None of the NOAH stars of today can sellout the Dome (Marufuji, Nakajima), or the AJPW stars (Suwama, Miyahara) like Misawa, Kobashi, Kawada, Hashimoto, Chono etc did back in the day.
How about you stop blaming Okada and simply admit the truth that, things like Inoki-ism and Misawa's death hurt Puroresu and It's none of the current stars' fault that the entire business lost fans.
>muh draws

>>3007936

>>3007943
>m-muh dimes
lmao the state of old japanlets, cucked by dimes they'll never have, just as bad as pitiful edrones
I don't get the mentality of these oldpuro drones, yeah sure none of the stars today are as big as the 3 musketeers were in the 90's, but then again none of those guys were as popular as Inoki was, who was never as popular as Rikidozan was. Besides, wrestling in general is obviously not as big as it was in the 90's.
The thing is all of that is in the past, it's already happened, you can go watch the tapes if you want to, while NJPW is growing and that's happening now and you can watch it happen live and being a jaded fuck is only going to make you miss out on it.
>>3007925
You're deluded if you don't think current stars have no blame in why todays puroresu companies don't draw like they did in glorydays. Like I said straight up deluded. The talent today don't compare to Chono, Muta, Hashimoto, Sasaki, Inoki, Choshu, Tenyru, Funjinami, Hase, Misawa, Kobashi, Kawada, Hansen, Hogan, Vader, Norton, Steiners, Bigelow, etc. etc. etc.
>>3007933

90's NJPW drew more, but absolutely pales in comparison to the product today. We're in the literal golden era of wrestling, with legendary talent, and you're too busy bitching about fat old dudes drawing dimes to see how GOAT it is.
You're a japanese-slanted edrone, nothing more.
>NJPW is growing every year
>b-but muh old days
>hurrrr still not as successful as it was before
>hurrr muh old fat heavyweights
Why are old puro fags so butthurt? We know puro has seen much better days, but those days are gone and will never come back, get over it. Believe it or not it is possible to enjoy the current product and the old one.
Pathetic special snowflakes.
>>3007967
You're the faggot for watching sup-bar new age puroresu that doesn't draw. NJPW will NEVER draw crowds like this again especially with guys like Omega and Okada on top.
>>3007982
I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "golden era" since we had shit just as good or even better in the old days but in AJPW and later on NOAH instead of in NJPW. Old NJPW also had some fantastic cards but it was extremely inconsistent, like you can go back and watch some old Tokyo Dome shows and it's appaling how sometimes it's feel like you're watching a weekly TV show card rather than one of the biggest shows of the year.
>>3007972
6 star matches don't draw the masses money...
>>3007982
Keep deluding yourself you Meltzer drone. NJPW today fucking sucks. Glorified gymnastics undercard and overrated main event. Inoki is rolling in his grave and he isn't even dead.
What are the tv ratings for njpw in japan? do they even have a nielsen ratings equivalent over there?

>>3007985

>>3007989
Not to claim that NJPW didn't have bigger crowds back then because they did but you really, really cannot trust attendance numbers before NJPW was bought out by Yuke's. Inoki's yakuza buddies would literally just paper out more tickets to inflate their numbers, the moment the company was bought by Yuke's and the Yakuza connections were gone the attendance suddenly dropped to an hilarious degree.

>>3008004

>>3007993
See this is an actual retort, nothing purely predicated on muh dimes muh drawing, an actual opinion.
I would say right now if NJPW keeps up this pace for another year we could firmly say it's above AJPW, but right now AJPW, due to prolonged consistency, probably wins out.
Though, there's something to be said that today's crop are much, MUCH safer and smarter.
>>3008006
>i-im not seething, you are!
oldrone >>>/out/
>>3008005
Okada can't sell out Dome. Enough said.
>>3008004
Very low, I don't think they even bother with TV as a main source of income anymore, they lost their TV timeslot during the later Inoki years (can't really remember the exact year) and got moved to a late night slot which really puts a low cap on what they can realistically achieve TV-wise.
>>3008016
>the sheer state of this defeated oldrone
>>3008013
But somehow, they are getting bigger and bigger crowds every year.
So TV is not as important for them as live attendance for spreading of a goodwill.
>>3008014
Oh yeah absolutely, even though the guys today take insane bumps they are much better at protecting themselves than the 90's AJPW guys were and so they might be able to get more longevity out of this current "golden era" than AJPW did.
>>3008022
>when did old puro marks stop being respectable oldfags and become this sad sorry mess?
When modern New Japan threatened their perception of 90's wrestling being the best ever.
They just can't handle the likes of Okada/Omega have surpassed Chono and their cast of suckers by leaps and bounds, so they default to the edrone stance.
>>3008008
Nobody probably knows the true attendance figures before Yuke's bought controlling stake. It's just like with WWE how they inflate their attendance; I think Dave reported they inflated WM33 by like 25% at least because of how they defined and counted and "attendee". But I don't doubt they, just like WM, they probably still drew really well.

You're all fucking retarded. You should all unite against the WWE and the E-drones instead of fighting amongst yourselves. It's obvious that their product sucks and they're in a weak spot, we need some competition to light a fire under their ass. To old NJPW fags, I ask you to at least watch some modern NJPW matches, preferably anything they're doing this year, it's widely regarded by both critics and fans alike to be the best year, in-ring wise any company has had in professional wrestling history. To Nujapanfags, we need to start discussing ways that NJPW can sell out larger arenas, get a better timeslot and be as popular as it was in the 90's. Slinging shit everywhere will accomplish NOTHING and I think we can all agree that we want a product that is both INCREDIBLE to watch and POPULAR.

>>3008066
"I watched this match and there is no way, and shape, and form and if you watch them together and if you're a younger fan, you might not agree with this because you didn't live in the time when pro wrestling matches actually happened. Now you have sports entertainment matches. But there's no way this Kenny Omega and Okada match was anywhere near as good as [Jerry Lawler vs. Terry Funk (March 1981), Tiger Mask vs. The Dynamite Kid (January 1982), Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat (1989 trilogy), Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart (March 1997), among others]. I mean, it was a great display of athleticism. I mean, these guys, they took a lot of risks. But it had such obvious cooperation and moves that nobody could really get up from and et cetera, that it doesn't fit in that category. As far as I'm concerned, Kenny Omega should do the motion-capture deal for video games that he is so infatuated with, but it wasn't a five-star pro wrestling match much less a six-star pro wrestling match. It was an exhibition of guys doing moves. The first 10 minutes, I was dying. They fought on the floor forever without being counted out and I jotted down some things. They'd do a big move and then they'd lay around forever. They sold so much and everybody said, 'oh, Cornette, you say don't sell at all!' Well, some people don't sell at all and they sold so much. They knew they were going to go long because long equals classic, but they sold so much they were in slo-mo. Omega still has the stupid facial expressions. Okada did a tombstone and didn't pin him, then hit Omega with his clothesline finish, and he kicked out. Nobody can throw a good looking punch, all those forearms that nobody sells. Meltzer gave it 6*, anything that he reports as facts is facts, but his opinions...weeds legal in California now." - Jim

4/4/98 at the Tokyo Dome drew 70,000 fans paying approximately $7 million and approximately $2.6 million in merchandise (including sales of 30,000 programs at $20; which may have also set another alltime
pro wrestling record of $37.14 per head in merchandise) and combined with the television rights would put the one day
figure well in excess of $10 million. The show broke the Japanese records set for the Keiji Muto vs. Nobuhiko Takada Tokyo Dome
match on October 9, 1995 of 67,000 tickets and alltime pro wrestling records of a $6.1 million live gate and $2 million in merchandise.

Renmeber when NJPW could draw...
Paced by a surprising walk-up which we're told was largely late curiosity over seeing Masahiro Chono competing in an explosive barbed wire match, the 4/10/99 Tokyo Dome show ended up drawing the ninth largest crowd in the history of Japanese wrestling.
Chono had done a lot of good p.r. work in the weeks leading to his match with Atsushi Onita, going to the United States and claiming that NASA had designed a ring costume to wear. that he would be coming to the ring in a tank, and probably most important, that he claimed he would not allow this match to air on television as all major pro wrestling matches these days do, although the match did air on television later that night and the match itself drew an amazing 9.9 rating airing at approximately 1:40 a.m. later that evening. The one hour show itself drew a 6.1 rating which would be roughly a 50 share in that time slot.
This resulted in a legitimate full house of 63,000 fans. The full house was considered impressive because the show was held during a rainstorm. The Antonio Inoki era in New Japan is clearly over, and Shinya Hashimoto, who has headlined more big gates than any wrestler in history, was not on the show leaving it from a drawing standpoint a two match show.
>>3008230
The Tokyo Dome can only hold roughly 55,000 people. That 4/4/98 show was a sellout but the figure is as overinflated as Inoki's ego.
Unless you believe 101,763 also.
>>3008263
You only need to see footage of a 55,000 capacity full Tokyo Dome to know there is tonnes of extra room in building. Inoki is a god in Japan (bigger than Hogan, Austin, Rock combined) and they put extra seats in for his retirement.
