Ok man here's the deal. She was found on one of the warp pads by the gems. She was trapped for a long time so I'm guessing she predates the war or during the war. Once she arrived to Home World obviously culture shocked to see it vastly different from what it used to be she'd ask questions or go crazy rambling. She possibly informed she was on Earth and Peridot also reported that the Earth warp pad has been compromised even tho she's the first gem to go there since the war and the kindergarten project has been over. So they put one and one together by having her tell Peridot everything she knew about Earth and the the other gems she meet on Earth. Peridot enlists an escort for the trip back and they take Lapis as she is their only source of that planet aside from Jasper who fought in the rebellion.

The only thing I'm a little salty about with the hiatus is that it doesn't feel like the next episode will be a good stopping point or have any conclusion to this little "peridot integration" arc, so far we've had the intial episodes where she was captured and began to cooperate, last episode where she and pearl began to get along a bit and the preview for next episode hints at something similar with amethyst.
