I like Nikka Yoichi the best, there is a reason they beat all other whisky especially the obsolete piss from Scotland.

Japan has basically surpassed Europe in whisky and knives and every other thing on earth. I look forward to the day soon when Europe is overrun by the Islamic hordes, 'murrica has driven itself into the ground by electing Trump, and then Japan will be a shining beacon of civilization

Sorry white people, your time is over and it's time you rolled over and took it like a bitch. It is the Asian 21st century.

There is no "in general", there's high end and low end

Low end is way overpriced because poorfags have learned about japanese whisky

High end is great but it's not going to please the MUH LAFROOG neckbeards who just learned how to choke down alcohol last Tuesday, because it actually has nuances other than iodine and filling literally the entire room with the smell of smoke. Obviously, you can burn random objects while you drink, if you require that campfire experience to remind you you're a real grownup

If you want easy drinking on the cheap, stick with scotland

American whisky > Irish whisky
>>
>>7251190
I feel like Irish whiskey would benefit from having a more diverse range of distillers...there are only 7 active distilleries on the whole island. And 3 of those don't have whiskey on the market yet. There are iirc four brands of single pot still Irish whiskey on the market, and ALL of them are made by the same company. Compare this to the US or Scotland which both have around a hundred active distilleries.

Scotsman here, used to work in a luxury whisky bar, did whisky tasting events etc.

best nipponese whiskey i ever tried was Nikka From The Barrel, their cask strength.

50.1% abv, deep amber colour, slightly caramel/fruity taste with notes of cinnamon and a mild oakey character.

very pleased with the calibre of most japanese whiskies, but then again they hired hundreds of scottish distillery workers in the 60's and 70's to learn from the best

AMA

Nikka pure malt and harmony would be best for a beginner.

Coffey is a grain whiskey and is a little harsher than a malt, more burn to the taste. grain whisky is more of an acquired taste in my experience

nikka from the barrel is worth the cost, because you'll typically be adding a little bit of water to take it down to ~40%, and this will pad out the bottle a bit longer

WHY the fuck did they have to do this? They could have just kept on producing the same way they've done for 100 years, and just raised the prices instead to keep the quality the same. Lowering the quality just to sell to everybody is very bad for marketing purposes.

Losing populations is literally not a problem for a first world country that is willing to adapt to it (i.e. automisation and strict immigration control).

It certainly is better than getting your population replaced by third worlders.
>>
>>7256720
Having peat, not much peat. There's a difference to the amount of peats each scotch has. And I dislike peat, which is why I like Irish whiskey more. The thing is, Japanese whiskey is styled from Scotch, but apparently different enough that the peat isn't as strong, like other whiskeys.

depopulation is not a good thing.

its basically the same as if 25% of the population was wiped out by plague or murder.

any population that is not growing, is dying.
this is a simple fact of life.
>>
>>7256741
>wanting to grow the population
>in an overpopulated island where manufacturing jobs are done by robots
When the population drops low enough, there will be a lot of property freed up in Japan. People will start to breed again. This has been the case with every single demographic correction that has occurred in human history. This isn't some kind of straight line. Everyone thought back in the 1960s that population in the developed world would keep on doubling, allowing welfare states to support the previous generation. It's these kind of generalizations that "oh they'll be extinct in a 100 years so let me fuck your women and allow me to immigrate to your country" mindset that's pretty ignorant.
>>
So weeaboos have destroyed the Japanese whiskey market.

Fucking hilarious.
>>
>>7256756
>depopulation is not a good thing.
>its basically the same as if 25% of the population was wiped out by plague or murder.
Do you know that Italy was overpopulated before the Black Death occurred? Do you know that the massive depopulation allowed people to actually own land and start larger families again? The demise of cheap labor forced many Italians and other Europeans to innovate, creating machines such as the printing press. The huge depopulation of Europe during the Black Death paved the way for the Renaissance.
A large population is good, but not for a country the size of Japan. They have 3x the population, but live in a country the size of California, with even less natural resources. It's why apartments there are tiny tier.
>>
>>7256758
>This has been the case with every single demographic correction that has occurred in human history
wrong

there has never been a depopulation event like this before

this is not a natural disaster, or something inflicted by an enemy in war, or by an epidemic.

there is nothing good about it at all. its the slow slide of an ethnicity and population into stagnation, regression and extinction.
>>
>>7256747

there is no such thing as "overpopulation".
there is only availability of resources.

>Do you know that the massive depopulation allowed people to actually own land and start larger families again?
No, you fucking moron.

You've completely misunderstood what the Black Death did to society. Because it killed off such a huge amount of workers, it improved the negotiation position of the remaining workers, leading to the development of guilds and more workers rights against the rich.

It didnt "allow people to own land and start larger families".

Christ its fucking maddening how uneducated and ignorant shits like you are these days.

A large growing population, is a healthy population.
A population which does not grow, is not healthy.
A population which decreases, is dying.

>this guy REALLY believes what he's saying
Of course there's such a thing as overpopulation. Resources are generally finite unless you can invent or do something that creates more resources. Japan is lacking in land, lacking in natural resources, and the global economy is slowing down creating a massive problem for them since they're an export nation.

>lots of dead people
>lots of free land with no owners
>people could take them and use them
While guilds developed with this as well, that is not the only thing that assisted in the European revival after the plague wiped them out.

Only a complete idiot would argue that population must always grow. We do not live in an infinite world. Not all real estate are made equal. Not everyone wants to live in tiny little apartments the size of one single room.
>>
>>7256781
>The only thing keeping their growth up artificially, is immigration.
Growth from immigration is not real growth. Increased GDP does not mean increased GDP per capita. Merely adding new people does not bring in greater returns. It's the principle of diminishing returns. Japan has it in droves.

I'm an immigrant, but even I understand that first world countries like Japan have no business adding more people in their country.

from an ecological and biological perspective, there is no such thing as overpopulation.
there is only scarcity or availability of resources.

no you moron. you couldn't just "take" land in this period.

You really have no idea of the situation and what happened under what circumstances and in what context in this period of history.

Just shut up and stop embarrassing yourself.

The Black Plague, and the Spanish Flu, are both epidemics that almost ended Western Civilisation and set it back by generations.

Same goes for the Small Pox epidemics imported to the N and S American Indians.

No one is going to farm those lands unless workers are put on them. Of course that's a lot of free land left for the survivors.

>all whiskey tastes like peat

Have any of you even been to Scotland?
Ever visited a working distillery?

No you go to that hipster whiskey bar with staff that have limited knowledge but try and act like they know more than you, sure they have good selection but they nothing of the drink, origins, culture, flavours, climates of areas, how to pair a decent cigar.
Its not just something you can pick up, you have to drink it for years to appreciate the finer qualities and how to single out aromas , mouth feel and finishes.
A good way to learn is go to tasting classes, they usually have a rep from the company and they will explain in great detail what you are smelling and swallowing.

You dont understand the laws of the period.
The land was owned by local rulers.
And if you where on the land, the ruler owned you too.

The Renaissance began more than hundred years after the Black Death and took centuries to develop. TheBlack Death did not lead to it. A resurgence in the ideals of Antiquity did, and that only in certain cities, and even then only among the wealthy.

You are learning. As you state, availability of resources is the problem. Overpopulation is not. Population growth is ALWAYS good, it provides more manpower, more human ingenuity, more progress.I repeat, there is no such notion as overpopulation in either ecology or biology.

No such thing as overpopulated.

The problem the Japanese, is not in their populations size. Infact their problem is its population is set for a disastrous dowturn because they are not reproducing ENOUGH.

That and efficiently distributing resources onto and within an island to that population.

There is no shortage of food, water, space or resources in the world. Merely a difficulty in efficiently aquiring them.

all scotch does.

and technically if its not scotch, its not whiskey, its whisky.
>>
>>7256856
You dont understand the terms you are using.

There is no diminished return from more people.
More people produce more and create the bssis for others to create more.

2 people can produce twice as much as one. 1 million people produce 1 million times more than 1.

People produce a quadratic output, in exponential growth, the more of them there are. If there is only enough population to farm to feed themselves, there is no basis for other work, such as poets, politicians and dancers.

You are utterly wrong and backwards on thiw.
>>
>>7256851
It started in the early mid 1400s, and took centuries to proliferate.
>>
>>7256855
>There is no shortage of food, water, space or resources in the world.
National populations are provided for in a national sense. Of course if you bring the entire world in, 120 million people isn't a problem.

But those 120 million people have to deal with 7 billion people and they have a country the size of California to live in (10 percent of it anyway).

A simple increase in 10% of the population of Texas through immigration completely stretched all freshwater resources in that state in the last ten years.

The problem with the Japanese IS the population size in relation to the locality they live in. It's why people have become underemployed there by the millions, that people resort to renting out manga cafe stalls as apartments, or, renting out holes in the walls to sleep in. There is way too many people in Japan, that reproduction is seen as far more of a hassle than not.

There is no way you can support a family if all you can afford to sleep in at night is a damn manga cafe stall and you have a shitty 20 hour per week job.
>>
>>7256868
14th century is 1300s. Renaissance started in the 14th century, meaning 1300s.
>>7256865
>there is no diminished return from more people
Run a business or a line shift, before you say that. You will end up running workspace soon enough if you put 20 people in a kitchen that can be efficiently staffed by 5 workers.
Space matters. Resources matters. Too many people clutter shit up and make a lot of people redundant or useless.

That is the principle of diminishing returns.
>>
>>7256871
"Overpopulation" is not the problem.

Japans biggest problem at the moment is that soon a whole age group is retiring and dying with no-one to replace them, because they have not reproduced enough.

Its like a large company with 1000 workers finding that from one week to the next it only has 750 workers, and 500 on the week after that, and 250 after that. The company will go bankrupt because it doesnt have the staff to run its business.
>>
>>7256877
>this dumbass literally does not understand what mechanization is and how the Japanese economy doesn't need as many workers to provide the same amount of productivity due to robot work
>he doesn't understand how there's so much cheap labor in Japan right now, people have to resort to renting out shitty places to live in because there's so many people and not enough living space
Those old people will die. And the cycle will restart when the population grows small enough. Japan is already building robots to start caring for their elderly. A drop in population forces innovation.
>>
>>7256873
Then you need a bigger business premise.

That your business is doing so well that you have that much staff is not the problem. Its a huge asset. Your problem is efficiently finding and aquiring resources to continue its growth.

You are agin co pletely wrong on diminishing returns. That concept does not mean what you think it does.

>Wonder if thry can create a robot stupid enough to replace you

Yeah, the social system right now is basically a glorified ponzi scheme that's based on continual population growth and near-full employment.

That shit is impossible because the more people there are, the less real estate, the less desire to have many children.

And 25% loss isn't irreplaceable. The mass majority of people in Japan is OLD, meaning they barely do anything productive for the country and only serve as users of social welfare. That is what it means to get old. They really have no contribution to the economy, if you think about it in a completely calculating way.
>>
>>7256952
>Then ypur problem is aquiring more canvases, not that you have 1000 artists.
But the current technology and resources can only provide for 100 canvasses.
The same way that current economies can only provide a certain number of jobs leading to massive u30 unemployment in developed nations.

You are still acting like everything is infinite. Technology, the ability to extract resources, and the energy required to extract the resources isn't powerful enough that we have infinite everything.

False.

They are not yet retired, and are still in the workforce. That has yet to come.

Furthermore, its you who fails to understand that the NEGATIVE GROWTH RATE of the Japanese means this problem will persist atleast through the next generation, meaning there will be EVEN LESS Japanese in the generation after that.

Use your fucking brain.

Do you not understand the basic arithmetic of human reproduction and sustaining of a population?

For each 2 adults, atleast 2 offspring must be produced, to SUSTAIN the population. To GROW the population, they must produce atleast 3. If they produce only 1, the population will HALF in the space of one generation.

Use your fucking brain.
>>
>>7256964
>But the current technology and resources can only provide for 100 canvasses.

I can cut each canvas into 10 with the fine technology of a knife. Now we have 1000 canvasses.

>You are still acting like everything is infinite.
You are still acting like everything is depleted and gone. It isn't. There is a huge abundance of resources on this planet. You misunderstand its unequal and inefficient distribution for scarcity. They are not the same thing.

None of which, again, has anything to do with diminishing returns.

Scarcity of resources is not the cause of unemployment. The unsustainable greed and inefficiency of the owners of resources and employers, is leading to unemployment.
>>
>>7256971
>They are not yet retired, and are still in the workforce.

It's like you talkin, but you don't even know why the Japanese are in the rut they're in right now.

Negative and positive growth rates are not permanent. They are always based on peoples' choices. Is it financially worth it to have a family? In Japan, the answer is no.
Will it be that way when the older generation dies off and real estate properties drop in Japan with an increased demand for workers later, leading to increased pay and wages? No, because they'll have the money to afford a family.
This thing is not rocket science if you actually studied the Japanese and European economies and their respective cultures.

You, inanely and falsely claim their problem is "overpopulation", which is a false notion and one NEVER used in the sciences of ecology, biology or sociology. That you even use the term, speaks volumes of the fact you don't know what you are talking about.

>Negative and positive growth rates are not permanent.
The NEGATIVE GROWTH RATE has a PERMANENT effect. Time is linear, you fucking moron. If one generation does not reproduce enough to sustain itself into the next generation, then that is a NEGATIVE change which incontrovertibly and directly effects the next generation, and all generations thereafter, as they are subsequently SOURCED from that generation.

25% of the population dying off with no replacement, does not mean "free real estate and more jobs".

It means shitloads of empty worthless real-estate, the investments and savings of their owners completely devalued and lost. It means less people providing employment in less business, to less people, and the competition of higher educated/skilled employees being preferred by those fewer employers.

There's less competition when there's less people for labor. This means that even shit labor jobs get paid well. And if shit labor gets paid well, service sectors gets paid well.
