Reliable, small and easy to conceal, and pretty easy to clean. If you're just looking for something small for home defense or a conceal carry, I'd recommend it.

The shield is a really good gun. It comes down to what you want to use it for. The shield is really meant more for concealed carrying, it's not the easiest to shoot but it's easy to hide. If you are just looking for a gun to take to the range and shoot or home defense I'd recommend a full size Smith and Wesson M&P. Honestly with any modern day handgun you can't go wrong with Smith, Sig, HK, Glock or any of the other big names.

Pretty much this.
>>
It depends what you want from the gun. Like cars guns have their roles. You wouldn't take a prius to race a mustang.

It's a decent gun the main problem with it is the trigger is not the best. HOWEVER don't buy into the trigger nazi shit. Whatever gun you get you have to train with it. A better trigger will only do so much.

I would recommend the sig p320 which is roughly the same price. However you can interchange parts and the frame making it more versatile. The stock trigger is also damn good for a striker fired gun.

If the p320 isnt your choice I'd go glock pick your flavor they have a model for any role you can think of and the aftermarket is stupid but that also makes parts for it cheap. Having shot both the shield and glock 19 I personally found the 19 to be less shit but not great but again train with your gun and get used to it.

Another thing to note is consider the used market. Plenty of people buy a gun shoot maybe a few 100 rounds through it in a year then it sits in a safe till they decide to sell it. You can save 50-100 or more bucks which is more ammo for training. Also if you get the gun and don't like it you spent less and have the potential to lose less as well.

One is light and travels fast, one is heavy and travels slow.
One is .30 caliber one is .45 caliber.
9mm generally has more capacity for a given size.

Both will get the job done.
>>
>>726759811
Why pussy 9mm? Can't handle a man's caliber, need to buy that euro faggy shit?

Springfield, Smith are both solid. Springfield Xd has a ton of really good trigger mods available. Sig has the 320 which is also a solid option but more expensive

Concealed carry guns won't usually have a safety. The "safety" is on the trigger.

I have the shield in 9mm and 40. Both are awesome guns. Some people will say not to get a plastic gun but Glocks are some of the best guns around and have been for the last 50 years. I'd personally get a glock unless not having a safety is a deal breaker. Only thing about the shield that I do not like of how annoying it is to clean the firing pin. Whereas the glocks back plate slides off with ease and the firing pin slides out with no problem

>>726759811
S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 w/ crimson Trace integral laser. Not a heavy hitter but very effective at the ranges typically involved in personal protection, and something about seeing that red dot zeroed in on their chest tends to calm people down. Also plant a nice pattern in a 2" spread. One shot it the chest will likely discourage assailant, 7 shots in a 3" pattern will send them to hell.

Ever see a body cam video of a veteran cop involved in a shootout? He's panting like a fat kid running for the ice cream truck

That's why cops are taught to mag dump center mass. Adrenaline kicks in and shit gets wild and crazy
>>
>>726764938
Carried a Sig, Walther, Beretta and S&W. Loved the Sig, might go back. Considering a Kimber Micro 9. Have to stay very low profile though due to circumstances beyond my control. Constitutional Carry state, but corporate rules to work around.
>>
>>726768747
Like I said all it takes is 1 in the head and 2 to the chest. Love my accuracy
>>
>>726765346
Some departments specifically approved for personal carry only w/o safety or laser, so S&W offered the option. Both Bodyguard and Shield are double action only with stiff pull, so safety is redundant.
>>
>>726769037

my nigga
my setup is damn near identical, except my frame is coated in OD green.

Ive done all the courses and log at least7 hours a week in the range, I dont trust myself as thankfully ive never been in that situation. and judging by the fact you think a fucking course is going to prepare you for the adrenaline rush of an attack tells me neither have you

>Tl;dr glock
Shield is good, but I'd recommend glock. People like to shit on glock, but they're fantastic. There's a reason many police forces use them.
They're reliable as fuck. I own one, my brothers own them. My father has owned them for years. Not one of us has ever had a problem with them. They have internal safeties, they have external safeties, they shoot straight, they never jam up, they're amazing. I cannot recommend them enough. If anyone in this thread has ever had a problem with a glock
>that they own
Please tell me, because I've never had a single issue. I cannot recommend them enough
>>
>>726769823
But I have been there in real life. And I stick to what I say
>>
>>726770022
Glocks have become the bud light of pistols. They're well known enough that their popularity creates its own momentum when there are better options out there for roughly the same money
>>
>>726770022
I've just had problems with all those extra features you talk of. Springs in trigger assembly
>>
>>726770066
so you've been attacked, and shot and killed a man with one accurate headshot? yeah sure
>>
>>726761217
Either a 9mm or a .45 will get the job done if you shoot straight, but if raw power is your goal, than .45. It had a lot more oomph at the cost of less capacity, but nothing hits like a .45 hollow point. Two shots to the chest will stop whatever is coming, save for a gorilla on pcp.
>>
>>726770483
>save for a gorilla on pcp.

Translation

>If you live in Detroit or Chicago go for .357 mag master race
>>
>>726759811
My first gun was a Glock 19 and now I have many more guns but the Glock is still my favorite. However, gun snobs in threads like this will shit all over you.
>>
>>726761973
Speed doesn't make a huge difference unless your target is +150 yards away. As far as a beefy round to stop something, .45 hands down.
>>
>>726770066
I never said one accurate headshot. I said 1 in the head and 2 in the chest is all it ever took. Never said I was attacked but I've been in that situation and I had to react.
>>
>>726770327
Yeah, it's a bit to wrap your head around, but it's not as bad once you get a good knowledge of it and know what you're doing. I don't mean that in a rude way, also. I know it sounds corny, but i drilled with dissasimbally and reassembly and it helped a bunch.

Go ask /k/ you dumb shit. Ffs

Asking /b/ for firearms advice is like asking a homeless man how to own a home.
>>
Shield is good for concealed carry but if you don't have to worry about concealment consider a Glock 19.
>>
>>726770022
Good for occasional use but the chamber is unsupported so if you are going shoot thousands of rounds a year I'd go with something else. LE carries them but replace them about ever 2 years.
>>
>>
>>726772171
You get good and bad ones no matter what brand. Just had best luck with my Berettas. Had trouble from my Glocks. But could have been easily reversed
>>
>>726767451
fuck no! there are so many better small 9mm's out there!
>>
>>726766726
Negative! the slid mounted safety sucks, too many sharp edges. If you want a double action go Sig, HK but not a beretta
>>
>>726759811
Just get a Glock 19 or a Beretta 92fs.
>>
>>726759811
Don't get a 9mm if you're looking for personal defense. I don't care who you are, a .22 to literally anywhere is gonna fucking hurt like hell. Just the sight of a gun will usually scare anyone off. Also, don't kill a dude over a mugging. Just don't. At least aim for his shoulder or something.

Pic related: best handgun for concealed carry imho. the 5 shot .22lr HG
>>
>>726759811
I've got a berretta nano. Its so choice.
>>
>>726772849
Yes the safety sucked but just my overall pick of all my 9s. Never had an HK so I can't comment on that 1
>>
>>726773086
wow, you know jack shit about guns and self defense. Do some research, educate yourself. Start by reading pretty much anything by Massad Ayoob and then comment.
>>
>>726773032
Beretta 92FS and Glock 19 first and second hand guns. I agree are both good. Just loved my Beretta more
>>
>>726773122
HK P30, is comfortable to shoot, double/single and a spring mounted safety.Sig 229 or 226 in 9 are great if you want a hammer. ton's if you want a striker fire. Betters is just outdated and not well designed
>>
>>726773086
>don't kill a dude over a mugging

Fuck that. Save the taxpayers the money and save yourself the ass ache of possibly being sued

The problem with a .22 is a retarded jury isn't going to understand why you shot them 6 times with a .22 as opposed to twice with a .45
>>
>>726773424
Yep although I think the glock is more reliable at least the Beretta is not fugly like the glock.
>>
>>726773424
HK45 will be next new handgun. Maybe can report some day later
>>
>>726773701
good gun, comfortable and reliable. I prefer my Sig 227 but they HK45 is a close second
>>
>>726769110
im really high and think you are james bond right now

>hi james bond
>luv u jimmy b
>>
>>726773588
>>726773424
seriously, the beretta is a crap gun. There's a reason the military hates it. If you think it's the top end then you need to shoot a lot more guns!
>>
>>726773086
Fucking stupid comment anyone who knows firearms knows if you legally carry a gun and have to draw on someone you don't shoot to injure it's not how things work if it's not serious enough to kill over you don't pull it. Tunnel vision and adrenaline dump make it hard to aim which is why you are taught center mass aim big trying to target a shoulder results in missing the target and being liable for the round you just fired
>>
>>726773086
Litigation wise, good point.

>>726773260
>muh stoppin powa!

If you knew anything about guns, you would know that if you EVER aim a firearm at another human, you shoot to kill. If you do not intend on killing them, don't point a fucking firearm at them.
>>
>>726773978
If you think this is a good point educate yourself!

Noob... that's laughable, a noob is someone who would recommend a .22lr

.22 has little likelihood of stopping an attack, seriously you fucking moron educate yourself. Read a book, take a class, hunt, actually shoot a gun. If you think a .22 will likely stop an attack you are high. Hell most handgun rounds won't stop an attack. There is ton's of research on this. That's who a controlled pair to center mass is the recommended initial attempt to stop in EVERY training program
>>
>>726774334
Nailed it
>>
>>726774128
that is one factor but the poor design is the overriding factor. It was a bad choice when they replaced the 1911. The Sig 320 selected by the Army should work way better for them
>>
>>726774334
Nah you can use guns for more than just killing.
I agree you should always shoot to kill but it's not bad to point a gun at someone and tell them to leave you alone instead of shooting.
>>
>>726774664
They better not be within 10 feet if you try this or you're gonna get your ass handed to you. If you present the gun it is probably game on.
>>
>>726774664
•All weapons must be treated as if they are loaded
• never point a weapon on anything you do not intended to kill
•keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until sights are on target and ready to shoot.
• always be aware of your target and beyond.
Plain and simple no you don't draw unless you're using it

>>726774609

>>
>>726774993
No someone who takes the responsibility of owning a firearm seriously and knows when and how to use it.

>$32,000 a year

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Statistics Survey, as of May 2015, the average annual wage for police and sheriff's patrol officers was $61,270

I'm sorry but if someone comes to my doorstep with nothing but his fists and the will to harm i'm not gonna duke it out it's go'in straight to guns if he's armed or not. And in that scenario I'll tell him to fuck off.
>>
>>726775732
PS - I live in a rural area.
>>
>>726774928
yup. you pull out a gun, and you use it. you dont know if the other guy is armed, so he could pull his and shoot. then he has your gun, your wallet and your life. shoot to kill.
>ALWAYS
>>
>>726776012
How could someone be stupid enough to have a gun on somebody watch him go to pull his gun and not kill him?
>>
>>726759811
I've got an XDM 9mm compact and an XDM .40 full size and love them both. The XDM's do have a bit heavier trigger but it's not going to matter because in reality in a stressful situation studies show that you're first couple shots are going into the ground as you're drawing and bringing your gun level. And the palm safety can help keep you from getting shot with it if you're wresting for a gun.
>>
>>726776213
yes. trust me, yes. plus, action is far faster than reaction.
>>
>>726776213
sorry, misread that. but someone could be that dumb. there are 7 and a half billion people on this planet and not too many are that bright.

Would love to have a hi power to go with 1911 but damn that price tag.
>>
>>726777292
That's why you never pull a gun unless you use it. Hope none of you ever are put in that situation but if you see a gun you better react
>>
>>726778470
I own a cz75 b I'll warn you not to dry fire it to much with the default firing pin because it'll ruin it.
>>
Shit I've rolled Dubs 4 times ITT. Goodnight anons
>>
>>726778772
I understand that if you're not being the main target of the enemy then them not knowing you have a gun is a good thing but if somebody comes at you I think that's the time to draw.
>>
>>726759811
Shields are awesome, but i switched to a sig p320. It's a lot bigger, but I think the extra size is worth it.
>>
>>726777292
im agreeing with you. if you feel that your life is legitimatly in danger, than you shoot to kill
>>
>>726779279
Well yeah that's the thing I'm not gonna shoot somebody unless I need to stop them and if they come at me with no gun in there hand I'm really not gonna want to take a life in that moment and at the same time I wouldn't wanna duke it out because they could snatch my gun from me if we where doing that. this scenario seem really unsolvable if you don't want to duke it out, you don't want to kill the unarmed guy, and you only draw if you're going to kill.
>>
When I was shopping around for my first CCW around a year ago, the three I saw that were all fairly comparable were the S&W shield, the Ruger LC9s, and the SA xds. Would definitely recommend looking into those if you want something similar to the shield you were looking at.
