Alright Anons put a $5 or less item on your lists, the why will become obvious soon
Once more, with feeling:
For those of you who weren't here the last couple of years, I did various Christmas contests and would gift someone who I arbitrarily chose as the winner. I intend to keep that tradition alive this year.
I decided to get started with a (relatively) big challenge: Write a Christmas story featuring /co/ characters. Maybe Lex Luthor decides he hates Santa because he challenges human superiority. Maybe the Flash has to sub in for Santa one night and deliver presents around the world (has that been done? That must have been done before). It doesn't have to be long, just something short and simple, but the more Christmas special-y the better. If you're a drawfag and want to draw it out instead, that's fine too.
Send your submissions to [email protected]. Or you can post them in the thread, but just make sure I see them. I'll give everyone until Sunday afternoon to put something together, so don't feel rushed. At the end I'll share them with the thread and crown a winner. Make sure to include your wishlist with your submission. This is still my favorite /co/ holiday picture. I don't know why it cracks me up so much every time.
Can someone explain to me what this whole "Chris Miss" thing is?
In as whimsical a way as possible?

I just finished reading volume 2 of Flash last night, which I'd been working through off and on all year. He really elevated to one of my favorite heroes. What a great character with some really great arcs.
Hey awesome christmas thread, just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow night, due to popular demand and my own sadomasochism, I'm going to be re-running TITANS: VILLAINS FOR HIRE as a storytime of pain. It's a memorable trainwreck continuing on the wonderful plot threads from Rise of Arsenal. 7 PM CST, here, on /co/.
TVW7WISDYXRS
Accidentally posted this in the old thread. WHOOPS.
This is my first time running a contest in here so let's see how this goes.
SO I really love Christmas songs, but I don't know about you guys but I get REALLY SICK of hearing the same goddamn songs over and over again on these radio stations around the holidays. So I sat down and recorded some more obscure Christmas carols and hymns and want to see how many you guys recognize.

Great piano playing, though.
>>77914679
The PS2 Ateliers work fine; Annie DS is also an option, and the PS3/Vita titles are hella cheap.
If Gust's Ar Tonelico games are uncomfortably lewd (but still decent or better), Atelier is pure as fresh snow.
Also since it's been a few threads.36N04QFZXGDAK
>>77914750
It doesn't help that a lot of Christmas music sounds similar anyways.
>>77914679
Persona is really different from it IMO. I'm honestly not that into JRPGs. The ones I've played are probably:
Shenmue
Shenmue 2
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Persona 4 Golden
Pokemon series (if it counts)
>>77914761
I have zero PS3 or Vita, but a DS game that could be had cheaply is relevant to my interests. I kind of assumed that the PS2 games were OOP and obscenely overpriced
Hellboy and christmas go together like peanut butter and marshmallow fluffI miss storytiming hellboy, the chronological storytimes were the best thing ever.
>>77914809
Several of the songs I have in my Christmas hymn repertoire of the "hey let's take another older song and slap new lyrics on top of the tune".For those of you stuck on the fourth song, you can consider that a hint.
>>77914811
Oops, forgot Nier and Dark Souls, but I haven't completed either.
>>77914844
It's not the Huron Carol, right?
>>77914824
The DS game is rare, IIRC, but the PS2 Ateliers had a big print run and aren't unreasonable. You never know until you look, small print runs are typically the scary ones.
>>77914878
Nope. The tune is traditionally thought to be of siciilian origin, and it was a popular Marian hymn in the Catholic church before they put different English lyrics on it to make it a "Christmas" song. In fact, it's probably still more strongly associated with the original version than the Christmas version.

Be careful. It's addicting. I went a little overboard, so I'm glad to have backed off.
Kuuga was the first one I finished all the way through. That final battle was beautiful.
>>77915669
I'm pretty soft-boiled. I think most of those two-parter series wore on me pretty quickly though, except for Fourze.

Man I have good memories of watching that with my cousins. The first time was around when my parents still thought we weren't old enough to watch stuff with swearing in it and my cousins were all like "nah screw that you have to see this".
Parents weren't too happy at first to find out we watched it, but it's become a tradition to see it every Christmas when the family gets together now.

if TV has taught me anything, it's that miracles always happen to poor kids at Christmas. It happened to Tiny Tim, it happened to Charlie Brown, it happened to the Smurfs, and it's gonna happen to us.

>>77915858
Gets you in the holiday spirit.
>>77915849
Oh hell yes, Hitman!
What did you guys think of the All-Star Section 8 conclusion yesterday? I'm frankly quite sad it's over but just remembering the end of Dogwelder II's story sends me into fits of morbid giggling still.
>>77915888
I remember the year my brother and I got bikes and like the entire line of Ronin Warriors figures. That Christmas was doooooope.
>>77915888
When I was four I got a pillow in the shape of a dog.

>Ronin Warriors
FUCK I JUST REMEMBERED RONIN WARRIORS AFTER LITERAL DECADES
What are those guys doing with their arms? Is that a thing?
>>77915895
Shit. Dogwelder's gonna weld. I liked the previous issues with bimbo Wondy and the short gags like the mention of Karl Rayner, racist Batman, etc. The conclusion was just depressing.
>>77915912
Smithers and Mister Burns?

The Yamaha digital piano keyboard I'm still playing on today.
I've had the damn thing for almost 14 years now and it hasn't given up on me yet.
It was supposed to be a present for all of us kids, but I'm the only one who really committed to piano (older brother doesn't play anymore, and little brother mostly plays the guitar now) so I inherited it when I moved out into my own place.
>>77915888
My parents love to tell a story about how there was this Power Rangers toy when I was a kid that I really wanted and they couldn't find it, and couldn't find it, and they kept going searching, and they were terrified it was going to ruin Christmas forever for me, but then my dad found it like the weekend before Christmas.
I don't really remember it, but I'm touched by the story. It also makes me wonder the lengths I'd go to get gifts for my kids, if I ever have any. I'm curious to hear Professor Zum or any other /co/ parents' thoughts on this.
>>77915963
Trying to wrap their arms around their heads and touch their noses.

Well, Sixpack did get to relive good moments with the team and remember that he's a hero. But in the end, he's still gone. That's a bummer.

When I was 10, I was crazy into Lord of the Rings, and asked for anything related to Gandalf. Christmas came, and I tore through my presents, finding no Gandalf themed presents. the "little shit" attitude was welling in me, but I'd accepted...Just at the very end, my mom pulls the old last present from behind the couch move. Box is about 6 ft long by 1 ft high. Excitedly I tear through it.
Let me say at this point the most expensive present I'd ever gotten was a PS1.
In the box, lies Glamdring, the sword of Gandalf from the Kings collection, a 300$ sword.
Nothing will ever match the joy in that nerdy little boy's heart that day.
>>77915992
Hey, I can do that!
>>77916029
Because they are drunk?
>>77916036
Holy shit I think that blows every present I've ever gotten out of the water.
Do you guys have a Santa at your mall? Mine does.
They also have this small group of musicians that play live Xmas music, it's nice.
>>77916035
That, and wasn't Sydney passed out in the cold alley?
>>77916026
PRESENTS!
>>77916062
Oh okay. I wasn't sure if it was a game or not.
>>77915716
It's a letter substitution game. You typically start by trying to figure out the easy small words, and you look at the others by looking for patterns like double consonants, etc.
>>77916070
There's always a Santa at my mall, it's pretty much the only decent-sized one within a two-hour radius around, so it gets a fair amount of traffic, especially around the holidays.
I know because I worked at the food court slinging pizzas around for four years.
>that one Christmas season when a squirrel chewed through the wires and blew out the power to the half of the mall with the food court in it
>we were the only ones who could serve food because the ovens ran on a gas pilot light
>had to feed hungry christmas shoppers with no registers to help us tally orders and no drinks other than bottled water
That was... interesting.
>>77915888
Mine will probably seem pretty strange, but I'll share. As a nerd into history and manga when I was in middle school, I was shocked when one Christmas I found a full run of Osamu Tezuka's Adolf hardcovers under the tree. One of the best series I have ever read, and as a bonus I can pretend that I'm sort of as cool as Korben Dallas.
>>77916106
Shhh.
There might be young'ins trying to solve it!
>>77916089
Superman's cape is symbolically covering him. That issue shows that his belief in heroes is gonna get him through the night....As he battles the monsters in his dreams.
Food for thought - but he had to leave the rest of Section Eight behind - because they were all self destructive

It's on for next time Hank.
I'VE MADE AN EXCEL ALPHABET SHEET TO EXPEDITE MY TRANSLATION!
Can you make a harder one so I can practice?
>>77915888
Hoo boy, that's a toughie... i remember one year I got a toy castle with some Gargoyles action figures. That was a good Christmas. That might've been the last year my parents were still married, but it was still a good year.Another year, I got a Nintendo 64 with Mario Party, Bartok the Magnificent and six Beanie Babies, which I cherished. I think the beanie banies were an orangutan, a lion, a parrot, a mallard, a bison and a komodo dragon.
>>77915888
Here's another one that's not really a 'favorite surprise', but one year for Christmas my grandma gave me a block of wood and my brother a rock. She gave us other things too, but those were legitimate presents we received. She laughed her ass off when we opened them.
>>77916163
That's why I didn't give it away ;)
>>77915888
One year my aunt gave me a present, when I see the box I feel disappointed because the gift is a pair of boots, I open the box and... Final Fantasy IX, the game I wanted to play the most, was there. To this day FFIX is my favourite videogame.
Well, it's 5AM on Spain and the game awards thing already ended, so time to hit the bed. Good day/night everyone!
>>77916181
It wasn't so bad, it wasn't at peak hours and a lot of people left with the power out, so major crisis averted.

I think Ronin Warriors is why I found my very first yaoi fanfic online.

It was a Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets "Chamber of Secrets" Lego set, if I'm correct.
The old lego sets were cool, since each one could be stacked to make a full Hogwarts if you had the money. My family didn't, but I had the lowest building point, so I thought I could someday.
>>77916206

>>77915940
Wait, I just realized I'm wrong, I do remember something. I was originally thinking I got it in the summer for my birthday, but I actually got it for Hanukkah. It was a Super Nintendo. Holy shit, that made me happy. So happy I still fucking have it. Now I have 2, but that's short a story for another day.
>>77916262
I love gas. It's the best.
>>77916166

I mostly saw them not lacking motivation to be a hero like six-pack.
>>77916323
Are prizes only for ungifted anons or are others allowed to jump in on the party?
>>77916370
Contests, riddles, and the like are open to everyone.
>>77916347
Pretty cozy.
And well yeah - but when it's revealed that they're just figments of Sixpack'a imagination you see more in them.
Grapplah and Power Tool literally kill themselves, in that bar, maybe being the side of Sixpack that will always want to drink.
Dogwelder 2 forsakes normal life for his own addiction as well.
By casting them off, Sixpack casts off what they represent. But it's a double whammy because at the end of the day friends can only take you so far - you have to believe in yourself.
So he goes solo. Ennis is neat.

>I'm curious to hear Professor Zum or any other /co/ parents' thoughts on this.
A few months prior to my daughter's first birthday in December, my wife and I began reading bedtime stories to her. My wife lost her mother to cancer when she was very young and doesn't have many memories of her, but she recalled a children's book she would read to her involving an Inuit mother telling her child how much she loved her. She couldn't recall the title, but she was determined to find the book for our daughter. She searched online for days to no avail, completely unaware that I was doing the same after she'd gone to bed for some weeks after she'd given up.
Finally, I discovered the title of the book was "Mama, Do You Love Me?" and called every bookstore in the area until I found a copy. She knew nothing of it until she unwrapped a gift addressed to both she and my daughter on Christmas. She broke down crying and hugged me, before stopping in the middle of our opening presents to read it to our daughter.

I am supremely sorry that I don't know the answer to your question anon, but that Mary Marvel art is gorgeous and I had to register my satisfaction.
Christmas Cocktails
.5 oz vodka
.5 oz Campari
.5 oz Cointreau
1 oz OJ
2 oz cranberry juice
3 oz Prosecco
Pour over ice in highball glass, stir. Garnish with basil.
.5 oz bourbon
.5 oz port
.5 oz lemon juice
.5 oz simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
Pour over ice in wine glass. Top off with sparkling wine. Garnish with lemon twist and vanilla bean.
>>77920137
To make the latter for a group of people, use a half cup of each rather than a half ounce.
And 4 dashes of bitters.
Make it in a bowl, top with 4 cups sparkling wine.
And for those who don't know, simple syrup is equal parts boiling water and sugar.
Now go drink yourself full of Christmas cheer.

Thanks just the same, Danny Boy. This would've been applicable, but I'm still awake because, now that my son's feeling better, my daughter seems to have caught his stomach bug. She's been watching Curious George cartoons between bouts of sickness and has only finally nodded off.

Speaking of Curious George... As a matter of fact, I found a hardcover copy for $2 in the Half-Price Books bargain bin that was just missing its dust jacket back in Ohio.
She absolutely adores Curious George, which I find humorous because the first book I ever bought after finding out that we were having a baby was a yellow hardcover collection of newer stories. Since then, we've also picked up the subsequent red and blue hardcovers in the series as well. With those and the complete collection of older stories, I think she's got everything but a book I once saw called Curious George & Friends, which collects Margaret and H.A. Rey's other animal-themed stories.

I'm excited! I'll get living allowance two days before that, but I have to take most of it out because I'm saving for a trip to Japan, but if I can muster anything I'll sure as hell buy some presents too.
