I didn't think that Civil War could look that bad but holy shit. It's looks so safe and boring.

This. At best we'll get an entertaining movie. This just looks like the standard Marvel assembly line stuff we've seen time and time again.

Oh and let me guess the trailers for the movie will be dark but the really movie will be a disjointed mess that has difficulty balancing humour and seriousness.
>>
>>77721486
>the amount of /tv/ crossboarders is the highest its ever been
please... just go back
>>
>>77721486
It looks fucking amazing
>>
>>77721728
The only cool stuff was the Tony/Steve stuff. The rest seemed mediocre. Also there was something about the trailer that made it seem very TV. Not the CG or anything, just felt like sub-standard direction, lighting, etc…
>>
>>77721814
I'm sure that's what you thought about Winter Soldier, too. I trust the Russos with Cap. They're good people.
>>
It's a Marvel movie. What did you think this would end up being like? Even Winter Soldier despite being the best movie they've made is still rather generic.
>>
>>77721486
Why does Snyder always have to use his shitty filters? Look at this shit, where's the fucking color? It's like they are ashamed of making superhero movies.
>>
>>77721486
>Tony thinks being a government puppet is being a hero
>Cap thinks being on your own is being a hero
A hero does what's right whenever he can. He is incorruptible because he works for nothing but the good and justice as a concept, not a system. All governments are fundamentally flawed and filled with vile individuals, hence the need for an educated and armed populace. Tony's idea of a government-owned hero is wrong because if you have others pulling the strings, you're fighting their battles when they see fit. That's not heroism, that's just a super-powered cop. Cap has the right idea. By working on his own, he assures his decisions are his own. As long as he has the well being of the community at heart, he can perform the actions a hero must take, even those at the disinterest of the government and the justice system. The fact that Cap is also the vision of a perfect America helps too by cementing his incorruptible spirit.

>>

There's a difference between filming dark things and putting an actual filter on literally everything to make it darker than it is.
>>
>>77721486
From the trailer it seems like it's either going to be much smaller in scale than the event or bleed into the next movie. Spider-man maybe?
>>
>>77723111

I'm not moving shit. That still looks dull as fuck. The fact that you think it's colorful is laughable
>>
>>77723118
It can be a solid 5v5 or so.
The real question is "Will Spiderman acknowledge the other New York heroes like Daredevil, Punisher, and Jessica Jones?"
>>
>>77723053
>>77721486
Seriously? Cap 2 was the most influential movie last Phase. SHIELD gone, Hydra back. SHIELD only got rebuilt through the show and is going top secret again. How does this look "safe?" It's the first footage we've seen from the movie. You have no clue what's going to happen or if anyone will die to stop the fighting. You don't know if Cap will end up arrested in the end or what. How in the fuck can you make a claim like this?
>>
>>77723162

>"Will Spiderman acknowledge the other New York heroes like Daredevil, Punisher, and Jessica Jones?"

lol no

>>
>>77723182
>You don't know if Cap will end up arrested in the end or what. How in the fuck can you make a claim like this?

>Shield gone

yeah, nah. Came back in AoU as if nothing had happened

It looks "safe" because we know Marvel isn't going to kill any of it's big stars before Infinisty War
>>
Yeah I'd hyped for Civil War if Marvel didn't already use the Heroes fighting Heroes crutch in every Avenger movie already. Fuck this creatively bankrupt company and fuck you all or eating this shit up
>>
>>77723310
>SHIELD came back in AoU as if nothing had happened
Apparently you missed the part where I said it was rebuilt through THE SHOW. It wasn't as if nothing had happened if you actually explore the expanded universe.

>Marvel isn't going to kill any of it's big stars

Well obviously from a writer's standpoint most of the characters won't be killed off. By process of elimination, though, Black Widow COULD end up dead.

>>77723384
To be fair, the impact was different those times. Avengers 1 had a "first meeting" fight. Avengers 2 had a "hulk gone crazy" fight and was building up TO Civil War with the interactions between Cap and Tony. Ant-Man had a "misunderstanding" fight. Civil War isn't a first meeting or someone under control or a misunderstanding. It is straight up two sides in disagreement going at it.

>fuck you all for eating this shit up

Fuck you for being a jaded asshole who can't have fun.

Feeling excitement for watching heroes and friends fracture and fall apart. It's not a good thing for them, but it's entertaining for us as the audience. So yes, FUN. Cap's costume is basically perfect. Falcon could be more vivid but it's better than his prototype look.

Scarlet Witch is red.

Hawkeye is finally in a Plum purple. They could probably go even lighter than what they at are now.

Winter Soldier wears black, makes his arm look cooler.

>The fact that you think it's colorful is laughable

They could all be wearing black-on-black Matrix trenchcoats.

Yes it looks stupid (I like it still), but it shows to never take pre-release CG as the final version since it's not done by the time they cut the first public trailer. Comic Con trailers usually look even worse which is why most of the time they aren't released to the public.
>>

To date Winter Soldier has been the only movie that lived up to the tone of its trailer. I still don't trust it but if there's any upcoming Marvel movie that will manage to be serious, it's this one.
>>
>>77723756
Clearly he's taking the age old approach of waiting until he can see the whites of their eyes to fire.
>>

The twist to Civil War is that they'll make love instead.
>>
>>77723909
She's got fuckin telekinesis, dude. Watch Chronicle or Akira
>>
>>77724154
A hero death was the big turning point in the comic. So there's a possibility of that happening in the movie. Obviously not "ANYONE" can die in this movie. If you think about it from a writer's standpoint, most of them are off-limits except for maybe 2. I'm not being naiive and saying "Iron Man might die." Don't exaggerate shit.
>>
>>77724207
Not really, she has Chaos Magic, not exactly the same thing, I don't remember a telekinetic being able to turn a giant bird made out of fire into stone.

Also, again, I don't really care about Wanda so I never really paid attention to her in the comics, she was just the hot chick who uses magic to me.
>>
>>77724209
>A hero death was the big turning point in the comic

Yeah, this is nothing like the comic. It's a bit closer than Age of Ultron was to it's namesake but the comic is a non entity
>>
>>77724209

I hope Rhodes died just so the first black guy Marvel added to the Avengers is the first to die
>>
considering that sebastian stan's contract extends for another four or five movies and that chris evan's contract is ending one movie after this, i bet cap dies and this is what causes everybody to stop fighting. marvel could easily have evans!cap be in a later movie as a flashback/ series of flashbacks that stan!cap remembers.
>>
>>77724342
OBVIOUSLY it's not like the comic. But it's clearly taking influence from it. So, as I said before, "there's a POSSIBILITY of that happening in the movie." If it isn't a hero, then maybe more civillian casualties from their fighting. Something will have to happen to snap them out of the fighting.
>>
>>77724446

Speaking as a bi-partisan, but mostly a DCfag, here is what I hope:

BvS is starting the entire franchise out with the conflict. They're getting it out of the way. They're going to forge the friendship of their three biggest heroes together, at once, in a major event. Hopefully, that means they get it out of the way, and the rest of the movies can focus on their dynamic while working together, and playing up their relationship, their strengths and their weaknesses. This is especially important for Batman and Superman, who are two sides of the same coin, and are supposed to share a deep friendship despite having such different views, although similar ideals. This is why their meeting taking place as a conflict is important, as it gives them a place to start, and a direction to grow in. Hopefully, we see their bond strengthen.

As opposed to the Avengers, who started being friends because, hey why not, we're all heroes, but never really showed their friendships based on any sort of mutual respect (for the most part). And now they're throwing non-existent relationships into turmoil, and Tony's line about being Steve's friend is almost laughable because any friendship between them was mostly implied, or merely a friendship of convenience.
>>
>>77725398

This trailer was literally just explosions and people running. It's like their entire selling point is, "Hey if you like to see things explode come watch this movie!" It's a Fast and Furious knock-off, but if that's what Marvel fans like to see then sure it was a great trailer!

I loved Winter Soldier. This movie looks like a convoluted mess and there's about a dozen more characters that weren't even shown in the trailer still to come. I'm mad that Fiege has no faith in Cap, so he had to bring in RDJ to make them more money.

I like the simple trailer in the age of overwrought slowed down covers of old songs fade to opea singing and super serious drama and stuff

But honestly, simple trailer works against this movie because it made the premise look simpler (and stupider) than Im sure it is not.

Also why show unfinished cgi? They did the same for Ultron. Stop

I actually like that it just looks like Winter Soldier 2. I don't give a shit about Civil War, I want to see a continuation of Captain America's world and story. This movie looks like that. It feels like Steve leading the Secret Avengers. He always works best with a team. I don't really like Iron Man and Spider-Man being in it, as I've seen five movies from each where they are the main character, and I'd rather see more Captain America based characters, but I do like Black Panther being in it. Black Panther and Captain America work well together because they both deal with geopolitical conflicts in their worlds.

Black Panther vs Captain America has the potential to be one of the best superhero fight scenes yet, if the Russo's have kept up with their fight filming skills.

That's not restored color as the costume was never that color to begin with, they just over saturated it because they didn't like the dark blue of his costume, which they actually brightened up for BvS. That scene where he's flying is also a very colorful sequence.

Also, washing out the destruction scene and over saturating it is just dumb. All the smoke/dust/rubble would cause it to be dark in that area. The person who did this 'recoloring' doesn't know shit about colors.

No way the excs would let the Russos work alone on their own like in the Winter Soldier. I fear this might damage the movie.
>>
>>77726678
Nolan mostly substituted extensive Batmobile scenes and gadgetry for martial arts fights with his Batman.

People give Nolan's movies a hard time now, but in and of itself his Batman is pretty cool. At least on a thematic level, no other superhero movie has been able to beat out the Dark Knight. That's the only one that has done what the true ideal of writing superhero stories is about, creating symbolic mythology that expresses a portrait of some aspect of the human experience. It had some weight and actual meaning to it.
>>
Why is everyone overwhelmingly going after Bucky in Civil War besides "MUH PLOT."

Dude was legitimately brainwashed and had his memories wiped on end after end and there are multiple people around to attest to that having happened as well as people around that saw it I'm pretty sure. He was literally a puppet of hydra and had no part in doing any of the shit he did, and even moreso someone like Tony has to understand something like that so I don't get where Tony in anyway disagrees with Cap wanting Bucky not to deal with crimes he was forced to do.

The whole plot doesn't make sense so far from what I see.

You know, Snyder still catches shit for how Watchmen turned out, but I remember him saying way back when that he agreed with people who felt that Watchmen shouldn't be filmed. That it was tied to the comic medium, perhaps inextricably. Makes sense, given how big of a fan of comics he is.

I don't rule out the possibility that he only took on Watchmen to keep it from being completely butchered by another director who may not have cared about the source material. After all, if a studio wants a movie made, they'll just keep looking for directors until somebody agrees to do it. Better for it to be in the hands of somebody who will bite the bullet and at least try to remain faithful to the source while still attempting to produce a decent movie.

He's killed some extremely significant figures in the history of the world. He wasn't just some assassin. Yeah, but that'd be like blaming Dethklok for doing all that he did to survive when he was literally being held prisoner with fear of being blown up if he didn't comply and his family getting killed.

Only difference is Bucky had no reason not to comply to Hydra because he couldn't know better because any part of his brain that could was being completely and utterly scrambled by them whereas Dethklok could have just taken death over doing the shit he did, as far as he knew they were the good guys right? His memory was in an utterstate of disarray and blaming him for the atrocities he did and not putting the blame on Hydra and all the scientists who made Bucky into what he was and kept Bucky the way he was and rather blaming the victim here is just pants on head level of retardation.

Which I get that level of retardation is basically any form of government in the MCU but still. It just seems dumb that Tony of all people supergenius wouldn't get that even with the emotional attachment to it.
>>
>>77726898

I still like Watchmen. It's the best possible adaptation we could have gotten as a movie that was at least somewhat close to the comics, whether that means it actually works as a film or not I'm not sure. It takes a huge pair of brass balls to adapt the unfilmable comic, but he did his best and I think he did a pretty good job trying to wrangle everything into an actual movie.

I don't hate Snyder. I probably wouldn't want to hang out with him considering how repugnant Sucker Punch was, but whatever, beyond that he's still a solid director.
>>
>>77726931
I just hope they stay true to the Dark Knight Returns style bone snapping style that's almost sadistic on Batman's part. I want Batman to pretty much cripple criminals for life when he catches them. He doesn't kill, but he makes sure that a criminal won't be able to even shit right for a long time I'm his life, and probably seriously reconsider what he's doing. He doesn't just tie them up and leave them for the cops like some Spider-Man bullshit. He takes them into a dark alley and snaps their elbows and knees and let's them crawl for help
>>
>>77727005
I ready know I'm going to fully side with Steve in this movie. I love that they're continuing to do the best kind of Captain America story, where he has to make himself set apart from the established authority and fight for higher ideals that put him at odds with the order of law.

Also, his stealth abilities serve to create a certain aura around him. People who have had the misfortune to encounter him rarely ever see him coming. As his legend grows, criminals on the street will constantly wonder where he is. They'll wonder if he's watching them at that very moment, and they'll always be wondering when he'll strike. That sort of all-pervasive psychological influence serves as a very effective deterrent. Unless, as you mentioned, the criminals in question are insane.

I wish all that poetic hyperbole were true. Looking back, the last two installments of the trilogy were self-indulgent navel-gazing that cared more about the overarching themes than the actual characters involved in the story. And I say that as someone who wanted to like the trilogy, but they just aren't enjoyable beyond the shallow appearance of depth everyone seems to praise Nolan for.

I think Bucky will still have some episodes where his WS programming kicks in and he goes for the mission with unrelenting lethal force.

The Airport fight seems to to end with Rhodes getting brutally savaged and I think Bucky does that with him switching to "Anti Reg are allies Pro Reg are enemies. Terminate enemies." and he tackles Rhodes out of the sky, smashes up his suit and rips the rector out.

Despite that Cap will still insist on keeping Bucky safe from the law and that's when Tony becomes completely determined to take Bucky down.

It looks like Bucky snaps against Iron Man in the later fight too which might be when Steve finally has to give in and get Bucky mental help.

Nah man, the Dark Knight has real depth that's not a shallow perception. It encapsulated the existential fear and disillusionment of post 9/11 America, with the Joker being the force embodying the harsh truth that our systems of security we rely on are a facade that can be easily turned on its head, and Batman being the embodiment of order that goes above and beyond the laws of society, with Bruce's sonar device mirroring the use of various surveillance techniques used by our government and other figures to combat these elements of chaos in the world, but can also easily be abused and turned on its own people or used to consolidate power for oneself. Nolan was expressing some poignant stuff in his story

Well they can't use the comic book because 1. They don't have enough characters. 2. Almost every hero has a public identity. 3. Shield is secret now.

Instead it seems to be work for government or you can't be a hero (and I think Steve and Sam simply quit at first and everyone is fine with that) but moves into "Also we don't have to treat powered people humanely" and they lock up Wanda and want to take no prisoners on Bucky.

PUH-LEZE. You know they're going to keep their mouths shut and let Marvel take the wheel. They ATTEMPTED to argue over the actor with Marvel, but MARVEL won in the end because they told Sony to shut the fuck up.

I exaggerated that for comedic effect, but let's be real. Sony's involvement will be so small and inconsequential now. After 3 fuck ups, they'll be happy to just get money from Marvel's success.

>>
>>77727452

Yeah, but they don't have enough young heroes to pull that off. In the comics younger heroes have a reality show, and they try to show off for the cameras and get a school (and themselves except for one guy) blown up. As a result government decides heroes need some jurisdiction and young heroes need to be trained.

Here its just the Avengers fucking up and causing a ton of collateral damage, and the government insisting they work for them to stop that. Which honestly makes more sense in the world's reaction because in comics everyone overreacted to a stupid call made by a bunch of kids, but the Avengers are supposed to know better.

Those movies aren't apart of a larger universe with connected movies. When every movie in your franchise uses the exact same trope for a conflict, it just shows a lack of creativity.
>>
>>77728041
The Codex is a macguffin.
What's sad is that it's not even a necessary one.
>>
>>77728158
Was it though? Only Zod was after it, and even then he was more concerned with killing the son of Jor-El. Superman and the humans didn't even give a shit about the Codex.
>>
>>77728137
Only about half the movies at most have had things that could arguably be called macguffins, and those are parts of the infinity gauntlet, so it makes sense they be connected.

Creativity isn't inherently a good thing. In five hours I have to start cooking thanksgiving dinner. I can follow the recipes and play it "safe" or get creative and give my family food poisoning and waste a lot of money. But hey, no one has ever tried seasoning their turkey with bleach before right? That means it's unique and daring!

>>77728267
Please stop using evidence. /co/ wants to believe that all 12 movies are exactly the same, beat-for-beat. How else would it fit their narrative?
>>
>>77728041
Macguffins are only good if they're symnolic metaphors mirroring the inner development of the hero. For example, in Lord of the Rings, the ring is the manifestation of the corruption that tempts the inner virtue of all people, and with its journey we see key figures all have their virtue tested by this force with vary thing results.

Things like the macguffin in Thor 2 are absolutely meaningless. There was no deeper thought put into what the object means symbolically in the grander context of the story
>>
>>77728184
The fact that Zod ends up more concerned about revenge and Superman and the humans don't use it or give a shit about it makes it MORE of a macguffin, not less of one. That's the thing. The shitposters throwing around the term don't seem to understand what it actually means. It just sounds good to them. A macguffin is distinctly a *throw away* plot device. To qualify, the object or goal or whatever has to be interchangable and serve no purpose; a macguffin is such because it *isn't used to impact the plot*. It's a hanging thread.

Like Unobtanium in Avatar. If you replace that with "we want their land" the movie doesn't change at all. Or if you change what object the band of thieves in a heist movie steals, you can still have a heist movie.

The Codex is the same way. If you remove that from the movie, it doesn't impact the movie at all. If anything the movie gets better.

By contrast, most of the MCU plot devices don't qualify if only because they're all parts of the infinity gauntlet, so we know they come into play and matter then.

Now, keep in mind that THE COMPLAINT IS STILL VALID. A lot of the MCU movies do seem preoccupied with "here's this plot device. We have to find it or protect it form the bad guys or get it to this place". That is true. But they're not macguffins, because that's a different thing.
>>
All MacGuffins are plot devices but not all plot devices are MacGuffins. Can we please stop using the words interchangeably?

No? That'd require effort and rain power? ...Okay.
>>
>>77728349

What the fuck do you guys expect from superhero movies? I'd seriously like to know. They are cape films. They're meant to be fun action movies. Maybe they try to have a little social commentary. No, I read that, and you missed a bunch. Thor 1 had the cube with ice powers, winter soldier had the flash drive in the beginning, and then he himself became the macguffin, aou had a few, with the infinity stone being involved with most, Avengers 1 was the biggest perpetrator of this with the cube, and Ant-Man and a couple throughout, like whatever device he had to steal when he fought Falcon

You actually don't know what the term means. Antagonists cannot be macguffins, because they impact the plot.

>Thor 1 had the cube

That barely mattered. The story of the movie was not about the cube, it was about Thor. He was the main axis of the story.

>Winter Soldier had the flash drive

Sure, but that was only for a section of the story

>WS became the MacGuffin

He was literally the exact opposite of a MacGuffin. His existence changed the character emotionally, and he could not be replaced in the narrative with something like him.

Already addressed your point, man. Although "poorly conceived" doesn't really fit given that we know their greater purpose as they're building up to Infinity Gauntlet. It's the long game, and that's not necessarily good or bad yet. We don't know. It was the screenwriters trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

They'd set up Bucky in Winter Soldier, but then had Civil War dumped on them, and they said "Fukkit, we can't just drop Bucky altogether. Fit him in there somehow"

I think it's way better than the alternative. I'm praying the decision works out.
>>
>>77728954

That was more of an issue with casting.

Matthew Goode is a fantastic actor, but he's an evil-looking motherfucker. Everyone who has never read Watchmen could see that movie and instantly know he's the villain, because he looks and is dressed like a James Bond villain.

You needed someone friendly and white-bread, like Brad Pitt or Chris Evans.
>>
>>77728711
The MCU. The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Which includes Agents of SHIELD. Hydra returns, SHIELD is dissolved, leads to Hydra involvement in Age of Ultron (and Ant-Man to a lesser extent), leads to government paranoia, which is leading to Civil War's registration act since SHIELD (as it was) is no more.

It's impactful the way Avengers was to the MCU. It introduced the world to alien threats and these huge heroes that were only heresay up to that point. Age of Ultron wasn't nearly as impactful on the overall world. They mention Sokovia and it is playing a role in Civil War, but the impact isn't as strong as everything else.
