Ushijima was at SDCC this year at the Udon booth. Interestingly enough, there was almost no advertisement for it. She mentioned it on her Twitter page, but I saw nothing about it anywhere else. Barely any pictures of it or anything.
Usually when you have a semi-well known cosplayer traveling overseas and appearing at a company's booth they usually MENTION it or something..

I think it is sufficient in Amazon.

Even though it is easy finding costumes online here, in Japan if you live near a decent size city (like pretty small city) you can walk into your local anime store, buy a costume and be on your merry way. I lived in Toyohashi and there were 4 anime stores I knew of in the city. Nagoya was close by and has its own anime/cosplay festival once a year.

I don't trust Japanese cosplayers, since they are always 2 different persons. One person on pics where they look perfect but if you see them in real live you won't notice them at first because how over shoped their pictures are.

this is Asian in general. Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, everyone. Part of the difference might be with Americans and Europeans having more public exposure. More events with more people taking and posting photos (and more people who don't know much about cameras/processing etc) so you get more "raw" images. Not sure where Russians fall into the spectrum but they're probably just as shooped.

I think it's much more likely that Western media likes an "effortless" persona, and being fake neutralizes that. You need to look good, but you need to seem like you didn't put much effort in, and that' you're naturally beautiful, emphasis on natural. We know how to use cameras, we invented photoshop. It's just not glorious nipponese girls who know how to use them. We're just more wary with over-shooping ourselves because we'll get called out. It's not normal to shoop yourself to the point of not being recognizable here because we don't have such a strong culture of self-hate.
And with russians, it seems like the popular ones are pretty shoop heavy.

I was in Nagoya this summer for World Cosplay Summit. My country participates so it's fun to see them compete. I was very impressed with the amount of cosplayers at the event, so many cosplayers. Felt like much more than Comiket and Tokyo Game Show. Sasuga WCS, I thought.

Just wanted to say I'm tired as fuck to see people introducing their "cosplay culture" by posting random pics of half-naked cosplayer, whether they're japanese or else.
I'm from Europe, I've been to Comiket twice and I was quite sickened by the cosplay part of it - only thing I've seen is people lining to take pics of a cute girl in a short Love Live dress she bought 2 days ago, or to buy photosets with shitloads of pantyshots.

So, in our cosplay culture, the costume is very important (almost always handmade) - and you can even see some ugly men cosplayers getting famous because their costume is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWESOME.
Of course, sexy cosplayers like Yaya Han, Jessica Nigri and others drive a lot of attention too, but both of them make their costumes too and are great at it.
And nothing like these stupid exhibitionists girls who wear a wig and go to con so they're sure some fat otaku ppl like you will take shitty pics of them and fap to it for the rest of their poor life.

There's the same kind of awesome costume and cosplayers in Japan too - the kind of things you see on stage at WCS, or in a corner of the cosplay area in Comiket, with 2 or 3 people stopping to take pics.

They use "lion-board" to make Handmade-Weapons or Handmade-armors,because in many Events in Japan it is prohibited to bring in hard material.

"Tinny costumes" has got excellent achievement in Japan.
It is that Japanese-cosplay-culture have grown thanks to that.
Cheap costumes are very friendly for begginers.
