>tfw trying to get a job lined up right now before I graduate

Feels bad bro.

What's your GPA? I bet it's below 3.8
What's your major?
I went to grad school. Currently 3rd year genetics PhD student. I chose grad school for two reasons
> PhD guarantees six figure job 5 years after grad (if you publish well)
>You get paid <peanuts> to be a student
I am also a computational biologist. 6 years programming. Perl, Python, R, UNIX (bash shell), AWS, machine learning. If I can't score a faculty job one day I'm definitely going to score a quant job either at some finance firm or some other data mining gig.
>tfw already a Nature author
>learn some skills and money will come. Get rich quick only works with large equity which I don't really have.
What are you're interests?
I have 12k in meme Vanguard Roth IRA
>>1088011
I'm a econ/math fag.
My interests are in writing, journalism, and economic policy. I'm trying to break into either of those fields in DC, where I'm originally from. There are always plenty of jobs in that area, so I'm not too worried about not finding something there. It's just stressful trying to find a job.
My GPA will be a 3.3 upon graduation.
>inb4 money is the only thing that matters
I don't want to be consultingfag rich, but I do want to be well off.

Get a PhD as a back up
3.0 is usually the cut off for all the grad schools. If you're good at math you'll ace the GREs
>>1088002
>Try to get internships while you're still in school
>Don't forgot to network like a mother fucker with professors
>Work part time to go full time post-grad (I did this, it worked well)
>>1088011
>tfw ABT dropout. Making $120k doing data science after 19 months.
Academic freedom is just a meme, brah.
Also an Econ major. Will graduate late this year.
Are there any jobs that you can get with a 4 year Econ degree that don't require sitting in a cubicle or office all day?
I have a high GPA, but my my quantitative skills are in the toilet. I hate math. What job could I get?
>>1088206
that does sound nice but i'm a huge nerd.
>tfw cozy in academia
>>1088232
lol all business jobs are gonna be cubicle life wtf were u expecting. It's either cubicle life or physicall labor, take your pick.

Where do you want to sit then?
Get a job in a factory or something then.

Yeah I might just go the physical labor route after I finish my degree. Thinking about getting a CDL and OTR trucking. I'd rather be underemployed than start a career I hate. Sucks wasting time and money going to one of the top public universities in the country and realizing this now tho.

Do offices not exist anymore? I haven't worked in 8 years but it used to be possible to get an office with a door and a window if you were lucky
>>1090087
It's all open office plan now, senpai. Businesses don't trust you to not watch porn all day so they got rid of offices and even cubicles. If you happen to need some peace and quiet to concentrate, you're pretty much fucked.
