I used to work in a call center but I didn't do cold calls I would caption phone calls for deaf people. Honestly that job sucked donkey dick, the cubicles weren't fun and the job was repetitive. It depends on the job I guess. The job I had thought the business came to you so it was annoying because you didn't work on your own shit you worked on other people shit when it came to you.

Then what you do after work is talk to a cognitive behavioral psychologist and attend mindfulness meditation classes. Once you've done that, you find a social hobby, get some friends and hang out with them.
>>
>>724498187
>>724497814
You don't have to do a "social hobby".
If you have to see people all day and just want to be alone you should do some "me" time at your free time.
You should just have a hobby which differs from your job. If you're sitting in an office all day you should go outside, e.g. hiking or gardening.
>>
my last job as a network analyst involved each person having their own cubicle, which i totally enjoyed

They're hella more comfortable than working outside in the blazing sun and the frigid cold.

AND they are typically soul-sucking hellscape because of the corporate culture that typically comes with cubicals. Do they always have a shitty corporate culture where you're nothing more than a meaningless and unappreciated cog? No.

This just in, most people don't love their work.

Interested if you still get offices like this? In the ten years I've been working I've not yet encountered anywhere that's not open plan with hot desking - that includes the executive headquarters of a mutli-billion dollar construction company, and construction isn't exactly known for being with the times.
>>
>>724502574
Looks all right, if rather gravitationally inverted.
>>
>>724494701
I work in an open plan office; around 50 people in a space far too small to handle that amount of people but i digress.

I can tell you without any hesitation i'd rather be in a cubical. Jesus fucking christ open plan offices are horrific.
You have no privacy, very little space, you get interrupted constantly whether by people talking to you or talking to somebody sat near you, the noise can be unbe-fucking-lievable as people talk louder to be heard over the people talking louder to be heard over the people talking louder etc etc etc; it just spirals out of control until people are practically shouting and there are no walls or barriers to deflect or muffle the sound.
I'm far less effective at my job because half the time i'm either trying to concentrate while the office is yelling at each other to be heard or the person sat less than 3 feet away from me is talking to another person or somebody is talking on the phone.
I'm one in a line of 4 desks connected side by side with no barrier at fucking all between us and it's a heavily paper based job. You can imagine how fucking annoying that gets.
Give me a god damn cubicle any day.

>You just discovered the reason people have open plan offices.

>>
As a military guy, I somewhat envy cubicle work and office jobs. I mean, you have set hours, weekends off, you work in the air-condition, get to browse the internet, work inside and not suffer from unbearable heat/cold, have potentially hundreds of friends within walking distance...I could go on.

But then, when I'm stuck in the office instead of doing my job I really hate it. But I think it's partly because all the computers are open and nobody has a designated one. I kind of envy office people who have their own desk and a little privacy.

Honestly if you're close to home and get to spend every night in your bed and weekends doing what you want, I'd say it's a pretty sweet gig. Trust me there are worse.
>>
>>724505053

>>
>>724505366
Shit dude you're absolutely right. You'd be surprised how hard it is to remember that with all the bullshit you gotta wade through. They really get you with that sweet ass retirement, and holy fuck do you pay for it. I mean multiple divorces, wrecked families, driven insane by bullshit, but yeah, that retirement can't be beat. Thanks for being there to put a positive spin on it all.
>>
>It can be depressing at times

You start out all in the same cube areas, you make friends with your coworkers and all of the sudden you get promoted and have to sit in another part of the office
You move somewhere else, but they sit in the same cubes and build friendships/relationships at work while you get moved around, than company says you can work at home every week and come into the office 1-2 times a week if you want. They force you to change cubes, than work from home while the other people stick with each other and enjoy their time in the office. You eventually change cubes and get closer to them again, but they look at you like wtf are you doing here and why don't you just keep working from home rather than coming into the office. Eventually they don't even care about what you work on and they start ignoring you when you want to assign work tasks, and projects. They keep ignoring you while you sit away in a cube somewhere, thinking of looking for another job and not ending up in the same position. You also think of ending it all and killing yourself, but the act of drinking your pain away sounds like a better idea for a few months. Till you lose your job in that cube, and you spend time looking for another cube only to be miserable, afraid, and stressed out even though you are a highly trained engineer

>Will I be ok?
>>
>>724505579
Will do, I've gotten to point where the idea of an education doesn't scare the everliving shit out of me, so I'm hopeful.
>>
>>724505411

Sorry to hear about your breakdown. Hope you enjoy working in the woods. That does seem like the type of job that let's you be relatively alone for a majority of the time. That could be somewhat enjoyable.

I'm basing all of this off of an X-Files episode I saw recently so what do I know

Well shit happens, I'm just happy I decided to deal with it. Also it's not really about being alone, it's about me doing something that interests me and energizes me psychologically. Working in the woods would do that for me.
But thanks for the sentiment, I hope things work out for you as well.

A gif does not necessarily mean that it is an animated image. A gif is also the lowest quality image you can save, thereby saving space.
>>
>>724506827
That's really what you gotta do, after all.

Although, if I could start over I very well may just find a way to make a lot of money and do that and retire early. As great as the military retirement is I'd like to think I could have become a millionaire by 35 or sooner on my own. But meh, you don't know these things until it's too late I guess.

Enjoy your times in the woods, I'm not into nature and shit but it does sound pretty pleasant to do that for a living.

I've been in office jobs since 2001. I don't mind it. Every 2 hours I take a walk across a few floors and find a nice clean bathroom and sit there and nap.
My peers are all sales reps so our portion of the floor is usually loud and engaging. Everyone is having a good time and we make a good amount of money.

I've worked in shit cubicle farms before and the work is depressing and soul sucking.

Find a cubicle job that challenges your mind. It's not bad and the women are fucking gorgeous.
>>
>>724507411
Fuck I didn't notice. I did get quad 9's tho just last week which had never happened to me before.

I've bought several books on investing and am considering getting my master's in economics...I honestly can't decide if it's like astrophysics and all way over my head or something I could get good at with enough practice. Probably safer to stay in the military and milk that sweet retirement one day. Enjoy your internship tho!

>>724507726

>>
>>724507885
They do a lot of tuition assistance where you only have to pay for your books. I'm actually just beginning to look into it after resisting it for several years (I got burnt out on school early on, chasing good grades and what not). I don't know about economic stuff exactly.
>>
>>724505053
i'm a civilian and i only get to browse the internet for work related purposes...not because we have firewalls or monitoring, but because i simply don't have time otherwise as all the difficult shit always falls to the dev team.

>sales needs a new feature...let the devs make it
>support gets a difficult call...let the devs do all the problem solving and be the client's IT guy for free
>marketing needs a list of product changes...the devs make those changes so they should also document them all for customers, support, and the management team
>managers need a product roadmap...they'll tell the devs how long they have to make it and rhetorically ask if it will be on schedule
>everyone else needs someone to shoot the breeze with...so they'll come down to the dev area since most people are at their desks

oh, did i mention i'm a software developer? at least my cubicle is reasonably quiet.
>>
>>724508353
Go ask whoever takes care of it anon, using the military to further your money earning capabilities while you are in there is a good idea. If you just leave and go for it on your own, you've lost an opportunity for an almost free education.

Thanks bud. My dad says the same thing, no one has ever offered to pay a cent of his education so he tells me all the time to use it.

I'm honestly not opposed to doing it anymore, I just need direction. I have no idea what to get my master's in. Economics, real estate, history, English, theology, MBA....the list goes on and on. But thank you for the encouragement, it's a great deal and I'd be dumb not to take advantage of it.
