Apart from that bunch of ship rubbish, that loose hair collection was really nice.

I just doubt the Shinji of 99% of those images is actually Shinji. I mean: he's too manly in those, and we all know real Shinji wouldn't even know how to give a hug to a normal girl; and even less if we talk about Asuka.

That's what most AsuShin fanfics fails at and makes them so ridiculous.

Well the general argument is they if they aren't good for each other, they are good for no one. Think about it, Asuka doesn't have the ability to love others, same with Shinji. They are too damaged.

She actually did try, but Shinji pushed her away in his own way. She says he hurt her feelings, and she was mad how he doesn't understand her. There is something there, but its too messed up. Is it love? Is it loathing? Its too vague and cryptic.

My mother was kind of like Asuka, always angry and very abusive. There was love there, but very complicated. She slapped my older sister as a baby, made her bleed. Treated my father like garbage, he could only drown his sorrows in beer. He tries to kill himself once several years after she died, until he found someone better.

Mother died of cancer when I was 19, both my parents had really fucked up childhoods and had an abusive marriage. It affected me in a pretty bad way.

I don't really like actually shipping anyone with Asuka, Shinji or Rei (though I have a love for Mari x Asuka, there is really no basis for it - I just think it's cute and the idea of a happy future is nice) because I also agree that the series, while it has elements of romance, isn't really intended to be viewed as a love story. It's more about complex human relationships. Hints of affection are involved at varying levels, but the main point does not seem to be about love, or romantic relations.
Other people completely disagree and that's cool. We don't really need to fight or get passive aggressive.

It's one step between love and hatred and life often confirm this. Even in my life once hatred turns to frendship, and I saw a lot with others people. I surprised that you don't saw this in your life. You live in a cave or just troll?

We sometimes forget that these are just child soldiers, forced to kill monsters and drive machines with the soul of their mothers inside. They don't have time to worry about love when they are too wrapped up in themselves.

Before his mental breakdown, Shinji was a good kid and always tried to do the right thing. He cooks, cleans and is loyal to his friends.

Very true. I think that Asuka initiates intimacy with Shinji as a sad attempt to taste what a normal girl is going through at her age. She's a very girly kind of girl; she wants to try out dating, playing games with a friend, talking about her friends' love interests, wearing pretty smelling perfume, starting to look more like a woman in a bathing suit - teenaged girl junk. She doesn't have the luxury of those things, so she goes for the easiest and most tasteful option (obviously her BFF is in love with the jock, and the other reasonable candidate is an otaku) so the decent looking, sweet kid (that just so happens to live with her) is an easy get.
They're just kids, playing at a normal high school sort of life.
That's why I don't buy into any of the "it's a romance/love story" angles.
Rei is completely disinterested in, and probably unable to have a normal life. Her job is her life because it's the only thing she's ever known. She's hopelessly lost when it comes to human interaction, which is why the Rei x Shinji ship is even more out of the question, imho.

I don't think I got to insult you or anything, but if I did, I apologize. Too bad politeness is disappearing everywhere.

The fact is that I think Asuka and Shinji's contempt and misunderstandings clearly crossed the red line, even if they're 13 and 14 years respectively. Of course, I have experienced hatred and friendship towards my live, but not at the same level as these two children. Also, I think we are normal people, without any of the traumas and horrible experiences they have been through, so it's a bit absurd to see them with our principles. They're not normal teenagers.

Nevertheless, being as proud as Asuka (similar or even more, maybe), I would really find it difficult to forgive some of the things Shinji did and just accept him so easily (Remember that I'm talking about canon series, and not rebuild or Au, like the GoS2 images you've been posting).
Full understanding and acceptance after such events would be possible if they were saints and not the damaged children they are.

I found some very cute (despite my disgust against that ship), and Asuka's loose hair is extremely beautiful, but I could only see the authors intentions as: "I know some of you don't like AsuShin images. Then, here's a bunch of them!".

Maybe I'm wrong, but considering this is Asuka's thread and that many of us don't like such a ship, the amount of A/S images was just excessive.
