I've never heard of a wrestler trying to gain weight. The ones I knew in high school were always starving themselves, consuming almost nothing but water and even taking up smoking in an effort to get into an easier weight class.

What happened? If you gain weight to make varsity in a higher weight class, you're going to be at a disadvantage since the people in that class cut weight to get there.
IMO shakes are the best for getting your macros if you're skeleton mode and need easily-consumed calories.

If you get taller you have to gain weight and move up a weight class or you will be a string bean.
Or his current weight class could be very competitive in his area and less so in the class above.
Or he just wants to get bigger because he's in high school and doesn't take sports too seriously.
