It's all coming together now. Hirsch was mad Nolan used the same "dream within a dream" concept he wanted to use.

Considering she went into the initial bubble while she was unconscious, and Bill's specialty is dreams, it makes sense that Dipper and co. have entered her mind like they did Stan's. Maybe something about that will tie into how to defeat Bill, though.

He's talked to Dipper and Ford the most so he's called them a few different things, usually "kid" or "pine tree" for Dipper and Ford is Sixer, six fingers, Fordsy etc.

But it's not like he always uses symbol names, when he first appears he just called Stan "Stan" he doesn't call him "Claw" or "fez" or whatever. He calls Soos "Soos" when possessing Dipper, and maybe that's just because he was possessing someone, I just don't think he's as consistent about using symbol names as fandom likes to make out. In the last episode, when he called Dipper "pine tree" he was talking directly to him so viewers knew who he was talking to, but if Bill and the monsters were always talking about "Shooting Star" when she's offscreen, it would probably be confusing. I just think people read too much into it (like thinking calling Wendy "Red" means she's actually the broken heart and not the ice bag).

Bill's eyes in Stan's face don't make sense anymore, honestly. For a while I was sure the story was building up to a sleeper agent or something similar within the Pines family (Stn, Ford, or Dipper), but it wouldn't fit into the narrative's pacing at this point.

By opening the dimensional tear, Bill has surpassed his need to possess humans. He has his own physical form, and it's infinitely more powerful than he could ever be while bound by regular humans' limitations. He has nothing to gain from possessing Stan now.

The only way I could see it happening is if Bill possesses him after his own physical form has been destroyed. I guess I could come up with a few scenarios that would make sense, but I'm not confident they're likely to happen.

Personally, I'm wondering whether Stan won't lose an eye and have to wear an eyepatch for real. It's convenient how the the missing card covers the area a patch would fit in.

That said, I'm not sure what kind of concrete connection Stan and Bill could have outside a deal, either in the past or in the present. We know Bill was never human, and Stan sure as fuck isn't isn't Bill. And Stan doesn't like the paranormal, so he wouldn't willingly involve himself with Bill either.

At this point, I think it's just as likely the similarities between them are a red herring. But I guess that wouldn't preclude Bill's eyes showing up on the final card.

Depends how you define AU, really. You can argue that anything other than the canon storyline is an AU by default. But a lot of stories are canon divergent--they're set in the same universe as canon, with more or less the same characters, but events fall out differently past a certain point.

Compare that to a true AU, where the setting is changed or the characters act completely differently (think Reverse Pines, for example).

The ones where the characters' personalities and actions are unrecognizable seem to be the ones that get the most complaints.

I always think it's weird when some book/tv show/movie that has an interesting premise gets turned into an AU where the characters are boring high school students or, even better, work in a coffee shop (because that's such an exciting job). I'm sure they can be written well, but the few I've read are more like, "What would this story be like if it was totally boring with a bunch of bland generic characters that have nothing to do with the characters from the work."

If you look at Gravity Falls' scheduling in the past, you'll notice that episodes have never once aired during December. We've had breaks from early October to mid-February, a year long break, and a late November to mid-February break in 2014.

Granted, since they'd be leaving a cliffhanger in the middle of a multipart episode, they might do things a little differently this time around. But there's a good chance we'll see a Christmas break, at least.

As you said, his rift is going to destroy the dimension eventually if it's left open, so the first part at least makes sense. I'm not sure how I'd feel about the rest.

On the one hand, I'd like if Bill had some motivation other than breaking rules and partying. But on the other hand, he doesn't really strike me as the type to kamikaze an entire universe. I don't get the impression he wants to die at all.
