That one is a 1968 Remington 870 Wingmaster. Wasn't cheap, around $550 because it was in pretty much new condition. My second 12 gauge was a used 1990s 870 Police model that was used in a prison, got that for under $300. Both are great guns, would recommend as first firearms. Ammo is relatively cheap and plentiful.

Get a .22 rifle like a Marlin model 60 or a Ruger 10/22. Don't start with a large caliber rifle. It can teach you to flinch which is hard to unlearn. Keep it simple and cheap. Learn what you like before spending a bunch of money.

An AR is not a large caliber rifle. The .223 is the exact same diameter bullet as the .22 and has about as much kick, which is none. Just go ahead and get a mid-range AR

I don't disagree with AR-15's being easy to shoot with virtually not recoil but I would still recommend a $200 .22 as a start to get the basics down. ARs are at an all time low price point so I would probably encourage the newbie to get a .22 and graduate to an AR within a couple months. Plus .06 a round vs .25-.30 a round is significant.

I just found one of these at a local Pawn shop... $1750. Partially because it was a US Navy version that had something special about it, can't remember what, but damn that is way too much for a gun that I have to use pussified .30-06 in. LOVE that gun., but will not be cheated for that much money just because it is a "collector's item." I USE all my guns, I don't buy guns I don't intend to use, and if I pay $1750 for a gun, I couldn't reasonably take it out to the quarry I shoot at and set it down on the ground like I do with my other guns. So unless I find one for maybe $650-700, then I am not really that interested. Fun and all, but not worth killing my bank account for something just because it's old and kinda cool. I'll just buy Somethign in 7.62x54mm instead. You know, a good old Mosin, the Soviet classic which costs like... a quarter of that?

I soecifically want the 9x18 makarov version because I want a few unique guns that less people own. Yes, I know the Makarov is not entirely rare, but it's not common, either, but that's why I really want the Tokarev. VERY few people have those, since ammo is pseudo-rare, except the Cabela's about 30ish mins away from my house always has a row of boxes, since few people ever buy them and they usually have at least one box of just about everything that has any sort of following.

Do you realize that the feds DO NOT CARE about you and your pissant little gun collections? Duck, I have 14, and they don't care about ME. They only care if you have illegal guns. Hell, I know a way to LEGALLY own a "full auto" gun in my state, Washington, where you can't even get full auto with the tax stamp and everything. You just buy a slide-fire stock, since it is still legal. Doubt it will be forever, but will be fun if I bother to get one. Just never seem to have the money at the right time. they're about $300 at the local gun store that sells them. Cops walk in there all the time and they don't care, so it's all legal. Like I said, the FBI only cares if you're posting shit like sawed-off shotguns or real full autos (M4/M16 type full autos). And yet you can legally own the GE minigun since it's electric and not a conventional gun in this country. Yeah, since Obama decided to ban all imports from USSR states and especially Russia, we can't get soviet weapons easy, and we rarely imported them since the round was uncommon and not that great.
