they chose their wording carefully. theyre fucking shameless.

im gonna link a website thats completely independent from Microsoft. inside it you can download a "program" that changes settings in your PC so its not "upgraded" to win10 automatically

https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

if you dont trust me, which you shouldnt, just google the site, google the website's creator, etc. that software can save your computer.

>>
I love it tbh
>>
>>721090223
Not a me problem. I've literally checked it all. From drivers to bad programs to hardware. Apparently this a giant problem in the community and there still isn't a fix. It's a problem with older computers and computers that have really high end hardware and run an HDD it doesn't really happen to those with SSD. It's been suspected that it may be an AHCI issue when they optimized windows 10 for SSD and it fucked up everything for memory and sends ng your computer to do some stupid shit
>>

Your opinion is irrelevant if you can't fix your own laptop. Especially concerning an operating system.

Ubuntu is dervived from Debian. Think of Ubuntu having more useful features that you would expect to have by default when installing an operating system.

Debian is basic and doesn't really include any friendly graphical software manager and is not great for beginners. Unlike Ubuntu, Debian doesn't make it easy to install proprietary drivers (Nvidia, AMD and some wireless networking cards).

Especially for businesses. Many of them big and small want to avoid any OS changes to avoid these problems. I know even some that still run XP, but they're on a intranet, so it's understandable.
>>
>>721091438

No. THE only correct answer. Linux is too diverse and developers are still hesitant to add linux support to their games. Steam works just fine on Linux, but not a lot of games do. Especially not the most recent releases.

If you use multi monitors, high resolution monitors or worse both, it's a nightmare. I have a 2k and 4k monitor setup and the system can't remain stable for over 24 hours. I've tried tons of things too like re-installing the operating system and changing hardware. Everything including the hardware is up to date and should be able to do it. It's a programming issue.
>>

I remember reading that Debian is the rock in which Ubuntu is derived. You're installing something.

Installing something writes to a disk.

That requires disk usage.

Those are the causes of the spikes.

I quit using Windows 10 because of the automatic updates.

I can leave it asleep but its on more checking for updates than it is being used. But if I turn it off all it wants to worry about is updates when I want to do something else.

It's not /great/, but it's not /bad/. Boots up in 15 seconds.
It's fast as fuck on an ssd.
I have an ok-tier laptop I bought for college that came with windows ten.
Put everything on a terabyte ssd and popped a terabyte hdd into the optical bay cause its 2017 who uses cds/dvds, and added 16 gb of ram.
I had to disable some shit so it wasn't cancer and so it didn't limit my frames in csgo but it works.
I get 100-150 frames on every map.
I ofc have a linux partition for coding and that's speedy as fuck on an ssd.

Hated it so far. Updates have fixed some of the issues since I got it year ago, but currently dealing with two major issues.

>install something
>random update later W10 uninstalls it for me
and
>shut down
>booting it makes it stuck on login screen until another restart

Also the amount of time I've had to go into the regedit to fix unwanted shit has gotten out of hand. Basic normie users probably don't care about or even notice some of the issues, but as power user (editing, drawing, recording) it sometimes drives me nuts.

The more I think about this the more retarded it gets. Being wrong isn't necessarily stupid but why pretend to understand something when you clearly don't. Why do you think you download a different driver for your particular operating system? You wouldn't even have to know anything about computers to notice that one. You really think even though the operating system hangs and explorer bugs out it must be the graphics driver just because the issue is related to screen size and number of monitors?

It's the opposite. Newer games support linux better. "Linux is diverse" is a misunderstood meme, a game built once will work on many distributions. Especially since most of them are debian based. And don't forget that when given a list of Linux distributions a lot of them are specialized (security, routers, data rescue, anonymity, development, scientific, etc) and those distros are usually irrelevant for actual desktop use. Not to mention a lot of distributions are simply based on another one and just have different default software and UI so they're basically the same.

Examples of how simple it is to build a Linux game
>unreal engine, unity, game maker, godot and many other game dev studios have a native cross platform export. Exporting to Linux is as easy as clicking a button
>Terraria (a popular indie game) fully supports Linux and it was made using Microsoft tools. We all know Microsoft is very anti-competitive and wants to lock down game developers to only export for windows and Xbox, yet terraria can be launched normally on Linux without using tools such as WINE. The Linux variant simply installs windows version and adds a few scripts to launch the game.
>OpenGL and Vulkan are cross platform and work on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android. Any developer who doesn't have a contract with Microsoft can and should use these tools to export to as many platforms as possible.

>>721091438
ZorinOS has WINE and PlayOnLinux pre-installed. It's basically "I'm a windowsfag, the OS". The current release is still in beta since it was released only a month ago so there are a few issues, especially if you don't update immediately.
Other than it you have Mint, Manjaro, KDE Neon and openSUSE m. All 4 are simple for former windows users and work fine.
