This girl was a Cosplayer first and then went lolita very recently. Her coords have greatly improved from the ita shit she was doing but I agree with the comments above. A lot of cosplayers that migrate to or try out lolita almost always overdo it on the makeup (and fake looking wigs) because they're so used to it, since cons are more about photoshoots now than in-person interaction. It's one thing to be used to doing makeup to look good on camera but they have to realize that it's still a streetfashion, so photoshoot-ready makeup isn't really appropriate for what's generally daily fashion. Even event makeup is generally a little less OTT than camera-ready photoshoot makeup.

I feel like cosplayers that migrated to lolita before the cosplay community became the way it is these days don't have this problem as much because makeup was less photoshoot oriented in the earlier 2000's. You can see it when you look at old con photos.

Unless she's using that lantern to find her way home Halloween night, a prop is not part of an outfit. It's part of a costume. A bag is an item you wear for a utilitarian purpose- to hold things. It's part of an outfit/coord.

Her tights are fine but the boots go with nothing, and her wig looks like a mess. It is far from a 'perfect' coord and the only reason it looks 'amazing' to you is because it's a good photo of a decent outfit on a pretty girl.

Well for one the blouse doesn't fit and she looks like she's about to bust out, but the proportions are just all wrong. Generally the ideal balance of lolita silhouette goes

>large-medium head area
>small chest/waist area
>large again at the skirt
>small at the legs
>large-medium at the feet

So the fact that her torso area is equal in balance to her skirt while both dwarf her foot/head area makes her look like a huge solid block. If she had a bigger, voluminous wig/hair accessory and maybe some clunkier boots, I think it would help relieve the imbalance.

I know I'm really late to the party in this dying thread, but you're both totally right. Unfortunately my house is small and poorly lit, so it's tough taking photos, especially when my boyfriend is the only one to help (he needs work, but is getting better). This is my coord, and I have since added full coordinates to my wardrobe instead of just main pieces. I only wore unfinished/rushed outfits for meetups and my personal fb, not for sharing online though thank you for the salt. I agree about the headpiece, but I was taking concrit and this was also a coord I made with what I already had on hand, I've already since ordered something more suitable in the mail. The makeup only looks so harsh because as you know if you saw me we were at an outdoor picnic meetup with harsh morning light.
