I have a dilemma /biz/.

You see, where I work I have fully self-reported hours and self-reported overtime. Nobody supervises me and I browse /biz/ and read books about stocks all day at work.

But every week I panic over how much overtime to report. Obviously, I could be there as much as I want, but since nobody ever sees me I don't even have to do that and can simply claim I did.

But I never know how much overtime to claim. I get paid $45 per hour, but one time I claimed an extra 2 hours per day for a month and was told by someone in the office that it was unusually high, so to avoid suspicion again I brought it down the next month. Now I'm at roughly an hour and 15 minutes extra per day being claimed.

Is that reasonable?

How much should I claim? It bums me out that I'm "losing" a potential few hundred a month when I bring it down but panic about being fired or something when it goes up. What should I do?

I don't spend $100k per year. Something like $28k annual goes to pre-tax investments ($18k 401k + max HSA + max Roth IRA), I pay ~$350 per month on health insurance and other voluntary deductions (dental, vision, hearing, etc.), and finally, Uncle Sam takes approximately $3k per month in taxes.
