Coffee beans are not charred or burnt unless they are full french or italian roast.

Most coffee sold in the US is roasted to a Full City Roast+ at most which isn't charred at all.

The browning of the beans comes from the maillard reaction - the same thing that turns the crust of a loaf of bread brown. Are you stupid enough to think that bread is a carcinogen?

There is extremely little dark roast coffee in the US. It is highly likely that no one on this board has ever even had a dark roasted coffee.

Seriously... go try to find a truly dark roasted coffee at your local grocery store - or any of the coffee houses in the area. It starts to taste like ash or a carbon filter.. it's awful and americans won't drink it.

"The results indicate that coffee contributes with very insignificant quantities to the daily human intake of carcinogenic PAHs."

PAHs are the compounds you are talking about with regard to roasting and carcinogens. Keep in mind that meat has other compounds in it besides these that become carcinogenic, but coffee only has this variety.

We have the best coffee, ok. I know people that say we have the best coffee. It doesn't cause cancer. It's light to medium roast. We're gonna build a roaster and the columbians are going to pay for, ok? And it's gonna be great. All the people are saying it. Everyone knows it's true. We're gonna roast to first crack, let the beans brown a little bit more, but we're gonna stop just before second crack or maybe just a couple seconds after second crack. It's gonna be terrific. I'm gonna be the best roaster president America has ever seen. I won the most popular roast in America and the number of people at my inauguration that wanted some of my hot coffee was huuuuge.

Is that mexico organic whole bean stuff at costco any good?
>>
>>8511393

Grind is too fine for pour over

You're using too much water to start with according to the American Cupping Society...

195 is not hot enough to extract some of the components so you are going to miss some flavor elements.

50g for bloom is too much, 20s is not long enough.

These are generalities and they may all differ given different sources for beans and the roast.

Given that you didn't list an origin for the bean or the roast I'm going to just assume that you have no business working with a pour over anyway because even if you did manage to not fuck up everything - you wouldn't be able to tell if you got it right anyway.

>>8511393

Grind is way too fine unless the calibration on your Virtuoso is totally shot.

Water should be much hotter, at least 205 to start, ideally closer to 208 (to account for the temperature drop mixing with the grounds will cause).

I know that blooms are normally done with 2x coffee weight, but in my Chemex I've found that 3x coffee weight consistently produces better results.

I know the concept of stimulus/reaction is difficult to understand, but you could at least try.

Some tips
>preheat the water before pouring in, this ensures that grounds don't get burnt while water is heated

>>

>>8515011
This is because pour over is a meme. People should just use drip machines. They are superior for home cooks because everything is already preset to hit certain temperatures and measures. the trick to getting the most out of coffee is roasting your own beans and grinding to the right setting for your extraction method. if you grind medium to medium coarse, drip machines make a better cup of coffee anyway.

Breville has really made a name for themselves in the almost commercial grade "pro-sumer" market for kitchen gadgets. Their unit the Breville BDC650BSS Grind Control looks to be full featured... but I would probably save some money and get the Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder.

Capresso grinders are top notch.

Although.. I really don't see anything wrong with pre grinding the night before. There really isn't a difference in 12 hours.

Nicaraguan with some light cocoa mixed in with the ::COFFEE::: and ::brown:: flavors. About to have a raison ice pot imported from indonesia. It reminds me of camel's signature blend frost, a bit.

>Ask a doctor, not 4chan
I'm asking here on 4chan because here on /ck/ there was bunch of very interesting convincing posts in this thread & in previous threads
with pictures and with links to very solid and factual articles on that topic, they were supported by scientific facts,
like scientifically proven & factually documented that toxic fertilizers and pesticides are sprayed on coffee bushes on coffee beans.

Also same level of documentation was posted on the topic of toxic molds present in coffee beans.
And third very shocking story was about cancer causing elements in the dark roast coffee beans due to the fact that the beans were roasted burned-charred
to the point that chemical reaction due to the heat was creating new form of very toxic scientifically acknowledged & proven carcinogens (substances capable of causing cancer in living tissue).
So they were covering mostly 3 problem ares with connection to possibility of getting cancer from drinking 'wrong' type of coffee.

And that 'wrong' type of coffee doesn't necessary has to be commercially grown using toxic fertilizers and pesticides coffee,
it could also be Organically grown coffee.
Great thing about Organic coffee (if was indeed) grown practicing all the rules applying to U.S.Department of Agriculture ORGANIC (USDA-O) and International Codes
that no toxic chemicals was used on it, but Organically grown coffee can also be a source of the cancer causing elements from the other two types of 'wrong' coffee beans.
Organic beans that have toxic mold growing on them & beans that were roasted burned-charred to the dark roast level.

Wrong thinking, because we drink coffee from Organically grown coffee beans that we are 100% OK & that we are sheltered from the possibility of getting cancer from 'wrong' coffee.
No that is wrong thinking, same as commercially grown coffee also Organically grown coffee can be damaging to our health if it has toxic molds or if we are drinking dark roast, or both.

coffee_growing .jpg
82KB, 1023x768px
BTW, I never suggested for people to stop drinking coffee,
I'm coffee drinker my self, drinking coffee every single day but I was presenting facts about different types of coffee
I was presenting scientific facts the there is un-healthy coffee grown with toxic chemicals and that there is Organic coffee
grown without toxic chemicals but that both of them can also be bad for your health if there is toxic mold growing on them
or of they are roasted to a dark charred roast.
Or if coffee is drunk on a empty stomach.

So just to be clear never in my posts I saId: DON'T DRINK COFFEE
I just give access to informations that there is a healthier way to drink and enjoy coffee
but your (Janitors and Mods) personal very strange approach was to delete my posts and to ban me for doing
nothing illegal according to 4chan Rules by posting this info here.

Your attitude is wrong here not mine.

very valuable health and life saving informations that I was posting here you went crazy dense on this.

It's in your interest also to know those facts, it’s in interest of your Big Bosses who I'm sure some of them
drink coffee (some of them drink lot's of coffee) to know the health risks and what to do to still keep drinking
and enjoying coffee in a healthy smart way and live healthier lives benefiting from the very great
healthy substances that coffee possesses and not to ruin your live by not being aware of it
and drinking the 'wrong' unhealthy coffee.

Instead of Thanking me you are foolishly fighting with me and fighting with the truth about coffee presented to you.

>I'm poor and I'm always in a rush,
maybe the biggest problem is not your espresso machine to such a degree but the type of coffee beans you are using,
also the fact that you are using already grounded coffee is not a great start.
I would definitely experiment with switching coffee brand (maybe you already did that), if you need to stick (at least for now) buying grounded coffee
buy them from your local roasting house or freshly ground using internet coffee sellers with quick delivery time.
Also be aware of info in this post
>>8520204
in relation of drinking dark roast coffee (that is mostly used in espresso blends).
In order to avoid the possibility of getting cancer I would only use medium roasted coffee in my espresso machine.

To make my experiment with switching brands I would buy very good quality coffee, talk to the seller or I'm sure there will be experts here
(who hate me for exposing the health issues with drinking the 'wrong' coffee) & they can help you recommending different coffee choices
in medium roast suitable for espresso machines, making espresso is done and doesn't have to be the traditional dark roast beans.
Reason those (robusta mostly) beans were roasted to dark roast is because they are of lesser quality when comes to taste and flavor & they taste terrible if they were roasted to medium roast.
If you can not buy from your local roaster or from internet & you have to buy from big stores buy medium roast good-high quality 100%Arabica coffee,
not all Arabica beans are of good-high quality of course so chose wisely.

OK, but how can you present information of such caliber and importance,I don't understand your suggestion.

AGAIN...anon I never instigated people to STOP DRINKING COFFEE.
I drink coffee every day myself, I'n not enemy of coffee I'm friend of coffee
but as with many foods especially processed foods (and coffee is processed by roasting)
there are two types of the same food.

It could be grown and processed in a healthy way or in a un-healthy way.
And I think we as the consumers have the right to know those differences.

Perhaps coffee should have HEALTH WARNINGS same like cigarettes have so consumers are aware of possible health hazards.
I'm sure there are millions of coffee drinkers who are not aware of it.
And hiding that from them is dishonest business practice, and we have here those who like to hide that from others so they can
make money by selling product that is not healthy and I', sure they are aware of those problems
and I'm sure that they don't drink that toxically infused coffee but drink nice high quality Organically grown coffee
and sell their substandard coffee to unsuspecting consumers.

That's how it works my friends.
And most of you know that.

I think in interest of every person is that the other people of the society are eating healthy so there is
no strain on the medical system and that the overall health of the society is bettered & not made worst by consuming toxic products,
isn't the obesity epidemic (and not only in the US) BUT NOW IN MEXICO AND IN MANY OTHER COUNTRIES
is destroying young population just because of wrong diet just because dishonest food producers-businessmen
are supplying toxic foods foods that are not healthy at all.

smoking cigarettes causes cancer and later when confronted with scientific facts they were twisting and turning

but eventually smart people got the smoking bans implemented and Warnings Printed on packaging so nobody can say
'I was not aware of possibility that I can get cancer from smoking cigarettes'

I wonder how you would feel if in the future you get ill and doctor tells you that is connected to drinking or too much or 'wrong' coffee

Your capitalization of words for emphasis suggests you don't have the mental faculties to shape context in such a way as to create emphasis. You can usually see this in people struggling with schizophrenia, meth addiction, etc.

While your claim that certain coffees contain carcinogens might be true, the way in which these carcinogens are applied, their volume, and processes has an affect on their potency as cancer causing agents. Charred meat is also a carcinogen, so is uv radiation, yet we have tolerances for these things due to evolution. I honestly doubt coffee is as bad for you as smoking, since we have been drinking the stuff for a really long time and have yet to find damage as extensive as the damage caused by smoking cigarettes.

All the 4 areas that I was covering in respect to health hazards in relation to coffee are totally scientifically acknowledged that they do exist
and that they pose health hazards of getting ulcers or cancer.

I will list them for you to prove that you are spreading lies.

1.Commercially grown coffee is known to be sprayed with toxic fertilizers and pesticides. -(scientific fact).
2.Toxic molds can grow on both commercially and Organically grown coffee beans and can cause cancer when consumed. -(scientific fact).
3.Dark roasted burned-charred coffee beans are proven in many scientific labs World over that they create carcinogens that are causing cancer. -(scientific fact).
4.Drinking coffee on an empty stomach was proven by doctors and scientists that it cause ulcers and can cause cancer
because coffee is acidic and empty stomach can not deal with hot acid introduced to it on regular basis it'a inner lining will eventually get destroyed
and ulcer or cancerous cell will start to grow there. -(scientific fact).

There in nothing that I'm talking about is my opinion, those are 100% SOLID SCIENTIFIC FACTS, anon

That tells the story in a very honest objective way.
I'm not enemy of coffee I Love drinking coffee, coffee has very beneficial 'goodies' in it, fantastic coffee oils, caffeine - they are good for us.(in moderation of course)
I drink coffee every day but I like to know truth about the quality and safety of the coffee that I'm pouring in my body.

Virtually all grains and produce can be contaminated with mycotoxins. This is why first world countries rigorously test for various mycotoxins and have stringent limits.

The stomach isn't able to deal with acid? Really?

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are present in all burnt or overcooked foods and are by no means limited to coffee.

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278691509000271
>The results indicate that coffee contributes with very insignificant quantities to the daily human intake of carcinogenic PAHs
.
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0023643812003519
>PAHs summed levels ranged from 0.015 to 0.105 μg/L (C. arabica brews) and 0.011 to 0.111 μg/L (C. canephora brews). The difference among the levels detected in different roasting degrees was not statistically significant, except between dark and roasted filtered brews.

So PAHs in coffee are negligible. Don't breathe air if you are scared of those exposure values.

Coffee can not only give you pleasure from drinking but also as a household plant.
The coffee plant is a low-maintenance tropical that requires no more than a rich potting soil dense in organic matter and a regular watering regimen.

"How to Grow Coffee Plant"
https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/coffee/growing-coffee-plants-indoors.htm

Did you know that the same plant that grows coffee beans also makes a great houseplant?
Considered to be among the easiest and hardiest of houseplants, coffee plant is great for both experienced or beginner gardeners.
Not only is coffee plant care easy, but the plant itself is lovely and makes a wonderful addition to the home.

I'm going to try to grow one from the coffee bean.
I have some lemons and limes that are growing from the seed, now some of them are like 4-6 feet tall,
and one small 3 feet tall lemon bush/tree give this year give 11 so very tasty fragrant fruits but it's growing outside.
>>
Look at this beautiful blooming coffee plant, I think it has nice smell as well.
I think for real coffee Lovers having one or few coffee plants growing indoor is very proper thing to have.

Can I grow coffee in dirt mixed with used coffee grounds?
It would make a nice full circle.
Too bad it takes at least 5 years for it to start fruiting.
>>
Coffee arabica, widely regarded as the best species of the coffee producing coffee shrub, is fairly easy to grow as a house plant or in a container garden.

>Can I grow coffee in dirt mixed with used coffee grounds?
I think why not since coffee grounds are widely used in gardening, I'm going to do more reading on it.
I like the idea of growing indoor coffee plant or two, especially straight from the bean

I wonder if the coffee flowers if dried and smoked would give any high/buzz?
Some flowers do, I smoked dried up rose peddles and few other flowers, they give some high, (not the type pot is)
but very interesting mild some sweet pleasant but short buzz.

for those who like to explore smoking coffee flowers (and other flowers) here is interesting link:

Am I ruining my coffee with cream and sweetener? Is it worth trying different kinds of coffee?

I currently drink the coffee pictured. I take about two tablespoons and put that in my moka pot. When it's done I add about 3-4 tablespoons of some sugar free creamer and about 1-1/2 packets of sweetener. Is this similar to eating a well done steak, i.e. it doesnt matter what cut of meat you get because a well done steak ruins the flavor that particular cut might have? I've tried other kinds of coffee, and I realize that dark roasts aren't my thing, but I'm open to just about anything. Any recommendations?
>>
I drank two mugs of coffee and fapped like 5 times today. I also had nothing to eat until 7 pm.

I'm new to coffee. I have a nespresso machine. Can I somehow get coffee out of it instead of the tiny bit of espresso?
>>
>>8526105
You can make coffee simply by dumping ground coffee into boiling water and sifting it out after 3 minutes. A french press just streamlines the process. You don't need a fancy machine.

Ew never a big fan of the process, covers up alot of the fruity flavors of the coffee. Ends up tasting like darker richer flavors, which is goof for certain coffees but not like an Ethiopian or Colombia or Panama?

Just finished brewing. Still tinkering my grinder since its new. My usual ratio is 16:1, so i use 20g coffee to 320g water.

I usually aim for around a brew time of 2:30, but i just brewed right now at a time of 2:05. So its either grind size or technique

Lido 3. My fucking nigger. I just got my Lido E-T, so the fine threading option is giving me a bit of trouble dialing in the grind size I want.

The coffee I got should taste like lime, plums, maple, and raspberry. But i'm only getting the citrus and tart notes. So ill have to take in account brew time and grind size. Water is another issue, since i use a concentration that I dilute with RO water. Im about to reee
