why are street league skaters so boring to watch?
>>
I dropped in a quarter pipe for the first time today, it was cool. How did you guys learn to ollie?
>>
>>1600978
I have a phobia of drop ins.

I learned to ollie by skating for a thousand years

yes, I am eternal
>>
Did anyone here learn how to rolling ollie without having any skate friends?

It feels completely impossible to me, I have commitment issues and generally the board goes on the curb with at least front truck but no feet, then I start feeling like a clown after 15 minutes of that on repeat and go home a failure.
>>
>>1600897
was thinking about creating a custom shape for my boards
i got a few 8plies wood shapes laying around, long enough for 2 longboards each
was thinking about an 80cm old school with one flat kick or an 80cm pintail with averaged ends, always flat
the length is due to my height
>>
>>1601018
Yes, it's possible to do it alone. Try harder.
>>1600972
Ishod Wair =/= boring
>>
please stop putting all this dumb shit in the op

>>1600978
pop and slide the side of your foot

make sure to slide up and out, not straight up.

getting perfect timing will take quite a few sessions.

>>1601018
yup, keep at it nerd. just try it on flat, you don't have to learn ollie up a curb
>>
>>1601061

o ya?
>>
no idea if i managed to do a rolling ollie a couple of times this evening since no friends around and I feel like I'm moving then pop

nothing

then I'm down again and rolling. I mean this must meant I'm doing it, right? I don't even know where I'm looking while ollieing, probably straight down.

Fuck. Every year I tell myself "this is it, i'll throw the deck away and leave it be" and every year it pulls me the fuck back in. Goddamn you Sidlauskas.

How do I stop being a pussy and drop in?

do it, faggot

>>
Does a chipped nose/tail make any difference? I can't tell if its in my head, but the board feels very wonky. I destroyed my nose by fucking with stairs for the first time after a hiatus.

I have a deck with the same problem, I now always try to use the fucked up end as the nose since I feel if I keep abusing it, it'll one day snap. It feels sketchy when I try to drop in or slide on it. Pretty much, ya.
Just have to get used to it, make a habit of not making it your tail end and not doing stuff on it for the most part.

I bought a can for $6CAD each from the hardware store, our currency is close in exchange rates which I find fucked up.
If you want it neat, all you do is clean off the surface with a wet wipe, dry it with a towel or something, tape tape around the edges where you can see the layers(optional) and spray from one end to the other while moving the can in a constant motion.
If you don't give a fuck about imperfections in the paint or looking neat, go MAAAAD on it.
Ask anyone if they have a can of some around which I bet they might.
If a blank deck is your only option, neat project.
Also if you got different colors of paint and masking tape lying around and a sharp x-acto blade you can do something cool. pic related

Hey everyone, question about griptape:

Do any of you put the gap or cut a line on your grip? Thinking about doing it to aid as a visual marker for foot placent.

And i think i want to try and put it directly in the middle as opposed to closer to the tail which i see more often.

Is this a dumb idea? Im hoping it will be a visual landmark to keep my feet in their respective zones so to speak when catching and landing to minimize slip outs due to feet being too close
>>
>>1607256
if it's in the middle of the board it's not gonna affect any of your tricks so if you want to you may as well
>>
>>1607313
why, would it affect it if it was more towards the tail?

my current board has homogenised grip tape, I jsut have it for some months now and learned the difference visually. I must say however, that it being a football shape from the early 90s helps a lot.
>>
>>1607313
Nice. Thanks for the input, my man.
>>
>>1607432
Im guessing that in certain tricks, the tail can become the nose in a sense and when the line is closer to the now "nose" after say a shuvit, it could create an area of resistence or catch your flick if you follow up with like a kickflip or something
>>
>>1607462
it would be too narrow to stop your foot from sliding. Even if it weren't, the rest of the griptape provides enough traction to pull the board.

Seriously just lean forward. All you need to do is fully lean forward. Its like diving into water. If you fully commit to going headfirst, it works fine. Its only when you hesitate a bit that you bellyflop. Same thing here. If you put all your commitment and mental thought into leaning forward, and put all your weight into your front foot, and none of it anywhere else, you'll just drop in perfectly fine. That's all it takes.

I'm half tempted to snag some cheap wheels and a cheap roll of grip tape since the bearings and trucks are "okay" and fucking around on it until it breaks.

with Bones Reds on amazon

http://www.theshredquarters.com/
>>
>>1610920
Pretty much all decks manufactured by the major skate brands are the same, so that doesn't really matter.

For trucks, can't go wrong with independent/thunder trucks. Both are built like tanks, last forever.

Bearings, kind of the same deal as with boards. Bones reds are the most known cheap&good bearings, so those are a good choice.

For wheels, spitfire f4's & bones STF's are the best on the market. Both last forever, i have skated my STF's for about an year now. Still going strong.

Obviously if you want to save money, you can go with cheaper stuff, it won't really make a difference. Just make sure it isn't a walmart tier brand product.
>>
>>1611064
>it won't really make a difference
There's a decent difference between cheap shit and decent shit, especially on wheels, trucks aren't going to matter as much

>>
>>1611494
I mean durability wise. Obviously concaves, and other dimensions differ on each brand. And some even have some new shit, like carbon fiber layers, but from my experience those are not worth the extra 10-20$. I doubt the amount of concave, or the shape, or the dimensions will limit the guys skating in any way.

>What is with skateboarding and the crippling self doubt?

hey, to all /esg/ bros: keep in your mind the good days. Those days that sometimes come once every ten sessions and make up for the other 9, to keep you skating in the future.
Those days when you pulled off a trick and went "how did I do that?".
Those days when you visited a new spot and had a blast experimenting with it.
Those days when you learned something new and got respect from all the other skaters.
Those days when you tried helping someone and it worked and they learned something, despite if they thanked you for it or not.
Those days when everything was in perfect allignment.
Those days are not over and they will not be over until the day you die.

i'm guessing you're a beginner. if so, they'll probably last you a while. unless you're jumping down things or focusing your board, you don't have to worry. also, just buy the cheapest boards you can find (usually $20-30) if you're concerned about money

$40-50

The weight difference is negligible, and so is the durability from what i have heard. But if you skate big stairs and shit, better safe than sorry. I have seen normal indy axels bend from some stair skating.

Place yer front foot near the front bolts, twist your body weight along with your backfoot towards the direction you're going and lean a bit back when your body is faced forward; if you don't you'll just launch yer body off the board and get rekt. I'd recommend practicing on a really smooth surface like a laminated floor or a smooth tiled floor at a moderate speed. It's a bit tricky to do on pavement since it likes to grip on the wheels, asphalt is okay, concrete would equal death.
>>
>>1619448
Also I find doing reverts easier and helpful when learning powerslides, maybe it's just me

I've been pretty unsuccessful with just riding over cracks, I'll shift my weight to my back foot to get the front over, but I can't even out in time to get the rear set go over and I get thrown. Figure learning an ollie in general will help with mobility.

Griptape tape
Having different sized boards, i have 500m of griptape tape instead of normal grip tape. Same material, but with convenience. It's roughly less than 1$ for board
>>
guys

what if

you put a layer of rubber on your board

and wore shoes made of grip tape

How much difference do wheel width and shape etc. make on power slides? I can slide my STF v1's for days, but on v2 (the "square" one) i can not. They feel glued to the ground, impossible to slide.
