Do you guys stretch at all? I sure don't and now my legs keep cramping up after a few hours of skating. I'm not even old, just lazy and this fucking sucks.
>>
>>3080795
Im 25 and coming off an ankle surgery. If I don't stretch for at least 5-10 minutes, I can barely ollie. Once I loosen up Im good to go. Gotta stretch after the sesh as well to prevent unnecessary soreness.

So Ive been using baker wax i bought last year and its good skate wax but i ran out a month ago and bought another brick. When i scratched off the spraypaint on the first rub i realised they changed the formula to some garbage hard candle wax that doesn't stick to anything and just flakes off. Like i was rubbing a ledge and like a quarter inch layer of the entire brick slid right off. 1. What the fuck were baker thinking? 2. Whats a good brand of wax?

Yo esg what brand deck are you guys skating? I'm on a generic shop deck but it's getting old and want to get a brand name board. Which is your favorite?
>>
>>3082991
>>3082991
Just set a primitive up last night. My third one so far after trying almost, create, and antihero. It comes down to what works with your skating style and body mechanics. It's like buying a gun. All the recommendations won't help if you don't try different brands and shapes.
>>
>>3082991
i mostly skate blanks and while i can tell the difference between boards, i usually adjust to them over time so i don't have a favorite. at the moment i'm skating a habitat. the almost, enjoi and chocolate boards i've had were all pretty good
>>
Just got my first board/setup. The wheels I got are 52mm, seems a little small. I'm gonna keep them but I'm thinking of buying another set of bigger ones to learn how to skate with. Is 56mm not large enough/enough of a difference from 52? What do you guys suggest for a bigger wheel size to learn on. The board is like an 8.25 if it matters. Thanks for any help
>>
>>3083559
Don't worry about wheels. You don't know how to do anything that your wheelsize would affect. Put your wallet away and go skate.
>>
>>3083710

The guy at the shop told me small wheels get stuck on rocks and cracks and stuff. I didnt mean my post for tricks. But Tha k you for he advice anyway
>>
>>3082214
was jackson there
>>
>>3082991
buy a pro deck from a skater you like
>>
>>3083559
52 are perfect for learning on. you're not going to have problems with cracks until they've worn down to <45 mm, and buying anything bigger is going to make learning to ollie way harder
>>
>>3083559
1mm is a significant difference when it comes to wheels. if you want to spend the money, go ahead and get bigger wheels if you feel they're too small. it also depends on what you want to skate. generally, 52mm and below is a good size for street skating and 54mm up is recommended for transition/park. with bigger wheels, you'll be able to go faster with fewer pushes and maintain speed. smaller wheels are helpful with flips because they're lighter, and locking into grinds. you can however skate anything that feels right to you. i think louie barletta skates 49mm and a 7.5 board and he's good on street and transition
>>

IMO, If this is your very first go at skateboarding i'd say buy a complete from a reputable, big name skate company just because there is a possibility you wont stick with it. This way you can save some money if you don't continue. If you do keep at it you'll still have a good enough board to learn the basics on before you decide you want to build your own.

As an adult. I IMPLORE you to start doing some stretches before and after. When your buddy pulls a muscle or develops unnecessary scar tissue in his joints and you dont, youll thank me.
T. Anon still recovering from ankle surgery after 3 months because i thought stretching was a meme
>>
>>3086636
Been back for a few months. They released a run of 3 decks, have some clothes and a shoe right now.
>>
>>3086764
Its harder on a flatbar than on a ledge. Practice locking in on curbs until its first t. Then take it to the flatbar.
>>
>>3086793
>unnecessary scar tissue

like rodney mullen? what is that shit?

Also, skating around and starting slow qualifies as warming up. Stretches are only useful after warm-up, if you do them while unwarmed you could injure yourself.
>>
>>3086971
It's actually much more important to stretch after skating, but I agree. Fucked my leg up for a week once when I stretched it out before skating.
>>
>>3086971
Basically minor ankle rolls that healed on their own caused my ankle to "overheal" and grow sensitive scar tissue between the bones of my ankle that made it almost impossible to skate. Had a surgery to get it removed.
>>
>>3087044
>minor ankle rolls that healed on their own

uh-oh
>>
>>3087177
Stretch your ankles in every direction before each sesh and it will never be an issue. Before i needed surgery i though only drop skaters needed to baby their ankles. I was wrong. Stretch.
>>
>>3087381
>only drop skaters needed to baby their ankles

th-that's what I've been thinking too...
>>
>>3087381
Ex martial artist here, can confirm the bit about stretching your ankles and everything. Makes your calves work better, if that's sensical. In turn this leads to training making more of your legs bigger. Bigger legs = more pop. Monster legs = pop like that robust kid on kotr.
>>
>>3087428
Not to mention half of a good pop comes from a forceful and precise ankle flex.

whenever i fucking pop for an ollie i like do a half pop where the tail of the board doesn't even hit the ground and i just jump up.
>>
>>3092697

your foot hitting it should be like a piston. down and then up. don't just stomp your foot down and keep it there

i will admit that every single ollie tutorial on the internet is trash. they're all some sort of

>"you basically put your feet here on the board then just sort of ollie"

every one of them is trash.. whatever tho
>>
>>3092742
nah my problem is my foot pushes downward but not enough to touch the ground.... but also not enough to even get the tail of the board to touch the ground. there's no pop sound, i get a tiny bit of air because even though the tail doesn't hit the ground it's still going toward the ground and my front foot is leveling out like the 2 inches of air i get.
>>
>>3092750
I had the same problem until one time i grabbed a hold of a hand rail with both hands and I tried to ollie. You won't fall from it and you can focus on your feet better
>>
>>3092772
yea i practiced like that before and got some nice ollies but as soon as i try a moving ollie i just fuck up
>>
>>3092777
if you can do it on the rail you can do it moving man, just commit

a moving ollie should be easier than in place

that sequence that the anon posted was good. The only criticism left standing and/or given any validation, is that "he's doing it like a robot". But nobody really discusses the actual takeover by Nike. I told you all that eventually you'd have deck brands embedded and now, speak of the devil, who do you think will be backing Primitive and Numbers? Maybe it will take a little while for decks to take over (maybe not), but they're here.

It's a little hypocritical to judge Nyjah or Shane based on the "robotic" argument, but in the meantime, skaters who utter that criticism usually refuse to watch or don't get early 90s skating post-popsicle era (which is newschool), where peoplewould perform technical tricks but without much precision.

Again, Guy's welcome edit in Nike and the movie Cherry by Supreme got me stoked. That doesn't mean I acknowledge them as trendsetters (usually, big companies incorporate what was born outside of them and is original) or that I approve the Takeover.

The critique of having clinical style, or an absence of style, is leveled at people in all even vaguely creative pursuits: painting, music, photography, figure skating, football, ice hockey, etc. That's not to say it's not a fair critique, but it should under all circumstances be separated from having just sloppy style, or from succeeding by accident "naturally". But it's entirely comprehensible, because clinical style makes it appear like it's not much fun at all, like the guy's just working here... could be having a whale of a time but we'd never know.

As for the vehicular homicide charge, they've already released him pending decision to charge. That's to say: $0 bail, but ordered to show up in court at a later date. Implies they all but know there's not going to be a charge, or it's going to be some kind of misdemeanor for reckless fucking up. Shit thing to have to go through tho.

this was both funny and worthy of collective shame as a society. And I mean that. It was mostly the second.

I'm 23, just started skateboarding literally 3 days ago, haven't skated in 10 years. I'm coming from a literal drug addiction (24/7 all day long), so I basically been skating to not drug myself up. I kinda get tired easily but I know my cardio will improve in a while.

Anyways, what should my main focus be? I just practice my ride/push and I practice my ollie in a static position and I sometimes ollie while pushing slowly, but I just stop once I ollie or my ollie is too crooked, or my righ kick foot leaves the skateboard instead of sticking to the skateboard.

I'll eventually start going to a local skatepark, it's kinda hard to find good spots where I live.

Skating around is literally the best way of commuting in a city in combination with a good public transport system. what if I just use a Penny board (or another short cruiser) for transportation? would I still be seen as a "poser"?
I'd love to start skateboarding, but there are no skateparks where I live, so top priority and main focus would be transportation.

I'd say your leading foot's shoe is too loose; the foot is rubbing against the shoe's inside. Skate shoes are supposed to feel a little tight, and if it feels like your toes are being crushed then your foot's likely not in there far enough, and while it may help to loosen the laces a bit you gotta tie them back up tight as well.

But if it's not that, it's also nothing serious. Wash it and put a bandaid on. Eventually your skin will thicken at that spot. It's the same with the soles of your feet and walking for a very long distance, or some tools and calluses on the sides of fingers.
