Skated a bit when I was around 12. Could ollie pretty decently, and could grind, albeit poorly. 10 years later and I want to start again. I'm really not sure if it's worth investing in, but would it be fairly easy to go back to? Physically, I've improved a lot. I just worry about looking like an idiot, and there's not really any skate parks around.

I've been wasting money on other hobbies(I spend too much on my car) but hell less than $200 for a complete skateboard setup? That's cheaper than the other shitty hobbies I've gotten into, just don't fucking abuse your board if you get mad when you don't land a trick like some other cunts do, ain't gonna last long that way. I was the same as you. Skated from 10 to 12/13 when I could drop in and ollie. Then I stopped. I picked it back up when I was 21. I'm 23 now and I've progressed so much. Like I'd say I'm actually pretty decent. It's a lot easier to learn tricks when you're older, but it's more difficult to throw yourself off of or down things.

hey so I've been gitting into it, can ollie while riding, but not too fast. Was in the same boat you are. Skated around 8 to 12ish and didn't do a whole lot. Just got back in to it at 25 and I love it man. I live in an apartment complex and skate in the parking lot. At first I was super freaked out about people thinking I was weird, but I just focus so much on practicing my flat ground stuff it blocks all that other shit out including bullshit from my job. It helps me decompress so much, take trips out to the skatepark on my days off early and it's been fun. If you're interested in it, I'd do it. If anything it will help you be more confident in general after you get over looking "Lame" in front of normal people. I see guys my age walking dogs and taking out the trash looking miserable while I'm out doing something I enjoy and it's a nice feeling.

I own white 100A wheels and transparent, red 86B wheels. The 86B wheels should be harder, but my own experience (anecdotal, I know) suggests that the red wheels are in fact softer. I spoke to the guys who run my local shop about it and they said that often adding dye to the urethane can make the wheels softer and more prone to flat spots. I've heard the same rumour amongst skaters before.

get some soft wheels then ya dummy, ricta clouds and bones atf come in smallish sizes (52-56mm) and are perfectly skateable, albiet a little bouncy. great for when you're learning, or filming, or you skate lots of sidewalks and asphalt. if you want hard wheel and hate flatspots, stick with white.

#1, the dye process doesn't make the wheels *softer* in the sense that a lower durometer wheel would be softer- (if you want a softer wheel, buy a lower durometer) it makes them softer in the sense than they don't perform as well because the dyes mess with the consistency of the urethane. they just underperform- they're more likely to flatspot, might be more brittle, may not slide as well- lots of things. will you be able to tell the difference at a sub-professional level? maybe. skate whatever you want, but non-dyed wheels are the best wheels you can buy.

as far as griptape goes, go take a look at some colored grip next time you can and compare it to black stuff. the particles glued to the paper are clear, and the paper its colored. that shit (whatever it is) just doesn't last. sheet of the stuff wont stand up to skating like black will. give it a try, see for yourself. I'd take a picture for you but none of the 4 skate shops within 20 miles carry the stuff. (because it sucks)

again- skate whatever you like, but the shits expensive and just doesn't last very long

i built a setup with soft wheels for my girlfriend and just use that if i'm going to the store or around the neighborhood. i had a longboard in college, and never rode it because it was so cumbersome to carry, and i can't ollie or boneless it down stairs.

longboards are for bombing gigantic hills
build yourself a setup with a standard deck (maybe wider or old school style for comfort)
and some soft wheels. portable, skateable, and you can ollie it.

it'd be easy to just print a vinyl wrap but thats some walmart board quality shit and if you just fucking glue pages to the board it'll have same effect as a wrap because when you do any slides it'll just rip off the pages/graphic. Better off finding someplace that makes skateboard ink transfers which would be easier but I doubt you might find any locally or making your own screen print which would be difficult to vector
