If that's supposed to be Q the artist did a poor job conveying it given that in most of the images she's wearing Rei's school uniform, something we never see Q in, and in small one off images like those without much chance to display characterization you'd really rely on the appearance to tell her apart from the regular Rei, either through having her wear the black plugsuit or just setting the images in the destroyed Nerv from 3.0. Although that said that fact that she's doing fairly intimate stuff with Shinji also points to it being regular Rei, given how little we see (if anything) of Q to suggest she'd be interested in that.

No, I'm saying images of Q are banned, and in images like those that are provided without context or explicit characterization it's hard to determine if it's regular Rei or Q, given that they of course occupy identical bodies. That's why I brought up the clothing as a clear way to differentiate the two at a glance, but then also mentioned that with how the images show Shinji with Rei in fairly intimate scenarios it points ever further towards that being Rei and not Q, who's been depicted as far more aloof and lacking interest in such interactions. That in mind my argument is that the artist poorly conveyed that this is supposed to be Q when everything in the images themselves speak against it.

It's nothing to do with the clothing in and of itself but what the clothing suggests, if you see an image of who you think to be Rei in the white plugsuit, school uniform or anything else we only see her wear it's a clear indication that it's Rei, if you see her in the black plugsuit it's a sign that it's Q.

They just defend Asuka against those who pair her up with a boy who treated her like rubbish (vice versa as well, but it wasn't Asuka who strangled Shinji, and she didn't do "that" in a hospital room in front of him either). It's understandable.

On the other hand, Shinji and Rei have a very friendly relationship, and whether it is mother/son, friend/friend, or something else, they have a kind of platonic friendship, caring for each other.

But this again misses the point - which was that as authors they are able to make up any reason they want, even if the reason in question does not make sense.

It follows that a "mental link" need not be the consequence of Rebuild 2's ending, it is equally likely that it was always there for the clones (in general) or it is a special feature of "notRei" in 3.33. It is equally likely that it is indeed the same loudspeaker as we've see later in the same scene.

The point is that 3.33 is so vague and shallow in it's direction that none of your suggestions can be placed firmly as "canon". The ability of the authors to change their minds, especially after four years, makes everything you argue here in this thread pure predictive guesswork.

We wish to place emphasis on the facts, and what the choices made _so far_ means, rather than dogmatically trying to defend 3.33 like you do. It is more accurate to accept that 3.33 as-is, is a trainwreck of loose ends with nothing concrete to it, and that fact takes precedence over your imagination.

This again misses the basic points being made in the post you quoted. You can't just repeat yourself, it's the same as running away from the argument. Instead of you picking one sentence, try reading the whole argument, and maybe consider the bullet points that were listed in the same post you also quoted and I assume, read.

The main point being made in the posts you quoted, and from everyone who has had the displeasure of arguing with you, is that Rei Ayanami is already defined in the original story, and if we limit ourselves to Rebuild, partially in the first two movies. When the third movie or any other spinoff goes too far in changing Rei without there being any form of substance in it, it ceases to be "Rei Ayanami", but something else - a new character. The audience who are familiar with and fans of the original character will not automatically like the new one. It has to be earned all over again, you can't just slap "Rei" on something and expect it to be the same thing. Just like in the series, you can't clone Rei and expect the clone to also be Rei.

To back that point up, let's consider Anno animating a potato, and claiming said potato was Misato. If he did this today, do you not think you would be flooded with Rei fans posting potatoes in the Misato thread (oh wait, there is none..) because "Anno said so" ? The authority fallacy has been dead for a long time. I have to remind you of "The Death of the Author", which is not advocating never trusting the author, but to take his words with a handful of salt.

I don't get why you obsess with the "it's about Shinji and Rei's bond", when it's not up for debate. Not in the sense that I or others agree, but that it isn't really the topic. It can be discussed in length, yes, but you'd find that it would only serve our point of view. Because Shinji and Rei's relationship is given the same coverage as Trump's relationship with the Russians from certain news sites, a wholly negative and critical commentary which criminalizes both parties. It's an attack on everything Rei, but again, this is a discussion for another time.

So why does no one care about Rei Q, and why is fanart of the "newest, most profiled Rei Ayanami" virtually extinct compared to fanart of a Rei Ayanami that's now almost 20 years old? How come Rei Q merchandise does not sell, and why are figurines and merchandise still found depicting Rei Ayanami from 20 years ago?

How is it that every single pro-ReiQ/3.33 poster in this thread, have been revealed to not be fans of Rei at all, but Asuka fans, Misato fans or otherwise? How come the new renditions of Asuka or Misato are more popular than their original versions? How come they sell more? What possibly could be the difference?

The difference is that Rei Q was made by authors that always had a grudge against Rei, and Khara has been degrading Rei over a long time period while strongly advertising characters like Asuka and Kaworu. "Rei" in the Rebuilds as of 3.33 has gone way past the usual threshold of degenerative character rendition. Rei Q is just one part of it, but technically we can consider Rei Q not Rei for many reasons:

- Rei Q does not continue Rei (from 2.0)'s character.
- Rei Q does not represent Rei from the original series and does not continue the character.
- Rei Q has destroyed the continuation of Rei from 2.0 's character, blocked it completely and ruined it in comparison with the original.
- Rei Q mocks the character of Rei herself.
- Rei Q does not have Rei's soul, and is therefore not Rei
- Rei Q is outside EVA01, while Rei(from 2.0) is as of now inside EVA01.
- Rei Q is a clone, and two clones are not the same individual.

See why I did not bother before? It was just you repeating "I don't like Rei Q" four times. Instead, Rei Q picking up Shinji's music player is the continuation and setup to final Rebuild where Shinji will succeed or fail what he was attempting at the end of Rebuild 2.

Let me know when Rei gets changed without any form of substance. In Rebuild 3 the entire world is the substance of the change to Rei. Shinji trying to get Rei back at the end of Rebuild 2 triggered an Impact which was interrupted. practically all of Rebuild 3 is the continuation of Shinji getting Rei back to 100%.
