•Physically conditioned, fit participants

WHAT TO BE WARY OF:
•Fat, physically subpar students and instructor
•Graduation fees (e.g. "pay $200 and advance to next belt extra quick!")
•No proven athletes training there
•No sparring, moves shown are choreographed (e.g. "the attacker does this, then I do this, then you do this...")
•Cult-like atmosphere
•No physical conditioning

Got to teach class with an inflamed toe. Should be fun!

you literally took a shower, hit the weights, got a clue and gained height

I'd say he's doing well then.

Also BJJ promotions next month. Should be getting purple. Will probably be mountaineering in Georgia instead. Then preparing for Judo Interclub competition, and try and squeeze in the shodan exam I should've done half a year ago. We'll see.

Good luck, anon

Thoughts on London Shootfighters?

I have a friend who has apparently been told by his instructor that he's a black belt equivalent Wing Chun practitioner. Thing is this freind trains at some community centre in a small town, is overweight/not in shape and whenever he shows me his 'moves' he asks to me to throw a punch at him and then says 'no not like that' or 'a bit slower'. It looks like autistic flailing as well when he does the Wing Chun blocking thing with his hands.

Bullshido?
>>
I submit to the counsel a request to have fight tips taken off the list of channels

shane is not an authority or expert of any kind, he's got some amateur kickboxing and no grappling ability at all, and his videos are often ripe with incorrect broscience and poor technique, and that's irresponsible
>>
>>2993723
There's some dumbfuck who always puts him back, he's probably doing it on purpose.
>>
During open mat today, I got a couple of legit taps on blue belts for the first time ever. I have multiple stripes on my white, so it's about time for it start happening, but our blue belts are really strong, and these guys had some stripes too. Feels good to know that I'm actually progressing, and getting ready for blue myself.
>>
>>2993238
If his instructor says he is black belt equivalent, then why not just give him the belt

Who uses belts in wing Chun anyway

Yes, Wing Chun is bullshido

So, if nobody is against it's removal, then we're proceeding to modify the OP youtube channel list.

I feel like master wong actually knows what he's talking about though. I watch his videos all the time and I'm trying to find reasons to say nah that's bullshit, but I just can't
I mean, grab him fucking nut and break da hand so he cant grab no more titty is just flawless technique
>>
>>2994154
Honestly break da hand and all that shit has nothing to do with wing chun
>>
>>2994501
see this, look, he get close and BAM you use yo fuckin head and break his nose with yo fuckin head

I wish master wong was my teacher

Judo is the cheapest gym in my town, and I work in a job that requires a lot of restraints / takedowns (hospital security).

I tried out muay thai but I felt like striking wasn't really my thing / very relivant for my work.

Judo seem like a good option / any advice for a beginner?

(In decent shape already, do weightlifting 3x a week)

I'm 2 years in and still a white belt. I think I just have bad teachers though. I was at it for a solid 6 months before anyone explained the 8 directions to me, and I'm pretty sure that's a pretty important fundamental of judo but I'm not sure since it's the first and last time I heard about it.
it's basically all randori and crash mat and there isn't really a class structure outside of that
>>
>>2995339
That seems like a really long time to still be at white belt. I've heard some gyms put less importance on the belt system though.
>>
>>2995188
Give it a try. I think it'll be very practical for you. If you go to a good dojo, they should drill throws into submissions every once in a while. It's not the best but here's a video of koshi guruma into kesa gatame.

This gym where they had a trial session near me had this blue belt young teen who had been training for 3 or 4 years
>>
>>2995514
Theoretically possible if he's old enough - at least, here there's a minimum age of 15 for blue.
