In ASTI too. Fingers crossed Uncle Sam drops big purchase order.

Also in CIDM. Due for big pop once tax selling is over and it gets the attention it deserved. Diamond in the rough. Just needs an increase in volume to rocket.

In NVIV and SPCB. Severely oversold and due for a corrective more up.

I bought it at $1.95 at 25 shares back in Nov.. I knew it spiked the week before at $3.05. I figured it would have started to stabilize at that price, grow a little bit again over a month or two, then I'd sell it at about ~$2.50. It got to $2.22 before this week. Should have sold it then, but I honestly wasn't paying attention.

That seemed to work for a bit, but now the whole market is deflating. I'm just wondering if I should hold or not. I only lost $7 on $44 but that's still a sizable chunk.

Bought USEG at 0.135 and did a limit sell at 0.15. When the market hit 0.15 today, only 75% of my shares sold. Can someone explain how that works?
>>
>>994569
I'm pretty new to this, but I know if you have a lot of shares to buy or sell it can't do them all at once. So in the time it took to dump the first 75% maybe it dropped back below .15?

I've had issues with sell limits on here before so I'm prone to not really trust them
>>
>>994569
Just because you're selling an item doesn't mean other people want to buy it at that time. If you're selling 100 apples for $8 each and only 75 people want to buy apples at that price, then that's all you're going to sell. There needs to be willing buyers to complete the sale.

Alright boys, lets hear it, what were your losses today?

I'm at -$37.16, but I cashed out of XGTI yesterday with +$17 so I feel slightly better than I would otherwise.

Buying 200 more shares of GBSN around 11 AM thinking it was on its way back up was a mistake ;-; SFXE is continuing to rape me. Those two alone accounted for $30 of my loses.

how much money do you need to actually start making money... like in the hundred dollar range
>>
>>994787
It depend if you want to fuck with the penny stocks
>>
>>994787
Well, it sort of depends.
I sold an oil contract (1,000 barrels) today, the monetary requirement on that was about $5,000.
I could have bought a block (1,000 shares) of an equivalent value ($36) company for about $9,000.
In both cases, a movement of 10 cents will net you $100.
>>
>>994788
I've always had the opposite approach; if you're going to fuck with penny stocks, you may as well go in big assuming you're willing to lose your money anyway. Investing 20 bucks in ASTI and having it rise to 100 in a 15 day span is great but having 500 rise to 2500 is even more magnificent. That's how you 'make money'. If you're wanting to scope the market and find something reliable, invest a moderate amount in pretty large name companies.

I'm not a professional by any means. I just do this for fun and for the most part, I do decently enough.
>>
Any insights or predictions on what ASTI is gonna do come next week? Hold past the 14th?

>>
>>994876
sorry, meant the 15th. Said the 14th because I was thinking of the beginning of the week.
>>
>>994893
Well, chances are ASTI is going to do well after the military contracts keep flowing, and especially if US troops will keep their asses in the Middle East, but we're interested in the short-terms gains and I see them only during the next week peak
>>
>>994899
Do you think it would be smart to sell what I can when they first peak next week and then rebuy if it eventually dips from all the other people selling?
>>
>>994899
They never set up any actual sale contacts with the military. They just were granted a contract that allows them to expedite the selling process IF the government decides to buy anything from them. Chances are it's not going to rise like people on this board are hoping it to.

ok, what is the plan for ASTI? Obviously the stock is going to burn on Monday because no one will want to buy it from you. Just brace yourself and hope that the NASDAQ Panel will allow ASTI to continue their existence?
>>
>>996162
I don't think that I can just pull out.
1. My commissions for both transactions is going to be ~$90
2. After Hours: 0.167 Down -0.0075 (4.30%)
3. pre-market will be even lower and I will be able to sell at 0.15
4. So I'm going to lose at least $1k in that case

Well, I feel kind of relieved regarding the ASTI after studying posts of people who actually know about them a little bit more than us.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/Ascent-Solar-Technologies-ASTI-8687/
So the only thing that can stand between us and ASTI gainz is the nasdaq panel who won't approve another extension. But I guess I'm willing to bet my shekels on it, because ASTI technologies have good potential

jeez that site is even more unintuitive to navigate than 4chin

i'm a noob, can someone explain to me how this isn't going to be awful for ASTI? it sounds like from the form that they're on notice for literally not being valuable enough. even if they're granted the extension (and why would they, their stock value has plummeted in the past six months since they were first put on notice), isn't this just going to shake people's faith in the company further and cause people to dump their stock in the short term? Is this government contract really going to turn things around that much? from what little I read, it didn't even sound like they were actually making an immediate sale to anyone, just that it would be easier for government agencies to buy their shit in the future

somebody talk me down off the ledge

From all of my two weeks of investing experience, and my armchair group psychology degree, I feel that everyone is thinking the same thing. There may be a mass selloff which will drive down the price. Maybe you can follow the herd, but once the stock gets cheap, you can rebuy it at a lower price. Of course, when this will happen, or if it doesn't sink like a paper ship with lead sails is way beyond my completely limited experience. That said, I have RH on a limit buy for .11.

And the meme will become a truth.

Everybody thought that Pepe would never make it as a meme, I remember when people said it'd never take off, it was just a dumb frog, but look where we are now LOOK WHERE WE ARE

hey gamblers if you want a risky stock with huge potential consider $KTOV.

KTOV works on drugs that are for osteoporosis. Currently they are in phase 3 and this TUESDAY they will be having a press conference in Tel Aviv at 7 am EST to discuss the phase 3 interim results. This company has only been public since November so their stock price is pretty low. If this news goes well this could easily jump 100% like most new pharmaceuticals do on good news.

remember:
-new company with a promising drug
-interim results Tuesday 7AM EST
-huge risk / reward potential
(the risk is not so high if you set a tight stop loss on tuesday)

I'm expecting this stock to run on monday like these companies do before big news reports.

Hey /rgt/. 20 year old NEET here. I've been considering investing in the stock market for a while, but I'm not sure where exactly to start.
I've read a few passages here http://www.thestreet.com/topic/47701/how-to-invest-in-stocks.html so I have been understanding the market a bit more. As much as I'd like to think it's as easy as "invest in the markets people say are going to break out and wait for the money to roll in", I get the feeling I'm going to have to get off my lazy ass and do more work.
I haven't opened a brokerage account yet, but I'm probably close to doing so. I guess what I'm trying to get to is how can I not completely fuck up at the stock market?
>>
>>997108
constant reading and practice will help you.
if you read everything on investopedia you would know more then 90% of people posting here. next thing after reading is open an account with RH and put $100. Watching stocks will incite fear in you and you will need to disregard your emotions when trading or you will make many mistakes. Practice practice practice
>>
>>997114
Guess it's best to read up before doing anything.
Out of curiosity, I was also wondering how legit something like this is http://www.thestreet.com/story/13394832/1/buy-these-5-stocks-now-to-catch-the-breakouts.html
I can't shake the feeling that I can't fully trust articles like this.

I'm slightly concerned about the ASTI delisting with NASDAQ. They already got an extension and this would be their second extension. From what I've been told a companies first extension is easy to get but how hard is a second extension to get? Furthermore the ASTI received a patent on the 8th of Dec yet management didn't put out a pr. Why are they holding onto that information?
>>
>>997202
>it won't be just gambling
It will if he goes with Robin Hood, like your moron ass is suggesting.
>>
>>997246
What's the problem with Robin Hood?
>>
>>997246
please explain why robinhood is considered gambling? is it not a brokerage? what makes it gambling? the fact that he cant trade futures on it or short stocks? Id say that's good he cant do that so he doesn't fuck himself. All of his trades are free too. You're a moron
>>
>>997120
don't read articles like that, they won't help you. use websites like that only to get news from stocks you already own and have chose to purchase because you have done your research on the companies.

for example I would suggest looking in to the companies sunedison and solar city as energy is expected to thrive this year.
>>
>>997251
It's not an app for investing or trading, just gambling.
Investing is long term enough (or should be, anyway) that paying a $7 commission every 20 years or so doesn't bother anyone.
Trading requires not only large amounts of capital, but also a brokerage that offers full access to the markets. No serious trader would use RH because there's so much you can't do with them.
That's why the people who use it are gamblers, not investors or traders, and why directing people to it is identical to shilling for a Vegas casino.
>>
>>997264
Nice circular reasoning there. The only thing I see wrong with it is that it does not have access to all markets. And you can do long term with RH, I don't see why not. Other than not having to pay an arbitrary trading fee.
>>
>>997265
How many markets aren't open? Is it a lot?
>>
>>997273
As far as I can tell, only Nasdaq is listed. Not even foreign stocks can be purchased. Maybe that'll change a bit when the Ausfag version is released. Can't do stuff like commodities, futures, bonds, and the other neat stuff more experienced know about. That said, this guy is criticizing RH because it doesn't require some arbitrary minimum balance and doesn't charge an arbitrary fee to trade.
>>
>>997274
Hell, I think as long as I can attempt to make money off the stock market, I'm good.
Would it be stupid of me to think I can do this for a living and make a fuckton, though?
>>
>>997214

pastebin that shit. thursday and friday's shitty performance has my confidence shaken
>>
>>997276

>>
>>997282

>>
>>997308

4chan
>>
>>997317
too bad I can't find anyone who has anything similar. I'd buy just for the novelty.
>>
>>997265
It's not circular reasoning, it's actually pretty simple.
There's nothing "wrong" with Robin Hood, assuming you know what you're getting in to. Namely, an app that lets you use partial access to markets in order to gamble.
I could care less about a brokerage having an "arbitrary fee", and certainly wouldn't rip on one because they don't have one.
With regard to RH and it's problems, if you think it's not gambling to have your positions move without you being able to react, you're dumber than I thought.
No one with half a brain would want their stock to crash while they can do nothing about it, because RH won't give them access.
>>
>>997346
What doesn't Robinhood let you do that you wouldn't be able to access (sell) your stocks?
>>
>>997352
Pre and after hours markets.
That's an hour and a half in the morning before the open, and 4 hours after the close. This is when earnings, mergers, etc are announced, causing stocks to skyrocket or plummet.
Since you can't access via RH, anything you held would be at the mercy of the market.
>>
>>997361
Gotcha.
>>
>>997361
I never use pre and after because pricing is usually quite inadequate and the volume is very low anyway.
>>
>>997361
>Real investors put in large capital once a year
>not having access to your investments for a few hours will destroy you

So which is it? Is investing about holding onto assets for long term, in which case not having access to after hours won't hurt because it will fluctuate plenty in the months/years you hold it, or is it all about making fast plays in AH? It's not even circular it's just contradictory.
>>
>>997486
It all depends.
If something is moving 10-20%, you can bet I'll be involved regardless of wide spreads. For me, "wide" probably means 15-25 cents.

>>997497
It's the difference between investing and trading.

Investors should only be adding or rebalancing infrequently, as moving things around tends to be counterproductive.
Traders, on the other hand, need constant access to positions, as they tend to deal in far more volatile securities and instruments.

So your last line sums it up, minus your idiot snark.
>Investing is about holding assets for long term
>trading is about making fast plays

It seems contradictory because most people can't do both.

Jesus man. Only memes and a lot of dreams will do thad

Obvious joke. I'm expecting to lose my ass. I'm desiring to trade straight beta boy.

That class is more about making models for costing products and services, well at least it was for me.

Some of the stuff can be applied to trading, but you would be better off with studying how to look a companies
financial statements and actually understand what everything means.

My new product
A small, sleek and portable kitchen appliance with easy pre-set buttons that'd heat up your Mexican tortilla chips to that classic restaurant-style warmth, that could easily be tucked away in a cabinet.
>>
>>998483
Fundamental analysis is a part of what I'm learning. I'm just studying it more thoroughly to bolster my math skills for my comp. engineering degree.

Aww man. I really wanted ASTI to get to .14

fuk u! ASTI to the moon baby!

>tfw a stock jumps up and down all day then the moment you buy in a dip it goes flat

At least it didn't keep falling I guess
>>
>>998485
Hmm, I'm interested. add me on aim real quick and we can discuss your product's future. Now im a businessman, so no cussing and no alacahol drink. Just straight business. Now I've got a jerky shotp downtown that does good busines, but im thinking your product, with an added feature like an auto-salter for the chops, would be a great item to potentially sale to my clientel, of which are buyers of premium jerky and other snacks. We can talk about loans and the crowdfunding later.
>>
>>998511
>I've got a jerky shop downtown
This sounds like the beginning of a crank call.
>>
I've spent a lot of time lurking here, and enough time posting in these shitty threads to know I'm never going to actually learn anything about investing or economics here. Does anyone know of a place that has forum discussion without shitty memes and NEETs?
>>
>>998516
Go to r/personalfinance on reddit. Tell them them your life story and ask questions in the general direction you want to go.

I'm considering trying RH so I can at least get a bit of experience in the trading business without having to pay for any commission. I don't know if this is in RH's FAQ but I thought I'd ask these here.
1) If I decide to open a different brokerage account, would there be any way to close the RH one?
2) Does RH (and any other brokerage services) accept deposits from savings accounts, or do I need a checking account?

MBA fag here. Not sure how you guys sleep at night, buying these stocks that you know nothing about. At least keep a suicide hotline speed dial handy.
>>
>>998549
I wondered about that too.
Turns out it's pretty low stakes, so no worries.
>>
If you guys aren't investing in Solar City and SUNE yet, you're doing it wrong. Solar City is going to rocket through 2016 and SUNE is going to make it big in the industry. They're closing deals left and right.

Smart move. Expect solid gains after their next PR
>>
>>998595
Did you even see ASTI's financials? They stink. Despite tripling their sales in 2014 vs 2013, they still managed to increase their operating loss.

How can you possibly have confidence in a such a poor-performing company?
>>
So how does stop loss work. I just set the price that I want and it will auto sell if it goes below that.
>>
>>998611
>How can you possibly have confidence in a such a poor-performing company?
Because they just got into GSA which means they can sell their product to any government structure?
>>
>>998624
And perhaps they'll increase their administrative overhead with it, incurring a larger loss, still? Like they already did?
>>
>>998612

Basically.

It's like saying "this level is the most I'm comfortable losing if my trade shits the bed".

It'll create a sell stop below the price you bought at and then execute if someone's limit bid hits that price.

I've done my analysis and I want you all to invest in the biotech company MEI Pharma. Stock ticker is MEIP. Should post big returns in the near future. Stay tuned for more information regarding the company.

I bought NWL last week and now I've lost over 12% of my investment. Looking at their 1-year chart, though, they always dip and go right back up to higher than they were at before. However, with them buying out Jarden and the interest rate Hike coming, I somehow doubt that the stock will recover anytime soon. What do you guys think? Should I sell it now and cut my losses? I haven't sold stock for a loss yet and it just feels plain wrong. And sad. If I sell this today, I will have lost nearly all of what I've gained in my other stocks since I started last month. :(
