It's weird how once you see the original Sentai series, it's hard to go back to Power Rangers. Like, it's okay in its own right, but the tones of the two are radically different. It would be like taking scenes from Family Guy and remixing them into some kind of edgy action show.

PR is a long running continuity so it'd be more like taking a western comic like batman and making a new story on it like a film.

The fact that they feel the need to keep on doing MMPR over and over again to get nostalgia fags' money really shows how irreverent Power Rangers has become compared to how big it was in the 90s.

Like hell I like the concept, you can do some good stories with it. But retreading MMPR just holds it back. You could do any other season or even use designs from a Sentai series that was never used in Power Rangers to make a new PR team. That'd probably be best since it'd have more room to do its own thing.

Mix and match and don't be afraid to take inspiration from Zyuranger as well as MMPR, hell all of PR and Sentai. I know there very different stories but if you're going to deepen the lore take from other places, add more Rangers if you want, swap out team members, re-adapt in a modern time as opposed to being stuck in the 90's, set it in its own continuity ala Transformers and Turtles adaptations, just don't let nostalgia/continuity boners hold over everything.

This could be the IDW Turtles/TMNT of PR, adaptations that take the best from everywhere and add there own twist, but they need to let it have some freedom and nail the tone.

Really the only real continuity I'd say is MMPR to whatever series was after In Space since I remember them stealing the ship from that season for some reason.

The only real connection beyond that is the single cross over episode each season. If it wasn't for that you could just say each season was its own universe with no connection to anything else, you could even remove most if not all the cross over episodes and each season is not affected at all.

I think the anon worded it poorly (which he admits) but this. The first season of Super Sentai were their own things for a long time but BFJ really boosted interest that they decided to make it a yearly thing with giant robots instead of just an air craft. At that time Japanese tv was just putting shit on to see it worked or not. Like Kamen Rider was a huge gamble that no one knew would take off. So Marvel had a very small hand in the grand scheme but not enough to give too much credit.

You don't even have to try hard to make Jem relevant. At it's core, the story is about carreer women in rival rock bands, their interpersonal relationships and the trials they go throug making it as artists and celebrities. When was the last time you have seen anything like that? Yeah, I thought so.

The science fiction elements, the stories about identity, the musical segments, the whole thing being a period piece: that was just icing on top of the empowerment cake.

Forget the art and character design, forget the superhero-ish elements, forget even that Jem was a jukebox musical with nothing but original songs (the only such production of its kind): Jem worked back then, and in fact still works to this day, and in fact will work 'till he end of time, and furthermore people will LOVE Jem 'till the end of time, because not only was it the most feminist television production in american television history, it also had one of the best, most diverse, most interesting cast of characters ever in an animated series.

THAT is what the new Jem comic works with that makes it genuinly successful and popular and great in its own right, and it is also what that abomination of a movie completely neglected.

There is abslutely nothing wrong with modernizing Jem, with keeping Jem contemporary, you just have to put effort into it. The comic does.

Dino Charge's cooresponding sentai, Kyoryuger had a huge crossover movie with Go-Busters, the sentai that got skipped. It was really a huge 3 way between MMPR (Zyuranger), DinoThunder (AbaRanger), and Kyoryuger (Dino Charge).

There was a villain that was basically Zeltrax's upgraded form in the Sentai, but they're making him a new villain entirely, Sledge.

So unless people actually come back, there's no connection. Well, maybe some shit about gems giving powers but that's stretching it.
