scratched coping for the first time.
Did a heelflip to fakie on a bank, then had a good skater ask me "was that a heelflip?" in disbelief.
Kickflipped over a little embankment. Felt like pic related

I'm still just staring at it in my cart, senpaitachi.

It's taking that first step that's the problem.
>>
>>2873328
everything is great, but I suggest to get a size smaller trucks. The next smaller. Other than that, you should already have ordered.
>>
>>2873328

>Toy Machine deck

patrician taste, order now
>>
Just switched to MOB grip from jessup for the first time in my life and I'm actually surprised with how much it helps me catch tricks like, damn boy once you've caught your board it aint moving.
>>
>>2873235
never forget the issue of replacing polyurethane with an environmentally friendly substitute.
>>
>>2873343
Nah he should just get an 8.25 deck. He'll eventually size up his decks and then he'll wish he'd have bought 147s
>>
>>2873328
>>2873343
>>2873687

Yeah, 147s are fine. They're slightly big for an 8 inch, but they're still totally usable, and no-one ever sizes down on decks.
>>
Will it be hard to jump from a 7.75 straight to an 8.5? Personally I don't really think it would cause it's not even an inch wider but my friend is going off on how it would be like a totally different thing
>>
>>2873797
Flip tricks will get some getting used to and your ollies will probably be a bit lower to begin with, but it should be no trouble otherwise

>>
>>2873916
it's not that simple my dude. you want them less wide than the deck to avoid wheel bite
>>
>>2873797

It'll feel kinda weird to begin with, but you'll adjust quickly.
>>
Where is our /mega/ dude with the KOTR links :(
>>
>>2873928
i've skated some indy 129s with an 8" deck in the past and got wheel bite more than i do now that i have trucks the same size as my deck
>>
>>2873928
Not to mention that having them flush with your deck can lead to scraping the nut/wheel/end of truck sscrew
>>
>>2873936
Just pirate bay them
>>
The heck happened to skate shoes? Back when I skated in the late nineties to early 00s everyone wore big chunky ones like Osiris D3's because they were impossible to fully destroy. Now all I see are Van variants, slippers, and retro hi-tops in stores and they look they're held together with scotch tape.
>>
>>2874246
90s and early 00s were all about baggy clothes, now in the 10s slim silhouettes are "in". further, thinner shoes are popular because tech tricks are, and more minimal shoes give better board feel and control.
>>
>>2874258
Good insight, but I just can't imagine how many pairs of modern shoes I would have gone through if I had used them back in my heyday. Just from a normie lifestyle a pair of Vans burns through the sole's heel and the heel lining in like 3 months. I would be buying a new pair every month if I skated with them.
>>
>>2874246

>>
>>2872590
Got FS flips on tranny today. Felt fucking amazing. Just hanging in the air, watching the board flip, and then chomping down on it with the scoop. ooooooh feels good lads.

Yeah that's about right.
I recently bought some big chunky nikes from a charity shop for £6 and they're honestly the best skate show I've ever worn. Even if they aren't technically a skate shoe and they're 1 size too large. Durability and comfort are more important than board feel

The rail breaks half way down so you'd have to transfer from one section to the next. Then there's the bollard at the bottom directly at the end of the second rail. Plus there are loads of gnarled knobs that look like they were once skate stoppers but have since been snapped off. Truly an impossible rail.

>>

To be fair Jaws was first featured in one of Ali's parts and Ali was there when Jaws landed it
>>
>>2878011

Like, I'm sure Ali told him it was cool, but it's just something you wouldn't ask. If a guy is going for a spot that huge, you let him fucking go for it until he tells you "I can't do this, you take a shot".
>>

Basically my goal. Started skating, getting decent at just cruising. I just wanna be able to roll around and ollie up and down curbs. Couple months ago had my foot ran over at work. Toenail still growing in.

About a week ago at a yard sale in my neighborhood. Selling pic related for twenty bucks. Barely used. Already have an Almost deck, but bought anyways. Skated it home. First time on a board in months.

Wanna learn my ollies now.
>>
>>2878033

Just remember, senpai: It's All In The Front Foot.
>>
>>2878039
Thanks. I've practiced in garage, but never while rolling. Should I tighten my trucks while learning?
>>
>>2878046

Don't fuck about with your board while learning new stuff. Otherwise you go back to what you'd usually ride on, and suddenly you need to relearn shit because the board feels weird.

Keep your board as you'd want to ride it every damn day.
>>
>>2878015
I saw or read an interview where he seemed kind of miffed about it. Jaws kinda style his thunder, but there was plenty of time between Jaws doing it and Ali's attempt.
>>
>>2878056
Makes sense. Thanks. Any other Ross other than don't be a fucking pussy? I'm thinking of findings a tennis court or something that won't be as bad to fall on. Also, I'm cruising on super soft Spitfires (80s or something. Can't remember). Should I put the harder wheels on for learning? I have Bones STF and whatever the hard Soitfire wheels are on this fucker >>2878033
>>
>>2878058

From what I've read, Ali gave him the go-ahead but he kinda regrets giving it away. I think Ali knows now that if he had went back to it, he would have had it.

>Mother fucks off to walk the dog and leaves the kids to skate
>Both kids have GoPro's on their helmets and keep screaming "FIRST TRYYYYY" whenever they rolled down the bank like those faggots from Braille
Is this what the next generation of skating is? Thanks a lot Aaron you ugly Scientologist fuck.
>>
>>2880382

Literally the only good thing Braille have ever given the world is "Don't make the first trick you learn a kickflip".

Like, if I'm teaching kids at the skatepark, I'll use Braille's trick order, because it's a reasonable progression (Ollie, FS180, BS180, Popshuv, FS-Shuv, Heelflip, Kickflip)
>>
>>2880382
Sounds like you should try shorting GoPro's stock prices
people have done it with Tesla and Amazon, nobody's stopping others
>>
>>2880497
I agree. Their tutorials used to be alright too but now it's just "hey today we're skating half a skateboard with eight trucks and the grip tape is made of silk and there's twelve layers of it! *pulls a funny face* haha that's the thumbnail right there dudes and dudettes! xD FIRST TRY!"
>>
>>2880821

Don't forget The Sponsored Scientologist From The San Francisco Bay Area making himself an authority on teaching new skaters yet not having fucking heelflips on lock. The easiest basic flip trick, and a guy who has taken on the mission of teaching people to skate doesn't have them down reliably.
>>
>>2879882
I really liked when Enjoi just rolled after the cop had already kicked people out of the spot, they broke the chain and smithgrinded the rail. That was skateboarding as fuck, as FUCK. But their logo isn't speaking to me. I knew that behind its foundation were Marc Johnson and Rodney so it looked way too clean cut to me. Louie is rad however. And I get stoked whenever the panda is dancing. It's like "HERE DANCES THE PANDA, SHIT IS BECOMING SERIOUS!" It's like they had a pre-Welcome vibe, only they wussed out of actually creating shaped boards and filming videos out of the box (with the exception of Louie, who was a novelty).

Are handrails really that much harder than flatbars? I used to think that you need to ollie super high to get on to them but now I'm like, well it's probably easier to go faster then with the height of your ollie it'll be easier cause your momentum will get you on to it. I can already do flatbars so I think I'm gonna give it a go at some point
>>

Fliptricks tricks are less related to each other than you think. Also, if you can fakie tre, you probably have attempted way more fakie tres than all of your shuv variations combined.

I'd say I did about the same. I can't control pop shuvs at all though. I can shuv without pop but never with. I just don't know what to do.

treat it like an ollie; pop the tail, raise your front foot. Don't move the front foot anywhere else, just up. Don't turn your body either. Treat it like an ollie. If you heed this advice you 'll be able to get a proper pop-shuv-it once you're warmed up/within 4 tries

Anyone got tips on popping tricks higher? I can normally jump higher than any of my mates but when it comes to doing trick, I just leave the board down and jump high. It's kind of taken away the fun from skateboarding for me.

no, but you probably have a fractured meniscus, from the way you describe it. It can be fixed, if the money is available and you'll be able to skate again if you follow a special training routine to the T and don't skate a mintue earlier than advised.
If money is not available, you may find a way to keep skating with the fracture but you risk further damage and ultimately rapture. And then you must fix it, like surgery the next day, because regular painkilelrs won't help you sleep. That's what I know about this kind of injury but I 'm not a doctor.

just got over a lower back injury that put me out for five weeks. I was shooting footage with my brother in the 95 degree sun (His camera overheated halfway through). Filming makes you want to nail such harder shit. Overworked my back and ended up pinching a nerve trying to secure a line. I couldn't move my legs at first. Go see someone, let the swelling around your nerves go down, stretch every day, and fucking take it easy until youre healed. i know its scary to think you may be disabled but injuries are seldom as bad as we expect them to be. that's very close to what happened with me. It would be better if I bailed or fell, the fact that I landed it and the effort to keep my body from rotating made my neck go CRACK (well, not that loud, but how it felt). I returned from a sesh today as well and in fact got a trick that I was trying to do for months. My neck is still soar although not as bad as when it hit me. maybe the pills helped a little

Today at the park, someone put a traffic barrel in front of the launch. They were airing, doing melons and indies. I nearly got an airwalk over it.
I eventually decided to try and foot plant it, chickened out when I got above it. Ended up drop kicking it, it caved in and fell over. I bashed both elbows and both wrists, and like fifteen people broke out in "Oooooh!" chorus.
Got up pretty quick though. Not a painful bail, all in all.

There's value in picking your battles. If you think you can do it, by all means. But if you're beginning to hurt yourself more often (bails, shinners, etc.), sometimes it really is better to rest and come back to it.

Side note, I went back out to the park today. Landed a bunch of my favorite tricks for the first time since my injury. Feels good to overcome.
>>
Went out to the park today.
Busy ass park with little to no free flat ground and mostly focused on medium-sized ramps.
Reminds me of those Indian streets you see on TV where they somehow manage to not crash into each other.
Decide to go over this sort of pump track with 'bumps' about a foot and a half high.
Patiently waiting for my turn as it seems everyone's a fucking pro skateboarder there.
Finally I can give it a go.
Roll down the bank to get some speed to get over it.
Pussy out
>feelsbadman.jpg
Run up the bank and stand there freezing while I watch little kids half my height do what I want to do.
Wait literally 10 minutes before trying again.
Same result

Run up the bank again.

Every Time you get on the board you are improving. No, you're not going to learn a new trick every day, but every ollie, every push, every powerslide gets you more comfortable on the board, more aware of what the board can and can't do, and improves your body's muscle memory. Just because you haven't learned a trick in a couple weeks doesn't mean you aren't getting better.

Most importantly, don't sweat it. Skateboarding is all about enjoying yourself. You should push yourself once in awhile, otherwise you'd still be stuck unable to ollie up a curb, but don't let it fuck with you, it's only skateboarding.

That's basically an ollie, my little underaged buddy. You just need to do a more fluid motion, and you're also jumping a bit early, before you've popped properly. Just start with baby ollies, try to level up the board by lifting your back foot up, and let your front foot guide the board up. Work on your timing, don't be so stiff, don't be afraid to fall, and most importantly, don't learn tricks stationary, just get a little speed.
>>
>>2899786
Forgot to say to keep your shoulders parallel to the board, and not to lean back or forward. Also I'm not sure, but from the video it looks like you're popping from your nose.
>>
>>2899704
The front foot slide makes the board level out, and you have to lift your back foot for it to fully level

What really works is having daily 1-hour sessions of just ollieing. It may be frustrating as hell, but if you do it consistently for 2 weeks or so you should be able to Ollie in the end.
What I found especially important when learning is that you need to jump to do an Ollie, as I've seen a lot of beginners try to do the whole motion with their legs. Also, remember to snap your ankle when you feel you're about to jump off your board.
>>
yo

I might just have the perfect advice for ollie

rate bros

T - Tap your tail, don't "pop" it. Popsicle shapes were designed specifically to not require force for the pop.

A - Aim with your shoulder

G - Guide with your front foot

S - Stomp that fucker once you 're in the air

Not op, but I find just going for one attempt of the trick is enough to know whether there's hope for landing or if i should try something else. Each session I try a few attempts at my "dream tricks" and some days, certain tricks feel more doable. Just gotta be in touch with what you're feeling that day. Eat your veggies kids.
>>
>>2899786
you're pressing your front foot downward to attempt to level the board out and its just shoving it back into the ground. After popping you need to roll your front foot so that it's outer edge is against the griptape and push forward (towards the nose) instead of straight down. Also do it with a little bit of speed, makes it a ton easier.
>>
>>2900716
>Just gotta be in touch with what you're feeling that day

I'mthe guy you replied to and I agree. I first saw freestyle and Mike Vallely doing airwalks, streetplants, curb stalls and I just couldn't stop myself from going out. Practicing for the tricks you want to get is beneficiary.

You lost some outer skin. Sure it looks graphic at first, but it'll be fine as long as you cleaned it afterward, and (like the other people said) don't fuck with it. Probably could use a big fucking bandaid on top as well to keep it covered, since it doesn't look like it's scabbed over properly.

Gonna take two months until there's no longer a dent in your skin. Two weeks until you can stop putting band aids on it.

I don't know what your park is like but I think most people with happily take a beginner with etiquette over an intermediate or expert without it. Depending on how busy it is and the dynamic there, it's not necessarily about waiting turns. You might just get a good sense of when you're not in the way and not snaking anyone, go in and do your thing, and then get out of the way.

Also, try going when it's not packed if that's a possibility. You'll get more practice that way.

this dude carved around the bowl for a few turns getting some serious speed
he hit a penny at full speed just before straightening out toward the launch ramp, his momentum carried him straight into the launch.
after walking around punch drunk for a few minutes, he found the penny
>im...im gonna keep this fuckin penny man.
he promptly threw the penny over the fence
>fuck that penny dude.

>that one video of Manny Santiago losing his tooth

It's on his youtube channel, and the retard plays it in slow motion at least 10 fucking times, and his tooth almost makes sparks when connecting with the ground, almost like how you light up a match. Cringed so many times to that video. My teeth literally started hurting just thinking about it.

>her boyfriend came to my door today and accused me of swearing at her and calling her names
>which I never did

Fucking pussy. Man up and stop letting people fuck with you so easily. Are you fucking American? Tell him to take a hike, or shoot him in the head if he doesn't stop bothering you.

Big hurt only happens when you start doing stuff beyond what you can do naturally. Man wasn't meant to BS flip down a sketchy 10.

But you can still kill it within your limits. Get a board, go find somewhere big and flat like a basketball court. Get comfy rolling around, turning, stopping. Then start doing all that on two wheels. Start popping No Complys. Start popping footplants.

Become The Flatland King, anon. Become the fucking zen master of nothing but you and a board.

The tap tip could be great for newbies but I remember learning faster by getting as much pop in the beginning so I always have lift off,THEN I gradually just "tap"(just enough pop) the board to get consistent ollies and then back to big pop again when I started ollieing over things.
>>
>>2900551
>>2903478

Another great ollie tip: The further back your front foot starts, the higher the ollie will be. Your height is entirely in your front foot sliding.
>>
>>2900551
reckon it might be easier to nail a caveman before an ollie, since you learn to land on your bolts and get a feel of the air

Starts with an ad for a movie, which is lame for a release group. If you're reading this a day later, look for a proper instead. Otherwise, this looks like the real thing.

Definitely not, I can't stand him.

Nora is super cute, wish I could get a skate date with her.
>>
>>2904204
Wish I could "bail" on a trick and have my board fly trucks first into her nose bridge.
>>
>>2904207

That would also be fucking great.
>>
>>2901926
>i am defeinitely not just tapping that tail

yeah you are. In fact it's not uncommon for first landings to be without pop at all.
>>
>>2902608
didn't you go to school at all?

>>2902677
HOLLA
>>
>>2903594
I absolutely agree with this. The Caveman is just a great trick anyway.

>The Caveman is just a great trick anyway

I wish hipster posers would stop unironically saying shit like this with zero shame whatsoever. Try skating for at least a month before posting like damn.

Proof? Can't trust nobody that says the caveman is a real trick even.

check out Stecyk's "The Art of the Downhill Slide" in the second issue of 1975. How could he have such an insight? What a complete article. READ IT!

I can't take anyone seriously who doesn't think the Caveman is rad.
>>
>>2904356
>rad

Trying too hard.

>don't BS flip a ten stair until you're experienced in BS flipping 10 stairs
Uhmm
>>
>>2904395
that's obviously not what he meant
>>
>>2904395

Way to totally misunderstand what I was saying.

I was telling them that, if they're really paranoid about injury, there are ways to skate that minimize the chances of injury, like skating flatland.

>>2904204

Lacey is true skatefu though.
