dialogue better than MoS?

First review nigga
Es de Mexican

>Well, as I'm saying this is the best superhero movie has been done so far. The biggest of them all!
>And as blockbuster I have a professional obligation to tell, with all the pain of my heart, which is infinitely superior to other recent phenomena such as Star Wars: Episode VII.
>>
>>80957700
Not me but here are some spoilers from the guy from the Mexican premiere who was on /co/ two days ago

He thought Lex was much better then the trailers made him out to be, pacing was kinda off cause a lot of stuff is told in visions/flash backs, he didn't discuss the dialogue which means its probably average-good

> However, this wouldn’t be the first time initial response to a geek-friendly film like this has been initially overwhelmingly positive, only for the tide to turn as the film actually hits theaters. Excitement bubbles are a very real thing – getting caught up in the moment and experiencing the thrill of a world premiere can lead to all kinds of overblown reactions. Heck, I’ve been guilty of this in the past and I’m supposed to be a “professional.”

> I don’t bring this up to rain on anyone’s parade (I’m very excited to see Batman v Superman and I hope I have a reaction similar to these folks), but word on the film has been mixed for a few weeks now. Those weirdos who measure their self-worth on whether or not a movie they like has a high Rotten Tomatoes score need to batten down their personal hatches. It’s unlikely that this film will receive this kind of unanimous praise from critics and it will certainly receive additional scrutiny when normal people start paying to see it in less than a week.

There was less riding on it. Disney wasn't about to stop making superhero movies - remember, the people working on these projects have worked on them for a couple of years before they even officially get greenlit, so there are plenty of projects waiting for approval based on how this does over and above the ones we know about - nor had Disney had a particularly bad year in 2014.

Last year, Warner Bros. kicked off with Jupiter Ascending and followed up with a string of flops that have hurt the studio and eaten significantly into the profits they did make. They can't afford two straight years of that, they've got no more Hobbit movies to release and the new Harry Potter might well fall flat. Of the big 6 studios, Time Warner is probably third or so - but unlike Disney and NBCUniversal, profits and box office were down last year (significantly).

Broadly, the big 6 have continued the trends begun in 2014, and rank the same way - so even though 2014 was a better year for Time Warner than 2015, they're still basically where they were two years ago. Of course, with FOX and parent Newscorp still potentially looking to acquire and merge with Warner Bros., this is not good news with FOX in the ascendancy - even TW shareholders won't be pleased, because a potential buyout would likely give them something less than the current trading value of their shares.

If this year's merchandise sales are low, or if this movie doesn't sell well (given the behavior of merch sales around the Nolan era, one or other is likely), it's going to be another poor year regardless - so they can't afford to have both low merch sales and a big budget flop.

It would be seen as rude and potential career suicide to do otherwise. Fucking Zoolander 2 got an ovation. It means virtually nothing. Call me when it's release to the public on Thursday night.

They get money, anon.

I mean, it's obvious that there are some actual autists in the recent cape-movie threads, but if you notice, there are also people who'll just try to sell the product (in this case, BvS) and will do whatever it takes to try to do exactly that.

But at least they're somewhat more respectable that shitposters that only shit up the threads because their mums din't give them enough folic acid.

Native Spanish speaker here, not a Mexican though so some regionalisms might have escaped me. I translated this review. Very hyperbolic. I'll start posting it now.

>I had the honor to be present at the Batman v Superman premier this past Saturday in the Auditorio Nacional of Mexico City.

>Independent of the pride I felt while seeing those stars and creators of one of the most powerful cinematographic enterprises in the whole world, I have something very important to tell you, not only as a professional critic with 29 years of experience. I’ll tell you as a friend: I love Batman v Superman! I went crazy with it. It made me dream, laugh, shake, shout, and even yearn.

>If there’s anybody who could have those characters’ emblems tattooed to their skin, it’s me. They mean much to me. I adore them, I dominate them (? Don’t really understand what he means).

>Well, just how I’m saying, this is the best superhero movie to date. The biggest of them all! I have the professional obligation of saying, with all the pain in my heart, that as a blockbuster, it is infinitely superior to other recent phenomena like Star Wars VII: TFA

>Why? For a simple reason: there’s editorial sustenance, a proposal at the content level.
Batman v Superman isn’t a film just for people who look for entertainment to have a good time watching fights and special effects. It’s a profound work of art, where those who care will find tremendous political, economical, and social commentary.
>>
Luthor knows his secret identity.
Superman dies
Justice League is Darkseid
How can they possibly go down to someone like Metallo or Brainiac after all this for Man of Steel 2 without it feeling like a waste of time?

I just can't take this kind of comments seriously
BvS may actually be the best capeshit ever, that still can't make it a Citizen Kane
>>
>>80959249
That last line was supposed to be greentext.

>Don’t worry, I won’t sell you on the plot. That (selling you the plot, not the plot itself) doesn’t matter to me. What I want you to understand is the magnitude of this film which will be released in a few days, and that you should run out with your family to see it.

>Don’t miss it for anything. I’m convinced that there will be a “before” and “after” Batman v Superman in the universe of superheroes as well as in the history of cinematography. Don’t you care about being part of history? Don’t you care about being able to say “I was there”?

>Let’s start from the controversy. Millions of fans in five continents had doubted this film being good, and that the actors gave great performances. If there’s anything complicated in this industry, it’s creating content about superheroes that respects each of their origins, that has logic, and that at the same time are capable of creating something new.

>But wait, when talking about the cast, it gets worse. A lot of people have played Batman, Superman, and let’s not even talk about Wonder Woman. (? This guy in misinformed.)

>Not everyone can handle the comparisons (to previous actors on the same role), not to mention everything you have to undertake to play these roles at the physical and emotional level. It’s the most demanding thing in the world.

>Well, if you had your doubts, then forget about them. Batman v Superman is fabulous.
It respects the essence of the comics, of the characters, and it elevates them to a level comparable to Greek or Egyptian myth.
We’re facing something very strong, powerful, and perfect. And the cast is amazing.

> Ben Affleck’s life will never be the same. His Batman is potent, immense; a great discovery. It has something which no previous Batman has had in any movie: leadership.
>>
>>80959240
Keep on ignoring movies that refute your argument I guess!

Here's another ensemble cast film that got decent reviews but a garbage box office gross.

>>80959254
They'll probably never do another solo Superman film again like Marvel is doing with Hulk (albeit for legal reasons too, but also box office)
>>
>>80959334
Shit, same mistake again

>What manner of constructing something huge, credible, and with moral weight. It’s impossible to look at him and not adore and respect him.

>Henry Cavill is still the best Superman of all time, but there’s something very obvious in the film, and it’s his growth as an actor. This man isn’t only the Man of Steel, he’s the great actor who can take on anybody without losing that tone of a superhero role.

>Gal Gadot makes of Wonder Woman one of the most complete and complex creations from cinema in recent years. This isn’t even a gender issue, it’s a superior matter which involves men, women, children and adults. It’s the most sublime fusion imaginable between a comics character and a flesh-and-bones human.

>And this is just the tip of the iceberg, as Batman v Superman isn’t just about these characters, it’s about much, much more. It’s full of surprises, which of course you’ll have to discover at the silver screen. Surprises which range from appearances of other DC characters, incredible situations which relate the news we read all day, and impressive audiovisual imagery. Each shot sends a message, even Mexico appears in the film! And believe me that it appears exactly where it had to show something that had to be said.

>If you appreciate your time and money, invest them in going to watch Batman v Superman, because those tickets will sell out, and it would be a shame for you not to be there. I guarantee you, as a friend and a critic, that it’s worth the while, and that when you come out of the theater, you will be transformed and end up a happier person. Not much, right?

And that was it. Sorry that I suck at greentexting.

Just got back from it and man you really need to see it as soon as you can.

I can't say much, but it's just such a good movie. Strong themes about liberty vs government control, and I think it finds the right balance. Blows the water out of Marvel movies, which I liked as well, but this is so much better.

There was one weird part though where Batman was spying on an apartment building and there's a bit of nudity for a second. It came off as creepy, but that might be a part of the whole surveillance theme.

Yes, in the context of "giant blockbuster superhero films", you would reasonably expect one that combines a bunch of known characters into one film to fight some huge bad guy to outperform a comparable solo film. Nobody expects solo Marvel movies to outperform the Avengers for this reason. Similarly it's silly to assume a solo Batman film would. However, an ensemble of multiple known DC heroes would fare a better chance, and if the movie is good, it will very much likely rival the Avengers at the box office.

I know that you think if you keep this flippant/condescending tone that means you're "winning", but this is a pretty reasonable argument that makes complete sense in this context and for anyone without autism it's pretty obvious that multiple heroes together contributed to the success of the Avengers. That's not a controversial claim, and in fact it's pretty much accepted by everyone to be the case.

>presold tickets are not taken into account for opening weekend numbers
are you autistic? of course they do. that 59% of all tickets was in one day anon, they still had the entire month to sell tickets. There was an article saying that it was already tracking higher than AoU, Furious 7, and Jurassic World. Civil War didn't get close to any of those. It may not have a big impact on the overall gross total, but it definitely does on opening weekend, and shows your shit predictions are not accurate.

>Yes, in the context of "giant blockbuster superhero films", you would reasonably expect one that combines a bunch of known characters into one film to fight some huge bad guy to outperform a comparable solo film
Funny how that didn't happen with the three movies I listed, huh.

>However, an ensemble of multiple known DC heroes would fare a better chance
According to what? Regular people don't know anything about Diana or the rest of the members of the Justice League, or anything about New Gods.

Granted GoTG was out there for a cape film choice, but so was Green Lantern.

>I know that you think if you keep this flippant/condescending tone that means you're "winning", but this is a pretty reasonable argument that makes complete sense in this context and for anyone without autism it's pretty obvious that multiple heroes together contributed to the success of the Avengers.
No it was that a cinematic universe in modern films was unheard of at the time and Marvel was taking an interesting risk.

Otherwise they could've done an Avengers film after Hulk and it would've made big bucks.

Even with trailer views, the numbers would not add up. Marvel likes to bullshit its fans by counting views over multiple platforms, including Facebook. Facebook counts a view after 2 seconds of the video playing, so if you scroll slow enough you count as a view. YouTube does not count a view until after a certain amount of time. The Comic Con trailer BvS alone reached 32 million in 24 hours off YouTube alone. Those predictions are just coming out of their asses, believe me. Not saying it will do poorly, but they're not accurate.

>>
>>80962612
AoU suffers because its a poor plate spinning act with its characters and the initial charm of seeing these characters together is somewhat diminished. Of course there is more to it than that but those 2 are worth noting.

It'll be like Avatar. Initial positive response due to Cameron. But then as it ages people will release..wow that really wasn't that good. In fact it was quite terrible.

And Disney not too happy they are on the hook to build his Avatar world still. Might be the reason Disney set out to buy up Marvel and Star Wars to counter that dumpster fire just waiting to ignite.

Also love how Cameron isn't too keen to release the other two since they won't get anywhere near the Billion Plus peak now with TFA on top.
>>
>>80963090
As far as multiverse goes, Id only want 2 things
>The Crime Syndicate
>Erza briefly cameoing on the CW Flash
And thats it. Nothing from CW should bleed over into the DCEU. But above all Id want DCEU to focus on everything THEIR universe has to offer before going down that complicated route. Oh and the Crime Syndicate casting should be what others have mentioned, being comprised of former DC actors like Bale and Reynolds

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you specimen A. In his mind, this is valid reasoning. He has regressed beyond Piaget's pre-operational stage; he has no awareness of object permanence.
He wants to experience, but he doesn't want to fully experience.
He maintains cognitive dissonance. He wants to return to a stage where negativity was nonexistent. If he wasn't forced to acknowledge consequences, he would maintain that there were no consequences.
This movie forces him to question his sanitized view of reality. And he feels uncomfortable.

>I just hate people comparing MoS's final fight to DBZ. DBZ fights have damage. Goku gets hurt a lot. Clark fights a supposedly superior threat and doesn't even get a bruise.
This is absolutely incomprehensible.
Goku getting hurt is by no means an innovation of DBZ. It is also not what lends DBZ fights their trademark aesthetic.
You just found one random difference, and for some reason, in your autistic mind, it gave you cause to be enraged. It just makes no sense.
>>
>>80972053
Never said it was an innovation.
Nor did I say it was a trademark.
But it is a difference. On that creates narrative tension and arguably is a plot point once that whole "sayians gets stronger after injury" thing got put into the story.

Clark versus Zod bored me. It's a weightless slap fight where we're supposed to care about stage damage to get our tension. But that's okay because muh miracleman 15.

Yes, DBZ and MoS have similarities and differences.
Not sure why you can use DBZ as a basis for your personal boredom during MoS.

>Clark versus Zod bored me. It's a weightless slap fight where we're supposed to care about stage damage to get our tension.

Frankly, relying on physical damage to Clark would have been the more hackneyed approach. We know Clark isn't going to die. It's absurd. What we don't know is how much damage Zod is going to cause before Clark is able to stop him.
We don't know how many thousands Zod will kill. And we don't know that their fight, although it ends up saving the world, leaves a city in ruins.
> But that's okay because muh miracleman 15.
Yes, it's kind of the exact same thing. Miracleman was never going to die. But we didn't know that Johnny Bates would destroy London and slaughter millions of innocent people, for sport.
I really like that they based it on Miracleman. I loved that issue, and it was some of Moore's finest work.

Saiyans don't get stronger after every injury. They get stronger after near fatal injury.

Regardless. Battle damage is irrelevant. What makes a DBZ fight a DBZ fight is 1. Flying 2. Punching 3. Spinning throws 4. Energy blasts and 5. Buildings falling down.

Man of Steel did all of these.

I personally find that fight to be one of the highlights of the movie. The pure sensations of raw power and speed are gripping, and the points of view, along with the fine attention to detail, allowed me to experience what being a Kryptonian felt like.
I really thought it was very well made.
Try rewatching it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WYgu6Xa-_U

Also, Superman not taking physical damage is such an odd thing to get worked up about. It's not about Clark getting physically weakened, to the point of desperation. Over the course of the fight we see Zod gain rapid mastery of Kryptonian powers. Clark has had the advantage until this point, but it becomes evident that he's being increasingly outmatched. By the end of the fight, Zod is almost as powerful as Clark (with superior strategy), and Metropolis is nearly a wasteland. This is what makes Clark desperate.

That's the point, Zod is reaching the point where his superior skill will overcome Clarks superior strenght, they go to space at 300 times the speed of sound. They keep hitting and hitting each other and zod is not bleeding, is not slowing down. Clark is seen that he can't just stop zod by fighting him in a traditional way. Hell in the first flight Clark BREAKES a mountain and not even his hair gets affected, he knows how endurable Zod will be. The magnitude of their powers is godly. It's a great escene. Some say that it doesnt feel as if superman is in danger, but that's the whole point. They could destroy the planet fighting each other without even getting tired, that's what Clark fears. and that's why he end ups killing Zod

Dude, he puts his life in danger so many times to save innocents. Hell, the first scene with Clark is him jumping into the flames, and straining his powers to hold up the oil rig.

He endangers his identity to save the kids in the schoolbus; it's a huge event in his backstory.

Except nothing hurts him, and even the threat of having his identity revealed doesn't actually seem to be that big a deal beyond the ravings of a paranoid farmer. There's a whole lot of talk about how it'll change everything and people will flip their shit, but after an alien attack squadron comes down and starts giving ultimatums there's no time spent on showing those people freaking out.

>The scene where Zod is about to burn the family alive is filled with pathos
It's filled with melodrama certainly, but the sheer contrivance of it made it hard for it to resonate as pathos. It's clear that the family is there because it's time for the fight to end.

Because, honestly, what made that family special? All the other billions of people Zod had endangered, the hundreds if not thousands that had been injured and killed at that point, what's four more? Not even four more with names. a stock footage set of extras. Were they even credited? At least make use of Lois' ability to teleport and make her be the one in danger.

This isn't a problem. They introduced and fleshed the issue out more than enough. The movie is about Clark.

>Because, honestly, what made that family special?
Absolutely nothing. That was the point. Zod hadn't been actively killing civilians during his fight with Clark; Clark tried his best to keep the fight centered around him. The family was a reminder of the consequences of the fight. They were a stand in for the thousands of corpses, being burned to ashes in front of his own eyes.
Zod's response of "Never." displays an awful finality; there is no other way out. Families like this have died in the hundreds and thousands, and they will continue to die unless Zod was put down.

>what's four more?
You really, really, don't get the point of the scene.
>Not even four more with names. a stock footage set of extras. Were they even credited? At least make use of Lois' ability to teleport and make her be the one in danger.
Holy shit dude, you really have absolutely no understanding of the scene's purpose. The point is that they're nameless. They represented every man, woman, and child killed because of Zod.
Having Lois replace them is one of the stupidest decisions anyone could ever make.
It's evident that you either didn't watch, or misunderstood the entire movie. Pay attention next time around.
>>
>>80973738
If you carry these ways of thinking into your real life, you've got some fucked up logic and issues. Just because a good few died doesnt mean you throw the rest who survive to the fire. And the identiy thing, it is a huge risk. Superman just wants to be a dude and bonk Lois and love his mom, cant do any of that if people who want to kill you can find you on facebook.
>>
>>80973890
You seem to be confusing misunderstanding with disagreement. I get what they were going for. I disagree that it was accomplished.
I disagree that the issue was fleshed out. I think it was introduced certainly, but then they do nothing with it. Lois becomes the symbol of "You can totes trust humanity" Clark, rather than what she is' a singular exception for the purposes of plot contrivance.

The fact that this Clark gives Zod so many chances just feels naive. Did he really have to get to that point to realize "holy shit this guy is a rabid dog that needs to be put down? Because it was pretty obvious like 40 minures BEFORE that one family. This isn't the silver age lighthearted "I see the best in everyone no matter how stupid it makes me look" Clark, remember? This was supposed to be one that's spent a good 30 years being suspicious of people and thinking they might hurt hum or his loved ones. This is AFTER Zod and his goons attacked his mother, and STILL I'm supposed to believe that this Clark shouldn't be going for blood?

It's because they tried having it both ways. They wanted perfect savior Clark but also one that's more grounded. A grounded hero can't afford that kind of naivety. By the time that family gets there, I just don't care anymore. Becuse, as I said, they're clearly there to force the ending to happen. Otherwise, as you and other anons have said countless times before, the fight would've dragged on even longer.

I GET that the fight could've dragged on forever. That's my problem. It was ALREADY TOO LONG.
