You know what, /co/? I honestly love the christmas threads.
For eleven months of the year it's thr usual hijinks and I wouldn't miss that for the world, but then we get a series of threads at the end of the year where we all put aside our differences and come together over puzzles, anecdotes, comics and just general cheer. It's so nice to see the hate train just put the brakes on for a little while.
on a side note, are there any drawfriends in this thread? I'm interested in starting a webcomic and if anybody's interested I'll gladly hash out the details.
> these fucking riddles
What do the numbers mean Mason? WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN?!
I have to go to college and I still haven't finished The Riddler's challenge...
Can someone repost the Riddler's challenge? I wasn't in the last thread and my phone wont co-operate.

>>77902589
Yeah, couple threads ago.
Hey anons, my little brother is getting into comics right now. Watched the Daredevil netflix show and enjoyed it. Any recommendations on runs? I haven't read much Daredevil myself, but I understand Bendis' run is pretty good, but that's all I know. Any help is appreciated.
>>77903510
Frank Millers stuff of course, The recent runs (Waid?), I'm sure there are some good minis out there. Daredevil: Yellow and Daredevil: Season One were okay
>>77903510
Personally I recommend reading the whole shebang because DD is in a unique spot of always being just popular enough to get renewed, but not so popular that editorial pushes mandates down it's throat. That being said if you want contained runs you can check out when Frank took over (huge shift), the return of Karen (pretty dark considering her origins), and then you can progress to Bendis' stuff all the way to current.
Jesus, I go to bed and work and these threads are flying along! Nice to see Riddler doing his thing this year.
Love this time of year on /co/! I'm on lunch so I can't story time anything but wanted to say I love all of you and when I get off work I'm gonna bend this thread over, story time wise

>>77901261
sorry for the ridiculous delay in response. I posted that at work.
the details are as follows:
the comic would follow the four-kid crew of Starcat, a mysteriously deserted, 100+ year old spaceship and their efforts to get home with an overarching mystery regarding what wiped out Starcat's crew, why they're on a spaceship so old why they're even there to begin with.
the crew are:
Bianca:
The eldest of the group and the effective captain. She makes it her duty to look after the others and control Starcat back to Earth. In spite of the respect her crew gives her, Bianca often feels the pressure of being captain all too sharply and occasionally has her confidence fail on her. part of her running character arc would be that she becomes a strong and confident leader.
Bianca is a relatively tall ginger-haired girl of about 16. she has a little spattering of freckles and small glasses. her default outfit would be based around a red coat
Craig:
Craig looks after Starcat's computer systems and reports directly to Bianca. He is the only one of the four to have access to the ship's computer in an administrative capacity.
As well as helping Bianca make hard calls and helping to get Starcat back on track, Craig is the most acutely interested in what happened on the ship. This often brings him into conflict with Ben and Bianca, but Craig is determined to unravel all the mysteries.
Craig is a relatively scraggly albino kid. He is 14 and his default outfit is based on an aviator's jacket and rough trousers.
Ben:
Ben is the closest thing Starcat has to an engineer.
He can often be found fixing the many problems with Starcat and keeping the engine in tip-top shape.
He is vital to the team's successful arrival on earth because of his extensive knowledge of all the mechanical systems and the safe operating limits of the massive rocket that powers Starcat.
Ben is the same age as Craig but far more forthright. He is also the most irritable.
cont.
>>77904449
continued:
Ben's outfit is a set of messy overalls.
Esther:
The youngest of the crew, 12 year old Esther is the communications and sensors officer aboard Starcat.
Esther possesses an incredibly sunny personality and will offer her support to any of the crew, irrespective of any tensions that might arise between the others. Esther is also the only one that Bianca feels she can be completely honest with, although she feels conflicted about sharing her woes with such a young and cheerful girl.
Esther also shares Craig's interest in the murky past of Starcat and often helps him with his investigations.
Esther is of Idian/Afghan extraction but speaks perfect english. her outfit is based around grubby t-shirts and casual clothes.
other details:
Starcat itself is a massive spaceship, comprised of two large hulls (hence the "cat" part of the name) connected by a single, central wing that also bears the single rocket that powers it through space.
Throughout the storyline, it is revealed that they are being followed by a stealth battleship, called USS Gemini, privately owned by the Aurora corporation, who are responsible for their being left on Starcat. The crew are part of a "control" group involved in testing expendable clone humans used to take spaceships home in the event that the crew gets wiped out. They were never supposed to survive and in the last few episodes of the comic, the crew of Starcat would get taken aboard Gemini for the grand finale.
>>77904231
Honestly I wouldn't start him with Miller's stuff. For newer comic readers I think Bendis or Waid are the way to go.
>>77905513
I feel like Waid is a great place to start.
It all comes across as very crisp and clean and on point and fun, and just amazing Daredevil.

So /co/ just to get a discussion going, what was your first secret santa gift from here?
For me, I was having a terrible December with illnesses in the family some years back. I had been on a short fuse for months and the girlfriend was trying to relax me whenever I got in, encouraging me to relax but I couldn't turn the brain off. She handed me a package and I didn't remember ordering anything.
In there was a copy of The Book Thief, with a message on the slip inside. I was stunned and she said "what is it?". It's strange. I was focused on all the negativity, thinking I had to push myself harder to 'fix' things. Work became depressing but I had to push myself through. I have a chronic illness and was being pushed out the door for it.
I smiled and looked at the girlfriend and this will sound so fucking stupid... but it put things into perspective. Somebody made the effort to do that, not knowing what it would mean. It was a random act of kindness. And it's nice to know that good people are out there.
The following couple of years, I left my job. I worked somewhere that valued me and paid me accordingly. Ever since, when Secret Santa threads came about, I gave a little back. I wanted to invoke that feeling in others. I don't namefag it up during the year, but I see the people who contribute and do storytimes. sometimes when we feel shitty, a comic dump can cheeer us up. It was important to me to pass that feeling on. So I do.
/co/ is love in every sense of the word. Merry Christmas all.

Yes! It was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to your next riddles even though I won't submit another list. The challenge itself will be enjoyable. I can hear you groaning already, so without further ado:
4. This was the most fun puzzle, and the most rewarding to solve. I'm pretty sure I'd heard what song this was from some other trivia location, and at first I thought the numbers would correspond to the first of each line, not the real solution.
1. It was cute using /co/ itself as a part of the riddle. It was also the longest to solve, but once I figured out the trend it helped a lot in figuring out how the other riddles were structured.
3. Music! I was in band a few years ago, so this one really brought me back.
5. The answer was in the lyrics from song #4, which was cool. Took a bit of random guessing though.
2. I love picture puzzles, but this one was A) pretty easy, and B) only really solvable if you knew the roygbiv thing, which some anons might not have.

>>77908905
Oh I've seen it, and seen it, and seen it. Loved it, my only issue is that it doesn't leave much to the imagination. We can all guess what's gunna happen in the movie now but I'm still beyond excited!
>>77908885
thank you kind spongeanon I wll remove myself from the ungiftedlist.... though I can't promise I won't post my wishlist in other threads.
>>77908996
Well I can agree that we can kinda piece together an idea of the movie but I'm more curious why there's soldiers with supe's logo
>>77908968
At least it's not another origin movie.
>>77909041
nope, just a complete shit show with lex luthor who is a complete clown and zombie zod turning into doomsday. at least it can't get anymore retarded than that.
>>77908996
I'm hoping that Doomsday gets like a lot of spikes.
Like...at least the iconic ones.
>>77908905
>So Lex Luthor is demoted to comic foil?
This has been "Literally my only complaint", join us again next week.
>>77909110
The design I'm not 100% sold on but Doomsday is just such an non-character that I don't mind. I want the pony tail at least but I think that's a little less likely than more spikes even.
>>77909041
I guess it's not 100% confirmed technically, but that whole part is supposed to be a dream sequence.
>>77908413
Well now that I see how it's done, I want to cry.
>>77909213
Why's that Anon
>>77909185
Doomsday is a non character.
But I first encountered him as a lil' kid and gosh them spikes have looked cool.
Although too many looks shit.
>>77909185
oh, like what bats sees the world can turn into... could be. There is an interesting theory that jared leto's joker is actually a mindwashed robin.
>>77909313
>interesting theory
Always felt that was on the same level as the "Ben Affleck is Deathstroke" theory
>>77909232
Just seeing how I wasn't even close, and how much harder I'll have to think about things for the next one of these things.
>>77909313
I really hope the Joker theory ain't true. I was pretty bummed about how Harley looks too. It's a shame we'll never her see her in Harlequin again.
>>77909338
Hindsight is always 20/20. Don't worry having a different thought process isn't a bad thing.
No chance of getting anything knowing my luck, but here we go:

>>77909357
Yeah that's a shame, but I always preferred The Trickster's Prank myself.
It was a shame she was never placed into comics like Harley was.
That said....I'm only gonna watch that for Digger
>>77909328
I hadn't heard that one before. But there is a scene with Bats holding a large rifle so who knows how far he may fall.
>>77909357
I think it will pop up again in the future, but probably more for a cameo like as a onesie pajama
>>77909392
>holding a large rifle
I thought we'd foxed out that it was his grenade launcher...which on the "Bats shoots things" scale...is pretty standard
>>77909392
>a large rifle
It's apparently a grenade launcher.
Which is different.
>>77909392
I just don't even know what's happening with Harley these days. Nothing I've read about her recent stuff sounds good. Injustice was a least funny with her.
>>77909382
>Prank
Hmm I thought I saw her somewhere, but I might just be thinking of a cartoon that had her.
I'm feeling kind of down today, /co/. My Christmas cheer is losing. How are you guys doing?
And repostan again:
For those of you who weren't here the last couple of years, I did various Christmas contests and would gift someone who I arbitrarily chose as the winner. I intend to keep that tradition alive this year.
I decided to get started with a (relatively) big challenge: Write a Christmas story featuring /co/ characters. Maybe Lex Luthor decides he hates Santa because he challenges human superiority. Maybe the Flash has to sub in for Santa one night and deliver presents around the world (has that been done? That must have been done before). It doesn't have to be long, just something short and simple, but the more Christmas special-y the better. If you're a drawfag and want to draw it out instead, that's fine too.
Send your submissions to [email protected]. Or you can post them in the thread, but just make sure I see them. I'll give everyone until the weekend to put something together, so don't feel rushed. At the end I'll share them with the thread and crown a winner. Make sure to include your wishlist with your submission.
>>77909436
I mean, as far as I know she's only in the 90's Flash show.
But...I think she'd as easy a fit.
Easier even, since her character would slide in well with the more adrenaline idiot Axel
Man, that batman noel storytime was really cool, I was thinking of gifting something for christmas to the friend who got me interested in comics and now I know what.
Leaving my list: 2SSADKFWV7R4Q .es

No real word limit. I guess I'll probably close it out on Sunday? Only gotten one submission so far. My plan is to just drop them all on a Pastebin or Google Site and have everyone in these threads pick their favorite.

>>77909646
Neat, I put Pyongyang in my wishlist on a whim
Has anyone gotten their gifts yet?
>>77909480
Man, I always feel kind of bad when this sort of thing occurs, because I'm not really good at writing fan fiction unless it's Doctor Who for whatever reason. I probably won't enter because of this (unless I manage to think of anything or Doctor Who was miraculously allowed), but best of luck to whoever does.

>>77909812
Ha, thanks! I think the solution to today's doldrums is to gift an anon, so it's off to the wishlists.
Is there any way to check shipping time estimates without spoiling what the gift is?

I hope the anon I bought for posts pics
I had to buy from one of the 3rd parties.

>>77910384
I'd imagine it wouldn't make much difference anyway. I am only going on a hunch, but I expect most people either gift right from the Pastebin or through whatever contests they concoct anyway. Might be wrong though.
>>77910413
Either the pastebin or posts in thread, depending on my whim.
>>77910413
I like to look at them as I come across them in the threads actually, which is why I support the once per thread rule. A number of people wait a couple threads anyway so it's all good.
>>77910157
Haha yeah sorry its just that i liked batman/capeshit as a kid and wanted to get back into it, OPM just looks funny.

Heres a question, whats the one christmas special that always creeps into your memories? It doesnt have to be a good one or your favourite. For some reason The Nanny christmas special always follows me around, I've ended up watching it way too many times.
>>77906415
My first gift was the dvd boxset of Round The Twist that I got last year. It wasn't even on my wishlist but because of a conversation some kind anon bought it for me.
>>77908454
I've gifted 18 anons this year, I might actually be hogging all the gifting cheer from people. Not trying to have a dick measuring contest.
>>77910706
I'm funnin' ya, but check out the OPM anime too, if it turns out you like it. It's been good so far.
You can take me off the ungifted list2OXKTSCJES7NB
I honestly wasn't expecting anything, and was very confused by the package when I got home. The Redwall cookbook is not just an illustrated recipe set by the way. It's actually an illustrated story at the same time!
I can't wait to make everything! Thank you Australianon, and merry Christmas to you too. I'll make sure to at least put something in my oven if I'm going set it on fire.

Last year I just stuck mine in here, never expecting anything, and didn't get anyone anything.
Then, a few weeks after I stopped seeing these threads, I get a package with the first ever Omnibus I had ever gotten. I felt like such a piece of shit.
>>77910795
Damn, I completely forgot to check amazon ca. I didn't realize how quickly those were shipping. I'm glad you like it. I had no idea its also a story.
>>77910840
Yeah, it kind of sucks people do that. That's probably why I find myself wanting to gift so many people, everyone deserves something, even if its small. I'll slow down for the next couple threads, other anons might be getting their gifts and deciding to pay it forward.
>>77910968

but... but... the double deadly dick...
But no, SDU as been frontlining the gift giving this season. 18 gifts (out of the 49 given at this point) in 7 days.
>>77910795
huh... I should have caught that before but Amazon had that purchase hidden under an older purchase so I didn't scroll down and see it. Congrats though.
>>77911029
I wouldn't count on that. There was just an anon who blantantly said he got gifted books but didn't send anyone anything.
I wish we had a different system for our secret santas to avoid that but oh well I guess.
>>77910891
I'm in secret santa exchanges on 3 different boards and went well above the call on all of them, if I had known this amazon exchange stuff was a thing too I'd have probably scaled back a little and spread the gifting out more evenly, I have to renew my license and my passport almost simultaneously this month on top of it all so I'm really getting a big chunk of cash torn away this month.
I'm assuming there'll still be access to wishlists after christmas? If I'm allowed to hold off until my next check comes in I'll probably gift a few things in the new year.
>>77910732
The Community christmas special Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas is my favourite episode of the show, so that's always in the back of my mind.
>>77910732
>18 gifted so far
Daaaang, props to you. And also hahaha The Nanny? I haven't seen that show in ages.
Trying to think of a tv chrismas special the first one that comes to mind is the Full House one where they are stuck at the airport.
>>77910840
That's always going to happen unfortunately, but I like to this as the years go by more people stick around.
>>77910732

Not a special, but "Scrooged"
Put a little love in your heart.
>>77908648
>the anger Nick would have
Don't you mean... Fury?
>>77911130
To me that's the "best" Christmas special by far, in the sense that it's just a really amazing episode of the show that uses the Christmas cleverly instead of just a generic "Hey it's Christmas" episode.
>>77911123
yea the lists are always up, the 2013 and 2014 are still up, and I do one final filtering of the ungifted list at the beginning of January.
>>77910760
I've heard good things about the anime, Only thing i even know about OPM is that he is used for reaction images a lot and he wore a oppai shirt.
I'll make sure to check it out though when i can get around to it.
again merry Christmas i hope you get all you want this holly jolly month!
Steve Lieber just posted this on twitter and I think it's the tightest shit.Already bought the first two TPB's a while ago, can't wait for that Superioer Foes Omnibus to come out. Didn't put the latter on my wishlist because I'd feel weird about a pre-order being on there.
>>77910732
I don't know if it's a Christmas 'special' but the MST3K episode of Santa Claus Conquerors the Martians will always find a place in my brain to be lodged into.

there's an option of not ruining the surprise that may have the purchase hidden for you, otherwise if someone you know locally marked it as getting it else where it might hide it like that.

And I got nothing.
Fuck this shitty secret santa nonsense.
>>77911551

Only on page 3 and nobody is hankering to do a storytime.

Yes please friend.

Miller, Nocenti, Waid
This is my first time running a contest in here so let's see how this goes.
SO I really love Christmas songs, but I don't know about you guys but I get REALLY SICK of hearing the same goddamn songs over and over again on these radio stations around the holidays. So I sat down and recorded some more obscure Christmas carols and hymns and want to see how many you guys recognize.
GUESS ALL FOUR SONGS CORRECTLY AND WIN A FABULOUS PRIZE! (max $$$ limit of 40 dollars)

(It WAS going to be five songs, but fuck me that last one is proving a lot more difficult to play than I anticipated.)
