Based Backlund

Had a tremendous performance at 93' Rumble...

Then had a great gimmick with the whole 'I've Snapped and slap on the Chicken Wing' shtick ....
I really liked it and liked how old school he was. His style was very technical like Bret's and I liked that kind of wrestler. But he never got over, the way Vince booked him.
I still think to this day it could been a great heel run as Champion. Imagine him cutting scathing promo's in the ring and working the marks.
I think he should've done the open challenge with her WWF title. But just destroyed jobbers instead of anyone credible .... that would've got great heat for a few months or so, with a few close calls here and there like maybe have Doink come out for a challenge or something.
Maybe have Million Dollar try to bribe him to drop the title to him but Backlund would just be too based to do anything like that so he demands that he fight him for the title fair and square that very night! !!

Then maybe Deisel comes out after two months and says that Backlund is TOO SCARED to face any legitimate....
Deisel would've gotten over properly with this and had a good 20 minute match where both save face and Deisel goes over at a PPV like Survivor Series.
Not on some house show like how Vince did it and Deisel never got over.

Bob was a great personality - that angle reminds me of Trump in a way... don't know if an angle like that would go over now tho.
Don't know anyone who is in their mid 40's now that looks like they could be a legit champion and pull off that heel run. Would be cool though.
I remember all my friends hating on Backlund during this storyline and to this day everyone shits on the guy for it despite it not being his fault.
Dude is based in my opinion. Just thought it was impressive for someone of his age that could still go!
