The "looking glass theory" which you refer to, one used by Rei specifically, was used as a method to understand herself better. The same then happened for Shinji over the next few episodes.

Just to underline the point they repeat this seconds later with Toji's sister in the background not reacting to Rei's mental voice.

Again, like mentioned in 1&2, these points aren't worth debating and they are to be considered disproved. There's nothing concrete here, and concrete is what matters.

The audience would agree with me because I've laid before them the facts and you've given them nothing. Especially since they won't go ahead and fanwank either.

Picking up a music player or being close to one does not define a character. Kaworu picks up the SDAT as well, as does Shinji and others. It's simply an item. A character is an entirely different thing. The act of picking up a SDAT, or not picking it up, does not define whether or not Rei Q is Rei.

Having a mental link with another person doesn't mean you're Rei either. It simply means you have a mental link or that you picked up a music player. In the same way, none of your plot points actually matter. You can't ignore that Rei is explained to still be inside EVA01, which is in itself proof that Rei is not Rei Q. It means nothing more than Rei Q looking exactly like Rei - you might as well argue that Yui is Rei.

The answer is damned simple. Only Rei is Rei. Not a clone, not some soulless imitation, only Rei with Rei's soul. On a broader level, as Rei Q is made to mock Rei, she will never be Rei.

Following with summary and further topics:

Picking up a SDAT / Being able to telepathically communicate is completely irrelevant because whether or not they are true has no bearing on whether or not Rei Q is Rei.

Here's what matters:

- It's the same person/individual as Rei Ayanami, they are the same character. A copy would still be a similar but separate entity.
- The character is from start to end consistent and has it's own development that is tied well together.
- The character is an actual character and not an attempt to mock an existing character. In our case, Rei Q exists to sabotage Rei Ayanami and can therefore never be Rei regardless of what anyone says.

Rebuild has been permanently soiled and can no longer carry genuinely good characters, only pandering in either direction. Speculation such as the following:
- Rei isn't in EVA01, but she is secretly Rei Q
- Rei will merge with Rei Q somehow
- Rei will return in the next sequel

is completely pointless and only makes the situation worse. Rei in general has become a mockery of the original, as Rei is now ranked down to just a mother-clone along with her retarded sister Rei Q. There never was any "character" in Rei that could actually continue past being a narrative device to strike down on Rei and Rei fans.

Correcting this while also making great characters and a believable story that is more than pandering has been impossible for more than four years now, if not even longer.
